Quick Fix Game 5: The Hunger Games!
Mckeedee123 replied to Peng the Just's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Mato was snooping around and found that every single tribute had one or more Brandon Sanderson books. Looks like we're all fans. How about that? In fact, in one locker Mato found all 36 Cosmere books (Storms. Now I wish I really could live as a slave in a horrible dystopia just so that I could have access to all books that will one day be written by Brandon Sanderson) EDIT: Nevermind. I'd probably just end up finding that he died of a horrible fungus halfway through writing Highprince of War, leaving the entire fandom hanging, forever to debate what realmatic theory was and which characters died by the end of the Cosmere Saga.- 209 replies

Quick Fix Game 5: The Hunger Games!

Excellent point. I forgot to mention that my character found a rogue copy of the WoK and reads it every night after he gets back from the diamond mines. He is now a fan of Brandon Sanderson and makes references to his books that he thinks no one else can understand. Who? Me?- 209 replies

Quick Fix Game 5: The Hunger Games!
Mckeedee123 replied to Peng the Just's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'll be a male from 1 And I'm starting a faction: The Victors. The first three people to PM me, we'll work together to help each other survive (You can trust me. I'm not a very good liar. I solemnly swear that on the honor of my e-reader) EDIT: And by the way, my name is... Cato Mato. Don't wear it out. EDIT 2: My, you updated the roster fast... So I was thinking, what are the special expletives we're supposed to use in the HG universe? Do we yell "Snow!" or "Coin!" whenever we stub our toes? I need something to work with here. Something to replace "Storms" and "Storming". Sigh... Our vocabulary is going to be so boring in Collins Elimination...- 209 replies

Gaming the system, how world hoppers can make a fortune
Mckeedee123 replied to Unhinged's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah, I thought this was pretty apparent. Though what's really cheap on Roshar isn't gems, it's gold. Gold has virtually no value to Rosharans since it's so easy to make. That's why they have to use gems as currency. Compare that to Nalthis, where (correct me if I'm wrong) currency is basically just gold ingots. I'd say, grab a bunch of chickens or horses, trade them for a low-quality Soulcaster, and then use your newfound gold to buy yourself an infinite amount of breath. You could be completely immortal! I've got to wonder why Vasher hasn't done this. Perhaps he's trying to lie low. Maybe the 17th Shard regulates worldhoppers so that they can't cheat the system like this. -

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Mckeedee123 replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, I survived for some reason. I started this game with no idea how to play, but now I think I've got a much better handle on it. I've even managed to convince myself that my RP's got better over time. My original plan was for Mek to start as a fanatically devoted spearman and then slowly progress to a kind of awareness that corruption and immorality pervaded all of Alethi society, even Dalinar's army. I strayed away from that, and my character just kind of mellowed out instead. Anyway, next game, I won't be punctuating all my posts with statements about how nooby I am. So who's up for round two?- 611 replies

Favourite character of Elantris
Mckeedee123 replied to missionaryofgod's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Raoden for me. Sure, he isn't "complex", but I think being in Elantris makes that OK. He's like Kaladin in that he's constantly fighting against misery. -
Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Mckeedee123 replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Mek set his drink back on the counter, mulling over the events of the past month. Highprince Roion had surrendered at last. The string of defeats he had suffered had finally been enough to break the man's war machine. The terms of surrender had been generous, but from this point on, Roion's princedom would probably be the weakest in Alethkar. His demise would serve as a powerful symbol of Kholin strength. Already, Thanadal and Ruthar were in the process of joining Gavilar's coalition. The Roion campaign had been short, but intense. Dalinar's army had taken a real beating, which was why it was currenly resupplying in Kholinar. Mek wasn't quite sure what to do with himself without that constant tension that he had felt during those weeks. Of course, the war wasn't over yet. Duke Aladar, er... Highprince Aladar, was openly defying Gavilar's authority. Mek found that ironic, as Gavilar had given Aladar the throne he now held. A few days after Mek had defected from Yenev's army, Highprince Yenev had been killed in a contrived duel with Sadeas so that Aladar, who was supposedly sympathetic to Gavilar's cause, could take the throne. Storming lighteyes... thousands of soldiers are going to die just so that man could prove he isn't a puppet. Mek attracted a few angerspren just thinking about it. In a few days he would be fighting his own comrades, pillaging his own homeland. Storms. Could I really do that? He had grown up in a small village in the center of the princedom before apprenticing himself to a silversmith from Dalilak. He remembered fields of Lavis polyps and a girl with large, brown, eyes. And he decided that yes, he could fight against his own princedom. He would do anything to see Gavilar's dream fulfilled. Mek pulled a clearchip from his pocket. Sometimes, Mek wondered why people never really stopped to look at spheres. They were so beautiful. Each and every one. Unique and full of light. And as Mek stared at that shifting light he thought he saw something. A paradise. An Alethkar without war, where Lighteyes were honorable and soldiers didn't have to kill each other in needless squabbles and him and Riela could live in peace. And it was beautiful. That was what he he had fought for. That is what he would fight for. He glanced about the tavern, and saw most of his friends and comrades talking and laughing. The last few weeks had been hard on all of them, and over half of the group he had initially signed up with had already ascended to the tranquilline halls. The survivors were so diverse. Norlav, Reihmer, Alinel, Eoldren, Kaddar, Jost, Tal, and Newan. Many of them hailed from faraway lands and princedoms, yet they were united by this one dream. The door to the tavern opened, and Torwel emerged from the night's darkness, two hooded men following. He carried his spear over his shoulder, and had a resigned sort of look about him. He walked over to the counter. "I'll have your best ale," he said quietly, handing a bag of spheres to the bartender. It was fairly large, and Mek saw an intense, bright green light shining through the fibers. Storms. That thing's full of emerald chips. Where did Torwel get so much money? Neither of Torwel's companions sat down. The bartender, looking a bit perplexed, handed him a mug of vintage horneater lager. Torwel gulped it down, barely flinching at the taste of the powerful brew. Impressive. Torwel called for another, and again, he drank it in a single swig. There was a storm brewing in his eyes as he stared at the table full of Kholin soldiers. Mek didn't like the way this storm was blowing... EDIT: Changed the ending to make it more open-ended. I wanted the final write-up to be an epic bar fight (See QF Game 2), but I guess everyone needs some more leeway to write their final lines (nice one, Reihmer)- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Mckeedee123 replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The eliminators targeted one of the Shardbladers, no doubt. It was their only hope of surviving to the round after next. If Newan hadn't killed Odysa, I would have assumed that he had used his battle skip. So the other possibility is that Jost is actually yet another officer, and roleblocked Aonar. I'm fairly certain that Kaddar is who he says he is, because if he is actually a spy, then it's the most elaborate ruse in history. Those two are the only ones to have lighteyes roles (besides Alv, supposedly) I'm double-checking the rules here, but if we can assume that the Eliminators targeted a Shardblader, Jost would have to be an officer. Actually (I know that this undermines the above theory), it sounded in the writeup as if Aonar had lost hope completely (with two Shardbladers in play, I don't blame him). He might not even have sent in a vote, and trusted the other eliminator team to make the right choice. Anyway, Alv used his ability on Tal last round. Probably his surgeon ability, but possibly an eliminator vote. EDIT: Ah, yes. I forgot to apologize for voting against Odysa 4 rounds in a row. You were innocent after all.- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Mckeedee123 replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Agreed. In fact, I'm actually taking the time to read all of the massive walls of blue text this round because there are considerably less of them. Hmm... to RP or not to RP? That is the question. Alright, fine. There's been way too much blue lately. ________________________________________ Mek was a target. He knew it as he collected his equipment. He knew it as he lined up into his battle formation. He knew it as he marched toward the enemy, spear in hand, to end the Northeastern Phase of the Alethi War of Unification. Leading up to the battle, there had been four major deaths in the army. Four. The last few days would be remembered as some of the bloodiest in the war's history, aside from the actual battles. Karlin and Ace would not be missed, of course, traitors as they were. Marand though... well, at least Mek didn't have the man's blood on his hands, though several soldiers marched with their heads down, ashamed for their part in his death. There was some good news, however. Dalinar had reported, just before the battle, that a darkeyed spy loyal to Vamah had been captured and tortured into giving names. By next week, Vamah's entire intelligence network would probably be decapitated, both figuratively and literally. Progress had been made towards Aladar's as well, but everything was far from conclusive. The nature of Roion's spy network though... well, that was still an enigma. From what Mek had heard from the higher-ups, Roion had started with one of the most powerful intelligence networks in the army, and the Committee of Un-Alethi Activities had made little progress in singling those spies out. Roion's spies were more intent on reporting information than committing acts of sabotage. It was a safer way to do things, and their intel was probably the biggest reason why the war had been dragging on for so long up here. As he marched, Mek inspected the army forming up on the field ahead. Fortunately, the Kholin army wasn't within firing distance of Roion's archers yet. Weeks of fighting battles with hails of arrows coming at them had forced the army to adopt new tactics. Mek, along with the rest of his squad, had been assigned larger, square-shaped shields, which could be raised above the head to block arrows when the company adopted its new "Chull-Shell" formations. He glanced at Kaddar. No one had made any moves against the man yet, but Mek watched just in case. Kaddar had distinguished himself as loyal to Dalinar early on in the war, which made him a target for assassins. Mek believed that the man's role would make people less likely to guard him, which could help Mek avoid situations like that fiasco last week, when Mek had barged into the Committee of Un-Alethi Activities office demanding for Eoldren's arrest, only to find that the man had actually been dutifully protecting Kaddar from an assassin during the attack. Come to think of it, Mek's story of events seemed to conflict with the official report, what with the arrows and all. Mek had resolved to get some more sleep. (Come to think of it, I am actually writing this at 1:08 AM in my time zone) Horns began blaring from the other side of the field. The Kholin army was about to come within range of Roion's archers. Mek could barely make them out, pulling arrows from their quivers. In the confusion of this battle, Mek had no doubt that at least one enemy assassin would try to kill him. Alvron had mentioned something earlier about staying close by to protect Mek if he were attacked, but Ace had used his last shred of authority to send the man to clean latrines for the duration of the battle. Perhaps it doesn't matter if I watch Kaddar after all. I certainly won't be able to report anything once I'm dead. Mek heard more horns blow. This time, from his side of the field. Well, I'm doomed. Might as well make the most of it. He unlatched his shield, and the army charged. _______________________________ Mek survived the battle. He could barely believe it. He was bleeding from wounds all over his body, including a fairly large cut on his chest, but with a little medical treatment, he would live to fight again. No sign of assassins. Even Kaddar had survived unscathed, despite what Mek had assumed. Dalinar's vanguard had engaged Roion's army quickly, and had barely been weakened by Roion's barrages of arrows. The Kholin cavalry had then managed to flank the archers, turning the battle into a rout. Another victory. So far as Mek knew, Dalinar's army hadn't lost a major battle yet. Unexpectedly, however, Roion had refused to surrender, and what was left of his troops had regrouped farther north. Storms, Mek was sick of fighting Roion. Would next week's skirmishes finally end this phase of the war? Only chance time would tell.- 611 replies

Mid-Range Game 4: The Alethi War of Unification
Mckeedee123 replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Nope. No "special plans" here. Last cycle, I figured Kasimir was a likely target, and wouldn't be guarded, so I used my power on him. I got a negative. I've waited to share this because Alvron might have implied earlier in this cycle that he used his ability on Kaddar, and I wanted to have that confirmed by him, in which case he would be lying. But other than that, the info is useless. EDIT: Color EDIT 2: Removed random comma that was, bugging me- 611 replies

8:00 GMT is 2:00 US central time, so it looks like this is my last post this cycle. You guys are right in saying Macen is a waste of a lynch, so I'll retract my vote. Well, seeing as Odysa put a vote on MAcen, while not being as nooby as I am, I think I'll put a vote on her. Again. Alright, I've got something here: Quick Fix Game: The Dula Revolution -------------------- Welcome to Duladel, the greatest nation in Opelon, Kolo? It's election season here, and people are campaigning left and right. Of course, some Derethi rulos have shown up and are causing trouble, but what harm could they possibly do? -------------------- This scenario takes place in Duladel just before Hrathen begins the revolution. There are three distinct groups with their own victory conditions: -The Derethi Converts: They win if they outnumber every other religious sect combined, and lose in any other situation -The Jeskeri Mysteries: They win if the Derethi Converts are exterminated while half or more of the Senate belongs to the Mysteries. If the Derethi religion is stamped out and the Mysteries Cult does not control the senate, the members of The Cult will be executed. -The Dulas: The Korathi, Jeskers, and Shu-Kesegans. They win if the Derethi religion is stamped out, but if The Cult controls half or more of the Senate seats at the end of the final cycle, all Non-Cultists will die horrible deaths There are 4 Cycles: A,B,C, and D. These happen sequentially and the order repeats. To break down what happens in each of them (this will make sense later): A- Derethi Murder, Recall vote, Lynch B- Election, Derethi Conversion/Murder, Cult Sacrifice, Lynch C- Derethi Murder, Recall vote, Lynch D- Election, Derethi Conversion/Murder, Cult Sacrifice, Lynch There are also 4 docs: Korathi forum- (Members of Shu-Korath) -Private- Derethi forum- (Members of Shu-Dereth) -Private- Cult forum- (Members of The Cult) -Private- Senate forum- (Members of the Senate may write on it) -PUBLIC- -------------------- Every player is granted 2 distinct traits at the start: Religion and Role. Religion: -Shu-Dereth (2) - All members of Shu-Dereth can use their secret doc. If both the Gyorn and Derethi Monk are dead, the remaining members get to agree on a player to kill on "A" and "C" cycles. -Shu-Korath (1) - All members of Shu-Korath get a secret doc and can PM as much as they want to other confirmed members, list of members will be PM-ed to you at the start of the cycle -Shu-Keseg (1) - There's only one of you. -Jeskeri Mysteries (3-5) - All members of The Cult get a secret doc, list of members will be PM-ed to you at the start of the cycle. -Jesker (Everyone else) - You have no idea who is a member and who isn't, no PMs. Role: -Gyorn: This is the leader of Duladel's branch of Shu-Dereth. The role is only available to a player who started as a member of Shu-Dereth. -Abilities: - Derethi Conversion: On "B" and "D" Cycles, the Gyorn may choose a player to convert. If the selected player is a member of Jesker (and has not been selected for conversion by the Korathi Monk), they will join Shu-Dereth. If not, the selected player will be informed of the conversion attempt, but not the Gyorn who attempted it. The fact that a conversion took place will be revealed in the write-up. - Assassination: On "A", "B", "C", and "D" Cycles, the Gyorn may choose a player to kill. This kill is blockable. This ability cannot be used at the same time as the "Derethi Conversion" ability. -Derethi Monk: This is the other player who started as a member of Shu-Dereth. -Abilities: -Ambition: If the Gyorn is killed, the Derethi monk will gain the Gyorn's powers of Assassination -Korathi Monk: This is the player who started as a member of Shu-Korath. -Abilities: -Korathi Conversion: On the first cycle, and thereafter once in every sequence of "A", "B", "C", and "D" cycles, the Korathi monk may choose a player to convert. If the selected player is a member of Jesker or Shu-Keseg, they will be converted to your cause. If the conversion fails (The convertee is a member of Shu-Dereth or The Cult), they will not be notified of the conversion attempt and the conversion ability can still be used later in the sequence. When a Korathi conversion goes through, the fact that someone was converted will be revealed in the write-up. -Kesegan Monk: This is the player who started as a member of Shu-Keseg -Abilities: -Charge: This uses up your action for the cycle. -ChayShan: If a Kesegan monk has charged their ChayShan for one cycle, they recieve a blockable kill action. If they have charged it for two cycles in a row, they recieve an unblockable kill action. Once a kill action has been used, the power will go back to an uncharged state. -Cult Leader: This is the leader of the Jeskeri Mysteries -Abilities: -Ritual Sacrifice: On "C" cycles, this leader can choose a player to kill. This is a blockable kill action -Merchant: These are seeded among the rest of the players. -Abilities: -Business Trip: Twice per game, these players can skip a cycle. They will not be able to take any actions that cycle, but are immune to blockable kill actions -Duelist: There are 3-5 of these -Abilities: -Guard: These players can select a player to defend, and during that cycle, all blockable kill actions used against that player will be blocked. The duelist will be wounded once he has successfully defended someone, however, and will not be able to perform this ability again -The Landlord: An affluent citizen. There is 1-2 of them -Abilities: -Affluence: When this ability is used, the landlord's vote towards the Senate counts double. ---------------------------------------- The Senate: The Senate (I'm calling it the Senate, though the canon probably has a different, as-of-now unstated name for it) is the center of Dula society. On cycles "B" and "D", there is an election, in which a player is selected to join the Senate. On "A" and "C" cycles, there is a recall election, where a member of the senate is recalled. 5 players will be randomly selected to be the initial Republicans. These players can have any role or religious affiliation. Once the controversy over Shu-Dereth starts (the entire game), however, the public will grow much more suspicious, preventing the Gyorn from converting Republicans who are already in office. Republicans get a public doc to discuss... Senate stuff. In addition to their public lynch vote, Senators get a special "Senate Lynch" vote that they can send in via PM. The person who the Senate chooses (by simple majority) will have 2 extra points put on them for the lynch. It will be announced who was selected by the Senate to get the extra points put on them. A senator must have at least 2 Senate votes on them to be elected. A senator must have at least 4 Senate votes on them to be recalled Votes for lynching are in red (and bolded) Repealing lynch votes are in green (and bolded) Votes for Senate are in pink (and bolded) Repealing Senate votes are in orange and (bolded) ------------------------------------- Senate Proposals: These should make the game a little more interesting. Once per cycle, a Senate Proposal will go forward in the public doc. Each sequence has 4 distinct proposals (1 for each cycle) that will go through in random order. Senators will vote Yes-Kolo or No-Kolo on the public doc. A simple majority will determine if the proposal goes through. -First sequence: The Phantom Menace - Institute a Holiday: No lynch and no murders next cycle - Survey: Two Non-Republicans will be randomly selected, and those players will learn each others' roles - Employment Project: Two random players with no role will randomly receive one of these roles: Merchant, Duelist, Landlord - Sewage System Renovation: No in-game effect -Second sequence: Attack of the Derethi - Investigation: The identity of the Korathi Monk and Derethi Monk will both be revealed - Census: A rough census will be taken to see how many members of each religion there are - Banishment: Two random Non-Republicans will be banished (effectively dead, but technically survive the game. Role and religious affiliation will NOT be revealed. The players to be banished will be announced at the start of the cycle. - Formation of "Citizen Action Committees": Three sets of two random players will have a PM started between them. -Third sequence: Panic of the Republic - Xenophobia: The names of all Korathi converts and a single Derethi convert will be revealed - New State Religion: Automatic victory for The Cult and all Non-Cult players will die horrible deaths. - Terror: Each Non-Republican has a 50/50 chance of having their religious affiliation revealed - Declaration of War Against Fjordell: No in-game effect ------------------------------------- I suggested that this be a Quick-Fix Game because their aren't very many kill actions floating around. It could take a lot of cycles for the spies to finally be rooted out. Or to root out everyone else... And an award goes to the player that creates the most posts that use the word "kolo" more than twice.

Mistborn fan looking for where to go next
Mckeedee123 replied to Siriagus's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Agreed. Stormlight Archives Rocks. That is as true as the fact that Stick is a stick Mistborn was the second series I read through. It took me about a week to finish them. The biggest impression I got, originally, was how many of the main characters died just as soon as I took notice of them. Specifically, Clubs and Dockson. Most of the names of the members of the crew just kind of blended together in my mind, and it wasn't until the end of book two that I actually bothered to distinguish between them. Of course, that's when characters started dropping like flies. The entire time I was reading I expected Kelsier to come back somehow, as I just couldn't except Vin as the main character. When "Kelsier" appeared to Spook, I bought it hook, line, and sinker. Of course, once I was halfway through Hero of Ages, I had decided that Vin was all right after all (she wasn't as needy as she had been in WoA). Then she dies, and... Sazed of all people becomes the HoA? I was pretty surprised, though I found that the ending really tied everything up well. I was content (though very depressed). Re-reading it, everything seems less... dying-y than it was before. There's a sense of inevitabilty to it now, and I don't feel bad for the dead characters. It's a lot better now that I see everything in the context of the whole story arc. (I noticed Hoid immediately when reading through it the first time, though the fact that I had read WoK first slightly diminishes that accomplishment...) -------------------- Kind of went off on a tangent there. Anyway, when I first read Way of Kings (suggested to me by my cousins at a family reunion who were hyping about it), my first impression was: Holy Stormfather! I'm on Storming Cloud Nine! That was Storming awesome! (After 1200+ pages, you kind of adopt the language) Point is: SA is awesome. Read those first -

Hmm... well, this is... um... really awkward to say, but... I actually misunderstood how my role worked for rounds 1 and 2. When I read the initial post, my assumption was that a watchman didn't have any actions per se, he just sat around and the GM would inform him if someone performed an action against him. So I didn't send in any names to Wyrm until he sent me a PM during round 3 asking if I misunderstood my role. (I did) lol, such a waste... and I'm almost certainly getting assassinated this round too (I wish there was an emoticon for "I feel like a complete and utter noob"). Edit: Storms... and I just realized that my RP is off... Macen was the one who was saved from archers, not Kaddar. Aaaaaaaaaaaaw yeaaaaaaaaah!!! Mek glanced over the chaos of the battlefield, watching Kaddar. "Archers!" someone shouted. Mek peered over his shieldmate to see Roion's finest corps getting into position to make a final, desperate volley against the Kholin army. Mek looked back at Kaddar, who apparently didn't even know how to use his shield, a supposedly "darkeyes" tool of war, for cover. Idiot! He's going to get himself killed! Mek tried to get there and help. He was fairly certain that Kaddar wasn't the spy, but Mek had chosen to spend the week watching him anyway. That spanreed made Kaddar a target, and Mek wanted to catch anyone who moved against the man. Not that it had mattered. No one had attacked him. Well, no one had sabotaged him, at least. Mek had heard rumors that he had been sent to the vanguard to die, by Dalinar's orders. Forget assassins. The idiot was going to get killed out here by enemy archers. Mek couldn't move fast enough to help him, so he just ducked down and covered himself with his shield. Through the corner of his eye he caught a figure moving toward Kaddar, knife in hand. Mek almost looked up to see who it was, but a slew of arrows hit his shield. When he looked up, Eoldren was stumbling away from Kaddar's corpse. Corpse? No. Storms, the man was alive. A guardsman must have saved him. Was it Eoldren? Perhaps. Mek knew one thing, however. He had to come forward with this information. If Eoldren was the would-be assassin, well, that was definitely important to the investigation. Dalinar's troops crashed against the archers, and it looked like his army would win yet another battle. Storms, this almost feels unfair. maybe we should lose one every once in a while just to keep it interesting. Well, then again, the stakes were real here. Probably best that they keep winning. This, however, was just a light rainfall compared to the Highstorm they'd be facing next week. They had only fought a fraction of Roion's army today, and in just five days they'd be ready to attack Roion once and for all, and finally get a break from all these incursions from the northeast. ---- Kinda got carried away with the RP. Anyway, I finally have some useful information to posit. I am a watchman, and was watching Kasimir this week. Eoldren performed an action (ie. a Shardblade kill, Eliminator vote, or Role action) on Kasimir this round. Yippee! I actually did something! Anyway, while I understand Eoldren could have been the lovely guardsman who saved Kas, I'm voting him as one of the eliminators that targeted him. Eoldren- 611 replies
