Still Having a Bad Day? Exchange Your Rants For Hugs Here!
Kaymyth replied to Silverblade5's topic in General Discussion
It was harder seeing him in that state. My mental image of my grandparents continues to be the younger, vibrant versions of themselves they were when I was a kid spending weekend at their house. (They would totally let me stay up late to watch Doctor Who on the local PBS station. You know, back in the days when Classic Who was the only Who.) Anyway, according to my own personal theology, he'll hang around for a bit to bid goodbyes at the funeral, and then move on. I strongly suspect, though, that he won't go any farther than the City of the Dead; he'll wait for my grandmother before he moves on to any sort of proper afterlife/reincarnation/whatevertheychoosetodofromthere. -

Granddaddy was taken off oxygen today, and passed away this evening. He would have turned 94 on the 21st. May his mind finally be clear of the confusion wrought from the frailties of his physical form. (My husband proceeded to snuggle-hover over me until I reassured him that I was all right.) -
Welcome! You should be able to do that in your Profile settings. Once you're in the "Edit My Profile" screen, there's a button there for uploading a new avatar.

Welcome to the madhouse! Warning: do not eat any cookies offered to you. Our local bakers have a bad habit of using Hemalurgy as a spice.

I kept yelling at Coulson, telling him to just shoot Ward in the head and leave him there, but did he listen? No! Why does nobody ever listen to me when I shout at the TV screen?

*looks at the 112k-word Mistborn Era 2 fanfic novel she has out to beta readers right now* ....maybe?

Well, one of my wedding photos is up in the pictures thread. If it were me, I'm sure you'd recognize me. ...it probably wasn't me, though. Gingers just have great taste in wedding theatre. (One of the big readings at my wedding was G'Kar's Declaration of Principles from Babylon 5. It was a really geeky wedding.)

I've got more where that came from! Vin: *feeling gracious* "OK, Elend, it's your turn to punch Ati." Elend: *looks back and forth between the two of them* Nah, I'm good. Vin: *eyetwitch* Later... Elend: "So, Leras, what the heck was up with stabbing me? Not cool, man." Leras: "Ugh! I keep telling people, that wasn't me! It was that weird cognitive shadow I left behind! I was already technically dead!" Elend. "Oh..." *pause* "So, wanna play checkers?" Leras: "Sure!" Ati: "Dude, watch out. He cheats." Leras: "Oh, come on, it was one time!"

Can you imagine the awkward afterlife conversations that would come of this? Ati: "Um, hi, Vin. So, er....sorry about trying to destroy the world and stuff." Vin: ... Ati: *shuffles awkwardly* Vin: *punches Ati*

Fun fact: This speech was actually done at my wedding.

They're in Tahiti! (It's a magical place.)

That might be the key - that Ruin had taken over most of the Inquisitors so fully that their minds weren't able to wrap themselves around the method. Ruin can't do it directly because of how harshly it runs counter to his Intent. But Marsh - maybe he left Marsh a bit more wiggle room in terms of self-awareness? Using him as his "special" Inquisitor perhaps meant that he didn't control him quite so closely as the others, which means that perhaps Marsh had more ability to access things like Compounding.

ThinkGeek has cool stuff for everyone! Bastille is also a really good band. -
I don't think that Saze can worldhop without messing with Scadrial's Investiture. He's probably got kandra out doing it for him. I imagine he is freaking right the frell out about that new godmetal.

Doctor Who is Cosmere in my headcanon. (The Doctor isn't an Epic; he's not even human!) ....we should probably stop derailing this thread so badly. Um. Steris continues to be made entirely of awesome. True facts.

Welcome back! This is a problem with paranormal literature. Who wouldn't want to learn more about werewolf / vampire subculture? (Disclaimer: I am not opposed to reading smut, so long as it is well-written and adds something to the plot and/or character development.) -

Thanks. My inner child is sticking her fingers in her ears, squeezing her eyes shut, and insisting that her grandparents are immortal. Adult Me will get through this. Gods know I've been through worse. -

Both of my paternal grandparents moved into assisted living a while ago. Recently, Granddaddy got moved into the Alzheimers ward because he's just been so confused and out of it. It was still close enough, though, that my grandmother could go visit him regularly and help him with meals, etc. She's about one of the last people left that he recognizes (they've been married for over 70 years). Over the weekend, Granddaddy fell and broke his hip. He had to be transferred to a hospital in a different town because of the level of care needed. Mammo can't visit him anymore, so he's even more confused and isn't doing well. His 94th birthday is in two weeks, and we're not sure that he's going to make it that far. Here's the thing: he's miserable, confused, and in pain, and the person that he's been emotionally dependent on can't be there. Even before this happened, he was deeply unhappy with the state of things, and if he does pull through this, it's going to be a long slog and he's going to get even more disconnected from the world. This is a World War II veteran who flew as a Navy fighter pilot; helplessness is not a thing he does well. But he also doesn't know how to stop fighting. I don't know. Is it too much to ask from the Universe that he finally get a chance to rest now? -

This is why I double-save all of my writing. It's on my laptop hard drive AND on a thumb drive. I am so paranoid about losing so much hard work. *dancey-dancey!* -
That is a question that has never been answered in-show, to my knowledge.

You...you painted a portrait of my dog! O.O -
I recently switched over to my pony self! Note the musical cutie mark - I play lots of instruments. My former avatar was ponified Eva, the main character from the fanfic novel that's in beta reading right now. I'll probably switch back over to Eva while I'm putting up the chapters, and then bounce back afterwards. I don't have a signature yet. I should probably get on that one of these days.
