  1. Wrap-Up: United in a Single Cause STINK just got back from work and had a bajillion messages from Wilson, mostly along the lines of 'STINK where's the write-up’ or 'STINK where's the stink’, because apparently Wilson has lost her fingers and can no longer draw. RIP Fingers. Anyway, as to the actual state of the game, Joe had managed to find a speakerphone that could be broadcasted through the whole of Urithiru and was constantly saying 'Bondsmith4Life’, which was a great slogan cause there were 4 Diagrammists. Aman was in the corner with a pen and paper, writing actual RP which everyone should do btw. Unfortunately, his RP was so good that everyone got jealous and decided that this guy needed to go, preferably to Davie Jones Locker. I would tell you what Aman was writing at his time of death, but the paper is soaked in blood and quite disgusting to be honest with you. Meanwhile, everyone else also wanted the new guy Drake to be murdered in front of everyone's eyes (please stay Drake we don't all love murdering, torture’s fun too). Drake was defiant though, he was Defiant Drake, capable of going against anything that someone suggests, even his own plans. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't defy the noose hanging around his neck, but I can confirm that he gave it a good try before Joe also stabbed him in the neck, which doesn't sound like it should work, but who needs suspension of disbelief. Anyway, at this point Joe’s campaign succeeded, and the Bondsmith successfully won the presidential campaign for Urithiru, with a loyal people behind him. It is inevitable that someone will backstab him at some point (this is Urithiru, after all) but right now everything is lovely and peaceful, as long as you ignore the countless dead bodies with empty eyes gazing into the uncomfortably hot abyss with the weather forecast saying it's going to be sunny and warm tomorrow. STINK was proud of his write-up done in 10 minutes, and promptly told Wilson to 'suck it’. There was a fair bit more involved, but there's no need to tell all you successful living people about that, right? - Uther (Drake Marshall) was lynched! He was a Ghostblood! Berilen Lieken (Amanuensis) was killed! He was a Ghostblood! Uther/Drake Marshall (lots of votes): basically everyone - The Bondsmith win con has been achieved! All the living players win! All the dead players lose! The Tranquilline Halls:(Dead/Spec Doc) Master Spreadsheet My GM thoughts will be up either today or tomorrow. I don’t have much to say, but I’ll note a few things. Co-GM thoughts after GM thoughts ← Written by STINK obvs. Thanks for playing everyone!
  2. The cycle and game are over! Writeup will be up shortly (it's not a comic, because I don't have access to the program I used to put it together right now).
  3. Cycle 3: Another Three Bite the Dust Sart was lynched! He was a Ghostblood! Seonid was poisoned! He was a Son of Honour! Arinian was poisoned! He was a Ghostblood! Sani Joslin (A Joe in the Bush) was attacked but survived! Sart (10): Magestar, Sani Joslin, Drak Deadeye, Droughtbringer, Bezth, Ryth, Sart, Seonid, Enias, Velez Droughtbringer (6): Quintus, Arinian, Berilen Leiken, Doc, Davis, Uther - Sorry for the lateness of this. Stink is busy and I decided to try something new, as you can tell. I hope you like it. I had fun with it. The turn ends at 12:30 PM MST on Sunday, 8 January. Countdown:
  4. I just noticed Bard's question from before the rollover. The Lightweaver is told whose room they snuck into to read the PMs of, so if they were redirected, they would know.
  5. Cycle 2: Honour is Dead Naturally, everyone had decided to not stay at the same place when they could go. And while I could tell you all about what each individual did, I’m only going to focus on a few others instead. Wouldn’t want to bore all of you too much with this writeup, now would I? So first up the block, we got Kipper. He might be dying right now, but he still has a story to hear, and it kinda is your duty to listen to him, so I can keep my job as a news reporter. STINK: So Kip, how’d you get in this situation? Kip: Well STINK, after everyone split up I thought I’d taste some of the local cuisine, you know? Take a nice break, maybe get a drink too and then get to all the stuff that needs to be done. STINK: Sounds like a good plan so far. What went wrong? Kip: I got to the first bit of my grand idea, that being the food, and found this lovely stall just around the corner from where I started that had the nicest smelling food I’ve ever well, smelt. Won’t find it now though, owner’s probably long gone. STINK: Oh really? Why’d that be? Kip: For the same reason I expect most murderers to leave the crime scene? STINK: Are you suggesting what I think you’re suggesting? Kip: If you’re getting the impression that my food may have been poisoned, then you’d be getting exactly what I’m suggesting. STINK: But how do you think they managed to get away then? Is the law enforcement in Urithiru not effective enough? Kip: You think I care? Get outta here already would ya! I got barely any minutes left to live and you’re shoving your microphone right where it shouldn’t be! STINK: Alright then, thank you for answering my questions, sir. Well he was a bit of a rude one near the end wasn’t he? Anyway, we’re not done with the news report yet! (Don’t ask me when I was hired, don’t think I’d be able to answer) STINK: And now I’m being told that Wilson has an urgent news update to do with another death in the city! Wilson: Indeed, STINK. We have just received reports that someone has been caught in a vicious attack. Unfortunately, that is the only information we have right now, but we promise that we will have more later. The next day… Wilson: Good Morning Urithiru! I’m your host Wilson. Orlok: And I’m your co-host Orlok, and together we’ll be bringing you the latest news. Wilson: First up we have more information about the vicious attack that happened yesterday, the main one being that the victim was a ‘Mr Hoid’. Orlok: And not only that, but police also seem to think that the victim was nearly defenestrated! The closest window to the body had cracks in such a manner that it suggested that the victim was pushed into it, but managed to recover. Wilson: So instead, the victim died to an unknown weapon. We have someone on the scene of the crime to describe the most peculiar thing about this case, though. So, STINK, could you tell us more? STINK: Well you see the weirdest thing about the case is that when the corpse was found there were also many circles and diagrams drawn around the corpse, and no-one is really quite sure why but Another thing about the case is that I have had no sleep whatsoever because I am apparently the sole reporter allowed to go out to places and am only staying awake through many many many drugs of various sorts but I can’t really say that can I oh is this being aired live well then time to find another job maybe I could be a good cook? - Lopon/TheMightyLopen (2): Mr. Hoid, Sani Joslin Sart (2): Velez, Quintus Quintus/Jondesu (2): Kipper, Berilen Leiken Nelop/Assassin in Burgundy (1): Uther Bezth/Berenion (1): Sart Ryth/Silverblade (1): Davis Seonid (1): Doc Kipper (Kipper) was poisoned! He was a Son of Honour! Mr. Hoid (Conquestor) was killed! He was a Son of Honour! Lopon (TheMightyLopen) was lynched! He was a Son of Honour!
  6. The first post of the game, with the rules, will be updated to include quick links to all prior cycles. Rather than posting them in each writeup, you can check that first post and go from there. That first post also contains the player list.
  7. So this stopped happening for basically the entirety of last semester. Would anyone be interested in this starting back up again? The last few meetings before we stopped were just me and Sunbird meeting and there's not a whole lot of point in doing it if only 2 people show up. 3 or more works a fair bit better. We can easily do the pizza thing again: switch off who brings pizza each meeting. That shouldn't be a problem unless we get 10+ people showing up consistently (which I don't foresee happening). So yeah. Who all is interested in restarting the Cosmere Club?
  8. Last night, Utah gave me the middle finger. I am from Idaho, and I flew to my parents' for Christmas. Since my work was closed on the Friday and Monday around Christmas and New Year's, I noticed that I could use 3 of my PTO days to get 11 days off, which is more time off work than I've had in over 4 years. I decided to do this. Those days off were great. Especially the last 6 days of it. Relaxing, sleeping 9 hours a night, not waking up until 9-10am. It was beautiful. But all good things come to an end, and I had to get ready for my flight back to Utah. It's only a 30 minute flight from my hometown to the Salt Lake International Airport. They allot an hour for it though, for preparation and stuff. So my flight was supposed to take off at 6:20 pm and land at 7:20. Boarding at 5:55. The plane didn't even land until about 6:00, and then there was a plan from LA that landed, and they unloaded that before they let us board the one to SLC (it's a very small airport), so we didn't even end up boarding the plane until 6:30. The LA flight that was taking off after us had overbooked, and they wanted some passengers to move to the SLC flight, so then they had that paperwork to do, with the comp stuff there and everything and that delayed us more. And then they decided to do a roll call of the passengers. Twice. Yes, I said a roll call on a plane. They went down the rows one by one and marked everyone off. And then they did it again. Note: these planes hold a max of 50 passengers. Yeah, we didn't take off until about 7:15. And didn't land until just before 8. Since so many other passengers had connecting flights that were either boarding right then or just about to board and I'd already "missed" my train to Provo (more on that in a bit), I waited until almost everyone else had left the plane. Provo is about 40 minutes to an hour south of Salt Lake City, in good driving conditions with moderate traffic. There is a mediocre public transit system in the Salt Lake area; the street level system is called TRAX and the north-south train running from Ogden to Provo is Frontrunner. Both are operated by the Utah Transit Authority. I checked the UTA site prior to even leaving Provo before Christmas to make sure that it would be running on January 2nd, and there were no notices about limited services. I checked the site again when I was arranging a ride from the Frontrunner station in Provo to my place. Again, no notices. I get to the TRAX station at the airport (you have to take TRAX to Frontrunner, since Frontrunner doesn't go to the airport), and check the app on my phone. It's showing no Frontrunner services. I call my dad and have him check the site again, and he doesn't see any notices about it, though he ended up finding a notice on a back page that no one who is looking at schedules is ever going to look at. I confirm with a UTA guy on the platform when the TRAX train shows up that yes, Frontrunner is indeed not running. I called my sister who lives in the Salt Lake area. She usually works Monday nights, but miraculously, she was not working when I called. She said she'd come pick me up. It was snowing, and the roads were pretty bad. Over the next hour while I waited for her, I learned that there were no shuttles from the airport to Provo for the rest of the night, and I was mildly worried that I would have to stay at my sister's for the night, and find a way to Provo early in the morning, when it was unlikely that the roads would be any better then (surprise: they weren't). My sister finally got to the airport at about 9:40 pm. The roads were terrible. Some areas weren't too bad--in fact, they were almost completely clear--but other areas were packed with snow and there was no traction at all (this was mostly just one highway that is notoriously bad. Once we got off that road, even the snow-packed roads had at least a bit of traction). We avoided the freeways, staying on city roads because those were generally better (and the other people on the road generally weren't tailgating and driving too fast). I did not get home until 11:45. She did not get back to her place until 1:30. She is an angel and I love her. But anyway. I could feel the stress in my body, so I decided to sacrifice some of my sleep to take a long, hot shower to wash out some of the stress. And the hot water ran out not even 8 minutes in to my shower. So I went to bed. And I woke up multiple times to snow plows making a racket out on the main road (which is right outside my window), police sirens heading to accidents, and my roommate's dog's high-pitched whine and barking at the sirens and everything else. And a train's horn (because now the trains are running. Of course...) And then this morning, my car got stuck while trying to get out of my driveway, because of the snow that had already been on the ground and the about 4-6 inches that were dropped after I got back last night (I could barely see the indentations of my footprints from the night before). I got to work 20 minutes late (which was fine because my boss knew what was going on, but still). This year is off to a grand start.
  9. Clarifications Q: Will the people above me in the chain of command know my role and similarly will I know the role of the people below me? A: You are the only one who knows you role. The only way anyone else will discover it is if you tell anyone else who contacts you. Q: If my Captain/Commander/Leader contacts me in a PM this cycle, I am allowed to reply to him and all? A: Yes. Any chain of command PM begun this cycle can be talked in as much as you want. Q: Should the GMs be included in PMs? A: Yes, definitely. Include both Stink and I in any PM created. Q: Communication is limited by PMs this game. We can create one each cycle, but how long do the PMs last: do they end at the end of the day, or do they last for the remainder of the game? A: All PMs created last for as long as both players are still alive. Q: For all a Private/Captain/Commander knows, the person above them in the Chain of Command can be a Diagrammist, correct? A: Yes. Anyone could be a Diagrammist. Q: Are the members of the Sons of Honour and the Ghostbloods equal in number? A: Yes. Q: How many Commanders are there in each group? A: PAFO Q: Since there is no Diagrammist doc, what happens if there are multiple kill orders placed? A: We'll flip a coin to see which kill takes precedence. Q: Can people with the ability to PM create group PMs? A: No. PMs are only between two players. Q: Is one vote enough to lynch someone? A: No. Two votes or more are necessary for a successful lynch. Q: What happens if there's a tie in the lynch votes? A: A coinflip will decide. Q: Can I kill Stink? A: I would rather if my co-GM (or myself, for that matter) was not killed by either a knife in the back or spicing up our food, thanks. Q: If an Assassin tracks the Diagrammist making the kill, are they alerted to the fact that the person they're tracking is a Diagrammist? A: No. The Assassin would only see a random person who targeted the Diagrammist. If the Assassin was tracking the person killed instead, they would have a chance of seeing the Diagrammist. Q: Can commanders see everyone in positions below them or is that just the leaders? A: The Commander sees everyone below them in their part of the command structure. If there is second Commander, the first Commander does not have authority over anyone below the second Commander and therefore would not see them in their command structure (and also cannot PM them with the Chain of Command PM). Q: With Illumination, does it redirect an action my target takes or an action aimed at my target? A: The latter. Illumination redirects a random action that is aimed at your target onto a different target of your choice. Q: Do I have to vote and use an ability to avoid the inactivity filter? A: You don't have to vote, but you do have to post. And if you have an action, yes, you must use it as well. Q: Can I close/delete a PM so that the Edgedancer can't see it? A: No. All PMs, once opened, are open until one of the players dies. Closing/deleting a PM will not keep it from being seen by the Edgedancer. If I have to go through my email notifications to see what was said in a deleted PM, I will, and I assure you, I will not be happy about it. So please do not delete PMs. Q: When a PM is created between two players, are they informed if the Bondsmith or Runner created it? Does a Bondsmith-created PM look different than a Runner-created PM? A: No. You will not know which role type created a PM. All created PMs via actions look the same. Q: Do Diagrammists have a chain of command of their own? If so, can they message through it? Or must they rely on the Son of Honor / Ghostblood CoCs? A: No. They must rely on the SH/GB CoC PMs and PMs set up by the Bondsmith/Runners. Q: Do the Diagrammists know who is on the team? A: Yes. They may or may not be able to contact each other, by they certainly know who their teammates are.
  10. Cycle 1: The Hunt Begins 21 people had all found themselves in the same stall at the market. And if you were wondering, the stall sold everything. If you can think of it, it sells it. Weapons, fish, bread, books, stories about 20 people all murdering each other as they try to win an online game. All kinds of things. But I digress, let’s not focus on the stall, or the market, or the bustling city of Urithiru slowly expanding as life carries on for every single indescribable human moving there. Let’s instead talk about the murderers so called politicians. After all, some of them do have to work with others to get rid of the undesirables. Who are the undesirables? The mathematicians Diagrammists of course. It was up to the Sons of Honour to take them down! But actually, it was up to the Ghostbloods to take them down! But actually actually, it was up to the Sons of Honour to take them down! And so on and on and on and on and on and on and off. Anyway I’ve digressed again, so let’s start again. 21 people had all found themselves in the same stall the the market. None of them knew who was who, or if they really were even a person. The level of paranoia was indeed that high. Each was silent, almost as if they were waiting for an order from someone else. The owner of the stall was busy ordering his stock. The 20 people still had not moved, still looking like they wanted an order. The owner of the stall failed to see the hint he had just been given. Someone walked by the stall, commenting “Now would one of you go get the owner of that stall and tell him to do something?”, which was very convenient for the story and totally accidental. And it was Stick who got the owner, and it was Stick that got pinched and fainted from the pain, but at least the owner got the memo. “Alright everybody, you can either stay in my stall or you can finally get to the fun bit of this whole thing!” And so all the remaining 20 players started shouting over each other. ---- And so MR19 begins! All PMs are sent. This cycle will end at 12:30 PM MST on Wednesday. I'll edit in a countdown in a few minutes. The player list is up-to-date, with 20 players and 1 pinch-hitter. If you have any questions, ask in the thread or in your GM PM. Remember that this is a limited PMs game, so do not send PMs this cycle unless you are Restares/Thaidakar, a Commander or a Captain. Each of these positions can send one PM each cycle to someone reporting to them in the chain of command. Thank you and good luck!
  11. My default state is ESTJ, though the N/S and T/F preferences are low enough that I can switch back and forth when the occasion calls for it. E and J are always between 40-60% though. Which is strong, for me, even if it's only a moderate preference generally. For other personality things, in the color personality test (white, blue, red, yellow) about driving motivations, I'm a red-yellow, meaning that I'm driven by responsibility/power and fun. In the big 5 (also called OCEAN), I'm highly open to new experiences, highly conscientious, moderately extroverted, moderately agreeable, and low in neuroticism. And I think that's all the halfway legit personality things I've taken thus far. I should take more. I love them because while no one test is going to be entirely helpful, the more you take, the more you learn and the better you come to understand yourself, which is always good.
  12. The inactivity in the last few games has been absurdly high. It's generally higher than it should be anyway (Luckat, a player who's been around since LG2, quit SE completely in large part due to inactivity), but it's been significantly worse in recent games. I'd rather people not sign up and the game runs with less people but everyone is active, than I get 25+ players, but 10 of them aren't even paying attention. The first run of this game had 36 players, and over 10 of them were inactive. I'm not doing that again. That said, if you only do one on the first cycle but all three on the second, you'll be fine. Most games with filters have at least a bit of a warning system, and the first cycle will be that warning system. If you can do all three and you don't, you'll be warned. If you still don't do all three in the second cycle, you'll be replaced. And I think that's fair.
