That's why I think the Fabrial route is probably more likely, since it's already a PR device built to create that single specific effect, which feels easier to plug into other power sources. We have been told that Fabrial will eventually become a generic cosmere term for Investiture device, though we have also been told that hacking Investiture out of the Metallic Arts is more complicated than most.

That will almost certainly depend on how the 'hack' goes down. Allomancy doesnt really provide any storage mechanism, while its innate with feruchemy. Stormlight is harder to define because it arrives in the physical realm independently, so they appear at least to be less compatible. So for example, one easier route might be hacking Medallions into a Soulcaster fabiral, which might be able to channel the Investiture in to the separate device (since both utilize metal as Investiture conduits and/or controls), but that would likely be at the cost of flexibility the way fabrials typically are, in this case loosing any ability to intercept the Investiture between the two. On the other hand, if you were to pull it off by say handing an Investiture Medaillion to the radiant Spren, that might hack the Medallion's granted ability into the Nahel Bond and let the Preservation Link fuel the Radiant abilities, which could instead allow the normal range of control and customization.

I think "Corrupted" in this case is a matter of perspective to some extent. All other Rosharan spren have some ratio mix of Honor and Cultivation per WOB. Glys has three instead of two, but whether that's "Corruption" necessarily or now allowed as the the result of Odiums increase Investment in Roshar, harder to say. Consider: They mention in OB that there are two kinds of Voidspren those that look "of golden light, others are red shadows" (OB ch. 102), I think the older voidspren are the red shadows from before he was this Invested while the Golden Light ones are newer. This would mirror how the older Spren have 4 genders from before humanity's arrival. So in that sense a "corrupted" spren is just as spren that has Investiture of all three Invested Shards of the world. That being said, I do really like the OP's idea, it has a lot of promise from both a realmic and story perspective.

I tend to agree with @Calderis that the 'Normy' in the party is going to eventually become too outclassed to hang in fights with the full Radiants and Heralds and whatnot. Ive seen it before with other stories and while talented writers have done creative and interesting things with those sorts of characters, but they still very often end up sidelined or sacrificed to plot, or else thy start really stretching credulity. They get sacrificed to plot (literally or figuratively), logically but sadly sidelined, or turned into a Mary/Marty Sue that's more of a burden than their actually worth in the given situation (getting saved or carried or escort-quested around). So while I do fully expect Maya to be revived (simply because she's laying so much groundwork for the possibility) I could very much support something new different. Random spit-balling possibilities: She is revived, but Renarin does it with Regrowth (while in shadesmar) rather than being the result of a Bond. She is back and a friend but understandably refuses to actually Bond again. He revives her, but she is not capable of a full Radiant Bond, which gives him something stunted and more akin to a Squire's level of power, maybe basic stormlight but no surges Navani Industries starts getting really innovative with combat Fabrials now that they have Dawnchant translations and living Heralds to talk to. Adoline maintains his general role of Battle Commander, but does so with Plate and various Fabrial Augmentations. Im picturing an Experimental Gravitation belt that he absolutely HATES being drafted to test, and not just because he crashes a lot (in front of a laughingly critical Bridge Four). She is revived with Breaths by a certain Scholar, and all kinds of trans-shardic shenanigans result... Adolin reveals previously unexplored talent as a battle commander (Desolations have made larger changes to folks), changes his Calling, and manages to stay relevant in a pure leadership capacity as the Command Tent sort rather than the field battalion Shardbearer. Which would be really cool with his brother the Prescient Field Medic at his side in the tents. You could even call the battle of Theylend Field foreshadowing when he gave his blade to that other shardbearer. Also, as a barely relevant Wheel of Time comparison . Adoline steps back from battle and becomes a gender-role-defying family man, raising Gavnor and his own future children with Shallan (who as Radiant and researcher is more the carrier woman of the pair). He is relevant in a plot and character way, but steps back from the active combat. Depending on how much of the rest of the conflicts happen on the battlefield vs the conference table, this could go either way.

Oh, ok. I thought you had a specific theory for how to accomplish the Hack but couldn't for the life of me figure out how it could possibly rely on being specifically a coinshot.

Birds of Prey (& Harley Quinn)
Quantus replied to Use the Falchion's topic in Entertainment Discussion
First trailer I saw for this movie had me a little nervous because the rest of the "birds" got like 2.5 seconds of screen-time each, and I was afraid it would just be a mis-labeled Harley Quinn Flick, kinda like how the Joker was all but left out of Suicide Squad. More recent ones have me moving toward cautiously optimistic. But at the end of the day WB has fumbled the DC stable so many times in so many ways that I cant get any real expectations. Ive been hurt before... -
For a character that I really didnt particularly like OR respect, Elokhar's death hit me in the feels a lot harder than I expected. The Renarin/Jasnah confrontation is probably the closest that is in the same vein. By contrast Tien's death didnt hit me near as hard simply because it was in a flashback and not near the surprise. Eve's Story was rough even though the broad strokes where heavily foreshadowed, but the moment that really hit me was when Dalinar asked for Forgiveness of the Nightwatcher rather than any of the typical Boons she was offering. Teft's 3rd Ideal.... All the feels In a quieter and more long-suffering way, Rlain's POV chapter

Ooof, that's both an awesome find (kudo's) and entirely complicating the matter. We knew that Gravitation, or at leas the Basic Lashing, was about re-directing the Connection to the planet that in the Cosmere is apparently the root of Gravity. But we also know that the effect exists at least somewhat in the Physical Realm since it operates based on physical location/proximity. It also sounds like it does rely on the Windrunner to some extend, but perhaps has some inherent "defaults" the way Soulcasting does. That passage explains why it doesnt affect every object in the radius, and also implies that Connections-via-physical Contact are going to be able to tip the scales. Going back to the test case of an Aluminum Nail with a Steel Head, I think Im leaning more and more to it just not working for either of them, but with the caveat that both might theoretically pull it off with enough Skill AND additional Investiture in the Push.

The armor, and maybe even some of his own possessions, I could see him subconsciously excluding as part of some vague "Self" bubble (though that would itself also be an example of his Perception mattering), but that definitely shouldnt extend to battle dust and whatnot.

There are a few different sides of it. At that time she was bonded to Pattern, first in generations, but he'd regressed to near animalistic levels of stupid. Shallan, who was bonded to him, was also telling lots of fun lies for very complicated and very human reasons. She was also pushing her abilities which was causing her to flirt with Shadesmar itself, causing all kinds of illogical human responses (ie fear and panic). All this would be really interesting to Crytpics and make them want to come and observe. But once she was calmer and had figured some of it out, and had re-sworn Truths to revive Pattern, she'd likelybecome less interesting to whatever group of cryptic that was. There's also the fact that those Cryptics might not have come to the Physical realm for her, rather they might have simply been attracted to the Palanaeum in general and found her of passing interest when they arrived. If Im not mistaken those visions also dried up around the time she left Karbranth.

No worries. Oh, I get what you are saying now; sorry, cutting back on caffeine has be slow today. You are saying that the Reverse Lashing is Investing in the target object (say Kal's Shield) and all that is touching the spike/arrows is a natural physical effect as a gravity well, absent investiture. I like and could certainly see it working that way, though with Realmics as they are it could always play out as a Spiritual Realm, Connection sort of thing too, I guess. I'll admit Im a little hesitant to call it a gravity well, just because it seem to pull arrows in flight that had quite a bit of force/momentum in them, but I dont recall it pulling dirt or nearby dust clouds or any other lightweight things nearby. Which could just be that he didnt spend the time describing it for doylistic reasons (scene pacing an whatnot), but it might be that it is somehow more selective. Though if it plays out that way, @Kingsdaughter613's suggestion that the Windrunner's Perception alters the Reverse Lashing targeting would become a lot more plausible.
-
That is the case with Steel-pushed that are targeted but not in the case of Reverse Lashings, he doesnt need to even be aware of the objects, it's more of a field effect. Here's the differences as I see them: Kell can (theoretically) choose to target just the steel piece of the spike if he's good enough, while Kal cannot selectively target but can affect regardless of his own awareness, so both have equal chance of effecting the Steel portion of the spike. However, WOB says that Aluminum disrupts things in a sort of field effect, so it's possible that the proximity and/or contact with the aluminum will be enough to disrupt both effects. That one at least is is easy and is a Firm "No" just like all the other surges, and apologize if I gave the impression that I was arguing for that. The question I was trying to raise was whether a Steel-push and a Reverse Lashing would be able to push on the Steel portion of the combo spike you desribed, steel that close to and touching Aluminum, or if the aluminum field effect would stop them. But I think the answer would apply equally to both, so I dont think it would be represent a tactical advantage to either. In my opinion, the real deciding factor between those two abilities (if not those two characters overall) is the fact that the Reverse Lashing works on all non-invested materials other than Aluminum, while Allomancy is just as ineffective against aluminum but also every other non-metal option. Wood spears, stone or bone arrowheads, ceramic bullets, etc would all blow right past an allomancers defenses.

Is Knights Radiant powers Hereditary
Quantus replied to Ricocheting Windrunner's question in Cosmere Q&A
It's not hereditary in the sense that it has nothing to do with DNA, but it is likely to happen to those that already know and are emotionally/Spiritually Connected to Knights, simply because it's easier to come to the notice of other spren. But Bridge Four qualifies as that sort of Family, no genetic relation required. -
Agreed. They see themselves too much as functionaries, as those that uphold and execute the laws, not those that Lead the Land and actually Write them. That might not stop an unscrupulous one from becoming a shadow government ruling through a weak king or some such, but I dont see them stepping out from behind their proverbial Law shield.
-
Not sure that's right; the only surge that Kaladin has which requires targeting also requires physical Contact. His only ranged move is the Reverse Lashing, and that pulls everything (that it can effect) toward it, so the steel bit would be just as capable of being affected by Kal as by Kel. In that contest Kal is basically a super-versatile Lurcher, one that can only pull but can affect stone and wood and all those other things immune to Allomancy, and can pull toward other objects rather than just himself. Well, a super-Lurcher that can actually fly and has an intelligent shape-shifting sword made of un-Pushable godmetal that cuts your very soul...

There's a WOB that gems can be charged from any perpendicularity, so assuming you can get to Sel you have the shardpool as an option. Otherwise there are WOB hints that there are ways to make Selish magics work elsewhere (leveraging Conenctions, I assume) but presumably it's not easy. Or you can be Hoid, I suppose He can do either, or probably fuel both with Sand or some such. EDIT: I dont know if this qualifies as a Synergy per say, but it sure seems like an obscure use of a power:

Preliminary Attempt at an Elemental System
Quantus replied to Halyo_Alex's topic in Creator's Corner
I really like what you have here, you have great detail and a promising amount of structured complexity. Base Elements: Great structure, well done. If Im getting you correctly, the elements can be grouped/described as follows: Prime Elements Trinity Compounds Mortal Trinity (Life, Death, Undeath), Holy? Trinity (Holy, Light, Dragon) Non-trinity Compounds / Outer Ring Compounds (Crystal, Lava, Demon, Storm, Rain, Ice) Aether: The Power of Plot (Space, Time, Reality, Mind, Soul, etc, etc...some combination of Infinity Stones, really...That about cover it? First thing that jumps out to me are that the Demon and the Dragon elements are oddballs among the rest. The Inner Ring is comprised of mostly abstract Concepts (Holy, Life, Death, Undeath) plus Light as the only physical compound, and the outer ones are all physical things (though Storm could thematically get abstract too). If Demons and Dragons are more or less equivalent to the Gods, perhaps those Compounds need a conceptual name similar to Holy. Given it's location in the chart (outer ring btween Fire and Chaos) perhaps Demon can be replaced with Smoke, and give them a sort of djinn feel, all smoke and mirrors and deception and whatnot. Im not sure what theme you had in mind for "Dragon" as an Elemental Compound, and honestly Dragon as a term has a lot of literary baggage, enough that readers wont likely default to your same image, so Id recommend replacing it with an appropriate High Concept to pair with Light and Holy, clarifying Dragon's role in the wider universal structure. You mention which ones work together, but might there also be ones that are specifically antagonistic and/or incompatible. For example, perhaps to counter a Death effect you need Light (ie Sunlight vulnerability or similar), but for Undeath you counter with Holy (crosses, holy water, etc). You mention that Crystals can store/channel any of the others. To me that seems like an unbalancing advantage to just that side. Maybe there are three such, which can each covering a pair of Primes and their associated Compounds or can just be a different method/school for accessing all of them just like Crystal. So Crystal gets your magic mechanism, using a lot of crystals and wires and whatnot; Magic through Structure. Rain gets Potions/Alchemy, and is Magic through Process, and then give something similar to Demon...maybe Bargain Magic or Sacrifice Magic that is capable of Augmenting any of the rest? -
Twinborn Tin of (at least) the 3rd Heightening. ALL the Perception including Life Sense, supercharged and individually storable. Lift + Subsumer Medallion Forgery + Soulcasting (This is entirely theoretical, but I think you could use Forgery to make all the really subtle detail changes to a target, then follow it up with soulcasting to lock the changes in place permanently, removing the need to maintain/reapply the Seal)

Are we talking in the times after the end of the series? By then I dont think there would be near the animosity between the two genders as the survivors had been forced to work together, not to mention the factual justification for all the gender segregation among the historically integrated Aes Sedai was removed way back in Winter's Heart and by then they all know it. There really is no longer any justification for maintaining the two as separate organizations, and barring later drama I expect that within a generation or two they will be entirely integrated, as opposed to the rivalry you describe. As far as people being willing to become channelers or Warders to either gender, I think there will always be those willing. There is Power to be had, and there is no long a danger to men in touching it; there were plenty of men willing to try when they knew it would drive them insane, now they will flock to it. Both gender's version of the Warder Bond gave the Channeler a disturbing amount of compulsory control (Aes Sedai just hid that fact better), and both were less effective when the target was themselves a channeler, so that shouldnt be any sort of differentiating factor between the two.

This is the key, it would be able to heal the physical fallout of the withdrawal, but none of the psychological dependence which can often manifest as pain in it's own right, depending on the nature and severity of the drug. That's fair, though at that point it feels like the psychological fallout being reinforced by the Stormlight, manifesting a pain almost entirely because the person feels that they should have pain. Not sure where Im going with that, but it's curious

It's...complicated Check this thread out, there's a lot of ground to cover:
-
IM not sure what you mean? It should probably be far better than what we have managed to understand IRL. Shards get blasted by the pure unadulterated Truth of the Spiritual Realm and can directly perceive (and alter) the building blocks of the universe. The relevant Two we are talking about got together and whistled up the entire populated planet from scratch.
