  1. If they're driven by fear, then that fear should factor into how they present themselves. Just as there would be women who would fear not being noticed, not being beautiful and not being sexy, there would be women who feared being seen as too sexy. And then there would be women whose fear had nothing whatsoever to do with sexiness and everything to do with something else, and that would reflect in the way they dressed. From what I'm gathering of the Reckonersverse, women whose fear drives them to become the prettiest, sexiest women on their respective continents are rare. Women whose fears might lead them to dress oddly or for pragmatic purposes seem to be far more common.
  2. Don't eat the cookies. Go for something much saner. Like shipping.
  3. Of course, it could also be that only Epics who put a lot of stock in appearances had their physiques change demonstrably. Steelheart knew that looking like the toughest guy in the prison yard came down to looks first and actions second, so his appearance changed enormously (pun not intended, but I'm so not taking it out either). Newton may not have cared much about her appearance—or perhaps preferred people ignore her based on that—so it didn't change much.
  4. Is it short for The Epic Epic of Epic Epicness? Is there an epic poem about the Epic Epic of Epic Epicness? Is it epic? Is... Oh dear. I don't think I can stop. Welcome to the forums.
  5. Precisely. I think Kobold's theory is in play here--their appearances changed to match their perceptions of themselves. Regalia saw herself as a sort of always-right-all-the-time-always mother figure, and her appearance reflected that.
  6. That….is a very disturbing thought. I take solace in the fact that Regalia was only attractive through her water projections and Newton appeared to dress rather modestly. At any rate, there was nothing specifically pointing out a proclivity for cleavage-baring tops or short skirts, which I think would've been mentioned if it were important.
  7. 8/10. 3 for showing your thread loyalties, 5 for that first statement holding so much TRUTH.
  8. ….and now that song is in my head. Thanks.
  9. But who would be the hero poor unfortunate soul who finally sat on his hat?
  10. How about "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon? Or "Barbara Manatee" from VeggieTales?
  11. I think it just means I need to step up my game. Calamity/Protector Pug? Numnums/Financier? Regalia/Mister Hamsterface? All excellent ideas.
  12. I just realized: the BBQ sauce recipe my family uses is a modified version of one from Allrecipes.com, called Big Al's KC BBQ sauce.
  13. Koschei's shirtless invasion of The Dalles, culminating in a topless battle against Remington Springfield in the snow, possibly at night, on Mount Hood where the temperature drops quite a bit when the sun goes down? Yeah, sounds like DC.
  14. The worst part of this conversation is that I hadn't envisioned Autumn as very (ahem) well endowed. DC artists would see this as a travesty and change the character design at once.
  15. A few pages later, beneath a silhouette of a pug, is Protector Pug's first viewpoint scene. It might take the edge off.
  16. It says a lot about DC's treatment of female characters that the guy criticizing Scribbler's skimpy costume is the most unrealistic part of that conversation.
  17. Are you sure he was a criminal low-life before Calamity? Because I'm pretty sure Edgar Hawke could've had a lucrative career as an artist for DC Comics. ....I thought that's what they were going to get.
  18. At least Vondra and Arsenal would both see that punishment as immoral.
  19. It's okay. Redeemed!Deathwish can handle angry!Arsenal.
  20. That would mean Calamity works fast, not to mention he's kind of a procrastinator. "Eh, I've been meaning to make her into an Epic for a while now, but I just haven't gotten around to...wait, she's about to DIE? Crap, she needs a Rending pronto! Just let me put this beer down and...there! Okay. Back to Ghostbusters."
  21. It's not Deathwish's fault that so many people in The Dalles think making Arsenal angry is good, clean fun. Though it is his fault for stealing the couch. That was all Deathwish's idea.
  22. That would make it difficult, yes. Although there's always the chance she is/was a resurrection Epic. I don't believe that's the case, but there is a chance. That said, I think having Val be a somewhat snippy and combative normal human was an intentional move. One of Firefight's major themes is that Epics have a very human reason for acting the way they do. It may not make their actions right, but it does make them seem less alien to both David and to the reader. Adding a normal human who acts somewhat like an Epic drew attention to the human reasons behind Epic atrocities.
