  1. I'd argue that in this case, the freed Parshmen are almost a different race than the Parshendi. In fact, Kaladin has been a heck of a lot less privileged than Eshonai, until very recently. Eshonai has so little in common with the freed Parshmen. Kaladin has at least experienced slavery.
  2. Whatever gave you that idea? I thought he was reluctant, but... I didn't see anything sinister or even worrisome in his exchange with Adolin.
  3. That... Actually makes a lot of sense. Well done, sir.
  4. 3. a. Is there more significance to the 10 other planets around the Rosharian start system and them being gaseous? We know that Roshar's moons have unnatural orbits; so there seems to be some astronomical manipulation in the system. A. Yes there is significance of 16 in cosmere and 10 in Rosharian system.3. b. The outer 10 gas giants in the Rosharan system suggest a tie to the number 10 that predates the arrival of the current Shards. Is the prominent numerology we see around the Cosmere an inherent property of the planets, rather than the Shards who invest them? A. Big RAFO3. c. Would Ashyn/Braize share the 10-centric numerology of Roshar?A. Yes 10-centric is for the entire Rosharian planetary system...wait Braize is 9-centric
  5. I took it as Dalinar basically being the active ruler, since Elhokar is still recovering. Under normal circumstances, I don't think he would, but such authority has been delegated while the king is down.
  6. I interpreted it as the voice was speaking across whatever cosmic radio station the Rhythms are being broadcast across. But I see your interpretation as well, and it's probably the correct way to look at it.
  7. They said that the voice was in the Rhythm, which seems at least somewhat different. Since they have to attune the Rhythms, rather than having them be omnipresent. So I would think that if Klade didn't want to hear the voice, he wouldn't have to, and could just stop attuning whatever Rhythm that was.
  8. It says in WoR (Page 198 of Kindle).
  9. I'm confused by this part. From Words of Radiance, we see that the Parshendi only learned to capture spren from humans. From Eshonai's reaction here, it seems like this scene in the prologue is where they learn that it's possible. So is this confirmation that Parshendi have gemhearts, and bring the spren into them to transform? She wouldn't be so surprised if they had already learned to trap spren in gemstones themselves and take those spren into the storm like we see in Words of Radiance. But if that's not it, what could the humans be mimicking? I think she must be referring to the transformation process itself, where the Parshendi take spren into their gemhearts, similar to Chasmfiends.
  10. I hadn't considered that he could hear the Rhythms. But it's possible. Brandon has said that the Rhythms exist separately from the Parshendi, and were a part of the world/Cosmere. I doubt Gavilar was an allomancer, but there could be another way that he was sensitive to the Rhythms. Maybe something to do with Proto-Bondsmiths?
  11. Brandon doesn't usually add signed books to his site until they've been out for a year. There are usually signed copies available from Weller Book Works, which you can order ahead of release. Usually they don't arrive until a week or two after release, so I buy an ebook copy as well. If I recall correctly, Brandon said Oathbringer orders from Weller should start about two months before the release date.
  12. I'll be getting it at midnight on my kindle, and I've already put Nov 14 as a vacation day on my work calendar. Can. Not. Wait.
  13. Pretty sure I remember seeing a RAFO for that, but I'm not sure where/when...
  14. WoB is that 9 is significant to Braize, which is where Odium is. Not too hard to extrapolate from there, but not confirmed either.
  15. I agree about trapping the spren, but from that quote he does seem to imply that the spren do enter the gemheart. It is simply voluntary, as opposed to fabrials, where they are forced into gems.
  16. I'm with you on the Midwest stops; I'd love it if he came to Detroit or Ann Arbor. Chicago is doable, but it's a four hour drive... And as @Argent said, it's usually during the week.
  17. I was just reading over a Q&A transcript from a signing, and came across this: Q: Roshar has three moons that orbit it, and I notice that these orbits somewhat collide. I was wondering if the moons have anything to do with... A: The moons are a little bit of a hint, but it’s not about what you’re thinking. They are not in a stable orbit on astronomical terms. They’ll last tens of thousands of years before they degrade. But it is a little bit of a hint of things. The fact that Roshar has three moons in a very specific orbit is a hint about things. This seems like something of a confirmation to me that Desolations probably occur at a certain alignment of the moons. Especially given that Braize is where the Heralds hang out (or get tortured. Semantics) between Desolations, and is where Odium is trapped. Thoughts? Has this been considered or confirmed somewhere I haven't seen it? Edit: I now see a thread with the same quote, referring to interaction with Highstorms. That's probably more likely, as the orbits of moons are probably too short to make such an alignment a once-in-four-thousand-years occurrence.
  18. I could see that happening, but only if it's a Demons Don't Dream (Xanth) type scenario where he doesn't know what side he's really fighting for. Kaladin would never knowingly fight on Odium's side.
  19. If I remember right, Brandon and Peter have said that all the Cosmere stories take place in a small star cluster, which is a small part of a dwarf galaxy. Do we have any information on whether the Shards have influence outside of this area? Can they affect the rest of the universe, and just chose this area in which to invest? Are they limited geoastrographically? Or is this the extent of the Cosmere as a universe?
  20. It could be a combination of the two. Only Lift can see it, but it is in fact caused by Nightblood. We've never seen what effect Nightblood has in the Cognitive Realm, so this could fit.
  21. I have two questions that I want to ask at an upcoming signing, but want to make sure that they haven't been answered already first. I have a feeling that they'll be RAFO'd, but... Anyway. Had anyone else ever held Adonalsium's power before Adonalsium? (I mean before whatever/whoever had it when Adonalsium was shattered, if Adonalsium isn't the person/thing's name) Were there any worldhoppers pre-shattering, or is this something that developed after the Shards were taken up by the 16? As a follow-up, if there were none prior, is it because worldhopping is facilitated by the separation of powers, such as perpendicularites that wouldn't be present if Adonalsium were still whole? If anybody knows the answer so I don't waste a question, I'd appreciate it!
  22. Yes, it is. Good catch!
  23. I'm not sure on the Kindle edition, but the charts to which we're referring are on the inside of the hardcover, partially covered by the dust jacket.
  24. I'm not sure he ever actually referred to Bavadin as "he", I think that people just assumed that and he never argued. If Autonomy has closed off access to Taldain though, how did Khriss manage to get off-planet? She seems to indicate that it was some kind of ordeal, or perhaps that she can't get home. Also, Silverlight. My question is whether this is the Restaurant at the End of the Cosmere, or if it is merely a subsection of that Restaurant? I also thought it interesting the way Hemalurgy was described, making false Connection. There are so many mechanics being fleshed out, I love it!
  25. I think that Yolen must be in The Scar. Just the name implies that some kind of wound happened there (the Shattering?), and it's in the shape of a dragon. Where do we know that dragons exist? Yolen. Also, is this the same as Taln's Scar, visible from Roshar? I think it must be (although we can't tell from the star chart whether it's red or not!)
