  1. Dividing by zero ...... shattered Adonalsium. We have found the ultimate weapon: Math Problems!!!
  2. There's not just that... Alethkar now has officially an Heretic on the throne, and Dalinar was ex-communicated from Vorinism. Granted, with a new Desolation it's chull dung that half the population is not allowed to wield weapons, and the other half cannot even write a report by spanreed. But there are always some fanatics around who'd rather go down on someone acting against their belief instead of seeing the bigger picture :-( (Or, well, your usual fanatics who see the bigger picture and use it for their ends with complete disregard of anyone else... "Sons of Honor" )
  3. Granted, it was veeeeery late when I read it, but I kind of interpreted it as Moash becoming something... more. Not exactly a Fused, more like a new (as in not an old soul) Fused-Human hybrid. With Renarin bonding a Voidspren and still being on Honour's/Humanity's side, one of the Unmade trying to change sides, and a lot of Skybreakers on Odiums side (Not sure where to put Malata and Taravangian - imho the scales are shifting to Odium's side there) the whole system got jumbled up. To sum it up, I'd rather go with Moash/Vyre being a new hybrid form, without Moash dead/completely gone. @ original topic: Elhokar's death as a whole package. I really had high hopes for him :-(
  4. Are you into Science? If the answer is yes, try out BBC's Infinite Monkey Cage. A (particle) physicist and a comedian invite a varying panel of fellow scientists and comedians and discuss (and digress) different topics each time. Look out for astronauts, Higg's particles and the infamous Schrödinger's Strawberry! It's usually about half an hour long. Recommendable: I'm a chemist get me out of here, Where Quantum goes woo.
  5. Oh, thanks :-) It was reaaaaaaally late when I finished the book xD *gets the book out again*
  6. Done and dusted. Back to the beginning ;-) Some random thoughts in no real order: I absolutley loved the Shadesmar part. Now I really want to see the capital of the Honourspren sometime. Which Ideal will be next for Kaladin? It may have something to do with the people he couldn't save. Maybe it's accepting that he cannot save everybody? Or that prioritising the living comes first? As there are only two Ideals left for him, they should probably go into the direction of Leadership... "Which step is the most important to make? - The NEXT one." SA continues to help me get over more depressive days/phases. Who needs a therapist anyway^^ I've seldomly cursed and laughed that much during a book as I did during part 5. Sadeas 2.0: wow, it could get worse. How is Ialai going to top that? RIP Elokhar. It almost seems like Hoid got a small, swirly keepsake from him? DESTROY EVIL!!! UNITY! Bridge Four! certain ex-member of B4: Nooooo Yeeaaah(?*small glimmer of hope*) NOOOOOO STORM YOU Oh look whose control is finally slipping. In combination with the name, speech patterns and the Kata training: when do we get Warbreaker 2? Not enough Dustbringer action Does Venli count as Traitor now? Timbre is so sweet. Huh. That's going to get really complicated now, with people switching sides all over on top of all the secret societies. "Give me tha capacity to save the world." For whom and to which end? It sort of looks better for the native population at the moment.... Seems like not only the Heralds got out crazy after the gap between Desolations... Jasnah rocks. No, seriously. We have a new King of the Peaks (if they're still standing). Concerning kings: does anyone else think thaht Sebarial gets a new job and is going to hate it? (Waaaay too much work)
  7. Hmmm could that mean that Gloryspren are also Radiant Spren?
  8. Nothing but goosebumps while reading Kaladin's part. DAMNATION, I'm looking forward to the rest of the book. I'll just hole up in my bed and read it straight through And YAAAAAY the band's back together. Well, not exactly back but more as in everyone in the same place and (presumed) alive for the first time.
  9. Whooops, missed the new chapter for a whole hour. Don't you guys have daylight saving time too? Well, reading and commenting comes first, after that I'll read your opinions I'm really looking forward to that meeting of monarchs (probably over destroyed ancient Kholinar...). Hmmm have we seen Lyn before? Yay. Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated. Way to go Bridge 4 ^^ I'm really happy for Renarin, though. Ooooh those murals sure are interesting. Probably Honor and Cultivation? And all of the Radiant Bondspren? And I love the whole dynamic between Bridge 4, Adolin and Renarin as healer/support/diversion. Weeeell, seems like the internal Stormlight Powerbank has been found ^^
  10. The Stormstriders seem to be connected to Highstorms. Also, there seem to be more than one of the same sort. Aren't the Unmade unique, each with its own name and set of powers? If the Stormstriders are Voidspren or not...It just seems really strange to me that noone really seems to care about giant things walking around during Highstorm. Even if sensible people stay indoors, in a few thousand years there must have been a few more idiots going out. This should have sparked some interest....
  11. *shrug* There's still Cultivation. Science has Patterns, so Pattern is probably interested in that too (at least when there are no juicy lies around).
  12. And again we got just teensy weensy small bits about Dustringers. They like to make things explode, and the bonded Spren is called Sparks? @Steeldancer: Honorspren vs. Odiumspren: Matter vs. Antimatter: BOOOM
  13. Seems like it. Oh wow. There you go Adolin. At least this gets rid of a very akward conversation between Kal and Shallan. They still need to talk about it but weeeeell...
  14. Oh, that's no problem at all if it does not work out with another physical gift. All right, count me in ;-)
  15. Is it possible to gift a physical thing even though I'm in Europe? *has a few ideas in mind already* I have just no idea how long the mail needs to be delivered overseas.
  16. Thanks for the idea It probably won't survive lending it out, but after the last lending incident I'm opposed to do so again anyway. *grumbles about fat and chocolate spots on WoK*
  17. Stephanie Meyers is a no-go (or no-read^^) for me too. I'm mainly avoiding Wolfgang and Heike Hohlbein. Not because their books are inherently bad, it's just that I've read well over 40 of their books and... they tend to repeat in their tones. There are still a few gems inbetween, but every time I tried a new book it was just like some other book from them again.
  18. My main issue is with having the hardcover first edition of WoR, which is not canon anymore... xP In the long term I'll probably be ok with Brandon tweaking some things, but it's kind of akward to switch medium for a few scenes to get the "real" version. And I just love my hardcover doorstoppers/murdering weapons :-)
  19. Weeeell they have probably tried to keep tabs on him because they feared he would turn on them - Oathstone or not? If they haven't heard about his death yet, those orders could still be active. He is distinctive enough after all.
  20. Either Taravangian has one of his dullest (and most compassionate) days ever, or is on a whole other sphere of brilliant and just mocking everyone. It's funny either way
  21. Whoaaa Syl's evil twin is interested in Kal?!?
  22. Phew I have to go look for those passages in this case :-) Thanks for pointing that out. But they have to procure Stormlight in some fashion, otherwise the whole concept of the Knights being bunkered up somewhere without Stormlight in Wartime seems... off. Looking at the dimensions of the city, and if there really are no storms up in this spot, the amount of Stormlight needed would be way too high, even if Radiants would go out in Storms and pour it all into the City upon arrival. Or at least the amount of Radiants around at the moment. I really don't know how many Radiants were there at their peak. Three bondsmiths + 200 Windrunners/Stonewardens, assuming around a hundred full Radiants for each other order leaves me at 903-ish Radiants in total for a very crude approximation. Well, after so many years of disuse it could very well be broken. I concur, something fishy is going on there...
  23. There are a few things that got me thinking about Urithiru (with musings inbetween): The first glimpse we had at it was via Szeth's Interlude in WoR (page 708, hardcover): A bit later there's also that: Have Dalinar's people been able to pinpoint the exact location of Urithiru on a map? Otherwise those villagepeople are probably their best bet (aside from astronomers?) Anyway, here's the activation of the Oathgate in the Shattered Plains/Natanatan: (WoR, hardcover, page 1037) As far as we know, the connection between Natanatan and Urithiru is the only one still working. Maybe it's a bitt offtopic, but I cannot help but wonder if all routes went through Urithiru. Taxing-wise it would make sense, being the centre of instantaneous travel and all. Also, there are ten platforms in contrast to everywhere else only one. Jumping to the assumption that all the Fabrial rooms steering the Oathgates are of the same design, theoretically travel between any of them at the height of the Radiants' power should have been possible. According to the Coppermind wiki, spanreeds have been developed during the War of Reckoning following Gavilar's death. Assuming that they are rather a reinvention of a forgotten fabrial than a completely new one, coordination between cities and their oath gates should have been possible. Just image a very stressed out person with 10 spanreeds to attend to, going into control tower mode :-) For trade reasons the number of Oathgates in Urithiru is too high. Deployment of standing armed forces at any given moment to different locations on the other hand is a valid factor, whilst coordinating support at other locations. This brings me to another topic: Stormlight conservation. Operating Oathgates consumes high quantities of Stormlight. Going through them has drained to a degree Spheres and Fabrials both. During all the exploration scenes going on at the end of WoR and a bit in the already published Oathbringer chapters, I never found any mention of preinstalled lightning. Even if one entire side of the tower is made of glass, the tower itself is way to big for windows to be the sole means of illumination during daytime. And I'm not even speakting about nights So how were the Radiants of old able to go about their daily activies inside their city? Any plundering of the tower is highly unlikely, and if there had been gem-lamps (is there an official name for it? Stormlight lamps?) mounted on the walls throughout such a big structure, there would very likely been mentions of that. Such a fortune on the wall cannot be ignored during exploration. Now: no Stormlight illumination, no torches or lanterns (just think of the investment (no pun intended) to keep all of them supplied with oil.... There's this bit (at first maybe unconnected bit) from Oathbringer Chapter 21: The gems are the same ones they brought from the Shattered Planes, unaltered. In another thread I briefly mentioned that, and got a response from @RYANHOME suggesting the outside factor of the sudden increase in Stormlight conservation could be connected to the strata lines constantly being mentioned by Shallan. Coming back to the very first quote of Urithiru being a "holy place" to the Shin, and soulcast metal being the only acceptable form of metal to them as rock wasn't broken whilst procuring it, Urithiru very likely is Soulcast too. (Or was constructed by as of yet unknown other Surges - I'm thinking of Cohesion and Tension too) Therefore those Strata lines in the rock could very well be artificial. It's a bit of a jumping conclusion, but I could imagine them not just being some sort of directional signpost for Lightweavers (not everyone pays such close attention to detail after all), but two other important things at once: Stormlight storation and illumination. Just imagine the whole tower having veins of Stormlight infused ore running through the whole of it, maybe even working as a giant fabrial of itself (and as some kind of battery for all Radiants around). The downside of this speculation is the fact that after thousands of years of disuse, the tower should have had its fair share of Highstorms passing through. With no one to use up all that Investiture, it should all be fairly aglow now. But it is not. Of course, the fabrial could be broken, or there could be a correlation between Stormlight storage and Radiants present... Well, to less info on all of that Thanks for reading, and I hope I haven't accidentally repeated a lot of things previously discussed
  24. Still recovering from the national assembly election results here in Austria. At least they don't seem to get a 2/3 majority in parliament, but the far right and the right party have really gained a lot of momentum here. And to specify "far right": their leading candidate was openly greeted by some random guy at the polling station with a "Heil Hitler" (who was arrested immedeatly and was called confused). Nevertheless there are a lot of socalled single cases connecting them either to nazis or right student leagues. There are also close ties to LePen in France and AFD in Germany. And the strongest party followed suit on things like fear of foreigners... I just want to puke... At least we're just a really small and in comparison rather unimportant country, but still...
  25. If only a few non-Odiumspren bonded Parshendi were around... It's really weird that they still have Stormlight. If the timeline is proressing simultaneously along to Kaladin's, there should be another Highstorm during the next week. Apart from that: could something in Urithiru influence the Stormlight evaporation time / halflife time?^^ As they haven't altered anything about the spheres themselves, they should hold the same amount of Stormlight for the same time. My first guess would be something about the general environment. I wonder if any of the Fabrial researchers are already on to that phenomenon...
