  1. AUGH MY PRECIOUS EARS (I can play recorder well.)
  2. This sort of thing always makes me feel better about my writing.
  3. I disagree. Recorder can be awful. This is true. Few orchestras are enough to contain the awesomeness of multiple oboes. Though you can crack 'em open a little further if you slip in an English horn. Hmm. I'm tempted, but I don't know if you've combed through all of the thread. There are already pictures of me snuck in throughout the site.
  4. It can vary by state. Some allow a left-turning car to go into the right lane if traffic is free. Other states prohibit it. Either way, what you described should not happen. Extra bonus fun: when there is enough snow on the ground that nobody can see where the lanes are!
  5. Worse than that, it's dangerous. If you muddy the rules, then people get confused, and confused people get into accidents. One of the reasons why I absolutely refuse to take right of way when it is not legally mine is if I did so and someone screwed up and there was an accident, I would be the one at fault.
  6. People who try to put "politeness" before the rules of the road. This morning, as happens so many mornings, I was at the intersection out of my subdivision. The light went green. I wanted to turn left, while an oncoming car wanted to turn right. In the United States, right turn as the right of way, so I waited my turn. The person turning right waited, too. And tried to wave me through. I laid on the horn and said some impolite things that the other driver (fortunately) could not hear. They turned. And then I turned. AS THE LAW SAYS IT SHOULD BE.
  7. Ah-ha! Fellow double-reed artiste! (I play the oboe.)
  8. And some Sharders were born after that. I think there's just a general phenomenon that once you've reached adulthood/made it through college, childhood becomes "Then" and adulthood becomes "Now". Because even pushing 40, I have trouble comprehending the fact that I've been an adult for longer than I was a kid.
  9. Heh. I have an amusing anecdote about @ThirdGen and his girlfriend. ThirdGen's Girlfriend: "This movie was so awesome! It was JUST like the video game!" ThirdGen: (to me, later) "It was terrible. It was just like the video game."
  10. Eh. That is...further back in time than I thought it was. So probably not. News flash, kids! When you get old (like me), time runs faster. It's true. I still seem to think that everything that happened after the year 2000 is "didn't that just happen, like, yesterday?"
  11. Bunnies! I prefer adorable apocalypses.
  12. XD OK, well, there's the creation myth that's linked in my signature. And then there's this little gem that I posted in The Herd a while back: So far, that's it, really. At least as far as fiction goes.
  13. He posted one in his reply to you on the previous page. It's underneath a spoiler tag, but it's there.
  14. Yay. I have a fairly cohesive plot arc that's built up in my head over the past 24 hours. I may have to continue it.
  15. But if she'd done that, then how do you get the big battle at the end? The fleet mobilized because the dominoes started to fall when the team took off. If it's a semi-legitimate stealth mission, then the fleet stays still (unless you have Mothma deliberately subverting her own command structure to manipulate the fleet into mobilizing). Without the fleet, the Death Star plans don't make it off the planet.
  16. Well, it gets pudgy folks such as myself out and walking around. Lots. I am in favor of video games that help me become less pudgy.
  17. That explains why a few things went kerblooey earlier. But is fixing now, because you are the bestest.
  18. Thank you! I haven't really written all that much that's been posted yet; my big WIP is a Mistborn Era 2 fanfic that's grown into a planned story arc of multiple novels because I am a crazy person. I really do need to get something polished up enough to post, but I figure in the meantime, this might whet people's appetites. I have some ideas for where I could go with this, so I think I can put together a decent short story out of it.
  19. Huh. @Chaos, did something weird happen with the database again? In other news, I am shamelessly plugging this wee little thing that I just wrote: It's short. Super-short. And it might be a terrible idea, but you know how invasive plot bunnies can get.
  20. So.  I wrote a thing.

    It's a little thing, but it's a thing.

  21. So, this thing sorta popped into my head tonight. I'll warn you, it's dark - definitely several shades darker than the source material. But hey, it's something to read while I polish up my big work. Might be there's more story to this, if people want me to write it. This didn't take terribly long to pop out.
  22. I'm reading this amusingly ridiculous novel called "Last Call at the Nightshade Lounge." Bartenders are monster hunters. No joke. And they give themselves superpowers by mixing up magical cocktails. There's magic booze, guys.
  23. Eh. My job is what pays the bills and keeps me flush with enough disposable income to do the things I actually love to do. Writing, costuming, crafting - those are the things I actually want to do with my life.
  24. @Slowswift, we got another one!
  25. D'oh. Fixed the grammar; it should make more sense now. (And really, that's what this Random Stuff thread series is. It's totally like an ongoing chatroom. It started as random nonsense and developed into a community thread.)
