  1. Today, I observe the ancient Jewish ritual of viewing the extended LoTR trilogy on the 24-25 of December.
  2. You dare disagree with my theory?! Let is be pistols at dawn Sir! Or not. Wax does have strong underlying issues, no argument, but the way they just suddenly surfaced in force at that moment seemed off to me. I'm probably wrong, falling for the red-herring or something. We'll know soon. Question: Is luck something that can be allomanticly stored? What is "luck" in the cosmere? I tend to think Steris is just (reasonably enough) having a personal pity party. She should compare notes with Sarene. Editing to add another thought (8 days before book release): 2 boxing sez that when Steris turns around out of "embarrassment" while Wax is undressing, she is secretly downing a vial of metal.
  3. I rather agree with your assessment of Wayne. I also think he is rather under-estimating Wax's reaction to his "prank". Wax will figure it out, and I expect him to get seriously pissed at Wayne, and at least kick him out of his house. (they will, of course, eventually reconcile, either by the end of this book or the next one) I am now more convinced that Wax was under some kind of emotional allomancy when walking towards the altar, and I suspect the person who organized that is
  4. Ayup. My first thought too. Who would desire to break up the marriage though? Silly Wax, to not wear a tin-foil lined hat on his wedding day...
  5. Vander, this person is noth worth hating. It's just some fool wasting pixel space ranting about a book he doesn't understand. Walk away and wash your hands carefully.
  6. ... Have you made any plans about what oyu're going to do with your bones after you die? Asking for a friend.
  7. Oh don't mind me. Just standing here being innocuous. *whistles*
  8. Dang but I love this forum. (I would raise an eye-brow at this thread except I'm one of these people who can't do that )
  9. In WOR Hoid showed up in Shallan's flashback to tell her a story (of sorts). I for one, would like to see him pop up in Dalinar's back-story (wearing some disguise). Maybe he hasn't been on Roshar long enough though. Or has he? He has to have been training Sigzil in Worldsinging for quite a while. If he's telling a story in the present time frame, I think Adolin is going to need one. (Looks askance at Maxal) would that not fit with all the hopeful theories of reviving his blade and achieving radiant-hood?
  10. When they re-unite, at the beginning of WoK, Navani reminds Dalinar that she is only a few months older than he is. If the marriage age in Alethkar is 17, the youngest they both can be (at that time) is 53-54. I'ma get all mathematical and extrapolate that Dalinar had Adolin when he was about ~ 30 (The Blond Wonder is ~23 in WoK). One of the only things he can remember about Shshshs is that he courted her for 3 years, so he would have met her at 27 - some few years after this flashback. On another note: Peter, if you are still reading this - about the word decimate. I apologize for getting all nerdy about stuff like this, but considering the emphasis the series puts on the number 10, and that in Amaram's battalions the troupe wear Roman-style leather skirts - ya'll really should acknowledge the original meaning of the word. Maybe. Just me nerdy half dime.
  11. So, this is me:
  12. Thank you. I confess that I never really got that much into the original Mistborn trilogy, or its magic system. Loving the Wax andWayne series though.
  13. Could Wax's old ear-ring have granted him some healing power? I seem to recall he had quite a few bullet wounds, and in his mental narration he thinks being shot is no big deal. During the climax of SoS, he is annoyd that the bullet wound in his arm hurts so much, even though he has chewed pain-killers. This seems odd to him. By this point he has taken put his old ear-ring, so it is no longer in effect. Is there a way Harmony could have charged his old ear-ring with healing power? We now know he was always quite keen to protect and preserve Wax.
  14. Oh, if we're doing this, I'm rooting for Wayne + Jasnah. .
  15. What is this this duck precious? Is it some kind of water chicken?
  16. I think Kaladin internalizes the brands as symbols of his failures. Remember, he got the Shash brand just before coming to the planes, after the slaves he tried to lead in a revolt were all killed. He also still blames himself for his brother's death. On some level he may beleive that he "deserves" the brands. That may not makes sense to an outside observer, but depression does warp one's thinking.
  17. Just to be Ruin's advocate- Wayne's deep dislike of Steris is a manifestation of his secret longing for Wax, which he dares not acknoledge, even to himself. Nah. I really like Wayne and MelAan's chemistry. I hope Marasi can meet seone cool in the next book. Perhaps some dashing and mysterious woldhopper will sweep her off her feet?
  18. Listening to the audio version, every time Kramer mentioned Aradel, I kept thinking Airedale. A punny mind is a terrible thing.
  19. Kobolds. Let's call them kobolds.
  20. Is Bleeder trying to tell Wax something he doesn't yet realize about his familiar relationships? Why such emphasis on the back-story with uncle and the coin and everything? If it turns out that uncle Edwarn is actually (search your feelings Wax, you know it to be true) our hero's biological father, well, that would be the untwistiest plot twist ever. The narrative equivalent of a precision straight line. I wonder how Mr. Sanderson can re-bend this one.
  21. Melaan didn't know Lessie was Paalm. TenSoon specifically tells Wax she didn't. I like the idea that real Lessie was the showgirl and got herself killed somehow, providing Paalm with a convenient guise. It is congruent with what The other kandra say of her - she was classic "borderline personality"
  22. Dyamn. Just finished listening to the audio version. Thoughts incoherent. Have to collect feels. Sanderson isn't the only one who gets better with each book, so is the fantabulous Michael Kramer. I could see who the Governor was early on in the book, but thruthanout Lessie hot me out of nowhere. Outstanding. Loved so much about this book. Me want more Melaan and more Steris.
  23. Audible version becomes available October 6th. I will be buying it in a few hours (well, tomorrow morning. That is only a few hours away).
  24. I am currently listening to it. So far it's a fun romp. To me it seems more crystal-punk than steam punk, but I am not well versed in the genre distinctions.
  25. And here I Thought that comes out tomorrow... May I implore you to posts your thoughts once you've finished the book? (I'm saving up my sole audible credit for Shadows of Self, so I'll wait at least a month to hear Butcher's new book.)
