I...am actually kind of glad that feature is disabled, actually. Not so much because I'm worried about Sharders finding me on FB (cause that's happened and it's fine), but because I don't want Facebook knowing about my Shard account. It already knows too much. And given the way I've seen that feature sneak up on other sites, it likes to pop up unexpectedly. If I only used the desktop site it'd probably be fine, but I do occasionally log on from mobile. I have butterfingers. It would be far, far too easy to misclick on my phone (which has my FB login saved) and accidentally link the accounts. That would, in my opinion, be disastrous. And to the best of my knowledge, it can't be undone. So, no. I would very much prefer to see that feature never show its face around these parts.

SO MUCH YES. Seriously, this is giving me renewed energy towards digging into the revision draft fixes needed for Swift as Steel. ....as in, I'm not allowed to submit my request until it is done and I have started putting it up.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Kaymyth replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Eh. I'm your age, and high school was hell. Granted, I think it was basically impossible for me to have had a good school experience. I was a socially inept nerd in a tiny school. There was no nerd "crowd" for me to hang out with, and the place was too small for me to fade into the background. So I was everyone's favorite bullying target from about ages 11-17. -
Pondering State of Sanderson 2016
Kaymyth replied to The Quiet One's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Not to mention the fact that the series isn't even half-done yet. Once Oathbringer comes out, it'll be slightly under a third. I intensely dislike the idea of starting movies up that early in a book series. Especially this one. -
Fun fact: superglue was originally invented as a surgical adhesive.

I agree with everyone else - it's amazing. I can but hope that by the time I finally get my Mistborn fanfic finished and up that you are inspired to draw some of my characters. Disclaimer: this is in no way a statement of request or pushiness or demand. Just...this is awesome, and I am envious. Innards have begun to twist around. I wasn't expecting it this soon; it's highly unusual for cramps to hit before the rest of the Monthly Harbinger of the End Times. I rifled desperately through my purse, and lo, there was a tiny bottle with two doses of Aleve. Rejoice, children, for nobody need die this day.

So, I'm at this stage of life where so many of the cultural touchstones that shaped my childhood and young adulthood are considered "history" by more and more people I interact with. And it feels so weird. Not in a 'myaaaah back in MY day!' sort of way, but in a way that makes me understand more and more why my parents and aunts and uncles and grandparents would tell me all the stories that they did when I was a kid. Because I found myself in exactly that position over the weekend. We had Second Christmas up at my mom's, with me and my husband and my brother and his family all together. Since part of our vacation last year was at Kennedy Space Center, all of the kids got one space-themed gift. The oldest nephew, B, got a Lego space shuttle that was pretty cool. So B was asking us about our trip and what all was at the space center, and so we told him about the rocket garden and the trip out to the launch pads and the space shuttle launch simulator and, oh yeah, Atlantis is hanging inside one of the buildings and you can get a really close look at it now. He was, naturally, curious about the shuttle program. He wanted to know why we didn't have shuttles anymore. That somehow led to us telling him about how two of the shuttles were lost and specifically about how the Challenger disaster happened when we were kids. (James and I, at least. My brother is too young to remember it, as he wasn't quite three when it happened.) Me: "We watched it live in class; I was in third grade when it happened." B: "That's what grade I'm in!" So he insisted on seeing what I had seen, so we went onto YouTube and we pulled up a copy of the original video feed. He saw the applause as the shuttle lifted off, and witnessed those moments before people knew things were about to go horribly wrong. He saw the explosion and heard the stunned silence on the news channel. And he heard the mission control guy struggle to keep his voice under control and professional, but you could hear the increase in stress and sorrow as realization set in that the shuttle had been lost. It was still history, but for that moment it was a little more real. And I get it now. I get why all of my older relatives tell those stories, because they're not just stories. They're pieces of their lives that in small ways, made them who they are.

I don't think you need to hide anything. I don't see a fight here, I see a good discussion about what in that post was problematic and why. So long as you are taking something constructive from this discussion and nobody is yelling at anybody else, we're all good here. And, to be frank, I think that most of us have things that bug us that would be impolitic to actually express or act upon. To take a silly (fake) example, I could say that I can't stand to see people wearing the color orange. It's just such a horrible color, it flatters nobody, everybody looks awful in this color! Things I am allowed to do in polite society: * Feel vaguely annoyed every time I see people wearing orange. * Refuse to wear orange under any circumstances. * When asked, politely defer and say that I am simply not all that fond of the color. Things I am not allowed to do in polite society: * Complain publicly about how awful people are who wear orange. * Tell people that their fashion choices are terrible. * Treat people who wear orange terribly.

I don't know if it's a hard limit or if the site actually tries to "learn" where you usually log in from. I definitely manage fine from home or work, phone is iffy (but I'm barely ever on the site from my phone). Logged in from my mom's this weekend and it booted me off all of the others. I dunno. It's not really a huge issue. I just count it as a way to keep from forgetting my password entirely.

There were, in fact, a few things in that post that grated on me. However, it is quite possible to discuss those things in a polite and reasoned manner. I just don't have the energy to do it myself on a Monday after spending the weekend at my mother's.

I have two words for you: Karaoke Night It's always Karaoke Night somewhere.

It would be better if it didn't.

Hugging Squirrels and Introductions, Brandon Con?
Kaymyth replied to Ephrem's topic in Introduce Yourself!
The closest we've got is actually JordanCon; it's got an entire Sanderson track. And Team Sanderson themselves are quite fond of that con. -
If so, I am very concerned about the potential ramifications of a virus jumping from human to computer. I'd chalk that up to the database rebuilding. Give it time.

Usually at least a couple a year, though last year was insane and I went to five. I regularly attend JordanCon in Atlanta, and I am on staff with ConQuesT here in Kansas City.

Most people have been getting double posts. I've been getting quadruple posts. Because apparently I'm that special. I will continue to amuse myself by writing silly messages in the explanation boxes as I hide them.
-
Yes, I'm experiencing these problems as well. I sent Chaos a PM - I'm not sure whether he has notifications for those switched on, but hopefully he'll get the message soon. I'm sure he'll find this appropriately exasperating. (Now to hit Submit and wait to see how many extras I need to hide.)

I hid the extras. The forum is doing some weird things and errors are causing multiposts. I have PM'd Chaos about it.

OK, I'm game! I am redhead (not that it matters when you're doing a B&W sketch), skewing towards the auburn end of the spectrum. It's straight (though sometimes I curl it) and about chin-length at an angled bob (shaggy ends, not blunt). I am very much of Scotch-Irish and English descent. Rounded oval face, not precisely a snub nose but just a bit of a bulb shape on the end of it (English nose, essentially), lips not too thin but not absurdly full, either. If I'm posing for a picture, my smile is usually sassy and quirked more over to one side than the other. My lips don't curve upwards very much at a smile, but my eyes crinkle up. At about 5'6" and 20-30 pounds overweight, I'm a bit pudgy at the moment, but not overly so. When at cons, I counter the belly fluff with corsetry. (If any of you ever actually meet me at a con, I will likely be in costume.)

Hi, Deana! You've probably seen me comment on both the Storm Cellar and the JordanCon FB groups. I'm Rosemary Williams. Welcome to the really, really deep rabbit hole!
