  1. Poor Dalinar finally got something to eat his meal with. Nevermind any assassins :-)
  2. Hey, Pattern even thought about marrying Adolin . He keeps on being completly clueless even though he's practically spying on everone in private. Maybe he should talk more to SHallan about those things... Which would result in a lot of embarassing (read: funny) moments Oooops sorry for double post
  3. And what instigted all of that was a copycat murder of some other lighteyed officer, named Vedekar Perel, from Sebarial’s army.
  4. It really makes for a compelling, yet very tragic, idea. If it is the case, then there will very likely be (more or less subtle) clues throughout the book. But at the moment we simply do not have enough information/chapters on that.
  5. Didn't the Parshendi say something like they fled from their gods and abandoned the powerful forms of old (bonding no more Voidspren)? Maybe the connection was only severed from those carrying any sort of Voidform, resulting in breaking their connection. Which in this case would have been the vast majority. The Parshendi didn't use those forms for so long that they've become legend, but are technically able to assume them again.
  6. Go for FMAB It's a bit confusing at first (heck, at that point I've read the whole manga and have watched FMA), but that was probably because of that aforementioned anime only episode at the beginning.
  7. Radiant + Squires Boot Camp Urithiru (probably a bit farther off, but well... ): let's be honest, they all need a lot more training. Not just honing their own abilities, but knowing about other's abilties and how to use them in conjunction with each other. Like... A race through Urithiru's corridors for Friction users, with strategically positioned Gravitation users to send them to the walls and ceilings. Initiator: Lift ;-) Or a self help group for newly arrived Radiant Spren, to (try to) answer any questions about humans, rekindle old animosities (or discover more common ground), discussing inappropiate things (mathematical as well as the "other" sort (lecture held by Pattern)) as well as how to best play tricks on unassuming humans (hey, you can't work all the time). On a more serious note: I really want to see them overcome some of Vorinism's... let's call them limitations. Men not being able to read and write can be potentially disastrous. Kaladin is sending a Glyph each day to indicate that he's still alive when he cannot find a random woman to write and read his messages? On the other hand, there are going to be more than just a few women who will find themselves with legendary weapons without any clue how to use them. Pointy end into the enemy won't be enough of an advice. Adolin teaching Shallan is a good start at least.
  8. I haven't read A Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, but I'd like to recommend you two other books: One is a first in a series of four by Alison Croggon, called either The Naming or The Gift (depending on where you live, otherwise look for Pellinor 1). From Wikipedia (because I'm horrible at summarising things up): The Gift (also published as The Naming) begins with Maerad, in "Gilman's Cot" as a slave, where she has been for many years, with few memories of her former life, her mother having died several years before. She is discovered by Cadvan, one of the great mystics known as 'Bards', who reveals to her that she, like him, possesses "the Gift" shared by all of these, by which she is able to command nature to do her will. The other one is called Uprooted by Naomi Novik, a fantastical coming of age story, friendship, magic and finding different paths to follow. (She has also written the Temeraire Series, which is about the Napoleonic wars, just with Dragons, if that is more up your alley).
  9. I'm laughing so hard at the moment Pattern, you are wonderful (maybe not in terms of being a chaperone, but you could still apply as a Math teacher).
  10. As we don't know Gly's type of spren yet, he could theoretically also have one of the non-binary genders. (Either due to age or his spren-type being viewed und therfore influenced more by the Parshendi.) Maybe they are like the Parshendi's genders? I don't recall Renarin ever being really interested in anyone, but with Adolin next to him, who used to be constantly skirt chasing... He might just have been shy though.
  11. Actually, it would be rather good to have a "real" (or at least trained) surgeon among the ranks of the healers of the KR. As we can see already, Stormlight is not a permanently accessible source. Between the highstorms or during the weeping the probability to run out of it is rather high, especially if there are going to run more KR around using it up. In such a situation having a person around who can distinguish between someone being treatable by conventional means (and thereby saving Stormlight for more dire cases) should come in pretty handy. With (eventually) war coming up, and magic being used on both sides, casualties and injuries will rise. All the more Stormlight will become a sought after resource. Best to substitute it with conventional means where those will do too.
  12. I'm done too, the moderated questions were more in the direction of writing tipps, introduction of the Cosmere (*surprise surprise*) and what motivated him to start writing. Those questions and answers are very probably all around already
  13. I listened to the audio again and fixed some small mistakes. Seems like I overheard a he'd or confused it with he's. Sorry And I finally finished the the transcription of the third signing in Leipzig (the first at the book fair). Here you go:
  14. I'm pretty sure he ment the space-faring triology. He only called it the last Mistborns. Definatley plural. After that he pondered about the possibility of Yolen maybe being involved later on.
  15. Oh sorry, of course you're right. It's in spoiler tags now, but I cannot do anything about the quoted remark. Is the rest of the discussion acceptable? I think that was one of @hypatia's questions, maybe she can clarify.
  16. I fully agree with you, but that's what makes speculating about such tiny details fun. They might not play an important part in the overall story, but rather give feeling and atmosphere to it. Without all of that, the books and their worlds wouldn't seem so real. And if they don't get answered eventually... Well, either Brandon has something in his notes that didn't fit into his oh-so-short books (no complaint here though), or one can have his one headcanon
  17. Well, it's not as much as a theory as wild speculation And getting mixed up is easy, way too many teensy weensy details to remember
  18. @maxal It's been a pleasure. I'll probably finish the second signing tomorrow (my timezone^^). I'm still not entirely convinced that it's just a normal Sharblade, which makes it exceptional and special on its own as they are all that. Those glyphs are really bothering me, but I don't have any justified ideas just yet. An unbased speculation could contain that the sword is either connected to one of the founders or first Radiants as an organisation as we know them from the legends, or (just a random idea) that it could be Nohadon's sword, if he actually was a Surgebinder. Not sure if he even was one, and as I said just wild theorising into the blue
  19. Lesung Leipzig 24.3.2017 - Schille Theater - Signings
  20. @maxal: It was titeled as a peek into Oathbringer, and recently written. So my guess would be that it's something that will be added in the fourth draft. Maybe it is part of the interludes, or some added/fleshed out part after the beta reads. And thankfully longer than just one page ^^ Anyway, more Adolin in November, yay
  21. I don't mind doing it at all, but I rather prioritise the more specific questions at the signings right now. I'll probably get to it in the evening or tomorrow.
  22. Are you covering all the tidbits he was asked on the panel too? If yes, then I'll continue transcribing the questions from the answer sessions. I unfortunatly don't have a PC right now, so I'll have to transfer it later from my handwritten notes. (And sorry for the double post^^)
  23. He read exactly one page from Oathbringer. The scents of horses reminded Adolin of his youth, sweat and manure and hay. Good scents, real scents. He'd spent many of these days before he was fully a man on campaign with his father during border skirmishes in Jah Keved. Adolin had been afraif of the animals back then, though he never admitted it. They were so much faster, so much more intelligent than (Shells?). So alien. Creatures all covered in hair, which made him shiver to touch, with big, glassy eyes. Those had'nt been even real horses. For all their pedigree breeding, the horses they (brought) on campaign they'd just been regular Shin Thoroughbreds. Expansive, yes, but by definition therefore not priceless. Not like the creature before him now. Brandon: "Not going on here, too many spoilers." That was exactly one page, written in Krakau shortly before he came to Germany.
  24. I recorded the evening question session, and I will post the transcript sometime next week. Loosely paraphrasing my questions/answers: Concerning the Division Surge: it is about breaking molecular bonds. Splitting atoms/nuclei would be waaaay to powerful, as he actually explored it in Dragonsteel. That somehow slipped out accidentally (or at least it seemed like that to me). Cohesion and Tension: there is a difference, and RAFO. But the working together of two Surges seems to lead to different results for orders with differetly paired Surges. Silverlight is actually a city where normal people live. He laughed at me asking whether getting there is enough of an application to get in. Need to listen to his anwer again for more details. Got another RAFO with some interesting tidbits: All Bondsmiths never had Shards. I'd interpret that as all three Spren are still around and not in dead/Blade form. There's also something going on with Sunraiser, Elokhar's Blade. Being etched with all 10 fundamental glyphs seems to be connected to something. And we'll be getting some more backstories of some Shardblades in the future.
