  1. A question: how hard is it for Heartless to survive on the ground? Is the land completely barren?
  2. The bus doesn't explode. Once the fuel runs out, it will shrink back down into a rock, and trust me you do not want to be inside the bus when that happens.
  3. *is thinking that Event Horizon and Aura should get out of that bus soon *
  4. *is confirming Voidus' suspicions*
  5. I can try . Most of them are very rough so far. Empowering plants give you power. Using them takes little-to-no effort on your part The Power plant is the most mysterious of the known plants. There are very few specific regions where it grows, and in those regions only one grows throughout the entirety of Nightseason. Once taken down to be used, that's it. The Power plant gives people the ability to use one or more of the other plants (not entirely sure on how the specific ones are chosen yet). Strength empowers humans. It's pretty self explanatory. Growth empowers other plants, also pretty self explanatory (it could theoretically be used to grow an additional Power plant for the season) (again, ideas are rough.) Demanding plants require energy from you. Most people find themselves tired after using them (and very tired after the Transportation plant). Teleportation does what it says--teleports. It is incredibly exhausting to use, and a user must be very skilled with it to use it without falling unconscious as soon as they reach their destination. Health can heal you and others. Anything can be healed by using it (except for fatal blows). Again, very tiring. Pain can inflict pain on yourself and others. The pain others feel is worse than the pain you feel, and the pain is what qualifies the plant as "demanding." The Empowering and Demanding plants can be used on both yourself and another person, if you crush the plant in your hands and rub the oil on another person (that's why the Pain plant isn't useless ) Self plants affect yourself. Time allows the user to manipulate time--slow it, speed it up, stop it, time travel, etc. It can only affect themselves Wisdom mostly helps the user in decision making. It will help nudge the user to the more beneficial decision for themselves. Sociability helps the user become more socially adept. Perks include better at negotiating, interacting with people, and making friends. Others plants affect others. Compulsion allows the user to control a single other person per leaf. Its effects don't last long, but the target will do anything but do something that could kill themselves while in your control. Repulsion pushes things away from the spot where the plant/oil touches. The range and strength depends on the strength of the user and the plant. Attraction is the opposite of Repulsion. Self and Others plants don't give you additional energy, but don't demand a bunch either.
  6. I love it! Make it so!
  7. Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I will be taking all of these into consideration (yes even the TREEDIS one ) In the meanwhile, there is now an attatchment to the first post that has all the plant power on it. The ones with dotted outlines that are grayed out are ones that have not been discovered by the time the book takes place.
  8. Summary of the latest Reader post: He can dish it out, but he can't take it.
  9. Reader was getting increasingly annoyed by these twins. First they'd walked right in like they owned the place. Then they'd smashed his expensive wine goblet. Now they were threatening to smash him with his own desk. He'd had just about enough. As Alison finished cleaning out Steven's wound, Reader leaned forward and stared at each of the twins in turn. "My boss does not care one sparking bit what happens to any of you. As for the desk...I wish you good luck in trying it on your way out. Guards, take these two in." The soldiers advanced on the suddenly-more-scared Epic twins. They yanked the girls up by their arms and dragged them to the door. "Make sure to close the door on your way out!" Just like every manager they'd ever had had said to them. Reader turned to Steven. "Now you," he said to him, "may be of use to us here in the Dalles. Tell me what you know. And don't lie." Reader tapped his pistol. "You know what happens when you lie."
  10. Timeport was flung to the floor. Before him, Corpsemaker seemed to grow in size, towering over Timeport, just a new little minor Epic who had no idea how to treat his betters Stupid, stupid, stupid! he yelled at himself. Corpsemaker crouched over him, resting his hands on his knees. "Now then. I will let you work for me. And if you prove yourself loyal, I will reward you handsomely. But you just admitted to betraying your long-time friends and allies. So you're going to have to work very hard to prove your sincerity." Timeport wanted to say that the Reckoners had never been his friends, he'd always planned to betray them, but his mouth was suddenly very dry. He had to stop himself from squeaking like a little girl as the Epic who could kill him with a glance leaned over him. Corpsemaker stood up straight, and Timeport breathed a quiet sigh of relief. Though he was still sparking scared, Corpsemaker hadn't killed him. "The rest of you would do good to remember this lesson. 'A little trust goes a long way. The less you use, the further you'll go. Now get back to work." He reached back down to grab Timeport's collar and lifted him up. "Now, what exactly is Sightline's weakness, and how did you learn of it?" Timeport swallowed as he looked into Corpsemaker's eyes. Eyes that could kill him at any instant. "G-Glasses," he said, stuttering. "Sightline's weakness is glasses. The R-Reckoner's informant, G-Gordon, told me." His breaths were shaky. "And the Reckoners were never my friends. I-I always planned to betray them, hoping that maybe Ca..." Timeport lost his voice. He turned away from Corpsemaker's eyes. Though it would probably make the Epic more angry, Timeport couldn't stand looking into them anymore. When his voice finally returned to him, he spoke quickly. "Hoping that maybe Calamity would bless me if I betrayed His enemies." Mommy was very grateful for her nose. Because, without it, she would have died from suffocation. As the "Baron von Shtiekelvurst" continued his rant at her, Mommy was torn on how she should feel. On one hand, these two Epics had captured her and wrapped her in duct tape, which she did not appreciate, but on the other, they were both so ridiculous she would've laughed had duct tape not covered her mouth. "Remove zee duct tape at vonce!" the Baron shouted. Mommy felt a stab of pain as the duct tape was removed, and as soon as it was, she cleaned the remnants of the stickiness off of her face just by thinking about it. "Zat kannot be komfortable. I am sorry, Schultz is a bit of an idiot sometimes. Anyvay, your explanation can vait, I vill take you to zat Refill unt show him how brave I vas." Come along, you too Schultz. Uuuunt, MARCH! Left, left, left right left!" They forced Mommy to walk down the hall. Mommy complied, though she had to fight against the increasing panic that was rising up inside of her. If they were doing this to her...what were they doing to the children? She pushed away the thought of her precious children being wrapped in duct tape and towed away somewhere horrible, somewhere-- The Baron knocked on the assistant principal's office door and waited. Mommy wondered if "duct tape" counted as "dirty," and tried to clean herself off, but to no avail. The office door swung open, and a flustered-looking man stepped out. "What is the meaning of this interruption?" He looked down at Mommy. "Who is this?" "Hello," Mommy said. "I would shake your hand, though I'm a bit stuck at the moment. I'm Mommy. And that shirt of yours looks dreadfully dirty." She wasn't usually this confident, but she had to show some initiative if she wanted in on the Minor Epic Empire. She looked down at his shirt and cleaned it. Suddenly, it looked like it had just been pressed and washed. "Also, could you let my children know that I'm alright? I'd hate for them to have to worry."
  11. Yeah Timeport's not the wisest person ever. Since he's new, he's taking every chance he can to show off his powers. He also has problems with authority
  12. Should Reader go next in the Dalles or wait for Backtrack's response?
  13. "This information of your better be good, if you want to join me. Especially seeing as you used to be a Reckoner.” Timeport almost had to stop himself from giggling in excitement. Corpsemaker was giving him a chance! He could join the Epic's faction, take down Thoughttown and the new Empire of Light, then move on to the rest of Oregon and eventually the entirety of the Fractured States! He took in a breath--stop it you haven't proven yourself yet--and looked up at Corpsemaker. He could've killed me at any moment. But he hasn't. Feeling more confident, Timeport straightened his back and looked him in the eye. "You have no need to worry, as my betrayal is sound. I no longer work for the Reckoners--I killed one of my former coworkers less than an hour ago--as I am now an Epic." To prove it, Timeport transported behind Corpsemaker. He seemed stunned, then whipped around when Timeport started talking again. "I know where every hub in Portland and the surrounding area is, I've been in every one of them. And I know of each and every other hub in the state. I also know the weakness of one of the Epics in Thoughttown, Sightline, I believe." He teleported back to the other side of Corpsemaker. "And if you'd like me to tell you everything, I'd gladly accept the offer to join your side."
  14. The zombie Elantrians after the Reod. Can they be felt by BioChromantic Lifesense?
  15. Fortunately for him, after he dies again from being in the wall, he resurrects outside of it
  16. Buzz lightyear must've been a Windrunner. "It's not flying. It's just falling--with style!"
  17. I look forward too it
  18. Joe has it right. I'll just do a longer post where I go from the other Timeport's perspective when he meets himself, then have him appear back in the armory. What are you talking about that's not all he says:
  19. Someone appeared at the door--Timeport didn't know who. It wasn't CorpseMaker, they had plenty of pictures of him, but someone else. He opened the doors and beckoned for Timeport to follow him. He led Timeport down into the armory, and eventually found a big room with a group of people doing...something. Timeport recognized Corpsemaker talking to another Epic, and someone was sitting in the corner writing stuff furiously on a piece of paper. Timeport headed down to Corpsemaker. "Hello Corpsemaker," he said; it looked like his conversation with the other Epic was finishing up. "I'm Timeport. And I used to work with the Reckoners. I know everything about them, and everything they know."
  20. Thanks I don't understand the first question.... As for the other two, I haven't quite delved that far into specifics, but for the first one I'm inclined to go with no, just to keep the system simple . As for the second, maybe that's possible. Oooh, I like the way you're thinking. Maybe the different forms of certain plants can grant the user different effects relating to the base effect. The special thing about these plants is that they don't need light. In fact, they wither if sunlight touches them. I was thinking along the lines of "that's what makes them magical, their magical properties sustain them without sunlight." Of course, during Lightseason regular, food plants are grown, but the planet has adapted because of half a year of darkness and has these magic plants. But I like the way you're going about things, that these places are the places people fight over.
  21. I don't think that the Lord Ruler let her win, rather, Ruin and Preservation let her win. Think about it. Preservation knew what Vin was going to do (help save the world), and Ruin knew she'd release him from his prison, so both of them wanted the Lord Ruler out of the way. If Vin had not had both gods working for her, she would not have beaten the Lord Ruler.
  22. Okay so my magic system is basically this: It's plant-based. It's set on a world that doesn't spin, so one scientific day equals one year. The plants only grow during Nightseason, and will wither if sunlight ever touches them. Different types of plants do different things when eaten, and I was thinking that people had to be born with the ability to use them to be able to use them. I only have a few ideas on what the certain plants can do so far: Attract: Things are attracted to your palms. Anything within a certain distance of your palm will go towards it Repel: Opposite of Attract Time: Allows travel through time (one of the rarest plants) Transportation: Allows travel through space. Healing: Heals yourself, and can be used to heal others. Ideas that I've had for making it not Allomancy: Instead of eating the plant, you have to crush the leaf in your hand (which makes sense, as the magic could be the liquid stuff inside the leaf, and if you rub it on your palm then things start to happen.), not making paired plants, not making it exactly 16 types of plants. What do you think? EDIT: Now there's a diagram! The grayed out and dashed boxes are plants that have not been discovered as of the time of the story. Drawing here:
