  1. We've been pretty happy with T-Mobile, but that's with a family plan. I do think they're less expensive than a lot of the other carriers out there, and their coverage has been getting better of late. But I strongly suggest that you poke around and do some comparison shopping on your own.
  2. There is really just no pleasing that man, is there?
  3. I keep on having the random thought pop into my head, "You know, since my dad's here this weekend, maybe we could pop out and see a matinee showing of...wait, no. James is on call." No movies when the husband is tethered to his phone and computer!
  4. Feruchemy breaking physics on the human body I can get behind. Having it affect something like the mechanics on a gun you happen to be holding is where I draw the line. There's no evidence anywhere else that Feruchemy can affect anything other than yourself. As for how she got so much speed, I think there's something behind the idea that she got really, really clever with trading out her spikes and managed to cobble together some level of Compounding.
  5. True enough. Though when it comes down to deciding between "this shouldn't be possible because physics" and "the protagonist made an incorrect assumption" I'm going to go with the choice that doesn't break physics until I am presented with compelling evidence to the contrary.
  6. Well, I suppose if y'all want to be Hemalurgically spiked, I'm not gonna stop you...
  7. Actually, this was Wax's assumption. If you go back and read the fight scene itself, Winsting distinctly hears multiple gunshots fired. I think, in this case, Wax was simply wrong. In his defense, though, he had an awful lot on his mind. The physics of how fast one can fire a gun probably wasn't high on his list of things to ponder in depth.
  8. There's also the cold stare, and the flat, "So kind of you to take an interest."
  9. There is a balance to be struck. Comfortable clothes are comfortable, natch, but dressing fancy has its place. Of course, properly fitted fancy clothes shouldn't be horribly uncomfortable; comfort is the trade-off our society has made with off-the-rack clothing. Just take the difference in women's shapewear. Most women nowadays will wear something like Spanx to keep things tucked away. Spanx are the most horrible, uncomfortable, godsawful things I've ever had the misfortune to put on my body. I can't wear them for more than an hour or two before I start feeling slightly nauseous. However, a well-made corset that's sized to me specifically? Don't let the popular notion of corsets fool you - those things are infinitely more comfortable than "modern" shapewear. I can wear one all day without any trouble or breathing difficulties, and I have asthma. Granted, I don't tightlace, but the waist reduction is still nice. But it doesn't squish me in all over, it just moves the layers of fluff around to give me a more pleasing shape.
  10. At least our staff here are making sure the Shard remains as spoiler-free as possible. This corner of the internet is (relatively) safe!
  11. Ahoy and welcome! (Don't take the cookie.)
  12. I'm amazed that nobody's broken a tooth on the baked goods yet.
  13. For being a secret dinosaur.
  14. But then who's got the funk?
  15. I think we still need to get a WoB to pin down whether a Leecher is capable of burning out spikes the target is not capable of burning themselves. We don't know exactly how they target the metals, so there are a few possibilities: 1) The Leecher targets the metals in their victim's system directly. All burn off (in the appropriate order, as applicable). 2) The Leecher targets the Allomancer to force the victim to burn out their metals. (This seems to be a lot more likely to be how Nicrosil would work and is a rather questionable scenario for Chromium.) 3) The Leecher targets the metals directly, but uses the victim's own power somehow to "find" them. In this scenario, the Leecher can only "reach" the metals that the victim is able to sense.
  16. The husband is on call this week, so no movies for us. We'll probably see it after the holiday madness is over (i.e. we both are taking Monday the 28th off and will likely see it then).
  17. If all of my friends suddenly started jumping off a cliff, I'd be looking around to see what's scaring them so badly that leaping off into certain death is a preferable alternative.
  18. Yup. Curling irons and lots and lots of hairspray. Gods, so much hairspray. Egads. That's an extreme example. I never saw anything that crazy.
  19. It could also be as simple as Wayne being loyal to Wax, and so he's Harmony's by default/extension. Wayne himself obviously isn't very religious, strictly speaking.
  20. Of course I'll hear you. I read every post on the Random thread. But seriously, I got nothin'. My high school days were in the era of tightrolled jeans, floofy hair, and bangs that were supposed to stand straight up. How do you even judge, coming from that madness?
  21. Oooh, the pendanticism is strong with this one. I'm picturing your deer-horned ponyself riding one of those cartoony pump-action train cars.
  22. I think I saw a seagull this morning. I...I live in KANSAS.

I did not know that. That's hilarious. XD

Well, there's some awesome history with Utah and seagulls, but yeah. :P

I used to see seagulls all the time when I lived in Wyoming. WYOMING. Of course, it meant that my sister (two or three at the time) saw them circling overhead and said "Look, Mommy! Eagles!"

  23. An alternative that's been bandied about the board: "Twinawesome"
  24. Look again. It's 12,000, not 21,000. That's right. Kobold King has a 2:1 rep-to-post ratio. (He's kind of a legend around these parts.)
  25. Given that gravity isn't really so much a pull as it is the object itself changing the shape of space-time around it, it seems to me that perhaps Reverse Lashing actually makes a change to the warp of space-time around the object it's attached to.
