Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
little wilson replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
No. What's in the rules is everything that could be in the game. There are no secrets outside of role distribution and what roles will and won't be included in the game. @The Young Bard That could work, though I don't really want to switch someone out that late in the game. However, with the player numbers being what they are and the inactivity filter being what it is, the game might not last past Cycle 6 anyway, so you might be dead/the game might be over by the time you go inactive, so I'm not really worried. Right now, I really just want to hit at least 16 players, because I have an idea of distribution for at least 16 that would work. If we get less, I can make it work, but I'd prefer not to cut another role, which is what I would have to do with anything less than 16.- 329 replies

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
little wilson replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Important Rules Change The Diagrammists will not have access to a doc. They will have to use PMs to communicate with each other. They will know who all of their teammates are at the start of the game. This was always going to be the case; I just forgot to change those rules from the first run. EDIT: And if you would like a link to the spec doc, post in here before the game starts or send either Stink or me a PM and we'll get you the link. Pinch hitters will not be included in the doc until after the second cycle, so if you want to pinch hit, we can get you on that list as well.- 329 replies

Bright spots, Silver Linings, and the Upside of 2016
little wilson replied to Quiver's topic in General Discussion
I paid off my car and the last of my debt accrued from moving to Utah three years ago. This means that the only debt I have left is $800 of my student loans, so that will be paid off by March at the latest, which makes me insanely happy. I started taking iron supplements to help my iron deficiency and now I don't feel drained all the time. I learned how to manage stress (something I'd never had to learn before because stress usually just bounces off of me). I took back control of my life. I confronted someone who used me for over a year, manipulating me, and I told him exactly how I felt about what he'd done and decided I wasn't going to let him or what happened hold me back anymore. I learned how to stand up for myself, at least a bit. And lastly, I told a guy I like that I liked him, and it didn't end terribly (didn't end with roses and butterflies either, but at least it didn't go poorly, which is how that usually goes for me). -
Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
little wilson replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
You'll still be replaced. None of the powers tell what specific action a specific person did, so there's no reason an action would incriminate you and all the actions are helpful in some way, so there's no reason to not do it because you don't feel it'll be helpful. There's also nothing you can replace it with, so it's not like making an action prevents you from doing something you might prefer to do more. And not everyone will even have powers because this game won't be role madness like the first run was.- 329 replies

@Bugsy6912, if you want to be on the pinch hitter list, you might be able to replace someone at the end of the second cycle (which will be near the end of your time in Hawaii), if someone goes inactive. Let me know.- 329 replies

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
little wilson replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The players choose. If they have a PM, they can use the PM, but they don't get a PM. Basically, by the end of the cycle, if they're not on the same person, we'll flip a coin to see whose vote takes precedence and the other will be changed. If one player votes and the other doesn't, the vote will take precedence.- 329 replies

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
little wilson replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Q: With the Bondsmith's Adhesion power, do those people have to decide who to vote for together in the thread or PM, or does the Bondsmith's get to choose who they vote for? A: The players choose. If they have a PM, they can use the PM, but they don't get a PM. Basically, by the end of the cycle, if they're not on the same person, we'll flip a coin to see whose vote takes precedence and the other will be changed. If one player votes and the other doesn't, the vote will take precedence. Q: The Diagrammists won't have a separate group PM for themselves, right? They will have to manage via the PMs created by the people "in command" and Bondsmith and Runners? A: Correct. Q: Will there be secret roles? A: No. What's in the rules is everything that could be in the game. There are no secrets outside of role distribution and what roles will and won't be included in the game.- 329 replies

Setting You’ve followed Dalinar and his army to the lost city of Urithiru. With Alethi and other peoples arriving more and more every day, the city is becoming a rather bustling place, which is perfect for an agent such as yourself. What better way to subtly manipulate the decisions--especially with the Desolation nigh at hand? Unfortunately for you, you’re not the only one trying to control what’s going on. You’ve learned that there is another group working against your cause, and there are even rumors of a third group, undermining the other two. The Sons of Honour and the Ghostbloods have never gotten along, and now is no different. However, as people start disappearing from the city, you fear you might have to work together to solve the problem. Some of the disappearances are people you’ve never met and you think they might work for the other side, but others are people you know. Maybe the rumors are true. Maybe someone is trying to remove the other players in this politically manipulative game. Can you find them before they kill you too? Teams There are three teams, spread between two factions. The members of each faction will not be publicly announced in the thread, but you will have an idea of who is on your team (more on that in a bit). Sons of Honour You’re a devout Vorin, and if you could go back to the times of old and bring the Hierocracy back, you would. In fact, you’re convinced that all you need to do is find the Voidbringers, because once they return, the Heralds will be back. And how can anyone deny Vorin dominance when their very gods are saving the people from the Desolation? Ghostbloods You’re a Ghostblood. Fascinated with the Desolations and the Parshendi, you’re not interested in causing another Desolation, and you certainly aren’t interested in another Hierocracy. You’d like nothing better than to stop the Everstorm and the Desolation from taking place, and you hope by being in Urithiru, you can have some effect in keeping it at bay. Diagrammists You believe in the Diagram written by King Taravangian. Devoted to bringing stability to Roshar, you’ve noticed that these two other groups, the Ghostbloods and the Sons of Honour, only seek to destabilize the political structures, making them easier to bend to their will. To stop them, you and a number of other Diagrammists have infiltrated the Ghostblood and Sons of Honour ranks, and you are intent to end their manipulations in Urithiru once and for all. You have one group kill per cycle, but you do not have access to a Google doc to collaborate, and must rely on PM communication. The Roles To further your faction’s cause, members of your factions have abilities that will help you perform your tasks. Roles will be evenly distributed between the factions, and then randomly distributed among faction members (including Diagrammists). Roles are not revealed upon death. Not all members will have a role. Those who have no role are Regulars. Knight Radiants Amazingly, some of you have shown surgebinding potential and are well on your way to becoming Knight Radiants. With causes such as the ones you’re fighting for, you don’t expect to have any Radiants from Orders like the Windrunners, who rely far too much on honour, or the Skybreakers, who are driven by justice, which is something you tend to bend if it suits your purposes. However, not all the Orders are stuffy, and some of them are even pretty useful to your faction. Both factions will have an equal number of Knight Radiants in their ranks. This distribution will be random. Note: there is only one Bondsmith in the game, regardless of how many Radiants are included. Bondsmith - You’re all about uniting people under a common cause, and you believe your faction’s goals are the only way to bring about true unity in these trying times. You have access to the surges of Tension and Adhesion, but you can only use one per cycle. Tension - Each cycle, you can create a PM between any two players (can self target). Send in your request to the GM, who will set it up for you at the end of the cycle (accounting for any redirection and/or other blocking abilities). This PM can continue for as long as both participants are alive. Adhesion - Uniting people is what you do. Nothing brings you more joy than bringing two people together--particularly if those two people used to be enemies. You can choose two people each cycle, and on the following cycle, those two people must ultimately vote identically. The GM will PM the lucky two to tell them of this new, unbreakable (at least for a day) friendship. Edgedancer - You don’t care much for your faction's grand plans, but you figure that if you’re not there, the little details will get overlooked. Plus, you like putting your abilities to good use. You have access to the surges of Friction and Progression, but you can only use one per cycle. Progression - With the power of Regrowth, you like saving things, whether it’s making a nearly dead plant grow or healing an injured person. You can protect any player from one kill attempt each cycle. However, you cannot save yourself. Friction - You’re so fast, you can sneak into someone’s private rooms, read all their messages, and get out before being seen. You can spy on all outgoing PM’s from one player per cycle. The recipient of the messages is not included. Lightweaver - A true artist, you’re less concerned about who wins and more concerned that such an historic time is documented. You’re still choosing to help out your faction, though, because what better way to make sure things stay interesting? You have access to the surges of Illumination and Transformation, but you can only use one per cycle. Illumination - Each cycle, you can redirect one random action from your target to a different target. Transformation - You can change a vote (including no vote) to another player. Elsecaller - Some people might wonder why an Elsecaller, one of the more benevolent orders, is caught up in such schemes, but kindness is all based on perception, right? You believe your faction’s cause is what’s best for everyone, and you’ll do all you can to help people based on that belief. You have access to the surges of Transformation and Transportation, but you can only use one per cycle. Transformation - You can target a dead player, changing their appearance (role) for the following two cycles. Transportation - This action prevents any action from other players that targets you, no matter the action, from affecting you for a whole cycle. Lynches will still kill you. Other Professions Surgeon - You studied medicine in Kharbranth itself, learning at the best hospitals in the world. Your skills are second to none (although there are a few who are equally as good as you are). You can protect any player from one kill attempt per cycle, but you cannot protect yourself. Runner - Trained by one of the fastest messengers alive, you take pride in your speed of delivery. You’re among the fastest in Urithiru, making you a hot commodity. Each cycle, you can create a PM with two players (can self target). Send in your request to the GM, who will set it up for you at the end of the cycle (accounting for any redirection and/or other blocking abilities). This PM can continue for as long as both participants are alive. Artifabrian - Although ardents are the only people allowed to use Soulcasting, it would, to say the very least, be rather naive to expect that rule to be strictly obeyed. As an artifabrian, you have engineered and experimented with a variety of fabrials in order to improve on your designs, some of which push the very boundaries of what is thought possible. Every cycle, you may pick a target. One random action that would affect the target comes to you instead. Ardent - As a member of the ardentia, you are a member of a key group in Alethi society. Being an ardent has its contradictions: while you are free from the customs and constraints governing each gender, your life is not your own; you are considered the property of a lighteyes, and are not permitted to own anything. More importantly, you have exclusive access to knowledge of Soulcasting and fabrials. Using this, you may change a vote (including no vote) to another player (or no one) each cycle. Cook - You learned your impressive culinary skills among the Horneaters, and you can cook a meal like these lowlanders haven’t ever tasted before. You know how to mask the most potent flavors in a dish, and occasionally, you’ve been known to use that skill for less-than-pleasant purposes. You’ve racked up quite the body count with some of your culinary surprises. Each cycle, you can attempt to kill any player. Veristitalian Scholar - For you, the past is never dead; it takes a clever mind to sift through the detritus to reconstruct history objectively--as things truly happened. Where historians seek to paint themselves in the most flattering light, you see yourself as a dispassionate seeker of the truth: for you know that in the past lies the answers to the future. Each cycle, you can research one of the dead to discover role. Explorer - You’ve been recruited by Dalinar to map out Urithiru. Spending your nights in the uninhabited regions of the lost city, you don’t see much other than your maps, and no one sees you either, until you surface in the morning. Every other cycle, you can prevent any and all actions targeting you, including lynches, from affecting you. Assassin - You’re a master assassin, and you have many skills at your disposal. You’re invisible when you want to be, you have a knack for learning the information you need to get into inaccessible places, and you see things others tend to miss. Unfortunately for you, your assassin services aren’t needed as much here in Urithiru, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use your other skills. You can watch a player any cycle, learning the identity of one random player who targeted them (regardless of whether the action succeeded or not) The Positions Every well-established group has a command structure. The Sons of Honour and Ghostbloods are no different. While not every member knows who all the others are, each one knows someone, and a few have even more knowledge. Every cycle, a person in command can make one PM with any member below them in the command chain. This person does not have to be directly below them, and these PMs can be created at any point in the cycle. Positions are assigned randomly, with no distinction between loyal members of the faction and the Diagrammists. Thaidakar (Ghostbloods) and Restares (Sons of Honour) - You are the leader of your group. You know the identity of every member and the position they hold within. Commander - You report directly to your leader. As such, you know his identity. You also know the identities of the people who report to you. This is only a fraction of the members in the group though, as there are multiple Commanders. Captain - Reporting to the Commander, you know his identity but haven’t a clue who the leader is. That’s okay, though. You have enough responsibility as it is. You know the identities of a fraction of the Regular members. Private - You’re just a regular member of the group, but that doesn’t mean you don’t get to have fun. You’re just as important as the others, except that you don’t quite know who’s on your side. You only know the identity of your Captain. Win Conditions Primary Win Condition Sons of Honour and Ghostbloods: Kill the Diagrammists Diagrammists: Kill everyone else. Secondary Win Condition Sons of Honour or Ghostbloods need to kill the other faction’s KRs. The faction with the most KR’s alive if/when all Diagrammists are dead wins. The other loses. If both factions have equal numbers of Radiants alive or all Radiants are dead, they tie and win together. Alternate Win Condition If an equal number of members from all three teams (Sons of Honour, Ghostbloods, Diagrammists) is alive at any point in the game and the Bondsmith is still alive, the remaining players win together, united in one cause by the Bondsmith. Order of Actions Transportation/Exploration Illumination/Artifabrian/Assassin Progression/Surgeon/Tension/Runner/Elsecaller Transformation/Scholar Lightweaver Transformation/Ardent/Friction/Adhesion Kills/Lynch GM Notes GMs: Wilson and STINK Impartial Moderator: Alvron Player Cap This game will have a player cap, to be chosen by the GMs after signups are closed, depending on the how many players sign up. That cap will be somewhere between 20-25 players. However, more players can sign up. We will use an RNG to decide who plays the game out of those who sign up, and those not chosen will go onto the Pinch Hitter list. Inactivity Filter This game will also have an inactivity filter. Any player who does not post, PM (if they can) and submit an action (if they can) in the first two cycles of the game will be replaced by someone on the Pinch Hitter list. After the first two cycles, any player who doesn’t post, PM, or submit an action for two cycles will be killed. Please note that this means you must do all three, if you are able, to be considered active in the first two cycles of the game. After the first two cycles, you only have to do one of the three to be considered active and not killed. If you must go inactive for a short time, please let the GMs and the thread know when you will be going inactive and when you will return. This period of inactivity cannot go beyond three cycles. If it goes beyond two, you will not be killed by the filter (though you could be killed by the lynch or another kill). If you do not return on the date/cycle specified, you will be killed. Rollover Rollovers will be at 12:30 PM MST/7:30 PM GMT. Signups will close at 11:30 AM MST/6:30 PM GMT on Monday, 2 January, so we don't have to worry about rollovers are New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. The game will start an hour later. PMs will go out during that hour. Player List Quick Links

I'm not referring to your claim during the day. I'm referring to your claim earlier in the game, when you said Len wasn't evil. Between that day and when Len came forward to say that was a gambit to pull a kill toward you, there were two nights where I don't see why you weren't killed when you had basically said that you had a scan ability.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
little wilson replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Naw, I won't use the mixed metals vial on you. Out of the three, you're the one I'm least suspicious of, because I know you have a newborn and you had LG29. Hm. One thing I just noticed is that Ecth and JUQ have been offline since before the vote on Arin started. This doesn't mean they couldn't be evil, but it does mean they couldn't have sent in the vote manip order. They could've just been keeping up on the game via the elim doc and knew that the thread was dead and they didn't have to get on and vote because their team could use vote manip to save Arin. This means that the person who placed that order had to've been someone who was aware of the closeness of the lynch and online to place the order via PMs. Me, Araris, Unodus, Arin, Seonid, El, Nyali, and Orlok were the only people who were online during that timeframe. I think we can safely cross off me, Araris, and Unodus from that list, since any of the three of us could've just not voted. Plus, Araris was who they chose to tie it up with. Unodus or I could've just not voted, and vote manip'd the other so that Arin was saved and Araris died. Well, not really me. But Unodus could've, certainly. I'm going to cross off Seonid and....El, too, since they've had information throughout the game plus, it looks to me like the Traitors are trying to clear through the people I trust because they think doing that will remove my protection. It might. It might not. Guess you'll just have to see, won't you, Traitors? Because of this, I suspect Seonid or El will die tonight, unless they decide to try to attack me again. Or, they'll go for someone completely random because I've just called their next move. I guess we'll see. Anyway. Nyali, Arin and Orlok. The only way I'd believe Nyali is a Traitor is if she was one of the later converts, because her frustration over the Ooklas struck me as very genuine, and I think Hael or one of the other Traitors would've likely made a list in the doc for all the Ooklas so no one got confused. So Arin or Orlok. If Arin, that means he lied about the brass vial (because brass only negates votes. It doesn't move them), or if he didn't, that he also has a zinc vial that he could use, and he omitted that information because he wanted to do that instead of try to prove his innocence. Which makes me think that he couldn't prove his innocence, because he's not innocent. And I also don't think he used Zinc to vote manip that, but that he used a vote manip role or an item. Regardless, if Arin vote manip'd, he can't perform an action tonight, because you can only do one action per cycle. Which means one of the other three will have to make the kill. Considering how many inactives there are right now, I'm going to bet that at least one of them is a Traitor (I sure hope one is, because if not, we're basically screwed). So that leaves 1-2 Traitors left who can make the kill. If we can force everyone to be accountable for their actions tonight (or as many as possible), we should be able to narrow down on who makes the kill.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill

You've actually been active, so no worries about that, Araris. @Seonid @JUQ @Ookthelion III You all posted during the day, but none of you voted. I'm not gonna lie, I'm suspicious of all three of you now. Seonid could easily be playing me, and he didn't know for certain that I would be following Hael the night I followed him. I just said that I might follow Hael, and I never confirmed that. They may have decided that it was worth the risk if it got me trusting Seonid. I'm curious why JUQ is still alive, after having claimed a scan role. Plus, when he told me his scan on Arin failed, he said that he didn't think that meant Arin was evil because the Traitors would have a block that made it look like the person was good. If he was thinking the eliminators might have an ability like that, why did he trust me and Jondesu so much? And Ecth has just been acting suspiciously all game. I'm particularly interested in his 180 turn after I followed Hael. After condemning me for multiple cycles and only seeing how I could be evil, he takes a scan that I could've easily been lying about as proof of my innocence? I call B.S. For those who didn't post at all. I know some of you were active on the forums. Why didn't you contribute even a little bit? Active right now: @Nyali Active during the day: @Elbereth, @OrlokTsubodai Wonko and Chaos are now on their cruise, so they won't be active. @Ookla The Russian (Mark) hasn't been active since near the end of Day 7. @Clanky hasn't been active since about Night 6. @jefrywlfersn was last active during Day 6. And @polkinghornbd, @Paranoid King and @Nathanvanduij were last active before that. Do you know what will happen if Wyrm decides to GM-smite all the inactives? Why do you sign up if you don't play? If you don't post? What's the point?- 980 replies

Okay, I can kind of understand why Leia would be there with the explanation that it looks worse on the Empire to restrain a diplomat. However, I'm sure there's some sort of proof that the Tantive IV had been at Scarif, and all the Empire would have to do is prove that, and then their reasons for chasing down a ship involved in a rebel attack explain themselves. They don't even have to mention the Death Star plans at all (and I'm positive they'd be able to find some way to blame the rebellion for what happened to the Scarif base). And while I agree that it's in character for Leia to throw herself into a war like that, she had another mission and I don't think it's in character for her to delay that mission. Even if she knew about the Scarif mission and the rebellion getting the plans, there would be no reason for her to assume that practically the entire rebellion can't handle Scarif and getting those plans out, but that she, someone who is not a fighter pilot, would have an effect (when they had no reason to assume Vader or the Death Star would show up to Scarif and almost foil everything). If anything, her mission would become more important with that knowledge and more necessary to complete as soon as possible, because with Obi-Wan's help and the plans they might finally be able to take the Empire down. And we know she's fine splitting off from the main alliance to do a smaller, but very important mission: look no further than the forest moon of Endor. I view her mission to get Obi-Wan like that. The rebellion tells her they're going to take care of this and they need her to go get Obi-Wan. So she does it. She doesn't throw herself into the battle. She's needed elsewhere. She has a mission to complete. That said, she absolutely is gutsy enough to look Vader in the eye when he catches up to them, telling her that it's a rebel ship, that 'no, this is totally a diplomatic vessel, dude; there ain't no rebels here!' even though she probably knows he was on the command ship, that he single-handedly cleared a path to her ship, and watched it leave. So if she were going to be at the battle, it's all in character for her. But I don't think she ever would've been in the battle in the first place. She should've been on her way to Tatooine.

His scans are in the order he did them, from first to last because I know his last few scans have gone me, Mark and then Straw (though I told him last night not to scan Straw and instead to scan one of Nyali, Orlok or Bugsy, assuming that another Arin scan would fail). I'm going to officially vote on Arin. Now that I know what night he was scanned, that scan happened before the Assassin/Arinian lynch. I had El ask Arin what he's been doing each night and he said he's been exploring. I highly doubt this, because I see no reason why anyone other than himself would smoke or otherwise shield him from a scan at that point in time if he's good. But if he's evil, then a shield makes complete sense.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill

I rather think the Lifeless was more flavor. If more of those kills were done by Traitors, it would be from kill items they've found while exploring. But the thing is, if the Traitors had more kill items, you'd think they'd kill people like me. Not someone like Bugsy or Straw, who has accrued suspicion and could be killed. No, Bugsy and Straw look more like vigilantes who thought they had a Traitor so they killed them. I suppose a Traitor could be to blame for one of those kills, but if that's the case, I would think it would be Straw's killer and they're trying to get on my good side by killing the person I professed to suspect the most in the thread during the day. But I could just as easily see a village vigilante reading my points about Straw and thinking that warranted a kill on him. Thing is, Straw contacted me last night and roleclaimed Coinshot, and my suspicion of him lessened greatly after that. But I didn't tell anyone what he'd told me. He also said he hadn't been able to find any Steel since becoming a Coinshot, so I know that he wasn't to blame for any of the kills either.- 980 replies

I'm going to guess that Aonar was the Traitor kill, with Bugsy and Straw being vigilante kills. Right now, I would like to hear from @Arinian @OrlokTsubodai @Elbereth @Clanky @Ookla The Russian (Mark) and @Paranoid King. These are the lurkers/inactives who at least have a chance of getting more active, now that Wonko and Chaos are on their cruise. I've included El because she hasn't been talking as much lately, though that's partly because of college applications and stuff. Right now, we've got the Heart, there are 19 players alive (3 completely inactive and won't be returning) and 4 Traitors left. If one of those inactives isn't a Traitor, it's 4 to 12 right now. Those numbers don't seem terrible, and yet if we keep killing ourselves like we just did last night (none of those kills were me, by the way), we're not going to have much of a chance. I'm tempted to vote for Arin. I doubt the Traitors didn't take advantage of the DA lynch last cycle, so I'm betting at least one voted for him. Out of all the votes on DA, Arin's is the one I'm most suspicious of.- 980 replies

I thoroughly enjoyed it, though I had a similar issue with not knowing anyone's name outside of Jyn and Cassian (and barely even Cassian for that matter). I both liked that everyone died (it fit) and was really sad that everyone died because there were some really cool characters (particularly Donnie Yen's character. He was amazing and fantastic and I loved him). Jedha was really cool, and I loved the blowing it up sequence, and in particular everyone on the Death Star's reaction to it. They were all just dead silent, and I can't help but think that some of them might've been just a little horrified at the massive power display that was only a tiny portion of the Death Star's full potential. That said, I had a couple of plot issues. The first has already been mentioned: C3P0 and R2's cameo. I feel like this is a pretty major plot hole when you think about it. How does A New Hope happen if R2 and 3P0 didn't go with the rebels and therefore couldn't be on Leia's ship? What, did the rebels suddenly acquire Star Trek technology and they can beam droids across vast distances? The writers snuck in that cameo just to sneak it in for fun, but it completely messes everything up. Because if those droids aren't there (which they weren't), the plans couldn't have gotten to Tatooine (since they were looking for life signs in the escape pods from the ship and would've blown up any escape pod with life signs), so Luke would've stayed at the farm and never run into Obi-Wan, Leia would've died on the Death Star, the Death Star would've blown up the rebel base at Yavin, and the Empire would've won. All because of a pointless cameo. Brilliant. Second, Leia is a diplomat. Why in the world did they send her into a war zone where she could've gotten killed?! And why in the world didn't they have her leave when all the other rebel ships were trying to get the heck out of there? No, they have her stick around for an absurdly long time attached to the disabled command ship, barely escaping before Vader gets there. Right. And then they try to fool Vader when he catches up to them, saying that they're just a diplomat vessel, when they were just in a freaking war zone. Because that makes a lot of sense. I did like that it tied straight into A New Hope, but I wish they had done it in a way that at least made a bit of sense. Because this doesn't. You don't send a politician to a war zone where they can die. But if you're going to send a politician to a war zone, you're definitely not going to have them stick around when a Star Destroyer appears and then a Sith lord is heading over to board the vessel and kill everything in his path. I don't know what would've worked better (though somehow sending a transmission of the plans to Leia's ship that's away from the war zone would've been considerably more believable), but what they went with was definitely not the right path to take.

Ah. That will help too. Can the Elsecaller scan the dead? And right. Voidbringer redirects Skybreaker to themselves and so long as the Traitor kill also hits the Skybreaker, it doesn't matter if the Windrunner protects. Skybreaker is still dead. And if the Windrunner reveals, their protect is gone. That could definitely work. Especially with not knowing which roles are dead or even in the game. And I think the vig role is fine. Village kill works. Though it would be interesting if the Skybreaker worked like the Truthwatcher, with the village alignment being the vig and the eliminator alignment being the Jailor.

Two comments I want to make. One on safe roles and the other on village alignment detectors. First, safe roles can be very dangerous. The few times they've shown up in these games, they've been abused about 90% of the time. It's not so bad when safe roles are really hard to verify, but when they're easy to verify (like, a kill ability particularly), it makes it a lot easier to break the game. Limited PMs, evil redirects, and action shields will mitigate it, but not as much as you might think. For example, what if a Skybreaker reveals in the thread? The unknown Windrunner then protects the Skybreaker, which means the Traitors can't kill the Skybreaker because they can't double tap, and they don't know who the Windrunner is, so they can't redirect them. The only way they'd even have a chance in that scenario is if they had both a Lightweaver and a Voidbringer, and both roles were alive and weren't suspicious (something that's really hard to guarantee, regardless of who has those roles). But tt's generally inadvisable anyway to balance a team on a very specific role in order for the team to have a hope, because if something happens to that role (like inactivity or death), the rest of the team is left with nothing to do to save themselves. For example, one evil team I was on, our ability to win was almost purely based on one specific role, but that role died early. I also died early. Most of the rest of the team was inactive (and didn't have power roles anyway). The one active member of the team was an alignment scanner, which couldn't exactly do much. She gave it a good go, but the team was doomed when that one power role died. It just took a while for that death to be complete. A similar thing will happen to any team that's built around one role if that role dies early or is inactive. Second, village alignment detectors are usually best when coupled with some sort of alignment shielding role, because a halfway decent alignment scanner can break a game if the team doesn't have anything to protect themselves from the scanner. And a redirect doesn't count as protecting, because that requires the redirect to know exactly who has the scanning ability rather than just protecting the members of their team. And the first is significantly harder to count on (and it also relies on the redirect being alive, active, and not tied up with fighting off a Mayor). Add to that a village Elsecaller, with three roles in the game that, should the Elsecaller scan those roles, might as well make them an alignment scanner as well... Note that I don't think the Elsecaller is inherently a problem. It's just that the Elsecaller compounds the other problems. Remove the other problems, and the Elsecaller will be fine. Outside of those issues, it looks great. But those could cause some problems with the way they interact with some of the other roles.

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill

Aonar, Seonid, and Doc were the only people who knew that. El knew I had Tin and that I distrusted Hael, so she probably could've worked it out if she'd wanted to. Aonar told me he was going to claim Hemalurgist to DA to see what DA would do. I thought it was risky, but if it's what he wanted to do, then okay. The last WGG done in the games was suggested by me but done by Burnt. The WGG before that was also suggested by me, and while I performed the attack, Cessie is the one who did the gambit (LG2). Yes, I am fond of WGGC's, but I'm also fond of being strategic and a WGG at that point in time in this game on me would not have been strategic. Straw. DA. I've decided I'm tired of trying to work out what you're doing and would rather the info from the lynch tell us. Edit: And as for removing the item from the game, if he's telling the truth, he said it'll move to another villager upon his death. If he'd lying, it can't kill the house anyway because it's probably an omen. Coincidentally, this book he claims to have he found the same night Aonar found the book omen that sounds almost identical to what DA has. And a Hemalurgist killing the house? When the Hemalurgist is likely a Traitor? There are too many inconsistencies with DA's story.- 980 replies

The thing is, DA, you were pushing pretty hard for the lynch to end and Hael to be saved. You conflated two very different situations (the Dani lynch vs the Hael lynch) and acted like they were the exact same when they weren't. I already explained that the evidence against Dani was circumstantial and that there was actual evidence against Hael. Let me explain what I mean by that. Dani went aggressively defensive right off the bat and accused me of being behind the attack on myself. If she had instead opened with the fact that someone had told her I was the Mistborn (and who had told her that) before she PMed me and worked to figure out what happened, attempting to prove her innocence that way, she might not've been lynched. Because when it comes to circumstantial evidence, all you have to do is prove that it doesn't work with you. Or that that same evidence can also be applied to others and then you cast reasonable doubt on your guilt and if there's enough reasonable doubt, you'll survive. Hael tried to do the same thing, only his problem was that there was actual evidence against him so he had to make it look like I was the one trying to get him killed. Now, had he been going toe-to-toe with a person who was less willing to put everything on the line, he probably would've been able to survive the day. I don't think he'd survive the night, but he could've at least survived the day. And this is where the other thing with your comments during the day come in: what happened last cycle has nothing to do with my veteran status or even me. Anyone can do what I did. The problem is that few people are willing to. When you accused Nathan of being an eliminator, and everyone focused on you and started asking questions, you backed down and got wishy-washy, saying that maybe he wasn't an eliminator, but he could be because any inactive could be. Well, that's obvious. Anyone could get converted so anyone could be a Traitor, but why Nathan? No one followed you and you accrued suspicion because you made an accusation with no reasoning or evidence or virtually anything (that couldn't also be applied to literally every other player in the game) and you didn't stick to it. I countered Hael's defenses, and when he tried to turn things around to make me look suspicious instead (likely in hopes that enough people would get paranoid about me and remove their votes on him or vote for me, and his team could then maybe use vote manip to get me killed instead of Hael), I put my life on the line. He was trying to get people to worry about me, so I made it so they didn't have to worry about me right then. They could wait for the night and decide what to do with me then. I laid it all out and tied my life to his. Anyone can do that same thing. But not many people do, because it can be a little scary, even though it's just a game. Had Hael been good (and I was worried that he was, there at the end), I really would've killed myself last night. When I laid my life on the line like I did, I meant it. Every word. If you want people to follow you, you need to be willing to do things that give people a reason to follow you. Like being honest, assertive and just generally sticking to what you say. If you believe someone's evil, tell us why you believe that. Don't back down once things get remotely confrontational. No one is going to follow you like a lamb just because you say something, and honestly it wouldn't be fun if they did. I don't want people following me just because I'm me, and they generally don't. I like differing opinions and ideas. It's not fun when everyone just goes "Ok, Wilson has spoken so let's do everything she says because she must be right!" No. I'm not. Ask Len. Ask Dani. I make mistakes, and I shouldn't be followed blindly. But people listen to me because what I say generally makes sense, and people work with me because that makes it easier to keep an eye on me. The "followers" I have aren't followers. They're people who are willing to trust me because I've proven myself to them. And it wasn't easy. But it's something every player has to do, veteran or not.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
little wilson replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Doc was the "thief". Snow was able to bind items to him. It wasn't just metal items he could steal. That just happened to be what he stole because of fluke. I'm actually more suspicious of the people who completely abstained from talking at all in the thread last cycle. People like @Arinian and @Straw who were online and had usually at least posted once in almost all cycles previous to the Hael lynch (particularly day cycles) and yet said virtually nothing in the thread. Really? Out of the two of them, I am by far more suspicious of Straw. Here is my evidence against Straw, briefly: Pre Night 2, Straw was active in the game. He was voting and giving reasons for his votes, and he was trying to encourage activity in others who were being less active/not on the forum. But once Day 3 began, his behavior shifted. Two Omens were found on Night 2. I believe one of those Omens converted Straw. Day 3 was the Assassin lynch. Straw placed the fourth vote of that turn and the second vote on Assassin. The other votes were on Ecth and Len (who were voting for each other). To me, this looks like Straw wanted someone to die, so instead of placing a vote on someone else, he voted for one of those already voted for since it would mean that he was pushing into lynch territory. His reasoning was a "gut read". He said nothing else for the rest of the day. On Night 3, when Assassin was found innocent, Straw's reaction was "crud". That's all. Nothing else. Then we have an interesting thing happen: Hael mentions Straw, wanting Straw to explain his vote on Assassin because everyone else had reasons but Straw didn't. I think Hael noticed that some people were a little suspicious of Straw, and to stop that train before it gained power, Hael helped his teammate out by giving him a way to explain himself there. Which Straw did. The next time Straw posted in the thread was when DA made his claim about Nathan. Straw threw out the idea that DA seemed to be trying to soft-clear himself by throwing a teammate under the bus. If Nathan is evil, I would bet that DA isn't. Now, I'm personally torn about DA at this point in time. I'm going back and forth about him, because I'm skeptical that there's a village hemalurgist, and his book sounds an awful lot like the last omen that was found. Like, really. But the way Straw jumped onto that makes me think that DA might just be good, and Straw was hoping that if Nathan got lynched or killed and was found to be evil, we'd assume that DA must be evil as well and had been trying to soft-clear himself, so we'd lynch/kill DA next, helping the Traitors out by killing one of our one. It's always nice for team evil when you can tie a villager to a Traitor and incriminate the villager if the Traitor dies. Then Straw went silent again. The next time he popped up was the Dani lynch. He placed the third vote on Dani, after myself and Seonid. I'd like to note that I haven't talked to Straw at all in PMs. I also haven't talked to him in the thread. Everyone who voted on Dani that cycle either did it because they knew personally what happened there because they were one of my confidantes, or they had expressed prior suspicion of her/she had done something suspicious in a PM with them. Not so with Straw. It's like he jumped on it just to jump on it. Not dissimilar to the Assassin lynch, in fact. It's like he wanted the death of a villager, and this was an easy one, so he jumped for it. But then a bit later, out of a desire to be "cautious" he said that maybe I could be pulling a WGG with that attack (something that Dani had already suggested before Straw voted on me, and he ignored that completely when he voted on her. Never made the least bit of a mention to being uncertain about what I was saying). It's almost like his team urged him to express hesitation because everyone else was. So he could blend in better. And this brings me to the Hael lynch. Straw had something to say about every major discussion point in previous cycles. He was active on the forum elsewhere and I would be willing to bet he knew exactly what was going on in the thread. But he said nothing about my scan or Hael's defenses. He just stayed out of it completely. It's like they didn't want to tie any of their team to Hael. So Straw just never posted. And he still hasn't. Throughout this entire game, he's always posted at least once per cycle. But not last cycle. He hasn't said anything in the thread for 10 days. Yet you can tell that he's active on the forums. You can tell that he's paying attention to SE: he just joined Seonid's game. Yet he's not saying anything. Care to break the silence, Straw? And you, Arin? You also didn't say anything at all during the Hael lynch. Why is that? What are your thoughts right now? Suspicions?- 980 replies
