  1. Oh, look, Rubix is trolling! Or he's not. It's so hard to tell sometimes. ...no. I really do need to whip together a Yoda to learn what I'm doing so that I can then start creating patterns for Cosmere characters. That sort of thing would be a great little portable project to cart around at cons. Well, when you put it that way...
  2. Technically, yes, but it comes out sounding like a type of soul-devouring pasta. There are a number of creative things I could be working on right now. Armored Jean Grey costume. Crocheted amigurumi. Starting to design my Eva cosplay. Outlining the next fanfic novel. But what I am doing? Hitting refresh over and over on the Shard...
  3. Disney's Aladdin. It's the Genie's definition of what it's like to be a genie.
  4. Welp, there goes the neighborhood. And we thought we were in trouble when Rubix went on a rampage, with Voidus wielding power, we're all gonna wind up looking like a bunch of hemalurgic porcupines! Seriously, dude, congrats. Again. (Aren't these things supposed to come in threes? First Voidus Jr, now being crowned a mod...what's next? Next ultrasound revealing twin Voiduses? Voidi? What's the plural for Voidus, anyway?)
  5. Glad to be of service!
  6. It definitely got better for me. Of course, I went from a small town podunk high school to a college with a very high concentration of nerds, which helped lots. For intelligent nerdy types, college is a godsend because it has a tendency to concentrate similar people into a smaller geographical space.
  7. The way I see it, there's also a potential double-meaning to the title. Spoilers for Shadows of Self: But that might just be a dumb theory.
  8. Because you're a human teenager with emotions and hormones and stuff. You're perfectly normal, there.
  9. I believe I was just commenting the other day about how baffling the distribution of upvotes could be. What we're really experiencing here is a clash of two subcultures within the board. I've got some level of activity within both of them, and I've long noted the disparity between the two realms. Watching the back-and-forth on this thread has been really interesting from a sociological standpoint. I can certainly see both sides, here. My first forays into the Forum were on the Mistborn board, so my initial experiences with the rep system were that it was tough to earn. Then I stumbled onto the General Discussion threads, and my rep level shot up. There are a lot of things that I've seen upvotes on mine that I just sit back and think, "Huh. I didn't really think I was that funny." And then I'll craft a post with some thought-out theoretical pondering and be left wondering the next day if anyone had even read it. So I have the conflict within. One the one hand, there's the ridiculous little creature inside me that wants to hug and pet all my little upvotes and call them George. On the other...I look at my ranking on the top 50 list, and see myself ranked higher than top-level theorists like Kurkistan, closing in slowly on Moogle, and think, "That's not right. I didn't earn this - not like they did." And it kind of throws me for a loop. And here's the thing - I do, in fact, value some of my upvotes more than others. The rep that I gain from my minor insights on the Mistborn boards, that means more than what I got for the silly jokes about Doctor Who being Cosmere1. For what I share of my cosplay projects and writing, those mean a huge amount to me just by virtue of how much time and work I put into those creations. I feel like those should be solid gold instead of green. But even those pale in comparison next to the comments. Feedback is the food on which the soul of the creator survives. A number in green is nice, but the little notification in my e-mail that says "17th Shard" blows it all away. Truth is, I would feel sad if the rep system were reset or removed altogether.2 And Chaos has said that trying to split it up or otherwise complicate it would be too unwieldy to code.3 I like the idea of adding in the awards system (I haven't been around long enough to remember what those were like) to supplement things. People crave feedback of all kinds, so having alternatives to the rep system might indeed be the answer we need. Heh. I've had that happen a few times. I've learned that sometimes, no response from him is a good response. It means that he still may not quite agree with what I'm saying, but he can't find anything wrong with it, either. 1 Though it totally is. 2 Of course, I also feel sad whenever I see a lonely glove or shoe lying by the side of the road, so take that with a grain of salt. 3 My husband is a systems administrator who delves into a bit of coding, so I know a bit more than I should just by listening to him curse at his computer screen occasionally. Trust me when I say that Chaos is not only not exaggerating about the difficulty in board upgrades with all those customizations, but is probably actually understating it. Some of the suggestions I've seen so far would ultimately cause him much wailing and gnashing of teeth.
  10. Work decompression: OK, so I've had basically this conversation with customers many, many times this week: Me: "So, we sent you a new widget. It has better software to handle all your international superspy* needs!" Them: "Oh! We were wondering what that was for." Me: "...there's a letter in there that explains everything." Them: "Really? Oh! We hadn't opened the box." Me: "The box that has a brightly colored sticker on it that says, 'IMPORTANT WIDGET UPDATE INSIDE'?" Them: "Right, that box!" Me: *headdesk* *This is not actually what our customers do. Probably.
  11. ...are you one of my workplace's executives? Ye gods, the paperwork that Redacted, Inc goes through.
  12. How did Kaladin ever meet Vin?
  13. Come to the Guild of Arts. We can never have too many music nerds.
  14. That is gorgeous!
  15. Before Chuck Norris there was Teddy Roosevelt. Chuck Norris wishes he were as awesome as Teddy Roosevelt.
  16. Hee! That sounds about par for the course of darkness. Don't mistake me for being part of the DA, mind. I just reserve the right to say stuff that sounds like I'm from a faction for the sake of funny.
  17. This is precisely what worries me most. I think Admin need to give her a set of custom 17th Shardplate Quota Armor.
  18. I dunno, but bed sounds like a fantastic idea. I'd better sneak around the house and gather up all the trash first, though. That's normally James's thing to do on Thursdays, but I fear that I may have, erm, encouraged him to fall asleep early.
  19. Ahh, now we're in Stage Two of the experiment. After shaking loose our psyches with taking away the voting system, they have now given us back downvotes only. Now they'll take notes as they wait to see if we spiral into a Lord of the Flies tribal state.
  20. Admin still have access to the votes. Nah, people just really like Flufflepuff. Aha! Kobold King is getting too close to discovering the next crazy-high rep level! Chaos's secrets are at risk of being exposed!
  21. My poor kidlets are all falling apart... EDIT: Oh, great, now I'm giving him ideas.
  22. Just...just watch the Flufflepuff video...it'll be OK...
  23. OK, I can't take this anymore. WASING THE HAPPY OF JOYS
  24. Nobody is safe from Rubix. This...this is not a thing that I am familiar with.
