Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Kaymyth replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
My Monday thus far: Step One: Get to work. Realize I left laptop at home. Since said laptop is also my regular work computer, this is problems. Step Two: Go home. Get laptop. Go back to work. Step Three: Get to work to find a crisis in progress. Oh, boy! Still working on solving said crisis. Or rather, I am waiting on a callback from a person with another company so that I can obtain information on how best to solve the crisis. Step Four: Getting a headache. Realize that some of the weird visual things going on in my right eye means this headache is a migraine. YAY. Luckily, my migraines are pretty mild in the grand scheme of things. Still, I'm kind of wishing that I had taken something better than acetaminophen because all that's going to do is take the edge off. Ibuprofen would have been better; naproxen would have been ideal. Now I have to wait about 4-6 hours before correcting my mistake. -
Questions like these are best asked in the book discussion forums. We have a lot of very knowledgeable folks on the boards, but they don't all read every sub-board. You're going to get better responses to this in the Mistborn forum.

Random Stuff VIII: The Admin Special
Kaymyth replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
It was created by the same friends who brought us the Gygaxian Grinder (where happened the epic gaming fail that started the True Story thread) and have a habit of going on road trips and coming back with a new game idea. Incidentally, these are the same friends who hooked me on Sanderson (and tempted me into my upcoming JordanCon adventure), so really, you have them to thank for my presence here.- 1963 replies

I believe that no deck is complete until you've taken one of the blank black cards and customized it to read: _______________, _______________. A Jedi craves not these things. Because once you've played CaH, Apples to Apples is just too tame.- 1963 replies

Wayne Disapproval Thread (Potential Wayne-related spoilers)
Kaymyth replied to aeromancer's topic in Mistborn
You are, in fact, the first autistic person I know who has expressed this opinion to me. I have quite a few RL friends on the spectrum, and the universally consider it to be part and parcel of their personality. To the point where I've heard them go off on some rather vitriolic rants about charities like Autism Speaks and flat-out classify it as a hate group. But thank you for the different perspective. -
i wonder why there isnt a greater fan presence on youtube/podcasts
Kaymyth replied to sh3nahz's topic in General Discussion
Also consider that the Song of Ice and Fire fandom ballooned when HBO created the TV series. It hit the mainstream consciousness like a wrecking ball. We Sanderfans are fewer in number because Sanderson hasn't had the same sort of media exposure as authors like Martin and Rowling. That leaves fewer resources available for crazy fan video projects.- 11 replies

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

Yes. "Queso" in Spanish means cheese - so they're tortillas wrapped around a lot of cheese and some other fillings. Many (though not all) cheeses do unpleasant things to my innards. -

Now you need to start on Farscape! Far less dark, but there are episodes that will make you bawl. And episodes that will make you laugh hysterically. Sometimes these are the same episodes.- 1963 replies

He was...worse than toxic. We'll leave it at that. Some stories don't need to be shared. It sounds like the next story write-up I need to do is the time we all played a bunch of Nac Mac Feegles and wreaked havoc across Discworld.

Cards Against Humanity is a favorite around here. If that isn't a highly inappropriate card game, I don't know what is.- 1963 replies

Welcome! We have a fairly substantial contingent of non-native English speakers on the Shard, so you'll be in good company. And interacting with us native speakers will no doubt improve your skills. Beware of the cookie-bringers. The Alley is dark and full of terrors.

OK, I have the PM started! Patar (and anyone else), just drop a request in here to ask to be added. The PM will be used to share personal info only to make it easier to find/spot each other at the con. Any actual meet-up plans should continue to go in this thread so that any newcomers and/or lurkers can find them.

I, um...look forward to it? It is a good and fertile land, and we will call it...This Land. I do enjoy me some karaoke, even if I'm generally terrible at it. (It's hard to hear from behind the speakers.)- 1963 replies

I've been following it steadily, and while I think I know what's going on, I think it's been taken too far.

Karma? (No, seriously, you're doing fine.) I can be a corruptive influence on the young. But corrupting does not automatically equal darkness! Sometimes it just adds color. My cookies are certified to be 100% hemalurgy-free. I do not dwell in the Dark Alley. I come from a magical land of sunshine, rainbows, and highly inappropriate card games. Ah, OK. I can stop thinking of this guy as being a complete chullhat, then. Still, I doubt they outright dislike you. Maybe they just aren't quite sure how to interact with you yet. You're still the New Guy; give them some time to get used to your quirks. Wedding was good. There was karaoke. Poor James suffered under the onslaught, but I got up there and sang "Jimmy Olson's Blues"- 1963 replies

Hardly. Professors are people, too, and you're really young. I imagine you have a lot more in common with some of the grads and undergrads than many of your technical "peers".

The Official Thread of Relationships
Kaymyth replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I must admit that I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to parse an 18-year-old being with it enough to actually say, "I don't want to be in a relationship." That anyone can sort through the mass of hormones and emotions that are blowing up inside them at that age and act on logic instead completely boggles my mind. What I'm saying is, I was a total idiot when I was a teenager. -

I am attending a wedding tonight, so taking off from work early in a little while. Probably going to make James tie me into a corset to squish down my belly fats. Stupid belly, why haven't you gone away yet? Little Black Dress is ready to go, as are my Doc Martens. Because combat boots are my go-to formal footwear. One of them does not a majority opinion make. Besides, you do not exist to serve the needs of others. You are there to do your job is as professional a manner as is called for in that business. So long as you're doing that and communicating job items well, feel free to ignore the peanut gallery. It was good! Though I think Lucius needs to suffer more.- 1963 replies

I thank my lucky stars that I exist within a social circle where combat boots count as acceptable formal footwear.

Have you tried joining/starting a regular board game club at the college? You'd probably get a lot of folks crawl out of the woodwork that way. Play board games AND meet geeks who aren't your students! It's a win-win. There are a ton of really good games out there, just waiting to be played.
