Oooh, that one about an Aluminum prosthetic in the body is super neat. -
Skyward: Nov 08, 2018 [El Cerrito, CA] (Barnes & Noble #2113)

@Fully_Invested Thanks again! I have not had a chance to listen to the podcast in full. I have figured that some were lost - in the sea, buried in crem, etc, but others were very much not lost, and have been speculating as to where they are. I've been wanting to ask questions in this vein for a while, and your question is confirmation that I needed. If ever I get a chance to go to a signing, I have one less in my list. So thanks for helping the theories along, and a particular thanks for mine. -

Thanks to whoever asked about the missing blades. I itch to pull that thread and ask questions in that vein. I'm just never near a signing to go ask in person, and find out about reddit events after they are over. So thanks, I have a lot of questions on that vein, and you getting confirmation that they are still out there helps! -
I have not finished yet, SO I don't know the ending. But knowing Defending Elysium, and how it is a brain thing for FTL, and that they assume he had the 'defect' that allows it... I don't think that Chaser deserted and was shot down. I think in the high-stress environment, he accidentally FTL jumped away from the fight, and they had to make up a story to explain his disappearance. And Ironsides decided he could be a black sheep. I'm not married to this theory. But I'm also not finished with the book. So we'll see where it ends up.

I could also swear that M-bot mentions that his Cytonic Hyperdrive is offline in Chapter 17. But then I was up most of the night reading in a blur, and may be crossing my wires. That was my link. It has been long enough since I've read defending elysium that I did not remember the defect/cytonic part of the brain. I will be reading it again after finishing skyward, before I re-read skyward more slowly and carefully.

Cryptics always seem to express as a pattern in the Physical Realm. We often see them drawn as a shifting pattern with rotational symmetry - usually with between six and eight 'arms' of symmetry. If Sja-Anat were to corrupt a cryptic, how would it appear in the Physical realm? Would it still look like a pattern, just a different type? No longer with rotational symmetry? Would it be asymmetric? Would look like a fractal?

Dalinar was able to capture Nergaoul because he truly understood the spren, and was attractive to it. Nergaoul could be explained as the anti-Bondsmith spren, as he erodes the bonds between people. With the thrill, people divide and fight senselessly rather than unite. A Lightweaver captured Re-Shepnir, as they are closely related. They both study human nature and create images, shadows, to varying degrees of accuracy. They can understand each other. I do not think that Ashertmarn is the ant-Windrunner spren. Revelry and gluttony do not seem to be the opposite of leadership and protection. I see the Windrunners being far more useful against Sja-Anat or Ba-Ado-Mishram. That said, the gluttony and revelry aspect does have some connection to addiction. So while it doesn't quite feel right to me, I would read the damnation out of watching Teft conquer and capture this spren.

Nice haul. Though now, after seeing the one about Hoid's love interests, I am curious, does Hoid have any children and/or descendants running around the Cosmere? -
Why did Nin give Szeth the option of obeying Dalinar?
Stark replied to ND103's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think it is just Szeth. All Skybreaker's get to choose the law they swear to uphold for Oath three. I think that two Skybreakers could swear to uphold opposing laws and still be allies, like Szeth and Nale appear to have done. I think Nale understands that he can suggest what the novice Skybreakers swear to when they become Journeymen, but will not force them. Because an Oath sworn under duress is the oath most often broken. If they don't want to harm the spren, and they want the spren to accept their words, they need to swear Oaths that they believe, not Oath's that they are forced to. So Szeth is not likely to be special in that regard, they all get the same choice. Szeth is special due to his advanced training, and his single-minded pursuit of his oaths to his own detriment with no supernatural binds to force his hand, which led Nale to choose to be his sponsor/patron. -
I was... disappointed. I really, really liked the other two legion stories. This one felt a little Brandon avalanche-y without the build up. I just did not connect with the second half of the story. It was not a satisfying ending to me, because he suffered all this loss, but resolved it in a way that felt almost too easy. I really like the premise, I really like the character and his aspects. The end just left me feeling... That's it? I don't want to go into spoilers, but I am glad there was no miracle solution. But certain things happened with such speed that they felt like they lost meaning. I'm going to give it a week or two, and then re-read the whole thing. Hopefully that will give me a different impression of the ending. Because I really, really want to like this finale. But right now, I just feel a little let down.

Legion: The Many Lives of Stephen Leeds Release Party
Stark replied to Wyndlerunner's topic in Events and Signings
I'm curious about this too, but for different reasons. When Nightblood was awakened, he had a different name. Vasher changed it to Nightblood after they realized how they had messed up and what they had created. Nightblood has issues with time (a little like dogs), and thinks that Shashara is still alive. So Nightblood might not think that his name is Nightblood, only that that is how Vasher calls him. And seeing as Nightblood never refers to himself in the third person, we don't know if he thinks of himself as Nightblood, or as his original name. So what does Nightblood think his name is? I really need to start to travel to these so I can start asking my questions. -
Legion: The Many Lives of Stephen Leeds Release Party

Navani then thanks Szeth for saving her a messy divorce.... As for Honor and loopholes, I don't see a loophole or a breaking of the pact in the Rosharan situation. The pact was to go separate ways and not interfere. I can be in the same room as someone else, and not interfere with their works. I can be in the same room as my wife and collaborate with her on a project, and that is not interference, as both parties agree to work together. Being on the same planet as Cultivation and working with her towards a shared goal interferes with no other Shard, and maintains the separation. So I can see that being part of the logic for how Cultivation and Honor ended up on the same rock without violating the pact. -
Nice catch! Part of my theory that I linked is that the Shin invasion was not for the purpose of taking land, as they are notoriously isolationist. Instead, (And the timeline is not confirmed, so I could be wrong) I think the Shin Invasions were a post-Recreance event the Shin used to capture and remove most of the Shardblades and plates from circulation, as self appointed caretakers of the abandoned weapons. I think they withdrew after they had captured and shipped as many blades back to Shinovar as possible, ending the invasion into lands they did not even want. Other contributors to my theory have pointed out that Alethkar, the historical land of the Knights, is on the opposite side of the world from Shinovar, so not easily accessible for conquest. Which may be part of the reason why the greatest known concentration of blades is with the Alethi. As for Taln's blade, I worry that Odium's forces, or one of the Secret Societies have it.

I tend to agree with @Quantus on this subject. I think if the church, or the Sons of Honor had that many blades, we would have seen something about it by now, as both seem to highly value military might. Link below is a discussion I started on why I think the Shin have the missing blades. Shin have the most Shardblades theory As a further thought, I have been thinking on the shadesmar side-effect of a large concentration of deadeye-blades. We saw that deadeyes make higher spren uncomfortable, for a variety of really good reasons. But what if they also make emotion-spren and natural-phenomena-spren uncomfortable too? Like a dead body would make non-predators wary of entering an area? If I keep pulling that string of thought, it is conceivable that a massive stockpile of dead-blades and dead-plate would be massively uncomfortable to the spren, possibly leading them to avoid that area. And we know that SHinovar seems to be devoid of spren from Rysn's interlude. It would seem to be a valid connection, but I could well be wrong. I would love to read more about your idea that one of Roshar's secret societies has them. Maybe not the church, but a world spanning secret soceity could be a really good candidate.

Can you Kill Someone with Soul Stamps?
Stark replied to Philomath's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I think it would be more along the lines that the object would revert. If you shatter a stamped vase, the shards no longer have a physical connection to the stamp. As the cognitive connection fades, and the shards become distinct as garbage, I think the shards without the stamp would revert to broken pieces of the original vase. The shards with the stamp would remain in the stamped form, provided the stamp was intact. If you break the vase in such a way that the stamp is no longer intact, then the whole thing would revert to garbage shards of the original, unstamped version. That is for sure. But if the stamp is fully intact on one of the fragments? That gets interesting. -
Not just medieval knights. Iron man too.

Seeing as he is now attached to the hip of Dalinar, and Dalinar's personal guard was the Cobalt guard Cobalt Law Cobalt Breaker Cobalt Bound Cobalt Shin Cobalt Smoke Called by Duty - for the FPS Lover, and an accurate description to boot. Champion of Law Canonist of Sky (Canine-ist?) Chaser of Truth Codice Chaotica Counsel of Bond Curio of Shin Chaos Causer Chaos Order Cloven Truth Chaotic Faith This requirement to start with the letter 'C' is killing me. None of my suggestions are great -
A little late, but to be fair, most people might assume that Lopen is 'broken' after talking to him, if the responses people have to conversing with him are any indication. I mean, most people would assume that a guy hugging the ground so it would not get jealous of him flying around is more than a little broken. Just not the same type of broken as others, and not with what is generally considered to be negative emotional association. There are many ways to break, and not all are negative. And we have not even really touched on children. How did both young Shallan and young Tien start to lure Patterns? Children can be broken, of course, but they also tend to be a lot more resilient than adults and make their own realities (which must be fascinating to Cryptics).

I'm honored to be listed as one of the critical minded here. It is one of the best compliments I have received. Sadly, I am not sure I am going to be able to live up to that. I have not read script style writing, or plays, since high school. I will give what you wrote a look when I have a chance, but I am skeptical as to the value or benefit that I will be able provide. I will mostly be trying to earn that massive compliment you have paid me.

This Feruchemical Gold siamese twin question could lead to a Cosmere hack clone army. If you have the twins and separate them, cool. One views them as two unique individuals, and heals to a unique individual. The other views them as one, and heals back what is lost - the cojoined twin. Would they not essentially grow a third person cojoined to the twin who views the two beings as one? And then to escalate it, if the twin who views the cojoined as a part of a whole that views itself as unique, could you not loop this process and essentially grow your own clone army? Really quickly if you have a stockpile of unkeyed goldminds? Preferably unkeyed gold being topped up by a gold compounder? Would that work? Edit: Regarding gravity. We do not feel the affects of velocity, we feel the affects of acceleration. As 'G' is a specific measure of acceleration, 9.8m/s/s on earth, the body would feel that changing. If you up it to 6G, that is enough to knock most people out. I think a stormlight user would be protected from that effect by the light constantly healing them, but after a certain acceleration they would start to see diminished returns for their light used vs. acceleration achieved. Eventually they will hit a point where they are using more light to heal themselves per second than they are using to keep falling. And that is in a straight line, you add turns or fancy maneuvers, and I see it getting less effective. So would they feel it? Yes. Would it effect pregnancy? Probably not, as the baby would be healed with the mother. But I don't think it would be recommended. It would be less dangerous for a pregnant surgebinder to fly than for a pregnant woman to use a roller coaster. This is of course provided the pregnancy is viewed as part of the mother by the mother. If the baby is viewed as separate, then it is an entirely different conversation, and the risks to the baby are magnified.

Hi all. Have a nice short idea for everyone to take apart. Please do not be gentle with it, show me the flaws! What we know: 1) There was a being named Adonalsium, presumably male form in world discussion. He died, was killed - his power split into 16 parts, divided among those who killed him. 2) The Cosmere borrows heavily from Earth religions for imagery, but does tend to have a heavy dose of imagery and symbolism from the Mormon sect of Christianity. I do not know enough about this subset to comment further - but I have read some of the commentary from practioners in this forum that do point out some of the imagery. What we theorize: 1) There is a God beyond Adonalsium. Mostly unknown to all, but there have been hints, and possibly some Cosmere scholars theorizing along the same lines. My thought: What if Adonalsium and the God beyond have a Jesus - God relationship? What if Adonalsium is the son of the God beyond sent into the Cosmere to experience it on behalf of the God beyond? Who was then slain by the inhabitants of the Cosmere? And, if you subscribe to the Iriali being more cosmically aware, and right, that Adonalsium is destined to return? What if Adonalsium, who clearly could die, and therefore by Jasnah's argument is not truly a god, because gods cannot die, but the son of god? Only instead of returning three days post shattering, he is due to return thousands of years later after his power has experienced the universe fully on behalf of the God Beyond? And if this parallel is valid, would there then not be an equivalent to the spear still hidden somewhere in the Cosmere? I have no proof - just a thought that came to me, that I had to write down to see if others agreed, or had thoughts along similar pathways. I'd especially love to hear from those who belong to the Church of LDS could weigh in on the teachings about Jesus and God - is he purely the son of god, or is he god giving himself mortal form to experience his own creation? The views on his resurrection? And how all this could tie into the Cosmere in a situation were the disconnect between man and god was so great that he was only a faint hint of a presence and most of the universe was unaware of his sons existence, but had knowledge of his power?

I'll admit to being concerned and skeptical. Previous TV, movie and game deals have fallen through. The graphic treatment of White Sand was extremely disappointing from an art standpoint. And the Dark One is going to be book, TV show, podcast and graphic novel? So everything but a musical? I really hope it works out. But Brandon's works have not gotten the best non-literature treatment thus far. That is the core of my skepticism.
