  1. I disagree. The world is totally ready.
  2. I'm feeling the itch. Even though book 1 is still in beta, I'm feeling like I need to start writing the next one. Moar Eva shenanigans. I need to remember to grab my notes from my desk at work; I was scribbling plot outline stuff out during a slow time and left my notebook there.
  3. Self-care is something that nobody should ever be ashamed of. If you don't have the spoons, you don't have them. It's hard sometimes to shoot someone a reassuring message and have that be that - we live in a day of instant communication, and it's not always easy to break off a texted conversation gracefully. Maybe you could come up with a code for your friends? Some word or phrase that says, "I'm OK, but I'm not up for any sort of people-interaction, so please don't respond right now." Now I know - next time, just get the whole pomegranate and do the work to get the good stuff.
  4. Or, to take a quote from Angel - "If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do." Basically, if nothing that we do matters on the larger scale, then the only actions we can take that do matter are the ones that impact the people around us. Why does the grander scale have to be the only measuring stick? If we help one person, make someone smile, then by at least one person's point of view we've made their world just a little bit better. This is also known as the Starfish Principle: A child is walking along the beach, throwing stranded starfish back into the water. Another person walks up and says, "Why are you bothering? There are thousands of dying starfish on this beach. You can't possibly make a difference." The child looks down at the starfish in her hand and throws it into the ocean. "It makes a difference to this one."
  5. The Dark Alley is recruiting 'em young these days...
  6. Welcome! Watch out for the cookies; they have some rather distressingly metallic spices. (Yes, read Mistborn. Reeeeeead iiiiiit!) I took a few semesters of Italian back in college. Alas, that was pretty much back in the Dark Ages, so I really only remember about enough to be able to correct everybody's pronunciation.
  7. Aaaand we've got a new Order of the Stick fan for the forum!
  8. Hi, Manavortex! I have several friends who are at various points on the spectrum, as well as a 4-year-old nephew. And you're in good company here on the Shard, too; we have a number of members who are autistic, too. You might eventually want to ask staff to move this over to the AMA sub-board. Yes, we actually have an entire board for Ask Me Anything threads. Quiver started a trend last year.
  9. Especially when you have an entire sewing room and costuming wardrobe to move. Eesh. So much stuff. Hah! Please don't give me the blog link. I'm not sure I'd be able to resist the urge to snark. I try to be good!
  10. It IS Steris on the cover! Yay! But yeah, you're right there - Wax does have a right to be angry and upset. It's just when he starts on about how Harmony hadn't even apologized that I start thinking, "Well, of course not! You haven't let him!" I dunno, it felt more like a setup for the, "That's the song that was playing when we met," line. Wayne has a weird sense of romanticism.
  11. We just bought and moved into a new house in May. The very idea of packing everything and moving again gives me the shakes. (Besides, I'd never be able to walk into the same ZIP code as your mother without insulting her to her face. I knows my limits.)
  12. All....all the pomegranates? *wibble*
  13. What Delightful said. And as to the last - then you get to move to Iowa! And be far, far away from your annoying parents! And prove your adult-ness in ways you never dreamed possible! (We will totally help you with that last bit as needed, but you don't have to tell your folks that.)
  14. Lame complaint: Last night, we were shopping, and the Bullseye Store had little cups of pomegranate seeds. Yay! Pomegranate seeds I don't have to work to pry out of the rind! Woot! This morning, I open my cup of pomegranate seeds. Erm, they're not supposed to smell like that. I gingerly eat one...nope, they're not supposed to taste like that, either. I have fermenting pomegranate in my fridge. No pomegranate seeds for me. Tis sad. Do you have access to the hot water heater's thermostat? You may be set to a really low safety setting by default. And then fixed again to put him at the green he should be in.
  15. See, now, Kansas is part of the Midwest, but I'm not sure that we can claim Ohio. They're just so...east. Well, they're all, like, really big. The same size as many European countries. We've got a stupid lot of space out here in the States is what I'm saying.
  16. I would respectfully disagree. Remember, Harmony possesses Preservation's precognitive abilities; MeLaan said outright that Harmony "predicted disaster" if Wax had been told the truth. The exact form that disaster would have taken is unknown to us, but it's not unreasonable to think that it would have been, well, really bad. This wasn't a matter of trust. This was a matter of peeking into the future and seeing some really bad stuff coming 'round the bend if you made the wrong choice. Did the ends justify the means? It's hard to say for sure without knowing exactly what Harmony saw coming, but it could've been anything from Wax's own death to a nasty defeat in the first battle of an interShardic war.
  17. There's another thread for (the real) Chapter 4. It's safe to assume that everyone posting in that thread is. ETA: Look for the one started by Argent.
  18. Well, he was reading the Cosmere version of Watership Down at the end of AoL, so yeah, he can read. He's also full of crap a lot of the time, so his jokes in SoS about not being able to write were probably just that: jokes. And no, you're not the only one who suspects that Telsin might not be a victim, though I'm on the fence about whether she's a willing participant. I figure it's at 50/50 - could go either way.
  19. It is...uncharacteristically petulant of him. I get that he's angry, and he totally has a right to be angry, but he's not going to be able to deal with his anger in any sort of emotionally healthy way until he's at least given Harmony a chance to explain. I think a lot of it is his refusal to admit that there's even a possibility that not knowing who Bleeder really was could've been a good thing. He never would've been willing to hurt her if he'd known she was Lessie. He would've made mistakes. And he's still so in love with her that he can't deal with the idea that she would have killed him if he messed up badly enough.
  20. Really, Wax? You're complaining about Harmony not apologizing to you when you haven't even put an earring in long enough for him to get a word in to you? Oh, sure, he could have a kandra do it for him, but then you'd justify it as, "He couldn't even say it to me himself!" Dude. Just put the rusted earring in for five minutes. It won't kill you. And Wayne! Look at you, being all adult and stuff! I'm so proud. *snif* Oh, wait, moment's over. Yeah, you're still Wayne.
  21. You could spare yourself all of that shame and pain by just waiting until you're supposed to. You know. If you wanted to.
  22. I am torn. Should I wear my fancy steampunk top hat, or my Jayne Cobb Very Cunning Hat? Decisions! And once again, we will all hate you for it.
  23. The cuddly cobras think you're awesome as you are. (Think those adorable cobras are the best thing ever? Go read a webcomic called Skin Horse! You won't regret it.)
  24. It's a carryover from the US cover. Brandon's acknowledged that it's a problem, but wanted a gun on the cover and Wax's hands were too low and out of the shot. He said to just pretend like Wayne was carrying it for Wax. But this cover clearly shows Wax carrying a revolver, so that dang thing isn't even necessary anymore. And he still has his finger in the trigger guard!
