  1. I leave for one week, ONE WEEK, and it takes three hours to catch up on everything. No more noticeable than the fact that I've inadvertently turned Bubbles into an arsonist. She's now drawn Seattle and Denver , and then edited the art to have them burning. Though sometimes the best character quirks stem from accidents! As a side note, I love assertive Chase. Makes me sad she's a coward when confronted face to face. Corvallis comments and concerns: I'd like to preface by saying I in no way intend to insult, or offend, anyone with anything I am about to say. I am not attacking you, your ideas, nor your characters in any way. Hopefully what I do say won't warrant such a preface, but just in case. Well, this escalated quickly. We went from a city with one High Epic (Rainmaker) to having that one High Epic take on three others in a single evening. I find this mildly frustrating. I thought the purpose of Corvallis was to be a relatively low power level thread, with relatively little combat that would ultimately result in the Queen's downfall (with most of the Queens presumably dying, save Chase and maybe Cornucopia, depending on Voidus's plans). That's not to say I dislike where this is going. I am not frustrated with any of the players, nor their characters, but rather am frustrated at how quickly those original concepts were thrown out the window. In just three pages, those original ideas for Corvallis have all but evaporated. I do however, like where the thread is headed. There is much promise for good roleplaying as the Queens struggle to find Euphoria and keep Corvallis together, Iconoclast and the potential Converter/Phoenix duo confront each other for the first time (will they team up or fight each other), and the vanilla rebellion somehow tries to form a cohesive rebellion amongst all the previously mentioned conflicts. Other notes about Corvallis: Why do we keep referencing vanillas at the stadium? There aren't any. Like, any. The ones Chase used to initially taunt Converter all died (I think) thanks to Converter, and everyone else was escorted away by Buttercup and the police. Buttercup is the only one to have returned, meaning even the vanilla police force is absent. There should be no vanillas at the scene. Silver, are you wanting Converter to get away, or to be captured?
  2. Having one of your favorite authors say thank you in the form of a tweet is a HUGE confidence booster. https://twitter.com/howardtayler/status/596390809617846272

  3. Hah, that's a good point! I didn't think of that. I forgot our quotes don't update when the post quoted does. Thanks for the heads up. Edit: Fixed. Thanks again!
  4. Magic the Gathering. Considering the vast amount of MtG Planes, I'd say MtG wins. If they didn't have any form of magic, it'd be a more interesting fight, but they do have magic. Also the population of certain planes *cough*Ravnica*cough* are so large that the Cosmere would be overrun and wildly outnumbered.
  5. The key thing to remember is that you're better than them for not doing that. Not everyone can appreciate the greatness that is Reckoners.
  6. I don't think you need to be a Sanderfan to have that reaction to the last Divergent book.
  7. Could you just spoiler out your WoR paragraph? I appreciate your dancing around them, but even mentioning what you do could be considered spoilerific. Thanks in advance!
  8. All right, in regards to Kinesis v Smasher, from an objective point of view if Smasher has the ability to adjust the size of his forcefields, increasing and decreasing makes sense. I went and read his profile in the Epics of Oregon thread and it does not mention this ability. In the Astoria posts, does Smasher ever comment on it? "Yeah, I can manipulate them" or anything of that nature? If so, I'd have to judge based on what he says. If he says "manipulation" or "change size" or any other phrase that does not explicitly specify "increase size", then it's reasonable to say he can do both increase and decrease. If he has explicitly specified increase, though, the question becomes whether he'd lie about it, or intentionally withhold the information. That then brings me to my next point... Is it in character? Is it in character for him to lie? Is it in character for him to use such a power when he clearly prefers more brutal methods? Any question such as that should be redirected to his Player, as I would hope the Player knows him best. So I think both issues renege to Mailliw, personally. Winter's going to be a while, as the SE game isn't over (and won't be for a while, from what I gather). Plus Chase was conviniently (and I think intentionally) placed away from any action. Though Chase would realize another vanilla had been killed, I'm not sure if she'd be able to sense that you had killed them away from the action currently happening (a lot of vanillas did just die in a short period of time, yours included). In terms of the other Queens noticing, they're kind of busy with Converter right now. It would be out of character for either Blossom or Buttercup to worry about you unless you made a more noticeable mess, though you said that was out of character?
  9. Considering he finished at 3 in the morning, according to Twitter, he had a late night. What this means is that while actual Brandon went to see Avengers, a Sanderbot finished Calamity. I wonder if they share a hivemind?
  10. That's a good point. I had forgotten that conversation (I need a reread). So then water/drowning might not be David's weakness. On the other hand, that does put points towards Edge's theory of an Epic's weakness/fear being fueled by a traumatic experience.
  11. I'm not sure if I agree. None of my nightmares involve my greatest fear. Given the emphasis the novel puts on the fact that an Epic's nightmares are of their weakness, I don't see how they don't "just start up". They don't have to have nightmares every night, but when they do have nightmares, it is of their weakness, their greatest fear. It would be like a recurring nightmare. I've had those. They're terrifying (after two or three times, it's like watching a movie over again: you know what's coming, but you can do nothing to stop it, and that feeling of helplessness just adds to the horror). I actually think David is a bit of an interesting case, because his traumatic experience recently occured. As I understand it, after a traumatic event, the traumatized often have nightmares reliving the trauma. David's traumatic experience of being shackled and thrown into the ocean was still a very recent event at the time of his Epicfication. As such, I don't think him having nightmares about drowning (particularly when he's sleep in an underwater room), is telling of whether water or drowning is his weakness. For the record, I do think water/drowning is/would have been David's weakness. After all, it is David's realization that his nightmares were of the weakness he overcame, which led to his realization that an Epic's weakness is their greatest fear, that which they have nightmares about. If water/drowning were not his greatest fear, that thought process leading him to those realizations would not make much sense.
  12. His nightmares would only matter after he becomes an Epic. We have no reason to believe nightmares about drowning, prior to Calamity's attempt, mean anything, because we only know Epics dream of their weaknesses/greatest fears. Also, to serve as devil's advocate, if David's true weakness was losing loved ones, he would have faced his fears twice by the end of Firefight (both times he thought Megan died, once in Steelheart and once in Firefight).
  13. Thanks Peter! It's an awesome feeling seeing the 100% bar on the website.
  14. Aaaaaaannnnd, it's done! According to the man's twitter, anyways.
  15. I got Poor Unfortunate Souls. I can live with that. Also, Oliver & Co. was a fun movie.
  16. But that doesn't help OP's (or rather OP's lady's) problem. The problem is intimacy. Having characters naked doesn't automatically make things intimate. Moreover, things can be incredibly intimate when not naked. Siri and Susebron were far more intimate in a single paragraph than Vin and Elend were the entire trilogy, and OP mentioned wanting more than that.
  17. I hope he finishes within the week. We'd then be able to approximate the release (Peter says it's usually around 1 year after Brandon finishes draft #1 I think).
  18. How could I miss Astoria You could also go with a really tiny city up in northeast Oregon. There's a couple along 84 before the Dalles.
  19. Salem should work. Keep in mind that "Corvallis" extends into Albany (like, half of it), so major events that occur in Salem are potentially viewable from Corvallis (explosions, etc.). The bubble is likely viewable from Salem, too. Not sure about Portland goings ons, but Salem being in between two currently used cities might cause continuity issues across threads, if we even care about that For suggestions, one city I think could be fun is Eugene. It's the last major city in Oregon not used, other than Salem. Then there's Coos Bay, as we haven't had a coastal-ish city yet.
  20. Buttercup's hair flowed in the gentle wind, the light rain pattering against her. She had already gotten soaked to the bone, and though it wasn't comfortable, she took solace in the fact that she would never get sick. The humans had successfully been confined to their homes, the police force now patrolling the streets to enforce the impromptu curfew in the area. Changing the channel on her mobile, she slowly flew back to where the Queens were. "GasMask, I need you to reroute to Bunker Beta. The rioting by the vanillas has been dealt with, but we were also attacked by a Gifted and an Epic. They don't seem to be connected, but we can't be sure. If this is a coordinated attack then Bunker Alpha is likely not safe anymore." "Copy that." GasMask, ever dilligent, mind always on task. "Buttercup out." She changed the channel back, and just in time. "Buttercup, we seem to have the situation with the rebel epic under control for the moment, but she's resisting my powers. I want you to go to the grove where Cornucopia has her industrial strength restraints, and arrange for some of the chains, anchors, and other supplies brought over. We may need to trap the epic here permanently until we can figure out her weakness or a way to move her safely. We can use some of the same restraints that we used on the Iron Ogress, but make sure that whatever is used has a good resistance to both hot and cold temperatures. Once you've made the arrangements, I want you here yourself, and try to find an Epic who is immune or at least resistant to heat, cold, and electricity. I don't want to risk you getting to close to this one." Rainmaker's orders echoed around her head for a short moment before an explosion of green light announced that Buttercup had blasted off. The rain whipped her face, but she didn't feel the pain. It had been a long time since she flew at such high speeds, and it felt good. Switching her mobile's channel once more, she spoke quickly. "Broadcast. Come in, Broadcast. This is Queen Buttercup." After a moment of silence she was about to repeat herself, with much annoyance, but the Epic responded as her mouth opened. "Ah! My liege, one of my favorite people. How can I be of service to the Queens today?" Buttercup did not much like Broadcast. "I don't have time for your antics right now. I need IcyHot and Resistor to get to the site of the speech today. A-S-A-P." "Ooh, touchy today. You got it, Your Majesty." "Thank you," Buttercup growled. She changed her channel back yet again in case something happened. It took another minute to reach the fields, Buttercup landing rather violently in her effort to hurry. As she did, multiple humans raced to her side, ready to help. It would seem the rain is already doing the trick out here. She had them help her locate the things Rainmaker asked for, loaded them in a dump truck kept on site, and then lifted the truck and took to the skies once more. Blossom continued to breath her Ice Breath into the wind tunnel. The Epic's ability to withstand the onslaught so far worried her, but as long as Rainmaker continued on, Blossom would too. How do you defeat an Epic that can absorb all types of energy? The question baffled her. Would the restraints Rainmaker was asking for help? They'd melt if the Epic had enough energy to supply, regardless of material. Melt, or combust. Sound waves were useless, light waves were useless, heat was useless. Their only hope was lack of heat. That hailstone is likely blocking any UV-rays seeping through the clouds, so she doesn't really have an energy source so long as Rainmaker stops pelting her with wind and ice. Blossom felt relief when Rainmaker opened the hole in the barrage to speak to the Epic. Rainmaker had done just what Blossom was thinking, thank Calamity. Now we only need to worry about- A thump to her left cut her train of thought. Buttercup's landing was rather loud. Louder than she wanted, but when she hurried she never bothered slowing down to normal landing speeds. Why bother when any damage your legs might sustain heals almost instantly? She placed the truck down next to her, and looked at the current mess of a situation. It was an odd sight, but Buttercup was rather impressed in the Epic's ability to hold that hailstone in place. "Here's your restraints, Rainmaker. IcyHot and Resistor are on their way as well, they should be here soon."
  21. I think Navani and Dalinar have a tender hand holding session during WoR? They also kiss a couple times? I have no idea what Mckeedee's talking about with Vin/Elend. I don't remember any contact between them.
  22. 5/10, not enough pugs. I was honestly expecting a pug mitten... I think rather than an "intro thread" the better idea would be to come up with multiple locations for various power levels. Have a location for low, mid, and high power level characters. That way, when a new comer joins, their character fits into the setting well. I'm not quite sure what the power level of the Dalles could be described as, but Corvallis has both ends of the spectrum, and Astoria is god-tier, as we all know. I think I'd call the Dalles mid-tier, but there's some powerful Epics in there too. I have a feeling that the low-tier setting will wind up rather underused, and there will actually be a need for multiple high-tier settings, but it can't hurt to give people options.
  23. I was having her finish up when she contacted GasMask about Bubbles in my last post, so she'll be returning to the group in my next post (whether of her own volition or due to orders is up to how you decide to do your Rainmaker post).
