How do you think first half of SA will end?
Quantus replied to Kelevra's topic in Stormlight Archive
Shards dont do well without Vessels, at best they run the risk of gaining sentience on their own, which I think would be worse (best case is that the Stormfather would end up Ascending on his own, and a Shard that is at his core a massively destructive Thunderstorm would be harsh at best). And I think it would be in Character for Cultivation to Cultivate a candidate, rather than leave it to chance. Why would you think that? Sazed was, and had plenty of POV chapters. Personally, Im in the camp that think Dalinar is already doing it, and will reinterpret Honor as Unity. I think you underestimate her, but then Im a big fan of the Engineer of the team. Never said Odium would be changed to that degree, just that Rayse (the person) may not survive the first half. At best I think the next Vessel will find a different rationalization and not try to convince themselves that it's Passion, but at least they likely wont have the same opinions about the need to go killing off all the rest of the Shards to be Top Dog. And I agree that Moash would not be a whole lot better for anyone, but he's the most likely (or maybe just least unlikely) candidate that Ive seen so far. Thought @Calderis's Ialai Sadeas suggestion is interesting, but so far I think Moash is more likely by virtue of receiving more backstory, explanation, and development. Because it's a big ol' godly Intent, not just some measly objective. I always capitalize the Intents themselves (Ruin, Honor, Harmony) so it seems right to capitalize the indefinite case; the mistake in that sentence was not capitalizing it the second time. Though admittedly I do have a bad habit of capitalizing random words for vague emphasis. I usually dont even notice I'm doing it until I look back and realize half the sentence is capitalized. -
Haha! Ill admit, that took me a minute...

It also depends on your actual definition of Immortal: Returned can always Starve to Death, Atium Compounding is still Finite for several reasons, etc. And from a certain POV Flairing Cadmium could get you pretty close, but you will miss a lot of the cool stuff.

Also worth noting that they'd get more options out of Hemalurgy than most, on account of having fluid Bind Points.

For what it's worth I suspect the reason that Windrunner Resonance effect of getting more Squires is along similar lines Spiritual Adhesion (Connection) use of the surge we see with Bondsmiths. Thought it likely has a Spiritual Gravitation spin on it, something along the thematic lines of magically reinforced charisma that draws follower to them. On a purely physical level, if it's truly "The Surge of Pressure and Vacuum" then there could be the possibility of some serious mechanical compression effects, especially if combined with Gravitation. Ever see a comic book gravity villain turn a person into a soccer ball? If not you should really check out the last season of Agents of Shield...

Either that or a lot of rather unpleasant stomach purging...

Since duralumin has no actual effects on its own, it wouldnt be a particularly easy thing to test for. The only tangible effect I can think of is that the metal would still eventually burn off, but it would be hard to tell the difference between having no actual ability and an amateur simply failing to burn that time. And Duralumin burns at a slow and steady rate, not in a burst like the other metals, further complicating any test protocol

It's a relatively far-fetched (and mostly thematic) thing, but the whole nature of Cultivation is for things to grow and change, it would drive the holder to avoid any kind of long-term stasis, and thus be more open to Cultivating a heir/successor. I entirely think she has a goal of Cultivating a successor for the Honor Shard, so why not one for her own. She may choose to retire and live on as a Sliver, perhaps go Worldhopping. Or she may choose to follow Tanavast into the Beyond. But for basically the same reasons you are saying that Navani will Die if Dalinar does, I think Cultivation is going to move on to whatever she decides will be her new stage in life. The Intent of the Shard is what it is, but the Interpretation of that intent (as well as how well the person resists it's influence) makes a lot of difference. Sazed could be interpreting Harmony very differently, just as Ati could have with Ruin. The Vessel's Personality Filters the Intent. And then there's the fact that shards can ad do drive their Vessel's Crazy over time, which is going to have a big effect, and I think arguments could be that Rayse is pretty darn crazy (though he also may have started that way) -
Welcome! You say you are in a new country, out of curiosity where are you living now? Im always curious to hear how far and wide the community is spread.

Rayse Dies, Somebody else (maybe Moash) takes up the Odium Shard. Dalinar fully ascends to the Honor Shard, rebranding it Unity. Having finally accomplished those two things, Cultivation retires (may or may not choose to die Go Beyond) and voluntarily gives the Cultivation Shard to somebody new (Im guessing either Navani to pair with Dalinar, or a Singer to balance the Human perspective of Unity). -
Well, from the filtered list @Scion of the Mists posted, the most recent time he's specifically said "there are three Shards involved in Roshar." was 2016, he just specifically refuse to say (in that same WOB) whether the fact that there were three Shards and three Bondsmith spren was cooincidence or not. But then, there were three distinct Magics and only Two shards on Scadrial, so there's at least as much possibility that the Sibling is the "balance" point of the two similar to how Feruchemy is described as a blending of Preservation and Ruin. So, sure, the possibility remains that all the spren can be keeping it a secret both now and in the past when Vivenna was worldhopping, and there can be another embargo force at the point that nobody mentioned when they were being asked what their perpendicularity options were. It just feels like more and more of a stretch towards tinfoil to me.

I dont think that would be very definitive, given how the rest of the town viewed them she'd have had plenty of drive to eliminate any accent that would set her apart.
-
I have no proof but I strongly suspect this is in reference to the (so far) unique condition of Autonomy being spread among multiple vessels/Avatars. If they are aware of it, they are actively hiding that fact from Worldhoppers like Vivenna, which I dont think would make much sense. They'd told her about Cultivation's Perpendicularity at the Horneater's Peaks, and even about the "other one" that moves and is more dangerous. Also, for what it's worth there was also no indication that Odium's forces were amassing at the Purelake the way they were at the Peaks, and Id have to assume they would lay siege to any and all stable perpendicularities.

Granted. They are all now insufferable know-it-all's I wish for a relaxing vacation. -
For what it's worth, Tanavast certainly thought that Odium would be bound by his given word, according to the Visions that first introduced Dalinar to the idea of a Champion he said that they all were (presumably meaning all Shards). But then, Tanavast had also apparently forgotten that Humans have a tendency to Change their Minds (especially in the face of Torture) so we may have to take his opinion with a grain of salt, he could be projecting his own perspective/interpretation on things.

The purelake actively empties itself when a highstorm is coming, and the residents just wedge themselves into an exposed ridge. It's theoretically possible for that to happen more or less naturally due to a massive air pressure change that would accompany the highstorm, but Im guessing it's a least partly caused by something in the spren ecosystem. Id say there's a good chance the lake itself has its own Spren. Either way could concievably be cleaning/flushing the crem before it has time to harden and build up

Mandrae it is! I vaguely recall Pattern saying something about considering 'Dividing by Zero' to be a mathematical lie. Im curious what he thinks of the Imaginary unit
-
Just for that, from here on out Im going to pluralize Madra as Mandrae You arent wrong, and that's by far the weakest connection in the conglomerate of theories, and is a lot of why Im ambivalent over whether it would be them or some related Lesser spren (creationspren or Logicspren maybe?). The only thing making me jump to that connection (other than Cryptics being one of the two Spren types that provide Soulcasting) is that they mentioned being distinct from some of the others as only having a single City. Well, that and the idea of Soulcasting being an application of "Lies" in a very thematic similar sense to Forgery. It would make as much sense for them to be the Elsecaller Inkspren that seem to be thematically all about Understanding things logically, except perhaps that they dont seem to be big fans of Change. And so far I dont think we have any indication that any spren are morally opposed to Soulcasters the way many are to dead Shardblades, so a lesser spren in Soulcasters is probably more likely than either Inkspren or Cryptics, though all would be theoretically vulnerable to it if an Unmade is. True, but we do have a WOB that says Truthspren would be a reasonably accurate way to describe them.
