Wait, what?

And then you have people like me, who read Revelation as thinly-veiled political commentary that was contemporary to the time it was written, rather than actual prophecy.

Dang, did they? This isn't the version that hit my FB feed; I couldn't figure out how to link it here. I just did a search through YouTube, but didn't check the length.

FLOOFPUG I learned last night that floofcorgis exist. My world is complete.

OK, I realize that this is a year old and I am behind the times, but...rr...mmf...ailfff... No. Sorry. I don't have any forum-compatible words for my reaction to this.

That just sounds ridiculous to me. You're a legal adult. So long as you're fulfilling the duties of the job, I don't feel like they have the right to police your private life. But...well. Reason Number 576 why the traditional Christian religious structure didn't work for me.

Rule Number One: Criminals are dumb. The dumbness is generally what leads them to be criminals in the first place.

...I'd probably sneak them on my phone. (This is probably one of the reasons why Set is one of my three patron gods.)

I'm pretty sure they have internet in SoCal.

Let's address these one at a time... "Crazy Talk" - It's quite possible. You may be right. I may be crazy. (But it just may be a luuuuunatic you're lookin' foooor...) "Witch" - True. I'm a pagan and practitioner of heka. Totally accurate. "Blasphemer" - True. See above about me being pagan. So as you can see, I have no actual problem with any of these accusations.

Got it today. Read it in one sitting. Now, I actually *am* a fan of graphic novels, being exactly that sort of nerd, but the art on this one was really just terrible. Part of that is opinion based on my personal preferences; I like my artwork to have a clean, clear look to it. And this was just...messy. All those little scribbles and dots and such were downright distracting. The panels were so busy that in some places it actually took me a moment to figure out what was going on. In a visual format like this, that is a serious flaw. Also, I'm with other people - the characters looked too similar. So many bald robed dudes. It is, in fact, possible to draw bald robed dudes in such a way that each character is distinct and identifiable, but this book didn't manage it. So a bunch of background characters, from the best friend to the supposed bad guy, just sort of blurred together into one lump of messy art.

I think we can stick this one into the "self fulfilling" basket.

What Honor Spren said. For much the same reason. There's a mathematical method applicable to genealogy that shows for any given person, they will trend to becoming either the ancestor of everybody, or the ancestor of nobody. Certain individuals make it to "ancestor of everybody" faster than others.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

I listened to a few episodes of that for the first time a couple months ago. It is entertainingly weird. -
I almost forgot! I have inherited the odd Harris family superpower of randomly running into people I know in strange places. My grandparents, no matter where they vacationed, could always run into either A. someone they knew, or B. someone who knew someone they knew or were related to. It's happened to me a few times. Like randomly running into one of my old friends while at the Renaissance Festival, despite us living in completely states at the time and no prior knowledge that each other was going to be there. And last month at ConQuesT, someone randomly came up to me and asked, "Is your name Rosemary?" And then I realized that I recognized her. We went to college together, oh, 15 years ago. So that's a thing.

Spoiler cut for people who don't like prophecy shenanigans...

I seem to recall a study that showed the vast majority of people on the planet are no further related to each other than 10th cousins. Also, if you're of European descent, you have Charlemagne as an ancestor. Dude got around.

Mr. Sanderson, oh how I want to punch you!!!

If there's one thing that generally doesn't fly on this site, it's rudeness. Your tone is at the same time both snobbish and petulant, and your continued attempts at incendiary speech paint you as a troll. Quite frankly, I get tired enough of people politely complaining about "how long Stormlight is taking." You're not winning any fans here, is what I'm saying. Please go learn some basic manners, and come back when you're through. -
Don't get me wrong, Joss will absolutely break your heart. Cruelly and completely. Over and over. And you'll keep thanking him for the privilege. Definitely lies. Who could possibly love life in North Dakota?

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!

This is a remarkably common phenomenon with high-intelligence kids. It's not just you. This is a pattern, and it speaks more to a failing of the education system in general than you yourself. -
The good news: I have successfully weaseled my way out of going north 3.5 hours to spend the holiday weekend bored out of my skull in a rural place with nothing to do. The bad news: The excuse I used is actually legit - we need to spend the time working on the old house. Still to do: some painting, replacing vinyl flooring in entryway and kitchen, redoing the kitchen countertops, replacing the shower in the master bathroom. We have people coming to fix and repaint all of the siding. I'm sure I'm forgetting something in this list. Please let us be ready to put this thing up for sale by autumn...please please please...

It would take 2 years for the UK to disentangle from the EU, so I think you're OK there. And that's counting from when they serve notice, which hasn't happened yet because Parliament has to actually do something to make it happen. This is gonna move at the speed of politics, which is sloooowwww.
