  1. I'll take it. It works.
  2. er... well, yes. What I was saying was that all investiture is essentially the same magic system, and that system is based on sound vibrations/investiture pulses (whatever you hear when you burn bronze). So for example, it's the pulse an Aon produces (not necessarily its shape) that tells the Dor how to manifest itself. Likewise, different metals produce slightly different sounds when rung, which is probably the principle on which Allomancy is built.
  3. *Calls for a standing ovation*
  4. Melend Venture, former Lord of Tremredare, stood on Aralis' porch, staring at Wilson's body. The skaa had forced Melend to come along as they followed the trail of notes, eventually reaching Aralis' house. The corpse had been found crumpled next to the old man's rocking chair, a steel stake jutting from its neck. It reminded Melend of ministry executions back home. The skaa muttered behind him. "Why kill someone this way?" "Wouldn't a knife to the back have been easier?" "Who would want Wilson dead?" Melend reached down for Wilson's messenger bag. Rifling through its contents, he found a small vial of metal shavings in an alcohol solution. Melend dipped a finger in and tasted it. He turned around. "Alright. First off, Wilson was, indeed, a lurcher. This vial proves it." The crowd nodded, though several skaa scowled at him. He had a rather bad reputation among them, apparently. "Second, she was innocent. She doesn't seem to have any metal piercing her body, other than the, er... metal stake through her throat, of course." Melend noted a handful of skaa shuffling away at the news. The ones who had been accusing Wilson. Admittedly, Melend wasn't really certain what to think about the murder. On one hand, it would further destabilize the village, making it more likely that Melend would be run through by a Koloss within the next few weeks. On the other, one more dead skaa! Just because Wlison was competent didn't mean she got to make decisions, after all. That was a Nobleman's job. On the other side of the village, from the direction of the metallurgist's shop, Melend heard shouting. More dead people? Melend headed over, instructing Mazed to remain behind and keep the crowd under control. Halfway to the shop, he saw Joe running past him. "Cleo's dead." He clipped, and continued on his way to Aralis' house. So that's what that was about. Melend arrived and peeked in, expecting to see something like Lord Ostrich's glass shop. This murder hadn't disturbed the setting nearly as much, however. Just a light coating of metal dust and a pool of blood seeping out of the body in the corner. Melend grimaced. Cleo had been respectful, at least. That was saying something. He closed the door and walked back. Let's see who these savages blame the murder on this time. _______________________________________________________________ I don't have a whole lot to say about this last night cycle except "dang it". I guess we all sort of knew that Wilson's death was coming eventually, though. I kind of wonder why she wasn't lurching herself. Who are the "experienced players" who are left? I thought I heard Wilson say a few cycles that she's pretty sure they have an experienced player on their team.
  5. 1: Superheroes with a color in their name 2: Fictional characters whose names start with "K" 3: Named weapons in fantasy 4: Movie titles that contain the word "back" 5: Arc numbers Without looking it up, name 5 foods that have a country in their name (eg. American Cheese)
  6. Yeah. It always seems to be sticking its branches where it doesn't belong. And just when we thought we were "tree" of it. It just needs to "leave" us alone. I'll be here all week, folks.
  7. I'm pretty sure that the effects of allomancy are determined by the timbre of the metal being burned. The chemical composition factors into that, but it's not actually what's channeling the power.
  8. I found it kind of funny when I first read it, but I was actually pretty surprised to find out how popular it was in-forum when I first came here. Moreover, Kobold King is completely incorrect. The idea that bending oneself to society's rules is painful or undesirable goes strongly against the overall theme of The Stormlight Archive. In fact, I'd argue that this motif is weakened by The Stick's obstinance. Instead of this rebellious character being shown in a positive light, Stick is consistently shown throughout the book (through metaphor) as a negative character. A bad Samaritan, if you will. When Stick refused to assist Shallan in her hour of need, the slavers, the ultimate symbols of giving in to society's moral deprecation, did. Remember that, and don't make ridiculous, unfounded assumptions regarding literary themes.
  9. You want talk? I'll RP. How about that? I've been meaning to do it for some time. _____________________________________ Melend gasped! There was a ghost! In his hotel room! "...talk more, and find the Spiked!" The ghost continued. "Avenge my death before the Koloss arrive! Oh, and don't break my glass. I'm watching..." Melend gaped as the spirit ascended to the heavens in all its glory. Whu... Talk more? But it was the middle of the night! Melend added ghosts to his running list of things he hated. Mist-cursed things don't make any sense. Ghosts still couldn't hold a candle to skaa allomancers, of course. Always running around, killing random people. It was a disgrace! Things had been heating up since the incident in the tavern. There were multiple messaging networks going about town, and so much blue text that you could've painted Melend's entire mansion with it. And that was saying something. The skaa were surprisingly efficient. That didn't imply competence, however, as they still hadn't found any saboteurs. Melend was beginning to suspect that the entire thing was simply skaa foolishness. What kind of mist-cursed idiot would want a Koloss invasion anyway? (Oh, right, they're skaa. Who knows with them.) Ashette's death had been sobering. She had been a decent person. Humble (by noble standards), brave (by noble standards), and kind (by noble standards). Her situation paralleled his own, in a way. Melend, of course, was even humbler, braver, and kinder than anyone he knew. He was smart, too, so there was no way he'd get hacked to death by savages in this Lord-Ruler-forsaken town just to be some martyr. Melend checked his pocketwatch. Almost morning. Let's see who those fools killed this time...
  10. But surely they'd contacted some people they'd checked out. And they'd probably have seeked Wilson at some point.
  11. Steelheart has no way to escape from one of Prof's forcefield bubbles. All Prof would have to do is trap him for a few days and Steelheart would die of dehydration. Prof would win handily. The only reason Prof didn't do that in book 1 is that strong forcefields (not to mention healing himself instantly) are very aggravating for him and to trap Steelheart he would certainly have had to use a pretty powerful one.
  12. Okay. Surely someone has seeked Wilson by now. Could they just have someone from their network state what they found? I'd like some closure on this issue.
  13. Because there's some pretty powerful voting manipulation potential here, and we need to stack each lynch as much as possible.
  14. I know. I'm not asking for real proof. I'm just wondering if this is pure speculation (which, no matter how experienced the person is, is basically as effective as having a troop of drunk orangutans throwing darts at a billboard with everyone's profile picture, then having a blind man interpret the results.) I'm starting to sympathize.
  15. Well, this might sound like bandwagoning, but we need to be decisive as a village to counter the vote manipulations, so I'll vote for Ash as well.
  16. Well, you have a lot of upvotes for only getting here yesterday. I'm fairly certain that Surgebinding deals with manipulating the spren that control the Realmatic laws of nature. A Surgebinder "manipulates" these spren by bribing them with Stormlight, using a Nahel-bonded spren as a sort of middleman. I'm not sure if you were asking for an explanation, or...
  17. Wilson. Do you actually have some sort of evidence against Ash, or is it really just suspicion?
  18. Nevermind. I'm not voting for Hero after all (especially if Wilson thinks otherwise). If Ostrich wasn't an eliminator, then pretty much all of my conclusions fall apart. I now suspect that the vote change from Ostrich to Maill was the one done by a random villager, and so wasn't done deliberately. -Wyrm soothed: Other than the obvious-but-probably-incorrect conclusions here (him being Mistborn), this could have been either a villager action used somewhat randomly or a clumsy spiked action to try and make Wyrm look like a Mistborn. -Vote change from Ostrich to Hero: I'm still pretty convinced that this was done by the eliminators, though for the life of me I wouldn't know why. There is really no point in trying to save a villager. Unless it was supposed to make the villagers waste a lynch. -Vote change from Hero to Maill: It could have been done to tie everything up, which would mean that there was no lynch. Since it was in the eliminators' best interest to get Ostrich lynched, though, I'd say that this was just random interference from someone else.
  19. Well, I'll admit that nothing short of a seeker checking someone is real proof, but this is the sort of thing I've been waiting for all game. I hate circumstantial evidence because it's practically random, but serious vote manipulation is real and analyze-able. That's why I wrote a big post and everything. I guess I trust that Wilson has more info than me, though. I'm kind of out of the loop, PM-wise. I'd be interested in know why she trusts Hero, and I'd definitely defer to her judgment if that reason was good. That doesn't mean I can't try to figure things out for myself in the meantime.
  20. I was responding to your December 16 post, where you speculated that the kandra would have to take the form of an animal.
  21. Like, musical band?
  22. Very well. I officially change my wording to "spared" (instead of "saved"). You were spared when you probably wouldn't have been if either you hadn't been an eliminator or the "Hero-to-Maill" riot wasn't done by a villager. It's not bulletproof reasoning, I suppose, but it's decent. More importantly, it's the only really good lead we've had since the start of the game.
