So.. which of those two categories does breath fall under?
-
The distinction between Listeners and Singers is not arbitrary. Dawnsingers are the originals, Listeners(and Humans) are the descendants of the ancient peoples. And as such, the Singer's claim to the land is stronger than anyone elses(in Nalan's mind). The WoB I posted says that Nalan felt that the land reverted to the Dawnsingers after they returned, not after Honor's death.

I'd think the act of shoving enough Investiture into a spot to make a Perpendicularity would invest them into that planet/moon/etc... thus making that connection. They can choose to Invest by snapping their metaphorical fingers, after all. Considering the hand Preservation had in the Atium game, that could have something to do with it too. And my personal theory blames TLR, of all people. It already existed, but TLR changed the landscape, burying Ruin's Pool and building a fortress above the Well. As a side effect (most likely), the Atium began to grow above the Pool, and TLR took full advantage of that once he found out what Atium did. Thus; the Pits came to be. Odds are he probably collapsed whatever cave the Atium was previously growing in while terraforming, so it picked the next closest open area to continue growing. Questions on Elantris
The One Who Connects replied to PrincessMorpheus's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Insert half-baked Unity theory here. (The honest answer is we don't know yet. Brandon plans for Wyrn to claim he's awakening in Elantris 2, so answers forthcoming?) Secondly, the connections that can be made: 1. Skaze -> Skai = Dominion 2. Skaze -> Shu-Dereth -> Jaddeth 3. Jaddeth -> Worship = Devotion? Jaddeth will return when the whole world worships him. This feels either (a) too easy to be right, or (b) blatant enough to get overlooked. Khriss uses Yolish in the Ars Arcanum, so I'd go with that. -
What did the Shaod do before Elantris was built?
The One Who Connects replied to coredumperror's question in Cosmere Q&A
So.. your question delves a little into continuity that we just don't have answers for yet. Credit to Oversleep for realizing this. To become Elantrian you have to be taken by Shaod: So far it means that Shaod must have existed before Elantris. But there is this WoB: which makes it all circular reasoning since to have Shaod you need Elantris and you can't build Elantris without Shaod having already existed. So basically.. listen to Yata until the Elantris Sequels come out. -
What's stopping Vasher from keeping Nightblood sheathed? As evidenced several times(off-screen) during Warbreaker, that thing is still quite deadly. That could actually throw Spook off for a moment or two, since swinging a sheathed sword is a distracting sight. That and the fact that Spook can't push on it. At that point, Vasher can either attempt an awakened method of elevating himself or just walk inside Kredik Shaw and ascend that way. The shortage of tapestries makes me assume he'd ascend the interior, forcing Spook to follow. This could lead to a fun game of cat & mouse, since neither party knows the layout of Kredik Shaw. A Coppercloud might block Vasher's Life Sense, and awakened objects can distract Spook's Tin senses(and possibly his Bronze too, since the Investiture is kinda "active").

Thank you. Glad to have someone else who sees the difference, since I've forgotten the wording of that WoB. Edit: It's because you people say "Nale" rather than "Nalan."

Somebody who's actually read the scene will probably have found some minor detail that explains everything, but Spren that show up in the Physical Realm(fear, glory, etc..) are drawn to the emotion in question. Does whatever he was thinking of relate to wind in some way? If so, they could have been drawn to that.

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
The One Who Connects replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Kinda OB Spoilers(its about the Unmade again) It's just a few things that occurred to me, and it'd be kinda interesting if he actually answered some of these. -
If he did have a "home-base," so to speak, he didn't spend much time there. Investing on a world could bind him to it, and that Investment can happen even if he doesn't intend too. Yea, there are some assumptions people make because it makes sense in the real world(I'm just as guilty of this), but aren't necessarily true. Just to help clear up the issue, more roundabout WoBs : The Humans on Roshar can trace their history further back than the Shattering. The Humans on Roshar did not go from Yolen to Roshar. The First WoB does not preclude the possibility that Rosharan Humans are ultimately from Yolen, with multiple stops along the way. Merely that people did not go directly from Yolen to Roshar.

[OB] Awakening and Elsecalling for Worldhoppers
The One Who Connects replied to Llarimar's topic in Stormlight Archive
True, but Grapevine had a third example: "Allomancy = Lerasium in SpiritWeb(stored investiture)+metal(chemical reactant) = magical effect" The Spren Bond literally suffuses the soul with Investiture. I think that would qualify in a (somewhat)similar way to what Lerasium does to the Spiritweb in Grapevine's example. The color is of import for Fabrials, not that we have a solid reason for the "why color?" question. -

Was this in OB, or am I completely forgetting something from WoR? (I only ask because I made those questions pre-OB and thought I did my research) Edit: Forget I asked, it's OB, and the Painrial page wasn't updated till late November. That's on me for being lazy starting the preview chapters. It's the use of the word "Neuter" in the first WoB he provided. That term still feels pretty nonnegotiable to me. -

[OB] The sudden ease of becoming a radiant
The One Who Connects replied to borg's topic in Stormlight Archive
He's misread, and thought you were implying that Kaladin and Shallan have had the hardest life of any of the characters, rather than any of the Radiants. The former implies that Taln's tenure on Braize wasn't as hard as Shallan/Kal's lives, while the latter is what you really said. With the revelation that is Nalan, that can change. And some people kinda want that to happen, apparently. I'm not one for it, as I'd rather at least one Herald stay self-contained to who they were. As for you @Steeldancer, maybe a little less caps? I know that the Cult of Tanat has gotten a little.. intense at times now that OB is out, but being calm is always a plus on here. (Feel free to use "Cult of Tanat" by the way, I think it fits) -
Neuter is a rather nonnegotiable term.

[OB] Awakening and Elsecalling for Worldhoppers
The One Who Connects replied to Llarimar's topic in Stormlight Archive
Oh, transferring breath involves a drain of color too: Your own. Make your own assumptions: These certainly seem to imply the possibility that that color could be bled from a Rosharan Gemstone. Ooh, that third WoB @RShara posted is even better. This is only semi-realated, and I know this question was about the Tears, but I feel like the existence of "very effective" vs "effective" is important here. As a sidenote, this implies that Soulcast Metal is made of Preservation's essence, despite being made from Honor/Cultivation's power(or Devotion's, since Aon Shao exists), which is.. entertaining. Please enlighten me on how this is any different from "Nalthian Color," because you have not provided an explanation that feels sufficient thus far. Brandon uses the term "color," and Awakeners drain color from objects. If they can only drain color from objects that contain Endowment's Investiture, and Endowment's Investiture is only absorbed by objects on Nalthis(Nalthian EMR), then it may as well be Nalthian Color. This subtopic of conversation will probably just go in circles until a proper explanation is provided by one of us. I'll admit that I'm partially against your theory because I don't see the point in this restriction to the magic. It feels like restrictions for the sake of having restrictions, rather than a limit with a story purpose. I will still stand by "Anyone can awaken if they get the Breath." And this: -

Should I read Elantris?
The One Who Connects replied to ICanDream's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Personally, I feel that it's worth it. The way perspective shifting is done is a little different, but workable. It gives a much better view of what's going on elsewhere at the same time, at the cost of rarely having the same PoV character for more than 2-3 consecutive chapters. Takes a little getting used to, but it's hard to get bored of a character/location when you are somewhere else pretty quickly. The magic system(s) is fascinating, and opens up a lot of potential for the future. It's also book 1 of a planned 3, so reading it at some point before reading the next ones is probably a good idea. And as mentioned, Hrathen is a bit of a fan favorite on the forums. -
So, get used to workarounds, rather than direct answers. Dragonsteel takes place on Yolen. The Shattering takes place during Dragonsteel. Make your assumptions. Humans did not come to Roshar from Yolen. Humans are implied to have come to Roshar from Ashyn. Put them together and see what comes of it.

So, I don't have an explicit yes/no to this question, because of technicalities and details. You can't use awakening on other people, and we don't know if you can do physical awakening to yourself, or only mental(the memories thing) We know Divine Breath can heal, but we don't know if regular Breath is capable of doing so. Breath imitates life, but I'm not sure if it can imitate bodily process to that extent. something else I'm forgetting
