  1. Well, I think I just found out where my/StrawMan's Reverser went to. Thanks, Elk, for thieving that from me. And the Ghostbloods killed Joe. Who had a Shardblade. Let's hope they got the Painrial instead. I'm guessing that Spanreed Elk had was yours, DC? It looks to me like he stole it and then died with it. I mention this because my one-cycle Spanreed was stolen from me two nights ago, but it wouldn't be this one that Elk has, since mine would've disappeared, and I already asked Maill if that spanreed counted for the thief win con, and he said yes. So I don't see why he would've stolen another spanreed. This means there's another thief out there.
  2. Okay. My thoughts on the players. Right now, these are the players I think are good: DC Nyali Macen The ones I'm leaning toward being good: Twei Zas Joe Neutral (not enough comments to judge or conflicting reads): Seonid Elk Sheep Alv Burnt Stink Mark Lopen I'm getting a slight bad read on: Yafe - this is mostly gut Elbereth - riding the line between offering advice/giving thoughts about mechanics without making any accusations or giving reads on players Kyne - posted an analysis worthy of good!Kyne, but hasn't really had anything to say at all since then. Not that he's usually really active, but he's usually more active than this, and I don't recall him saying anything about being less active (though if he did, please correct me). Kas - seems like he's got his own agenda when talking about the stuff with me and DC as well as the soulcaster stuff with Elodin and Orlok. I'd have to read through his posts more in-detail, but I got a bad vibe like there was something more going on there. I'd call this gut, usually, but I don't want to give him the impression it's due to his activity levels, since it's not at all. Luna - Her reasoning for voting StrawMan over her suspicion of me reads more like a convenient excuse for an eliminator to get someone killed and have it slip by with little notice, which she notes she couldn't have done had she killed me. There would've been nothing preventing her from being killed next (or vig-killed during the night). Trelagist - said over 36 hours ago that he would be more active from that point on, now that MR13 was over and he could focus on this game fully. Has only made 2 other posts since then, both back to back pertaining to Orlok's deathcry--and those posts were mostly pointless (the first was about how he'd worked on the code for 40 minutes and the second was about how he thought the code was a distraction). He's offered no real insight into his thoughts on the game or the players or anything at all. Usually I'd cut a new player some slack, but he was pretty active (at least behind scenes) in the MR, so I find it interesting that now that the MR is over, he's not really doing anything here. My vote goes on Trelagist. I'd like an explanation for his lack of activity despite saying he would be active.
  3. Action 2: Elerek is building defensive structures around the outskirts of Luthadel as a preventive measure to protect against sieges or the like.
  4. If that's the case, I can quite honestly say I never want to play a game with you again, regardless of your alignment or mine. I know I said I would post my opinions on other players after I got off work, and now I'm off work, but I'm really frustrated right now and don't really want to do anything with the game tonight. I'd prefer to de-tox. I also have some real life things I need to take care of that I'd forgotten about. I'll make one or two posts tomorrow, but that's all I'm going to promise.
  5. I'm currently at work, on my lunch break, and basically only have time to explain some of the things that have been mentioned in the last few hours. I'll be able to post more on my thoughts about certain players when I'm off work. I never threatened him. I was pissed at him, but I never threatened him. What am I gonna threaten him with? It's not like I have a kill role at my disposal like he apparently does. I've no idea why he told you I threatened him, but my PM to him was literally what I told you it was: calling him out on baiting me and explaining that we were both baiting each other. He got all uppity after that by saying that I was blowing it all out of proportion. Yeah. I guess I am. When someone says that they're convinced I'm an eliminator and they have a kill item at their disposal, you bet I'm going to get a little defensive. I don't like dying for stupid reasons. The soulcaster who was killed is not the one I was referring to. You must've missed my comment about being in contact with two soulcasters last night. The person I'd had in mind for that plan was the second on. And yes, I shot it down because I don't like dictator games. I'd apologize for placing more importance on having fun than winning, but I'm actually not sorry at all. I don't play games if I'm not having fun. There's no point. I proposed the plan. I'd asked him if he wanted to help me come up with a plan to find the Ghostbloods. I'd come up with a plan that was a good plan, but I didn't particularly like it because it set one person up with a lot of power and lot of control. In my experience, when that happens, that person takes total control of everybody's actions, going into super-competitive mode and sucking the fun out of the game. Understandably, I wasn't interested in this plan, even though it would totally lead to a win. I wanted to come up with a different plan. Please note that I sent that PM 3 1/2 hours before the end of the cycle. He responded 40 minutes until the end of the cycle with a snide comment about how he'd help me with my plan, "assuming it's even viable." 40 minutes is not long enough to get anything done. And since I didn't really have anyone I could reasonably assume was a Noble to talk to for the last 3 hours, I hadn't been able to come up with anything else. See, I do my best strategizing when I have a sounding board, which I didn't have. So no, I didn't have anything other than the dictator plan, which I shot down right after mentioning. But he was like "a win is a win," as if winning just for the sake of winning is fine if nobody has fun. I don't think DC is a Ghostblood, but his playstyle is irritating the hell out of me. Take that for what you will.
  6. ....Right. Of course. I should've predicted this would happen, but whatever. Yes, I was in contact with Elodin, and I knew he had a Soulcaster. However, Nyali, he was not the Soulcaster I was referring to when I was talking to you. That was someone else. See, I'd suspected Elodin had a Soulcaster on Day 1, due to a couple of his posts--Kas has already mentioned that though. When I contacted him last night, he mentioned that he had a Soulcaster contact, which basically told me that I was right about my guess. He eventually confirmed that he was the Soulcaster, and told me that he had targeted Orlok the night before. I asked him if he'd be willing to use his soulcaster to redirect someone's painrial back onto themselves (without informing him who it was quite yet) and he'd said that he would be, but it was right after that the this person with the painrial contacted me to tell me that they'd worked out another plan with one of their other spanreed contacts. Elodin set up a plan for today to let me know who he'd targeted. I wanted to make sure that it was subtle enough not to give him away, since I knew he'd already indicated he had a soulcaster, and I didn't want to make it even more obvious that he did, just in case the GB's hadn't picked up on it. And that was it. That's basically my entire PM with him. I've no idea why he's saying that I knew he had a Soulcaster Night 1. I didn't. I never told him I did. I told him I'd guessed that he probably did. But it's not something I knew until last night. And as for the thing with DC. As far as I know, that's resolved. We were both trying to bait each other, and because of that, we both ended up looking highly suspicious to the other. Took up a massive portion of the night, but it seemed to me like we figured it out and actually started working together in the last 20 minutes of the night. He can contest that if he thinks differently, but that was my impression of what went on. I don't suspect him anymore, however, because I don't see any reason for him to have done what he did like he did were he a Ghostblood. So take that for what it is. And now I have to get back to work. Don't expect a reply from me for at least 4 hours if not longer. I might have time to reply during my lunch break, if it's absolutely necessary, but I'm not going to promise anything for certain until after the workday is over, which will be about 8-9 hours from now.
  7. Okay, after having gone through the thread, I've jotted down my thoughts on all the players so far. My biggest suspects right now are Sheep and Kas, but I don't feel comfortable voting for either since neither has posted enough to get more than just a little more than a gut read. Plus, my thing with Sheep is that he's around and posting, but not really saying much or contributing a whole lot. But at the same time, he's new, so it's likely he's just getting into the swing of things. Kas hasn't played a game in a while, and I don't really want to vote for him, even if his vote on me felt off. Plus, that would feel too much like an OMGUS. I have a couple slight townreads (yes, yes, I know. I'm using mafia slang. Blame it on the fact that I've just spent the last 48+ hours watching the Championship. You should see my notes. They're riddled with mafia slang. I'm so ashamed), but most of my reads are neutral either because of lack of posting and therefore material to analyze (which I think will be somewhat resolved tonight when I get into a PM with some of these players--like Burnt), or just because people are saying stuff but not really saying stuff (ie, Stink). So if you haven't posted much, please post more. In fact, I'll just list the people who need to post more: Alv, Sheep, Zas, Twei, Macen, Yafe, Mark, Kas, Burnt, Stink, Orlok, Trelagist, Luna, and Silver Dragon (with inactive mentions of Seonid and Elk, but they're excused). One last thing: @Elodin. Elbereth already mentioned that the plan doesn't really work, but let me explain that a little more in-depth. The Ghostbloods are unlikely to lie about if they have an item or not. As in, they're probably not going to say "I have a Pain Knife" if they don't actually have a Pain Knife. No, what they're more likely to do is not mention the fact that they have a Spanreed. Your plan hinges on the thief stealing from people based on their claims, but that's not what we need to actually catch the Ghostbloods in their lies, because the lies aren't claims. They're the opposite. So the plan helps the thief, but it doesn't help the village even remotely. It just gives the Ghostbloods a better place to hide because all they have to do is say an item or two that they have, the thief steals it, gives it back to them, and then they're soft-confirmed. It's a no-lose plan for the Ghostbloods. That said, it's a good start. I can think of some ways to work with it that would make it harder for the Ghostbloods to work around, but I would need a Spy and an Emotion Bracelet-user first. Possibly a Soulcaster too.
  8. I don't feel comfortable voting right now. I just noticed that the turn is over in an hour, and I've spent the last two days keeping up more with the Championship than this game, so my analysis on players is....abysmal. I'll look over things in the next hour and if something sticks out to me, I'll vote, but I'm not going to guarantee anything. I can say that I'm basically done watching the Championship so this will not be an issue in future cycles.
  9. A couple things on this: Long Games are long enough that it's forgivable if someone goes inactive or less-active at some point, so long as they give warning. It's the ones who give no warning that present issues. After all, who can really predict that their schedule for an entire month or two is going to stay clear enough to be involved in a game like this? Real life is unpredictable. It just is. If we were to say "Don't sign up unless you're certain that you can play the entire time and maintain this particular level of activity," and then penalize the players who can't uphold to that, we'd get far less players signing up for games. That's just a fact. That said, it's not encouraged to go inactive for that long. But I don't think Seonid is purely inactive. I would consider him "less active," as he's got other things that are taking up his time, so he can only check the forum occasionally. But come the 4th cycle, he'll be more active and able to contribute regularly. Another thing is that it depends on the game. With this game in particular, this is the last game Maill will be GMing before he leaves on a mission for two years. Maill has only missed playing/GMing 1 game out of the 50+ games we've played here in the last 2 years. There are some players who don't want to miss it, and for good reason. But their schedules right now aren't conducive to a game, but give it a week and those same schedules will be better. For a game that's going to last a month at least, a week of lower activity isn't bad. And if it makes for a grand farewell for Maill, I'm down for it. But those are my views on that. Inactivity or being less active is fine, so long as you have a reason and you give it to the thread along with a time frame of when we can expect you back. Edit:....thanks for the ninja, Kas. Much appreciated. >>
  10. There's nothing stopping the thief from starting with items. The thief in LG5 started with a half-shard, but I don't think it counted toward his win con, because he didn't steal it. I talked to Maill about thief before the game started and I'd gotten the impression stealing was a critical component to their win con. It's not about heiring or having items given to them or getting items from kills. They have to steal it. It's what their role is based on, with the uncertainty about their actions. They only have guesses (well, unless you're an idiot who gets a Reverser publicly and then doesn't pass it ). Also, while the neutral aspect of their role doesn't make them likely to kill, it's still an important part. In LG5, the thief was a Noble, and even in that game he worked with the Ghostbloods a bit. There's literally nothing stopping the thief from playing both sides this time to gather information about items and know what to steal from who. It's in their best interests to do so.
  11. It wasn't pure faction. It was faction within eliminator. MR1 at least started out as pure faction.
  12. I only barely got the chance to PM. Someone gave me a spanreed during the night. I can't activate it until tonight. And yes, I plan to PM everyone, not just Macen. I highly doubt the Ghostbloods will be very forthcoming with the Spanreed they got from Araris and if they have any other Spanreed, that's just less that we can use. We need comms up now. Not 2 cycles from now. And if the Ghostbloods try to kill me tonight....well. I'm willing to take that chance if it means we can get the village up and running. Oh, and for any thieves wanting to steal from me again, good luck. It's a 1 cycle spanreed so go find someone else to rob. kthxbai. Yes, yes, I know. I'm using a one-cycle spanreed to get comms up and running. It's the best I can do right now, unfortunately.
  13. There are ways to balance a secondary kill even with the items gained from killing people... A significantly smaller team is the best way to do that. If they have another kill, they probably only have 4 players, which is an incredibly small team for a 28 player game, but again, with the bonus in items, it wouldn't be that bad. The counter to it on the village side would be a few more protection items than normal (and out of the 4 people killed so far, 2 of them had protection items, so that's looking possible right now), and a couple extra spies/emotion bracelet-users to check other players and see what actions they're using/how many items they have/what items they have. That's not something we have any indication for at this point, but the point is that it is possible for them to have started with an additional kill and that a vigilante Noble killing active players is a little less likely, in my opinion, than Maill making the game more interesting by giving the Ghostbloods an additional kill. I'll see what I can do about that tonight.
  14. I'm not sure if it's Alv doing it (though it could be), but it definitely looks like the Shardblade wielder is taking out inactives. Which I can totally get behind. I'm more wary of whoever has the Grandbow. They're either going pure vigilante or they're a Ghostblood. HS seemed a little sketch to me last turn, but not enough to kill on Night 1. Maybe Night 2. Still, though, that hit doesn't really make sense for a Noble, so I'm actually thinking the Ghostbloods started with the Grandbow. Which is a little worrisome.
  15. What are my thoughts on the thief? That they should use that Reverser well, being a neutral party and all. We should be wary of them, because they are neutral. Depending on who the thief is, they could be more partial to the village or the Ghostbloods, but regardless of who they're partial to, if they sense that the Ghostbloods are losing pretty terribly, and they have information that would even up the scales a bit, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they helped them out. We cannot afford to trust the thief. They do not have our win condition and they can win with either team. And yes, that second sentence was saying that the Reverser I got from StrawMan was stolen last night. I should've predicted that it would be and passed it to someone to keep it out of neutral hands, but I'd forgotten about the thief. Ah well. Hindsight and all that.
  16. At this point, it's up to the user. If I had a soulcaster, I wouldn't use it tonight unless I had a suspicion and I wanted to test that suspicion. But even then, I probably wouldn't use it, because the risks can be pretty great. I mean, if you're soulcasting a random action, you could pull protection off someone who really needs it. You could pull a kill to a valuable villager. You could give someone else an item an Artifabrian creates, or redirect an emotion bracelet-users action to someone useless. There are any number of actions that you could redirect that would tell us all nothing but could be detrimental. If you really want to use a soulcaster, I'd suggest targeting the T1(A) action slot specifically. While the Ghostblood kill doesn't have to be in that slot, any other attack/kill actions do and it could be useful to deflect those. And if you're Heiring someone, you probably shouldn't do it in that particular action slot. Same for if you're a role and you're doing something with your role, just to be on the safe side. But again, if you're trying to redirect the Ghostblood kill, the odds of hitting the person making the kill is extraordinarily slim anyway, but then hitting the right action period too? Much less so. So, yeah. I'd suggest soulcasters withhold actions on those, but it's up to them.
  17. And this is why I avoid getting into war history debates with Orlok.... As for more game-relevant discussion. I'm going to refrain from mentioning suspicions right now, as it's night-time, and I prefer to not draw fire to myself as much as I can (yes, yes, I know. This is me. Pretty sure I draw fire just by breathing, but whatever...). I also agree with Twei about her ideas for the Artifabrians. While the items the Artifabrians create only last a cycle, that's standard for Artifabrians. Sure, we could use them to create kill items, but that just encourages people to go vigilante, and that usually doesn't end well for the village (though if a villager has the Grandbow/Shardblade and they have a valid suspicion, I fully encourage using that item, since that's the whole point of having it, just like any kill role in any game). While it's not terribly helpful for painrials and spanreeds to be single-use from the Artifabrian, it's a lot better than just limiting those to the permanent items. Particularly when we don't know the distribution of those items. For all we know, the Ghostbloods have all the painrials. Knowing Maill, that's a valid possibility. It makes the most sense for the Artifabrians to be using their abilities to support the village better, and right now, that's with comms and protection. And Spies and those with emotion bracelets should be trying to gather information. The more we know about what items are in play and how many items people have, the better we can figure out the distribution and take a guess at what the Ghostbloods could have. Though that will be most applicable tonight, since after tonight, anything spies or emotion bracelet-users find could be contributed to by Artifabrians and therefore not part of Maill's distribution. I don't really know where I was going with that.... Basically, Artifabrians: make painrials and spanreeds and pass them to the people you suspect the least. If you don't want to make either of those, emotion bracelets and alerters would also be rather useful. Probably refrain from Grandbows for the time being, though I suppose if you just want to watch the world burn, we can't really stop you.
  18. Welcome back to Around the Cosmere, Sharders! This week, we’re updating you on Sanderson Elimination, Mistborn: The Inquisition, and the Strategy RPs. If you missed the intro, you can give it a read-through here, since it contains the rules and basics for each section. Without any further ado, let’s jump right in. Sanderson Elimination There’s been a fair bit happening on the elimination forum in the last month. We’ll start off with an update on the games mentioned last month. Long Game 18 was the Kingkiller game set at the University. This game ended when two of the Students Namers killed the last Skindancer in a fury of wind, fire, and bone. And more fire. There were lots of skeletons and one of the Namers went insane. But the Students won and the University is back up and running, so that’s good. Quick Fix 14 took place in Elendel with the Senate. This game lasted a little under 2 weeks and ended in a draw, when one of the players in the jail broke out and killed the last Constable in the octant, resulting in all of the living players being killed by Constables in the other octants and no one winning or losing. It’s the first game we’ve had end in a draw, so that’s interesting. LG19, the twinborn game, is still running, but is highly likely to be over soon. It’s been running for about a month so far, and the Spiked in the game had some bad luck starting off, when a Coinshot killed one of their number on the first night (though they killed the Coinshot at the same time, so I guess that makes things even). As the game is still running, I’ll leave a more in-depth update on the more interesting goings-on for next month, when the game will certainly be over. New Games We’ve had two games start since the last update. Mid-Range 13: Treachery in the Terris Peaks started about a week ago. The setting for the game is pre-Ascension, with a group of Terrismen and women travelling through the peaks with Alendi to reach the Well of Ascension. The eliminators are disloyal Terrismen/women following Kwaan, and trying to stop the group from reaching the Well. All players are Feruchemists and can store any metal they want, with metals causing a variety of effects, and allowing for a different action type when you tap particular metals. Players can be left behind or get stuck in rockslides and cut off from the main group. If you’d like to spectate, you can PM Elbereth or Twelfthrootoftwo to request access to the speculation doc. Long Game 20: Warcamp Enigmas is a rerun of Long Game 5. It started just a few days ago. The setting is on Roshar, and the factions are the Nobles versus the Ghostbloods. There’s also a thief that belongs to neither faction but wants to steal all the items. With a variety of different attack, defense, and information-gathering items as well as roles, the game is quite a fun one. If you’d like to spectate that, PM Mailliw to get a link to the spec doc. Interesting tidbit: Maill has played or GMed almost every SE game since LG1, and this is the last game he’ll be able to GM before he leaves on an LDS mission this summer. He’s also a troll and I’m sure he’s distributed this game in a way to make it epic for both the players and the spectators. Featured Game The Featured Game for this month is Mid-Range 1: The Stormfather and the Nightwatcher - The Riots of Kholinar. Rubix was the GM. MR1 was the first faction game we played on the forum. It took place in Kholinar, with 3 different main factions: the Nobles, the Merchants, and the Darkeyes. Infiltrated amongst all 3 were the Seventeenth Shard, who were spying on two factions each. Highstorms hit every few cycles, causing the thread to be locked, since everyone was stuck indoors. Players could also visit the Nightwatcher, offering prayers to her in hopes that she would grant them what they asked for, in exchange for a trollish curse (if you’ve ever seen Rubix troll, you can imagine how bad these curses could be). Aonar prayed for the ability to PM other players, and he was cursed with not being able to use the letters ERNSTL in his PMs. Gamma Fiend prayed for the a sword that would let him kill with laughter. He was granted the Awakened sword Slaughter (the S is silent) with his curse being a combination of charging the sword with the life of a teammate (he was a Seventeenth Sharder, so he had either his Seventeenth Shard teammates or the Merchants that he could choose from) in order to kill someone else, and he also had to start every sentence in any docs or the thread with an S. So amusing, it was, watching him struggle to start sentences with S’s. Renegade and Ashiok were darkeyes and they were both upset about Aonar being a Seventeenth Sharder and trolling them in their doc. They each decided to take matters into their own hands by praying to the Nightwatcher, despite Renegade telling Ashiok not to do anything. Renegade prayed to turn Aonar into a Darkeyes. Ashiok prayed to have a Shardblade fall from the sky and slice through Aonar’s spine. Both prayers were granted. Aonar became a Darkeyes and was promptly killed by a Shardblade, making Ashiok’s curse that of having just killed a teammate. Renegade’s curse was that he just took Aonar’s place on the Seventeenth Shard (who then went on to win the game, so I’m not sure how much of a curse that was…). Some other highlights from that game were Kasimir absorbing not only a lynch but also 4 kills before finally dying (and taking the aggro award for the game), Featherwriter protecting herself every turn until she decided to pray to the Nightwatcher at just the wrong time so Gamma killed her with Slaughter, and an epic RP battle between Alvron and Featherwriter (she’s an amazing RPer, as I’m sure anyone who’s read her writing knows). All-in-all, it was a great game to watch and Slaughter now lives in infamy, spoken only in hushed whispers and veiled threats. And that’s all for SE this month. Next up we’ve got Moru with MBI. Mistborn: The Inquisition Introduction Hello! I'm Moru, another one of MBI's staffers. Comatose asked me to step in and share another featured thread, house, and character for this month's spotlight. I know Comatose said he was going to shed some light on the thieving crews and skaa rebellion this month, but I'll let him explain those to you when he returns. I'm going to take you on another Great House adVenture this month. Last month we covered house Hasting, and some plots and politics involved. This month, I'll take you to another part of Luthadel for a quick look at another Great House. Featured Thread A thread that has a lot of Great House politicking and intrigue is According to Plan. This thread features nobles from three different Great Houses, but centers on tensions between House Venture and Elariel. In the beginning of the thread, Phyra Venture, one of Venture's Mistborn, goes rogue. She plans to kill Mikhail Elariel, the heir of House Elariel, because he spurned her affection and humiliated her along with Mikhail's cousin Aaron. Phyra is known for her short temper and her overreaction to many situations. Daerra Elariel, who starts off the thread, intimates that Mikhail will die and Phyra would be blamed, whether or not Phyra decided to attack. Daerra has many plans... but Mikhail is in the way. With Mikhail dead, her twin brother Aaron Elariel would be named heir and Daerra would be one step closer to ruling her house. Lord Ellsworth Venture does not want to risk a permanent rivalry and possibly spark an all out House War with House Elariel. Elariel is known for its objectivity and its cultivated neutrality among the nobility. It's hard to make them angry, but it would be even harder to restore a working relationship with them if damaged in this way. As untouchable as Veture seems, it would not be a good move to get on the bad side of a house that has strong neutral ties to all of the rest of the Great Houses. It would make Venture seem like the common enemy to many houses that are already pitted against them. Ellsworth is visited by Camille Deveaux, who is a Mistborn. Ellsworth agrees to give Camille three beads of atium, a small fortune, so that Camille could prevent a House War with Elariel through whatever means necessary. She goes to head Phyra off at the pass, but Phyra has a big head start. While all of this is happening, Magnus Venture, Lord Ellsworth's younger brother and Captain of the Guard, is in charge of the defense of Keep Venture. One of Venture's unfortunate messengers was tasked with bringing the news that Phyra left her room with the intent to hunt down Mikhail Elariel. Magnus' short temper gets the better of him, and the Pewterarm ruins yet another desk in his study. He orders the messenger to bring a new map of troop formations to someone on the keep walls, and also to get him a new desk. He is preparing for the worst, as usual, and goes immediately to Ellsworth for up to date information and then out to the battlements to check to make sure everything is secure, in case of an attack from Elariel. Phyra Venture has enough of a head start to get to Mikhail Elariel and kill him before Camille can find her. When the two Mistborn meet, they fight. The outcome of this struggle has still not been determined on screen. The thread is ongoing, but whoever ends up the victor, the effects will be lasting for the relationships in all houses involved. Featured House: House Venture House Venture is perceived as near untouchable. Our story is set after they acquired the contract with the Steel Ministry for control of mining atium from the Pits of Hathsin (The very same influential contract that they still hold in the books). The current Lord Venture secured that contract, and Venture's vast wealth that came from it. They are at the top of the socioeconomic ladder in Luthadel. Currently, its strongest ally is Deveaux, but that is still a tentative alliance. The future of that alliance depends on Ellsworth striking a deal on a potential marriage between Venture heir, Nevan Venture and the Mistborn, Camille Deveaux. Lord Ellsworth Venture was in his early twenties when he took his father's place as Lord Venture. His older brother was stricken from succession due to his recklessness and eventually left to join the ministry. Ellsworth was made heir, and then Lord Venture shortly after that. Within the next year, Denton Venture, Ellsworth's father, died of an illness. Ellsworth has made very difficult decisions to get the house to where it is. Ellsworth's second son is heir to the title Lord Venture. His first son wished to join the ministry and had no desire to lead Venture when Ellsworth was old enough to retire, while Nevan (the second son) was enthusiastic at the opportunity and took to it much easier than his older brother. Keep Venture's Guard is maintained by Ellsworth's younger brother Magnus. Magnus is a hot-headed, but also a very honorable man. In his youth, he was outed as a Pewterarm in a duel, but has since gone on to win many dueling championships. There is a joke and persistent rumor among the nobles in Luthadel that every Venture is secretly a Pewterarm. There are three members of Venture that are known Pewterarms. All three of them very close to, or in the main line of Venture. Magnus was the first of these to be outed thirty years ago. Followed by his son, Broderick, and the heir, Nevan. Featured Character: Daerra Elariel Interestingly enough, Daerra Elariel, shown in the article image, touches many of the other young nobles lives. Daerra is 23 years old, unwed, and a Seeker. She is played by Comatose. Because her house is neutral with most of the other Great Houses, she is afforded the ability to talk to and make potential alliances and friends with members of Sureau on an equal playing field as she would talk to a member of Venture or Deveaux. These houses are bitter enemies with one another and normally, the social structures in Luthadel would prevent any Sureau to become friends or allies openly with a Venture and vice versa. With the addition of Daerra, a group would be more balanced, and members of those two houses could talk to one another, and perhaps even become friends. In situations like these, Daerra is very good at turning things to her advantage. Every time she and another noble speak, she is calculating how the conversation might help her later. She is very good at picking apart what other nobles say and coming up with a quick response that will not incriminate or point fingers, keeping in line with her House's neutral stance. Daerra is full of plots, plans and schemes, the chief of which seems to be her desire for her twin brother to be heir to the title Lord Elariel. Hidden behind that are her true desires are to rule House Elariel herself, and she seems willing to sacrifice anything necessary to get there. The first step in that grand scheme was to get rid of her cousin Mikhail... or to get someone to do it for her. The next step is still left to be seen. Thanks for letting me take you through some more Great House politics on MBI! Now back to Wilson. Strategy RPs Heirs to the Final Empire Heirs was put on hold for the last month, so it hasn’t progressed at all, but now Turn 3 is in progress (I know, I said it had just started last month, but that was just before the game was put on hiatus). If you’d like to join the game, Generation 8 should be starting early-to-mid May, so either post in this thread or PM Wyrm and he’ll work out all the details with you. Supremacy of Arelon In the last month, another 12 kingdoms in Arelon have fallen or traded hands (some multiple times), and while only 2 more players have been wiped from the game, there’s enough turnover that it shows things are definitely getting interesting. Year 9 is about to start (at the time of writing this), and I’m positive we’re going to start seeing more players wiped from Arelon in the next few (in-game) years as the power solidify and the last few players go head-to-head in a fight to the end. Who will be eliminated next? Who will be the last man standing? Find out next month (or, you know, you can also follow along in the thread to find out while it’s happening. That’s cool too ). And that’s all for this update of Around the Cosmere. Thanks for reading, and join us next week to hear Feather talk more about the Tumblr side of things. Stay classy, Sharders.
