Yeah, same. I think I've said it in other games as a player - I don't expect hyperposting, I do expect engagement. -
Quick Fix Game 68: Devil Has Come To Carry Me Home

After-Action Report (Look imma do this now before I forget.) Low Activity I'll accept that this is a QF, but the pace of voting and interest in the thread seemed non-existent. As usual, this penalises the Village more than it does the Elims. It also made control kills way more effective, as seen from Fifth and Mat getting shanked respectively. Mat flagged he had difficulty doing analysis when there was nothing to bounce off, and Sart noted this as well as he tried to get discussion going. I don't feel there's a simple cure for this and I've been in their position complaining about inactivity for the last five games or so. But as a GM, I do have to flag this was way more quiet than even a QF normally is, with outsized impacts on the Village. I'll just say, again, resignedly, that if this isn't fixed, it's going to be a turn-off for players, probably. Distro I think in general, I'm okay with the distro. I have considered if the Village could use an additional Koloss-Blooded but feel that this probably seemed insufficient because Pyro was the second Village KB and practically no one was interested in flipping Pyro. So I'm 50/50 about this. E.g. if Fifth or Mat had been KB, this would have been a really different game. The counterpoint is that it's difficult to tell when doing the distro if Pyro would or wouldn't have been a player people tried to flip. Not giving the Village any Lookouts is a slightly spicy choice, but I didn't feel too comfortable with it given it seemed the Village was more likely to retain possession of the gun for most of the game. Granted, the Lookout is a very weak scan, but scan + vig kill is often a tad too much for any team. I think in retrospect, one Village Lookout to oppose the Elim Lookout would really have been fine. I think I should've just bitten the bullet and allowed a new player team to prevent overmetagaming of my distro. Fortunately, no one was interested in following up on Mat, and TKN had a vested self-interest in quashing it. At the same time, this is a game with a predominant new player population, so there's that as well. Given who the KBs were, I think it really wouldn't have been the worst to have gone for a mixed team after all. In general as well, I'm cool with one KB and one Lookout/Lawman. Since TKN never sent in an action, he was functionally a glorified regular. What's more important here is I felt three Elims was a bit much as it gave them quite a bit more voting power (especially looking at train sizes/activity here, and that'd put them just under half of existing voting power - 7/3 is a Lot) and set the overparity threshold a bit higher than I liked, given the potential for Village collateral damage. A KB is a nice split there as the extra life doesn't entail an extra vote, but allows them to soak a bit of extra damage to reduce volatility. That's about it for me. It wasn't an especially complex game, thankfully, so I didn't have too much to say. -

Aftermath: The Cards Fall “Well,” pronounced Warn, stepping before the ragged remnants of the Band. “What do you have for me?” Lark and Mud both pointed at each other. “I saw him killing,” Mud stated, while Lark snarled, “Lawman lies.” The remaining members of the Band looked at each other. Doug’s gaze was downcast, and he said nothing. Kern supposed the events of the past days had taken their toll on him. Danji, meanwhile, didn’t remotely hesitate. “Makes sense to me,” Danji stated. “Always thought there was something weird about Lark executing Violet just like that.” “I think Lark is the liar here,” Rajib echoed, looking down at Warn’s Sterrion. Was it their imagination or was there still a hint of acrid gunsmoke, lingering in the air? “It’s the more likely situation. You’re grasping at straws, Lark.” Still, Rajib levelled the Sterrion at Mud. “Nevertheless, I think it’s best we take precautions.” Two guns went off at the same time. Lark collapsed like a wet rag. This time, Warn did not stop at the first shot. It was harder to kill one of the koloss-blooded, after all. Blood leaked from his wounds. “You…fools…” Lark coughed, and then fell silent. Rajib gaped. And then collapsed, as a rush of blood spilled out from multiple wounds they had taken. “Rusts,” said Mud, crossly. “I hate getting shot.” “Better you than me,” Danji grunted. A fan of metal-edged playing cards spread themselves out before him, still stained with Rajib’s blood. Mud looked over at Warn. “Be a good time to surrender now, Warn,” he said, crisply. “You’ve run out of supporters—and rope.” “Alternatively,” Danji said, adjusting the slanting brim of his hat, “There’s always the chainsaw of justice.” He gestured to the spread of cards. “Do you play?” “Do you mind?” Mud grunted. “It’s not as easy to hold them steady as you think.” “Oh, so suddenly you’re the one doing the work even though I’ve got to push on them.” Warn smiled. A twist of the lip, nothing more. Something foreboding glinted in his eyes. “So, you think you’ve got me cornered, is that it?” He levelled the Sterrion at Danji, and palmed a ceramic throwing knife in the other hand. “I don’t think so.” Behind him, Kern rose, dusting off his arms. “Shame,” said Mud. “So, do you feel lucky?” Warn snarled. “Because I guarantee you, I’ll put a bullet through you before you can do much with that toy of yours.” Mud tilted his head. “Why yes,” he said. “Actually, I do.” Kern snapped an arm across Warn’s throat and plunged the throwing knife into Warn’s back. The Sterrion went off, but Warn’s aim was gone and the bullet was lodged somewhere in the ceiling of the hideout, while Warn’d not managed to flick the knife at all. “See,” Mud said. “The way I see it, there’s three of us. And only one of you.” “Spoilsport,” Danji muttered, grouchily. Kade shrugged. “You mulched enough outlaws with your chainsaw of justice. Besides, you know it’s hard to outdraw Warn.” ✯ Lark / @Sart was executed. He was a Koloss-Blooded Scoundrel! Rajib Urbain / @Ravenclawjedi42 was killed! They were a Scoundrel! Mud / @Experience was attacked but survived! The Lawmen ( @Experience, @The Known Novel ) have won! (Sart did tell you so ) ggwp. -

Quick Fix Game 68: Devil Has Come To Carry Me Home

No targets, only the type of action taken. If player takes multiple actions, then all are mentioned, e.g. an Elim who uses the gun and the kill would be reflected as having taken two kill actions. -

Cycle Three: Warning Shot There were two more gunshots in the night. The surviving stragglers of the Band surged out to find Warn glowering over the cooling bodies of Mat and Jenv. “I told you,” he said, calmly. “This is a matter of life and death, you lot. Try to look lively. Our lawman problem ain’t going away if we close our eyes and ask them nicely. Lawmen ain’t nice like that.” He nodded to the lot of them, arms folded across his chest. “So tell me. What’ve you all got for me?” “I think Mud is suspicious,” Lark said, regarding the Lurcher with narrowed eyes. “Adze and Mud used to tangle, on account of Adze’s shootin’ skills. Ain’t it weird that Adze’s dead now and Mud’s still alive?” “What sort of basis for suspicion is that even?” Mud shot back. “You diggin’ for a reason to get me killed, Lark? Maybe on account of you bein’ a lawman?” Lark laughed, harshly. “I shot Violet ‘cause it looked like she was anglin’ to shield you, Mud. Don’t think I ain’t got it in me to take you out.” “Honestly Chief,” said Doug, “I…think Lark looks mighty suspicious to me?” He quailed a little as Warn regarded him with a flat stare. “Really,” said Warn. “Yeah…yeah Chief! Mat thought so too!” “Hmm,” Warn said, and shot Lark preemptorily. “Rust,” Lark cursed, staggering and clutching at the wound in his arm. “I’m not a rusting lawman, what will it take for you to rusting believe me?” Warn shrugged. “Since you ain’t dead, you have one last shot,” he said, unmoved. “Do try not to disappoint me, will you?" ✯ Lark / @Sart was exed but survived! Mat / @Matrim's Dice and Jenv / @JNV were both killed! They were both Scoundrels! Cycle Three has begun! It will end on Tuesday, 17th October 2023, at 2300hrs SGT (GMT +8). -

Quick Fix Game 68: Devil Has Come To Carry Me Home

Cycle Two: Shots Fired At some point, Warn had gotten bored of hovering threateningly over the gathered members of the Red Band and had left with a smirk and a gesture—pointing at his eyes, and then two fingers drawn across the throat, sharply—at the outlaw who still held Warn’s Sterrion in hand. The message was clear: Warn was watching. Someone was going to have to die. “The rest of you, keep searching,” Warn said. “You think you’ve figured out who the turncoat is, you let me know. Beefing those lawmen hiding among us…we ain’t safe until we do that.” He turned and strode out of the room, moving deeper into the hideout. The remaining members of the Band stared at each other. Some began to get up and leave. “We still have to find someone,” rasped one of them. “The Mistress—I mean, uh, the Chief won’t like it if we can’t hand over a name to him.” Violet squinted at him. “You seem really eager to hand someone over. Sounds like a lawman to me.” Rajib was playing with a cravat. Well-dressed, unusually so in the Roughs. Something that stood out, like that Elendel accent. The Urbain looked up, eyes narrowed. “You’re unusually eager to be pointing out people. Almost as though you’re choosing targets.” There was a burst of bright red smoke, thick and choking. Everyone in the room doubled over, eyes burning and watering and coughing. There was the loud bark of multiple shots fired, going off almost all at once. Stench of gunsmoke. By the time the smoke cleared, Violet, Adze, and the outlaw whose name no one could remember but who’d been going on about sacrificing others to his dread Mistress—they all lay flat on the ground, bleeding out. Doug dashed over to check on each of them in turn, but it was too late. All three, stone-cold dead. “Well, Ironeyes’s gaze,” Kern said, at last. “I thought Warn was pulling another one with his paranoia. Looks like he’s right. We got some lawmen among us.” He bent down and picked up a metal orb from the ground. It had cracked open, and a puff of red smoke leaked out from it. The blackened fuse was burned all the way down to a stub. “Smoke bomb,” Rajib said. “Haven’t seen one of those since—” Kern hefted it in his hand. “Yeah,” he said slowly. “It’s city-make. No one in the Roughs uses that sorta thing. We got trouble.” ✯ A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Something beyond shadows stilled. For a moment, the Mind Walkers heard the calling falter, silenced. It resumed, for what is a moment but a teardrop in the palm of the infinite? Next to that, what is a solitary life? ✯ ??? / @The Wandering Wizard was exed! He was a Scoundrel! Adze / @Fifth Scholar and @Violet were both killed! They were also Scoundrels! My God, you all hate scoundrels! You're all secretly lawmen in disguise, aren't you >> In addition, this is an activity warning for @JNV - if you do not show up this cycle, you will be deleted removed by the filter. Cycle Two has begun! It will end on Monday, 16th October 2023, at 2300hrs SGT (GMT +8). -

If it's the Smoking Gun, it counts as a refusal to use the gun, and you die To be fair, most of the local lawmen would say trying to shoot Warn is a deathwish... There are games where shooting or exeing the GM does something. This is a simple, non-blackout game so it ain't it Edited to add: Current votecount according to my tally:- 156 replies

Tbh I've just never stopped trolling Drake over a game that requires at least 99 players
-
At the risk of sounding like I'm Drake's PR here, I fully blame him for our latest spate of "who needs action limits, they're for scrubs" rulesets But no, this thought is at the back of our heads a little. I like mechsolving but I don't always feel it's appropriate for a game, so think it has to be a deliberate decision. But it's also a conversation I've had with Stick which is that I feel games that deliberately decide mechsolving is ok should probably factor that in: if it's going to be claim heavy, introduce some uncertainty or give the Elims a way to dissemble or hide, taint information, generate powerful fakeclaim/claimwar incentives, etc. I still think the other factor should be that most GMs should actively take lower playercounts into consideration when building a game. It's been clear for the last couple months that the player counts are reliably decreasing. We need to stop trying to get last minute sign-ups from people who can barely be there in the hopes of hitting the minimum and that means actually not making games that need 43+ players to run (not looking at anyone in particular nope.)

Kasimir replied to Kasimir's topic in Sanderson Elimination
So there's a bad assumption in here I should clarify: I deliberately didn't say anything about action slots because this game has no action limits. Gun down someone with the Hidden Gun and NK at the same time! Action track and gun down someone at the same time! And so on. Anyway the Smoking Gun, which I should've said more clearly but I was cribbing off QF7 at that time - it's a oneshot kill. The player who has it can shoot someone for that cycle. In fact, if you don't use it, it will be used on you.- 156 replies

This means there are some decisions past!Kas made that now!Kas finds plain weird I have updated the rules after consultation with Araris. The new OoA is as follows: -Exe/Lawman kill/Smoking Gun kill -Lookout scan -Smoking Gun selection In other words, the ability of the exe to block both the Lawman kill and the Smoking Gun has been patched Thank you!- 156 replies

Quick Fix Game 68: Devil Has Come To Carry Me Home
Kasimir replied to Kasimir's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Cycle One: Passing the Gun The members of the Red Band eyed each other warily. One of them was holding the Sterrion, and— “Point that thing elsewhere,” Danji growled. “‘Less you want a hole somewhere that ain’t your mouth.” “And where’d you gonna find the nails?” Adze wanted to know. Best shot in the Band, and Mud’d the scars to prove it. Worst shot, from a certain point of you. Point him at a Lurcher, and Adze never missed. Tough luck for Mud, though. Danji scowled at him. “Never you mind,” he said. “Just steal some bullets,” said Doug. “He can push on bullets, right?” Still, the scoundrel with the Sterrion had at least pointed it at the ground. For now. “Make a decision,” Warn said, smiling genially. He was toying with the other holstered Sterrion, which made Kern feel nervous. Really, anyone should be nervous when Warn got…twitchy. Still, as erratic as Warn was, no one disputed he was probably the most dangerous outlaw this side of Callingfale, and there was a reason the Red Band was doing so well. He took risks people thought were crazy, and nothing seemed to stop him. Certainly not fear. Maybe some people thought the paranoia helped. “Ain’t right to keep Ironeyes waiting, ‘specially for the turncoat.” He patted the ruffian on the shoulder. “I’m sure you’ll get around to it…before I lose my patience.” ✯ Cycle One has begun! It will end on Sunday, 15th October 2023, at 2300hrs SGT (GMT +8). All GM PMs should have been sent out. Please check your inbox (the timestamp may be earlier than you expect) and let me know if you haven't received anything. I don't think I need to say this, but as a pre-emptive reminder to any players in the LG: please don't make any comments that imply anything about your alignment as the IM is still alive in that game.
