Mid-Range Game 67: 'Twas the Night Before SA5
Kasimir replied to Mat's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Kind of feel Wiz is in V!meta but not confident of that call due to getting confounded in LG95. Tentative ok with a weak meta-based V read of JNV. Going to highlight again that one doesn't bet the farm on it until after C3. Slight potential E on Devo but based on one prong of a theory. Let's see how this goes.- 1220 replies

Mid-Range Game 67: 'Twas the Night Before SA5
Kasimir replied to Mat's topic in Sanderson Elimination
No. It isn't. It means they need to balance the Elims against the Village, which actually makes their play less pro-Village than I'd anticipated. I think my current line of thought on the issue is: probably good to track, we don't want to be doing last minute SK hunt if things get close or when they start playing anti-Village, but absolutely focus on the Elims right here and now. I don't think it matters sorry I was working on the assumption we needed them out since that's standard. Since we don't, and since their PtV is pretty much playing Elims v. Village much harder than I thought (as either of us can win without them), I am not as concerned about the PoE blend issue than I was. It can't. But we don't need them dead and we can win before them, so they have to deliberately block us from doing so. Good times /s o7- 1220 replies

YEP. I s2g that's the normal freakin' set-up. Well not F2 last one standing. Located and shared for collective sanity. We don't need them out, but they need to be last one standing.- 1220 replies

Mid-Range Game 67: 'Twas the Night Before SA5
Kasimir replied to Mat's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Appreciated, feel free to @ me later on if I forget. I'm more comfortable talking about it, say, past the 12 hour mark or so? Here's the issue: since the SK is kill-proof here, the SK is not going to exactly be too scared to look Village and hunt Elims because that keeps them looking Villagery and they don't need to fear the NK. The fact a Village Lurcher exists means they have some cover for surviving the NK if they look Villagery. So I do in fact think that that Elim hunting here potentially points to the wrong PoE for the SK. I think they are two distinct pools/profiles, which is why I emphasise looking for both. No connections and TMI for the SK either. In short, it's possible for the SK to look fairly Villagery, though I'd agree they're not likely to go extreme Villagery since it'd bait the kill issue. Yeah. Edited to add: Wait. We are not required to kill the SK? I need to check this because what the hell, I swear every game I've played with an SK requires us to get them out.- 1220 replies

Mid-Range Game 67: 'Twas the Night Before SA5

I'm not sure why there's a question there - if it's NAI for Archer, then he's null, simpliciter, which means I'm open to voting him, but would rather apply pressure elsewhere. I have some further thoughts on the issue I don't want to get into now but will be willing to be more forthcoming later on in the cycle. Oof RIP. Might check them out sometime but I deleted my account and stuff after the break-up. Might ask one of my Arcanist friends about it though! YMMV. I just don't feel SK is an immediate priority. I'm just also warning Ravenclaw that we can't afford to ignore the SK either. In the MR someone linked, Village struggled for a while because I think they weren't killing an openwolfing Elim, but also because they had left it so long they needed to take out the SK. (Honestly even then I'm abstracting away a lot of the messiness but it's ~unnecessary drama you don't need to know.) I don't recall the precise number (ha, Mat, take that!) but it was something like a Joe game with Bleeder. MR42 I thiiiiiink? We can absolutely do both and should do both in terms of PoE/tracking, but my priority is hitting an Elim if we can. Cheers!- 1220 replies

Break Tank 4: Last Night, Rain Mingled With Mist
Kasimir replied to Kasimir's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yes. You can if you want to, but it'll count to the Village's losscon. Note to everyone that Drake and I are likely to talk to our prospective IM about leaving sign-ups open for longer. While we'd rather not get pity sign-ups, we won't test what we want to with seven players. We're ideally looking to hit a minimum of nine to actually test the mech (which is what the BT is meant for, anyway.)- 341 replies

Edited to add: Bold is pretty damn necessary if you want the GM not to suffer counting votes in a hyperactive thread... Oh, @neil the beguiled - Just to be aware, we have a thing about clearly demarcating edits, but you can edit your posts as long as you don't change the content, just add to it. If Stick hasn't linked you to rules and etiquette yet, probably check it out. The really important thing for you since you mentioned being a hyperposter is that posts now automerge if you try to post within fifteen minutes, and if no one else has posted. Just be careful of it Edited to add 2: And you shouldn't be editing old posts anyway (though admittedly I do to maintain post justification), just the most recent one. ...This prospective merge aged badly.- 1220 replies

Oh hey! I didn't know FR had mafia. My ex was into it so I played for a while but I think I mostly hung out with the Arcane folks and went ham on coatls and imperials. SK's a delicate balance IMO. We want the SK dead at some point (if we let it get to lategame, we lose if we don't get them out) but early on I think I'm more interested in looking for Elims. Medium-term versus short-term problems IMO. Just get an IM who is good at distros, or co-GM with someone better, that's how I do it Also why LG74 used Fifth's Tricks distro. I'd take MR56 as prima facie reason not to townlean claims from Archer fwiw. I think it's well within his range. Aman wb bro- 1220 replies

Break Tank 4: Last Night, Rain Mingled With Mist
Kasimir replied to Kasimir's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Edited the rules in light of recurring questions to make it more clear that the one Villager execution limit is in total rather than in a cycle. That is, for Village, you have to be mindful of two constraints: You can't execute more than one Villager in total (the exact number may be adjusted, but keep in mind each exe is a free flip for the Village) You can't exceed X cycles (of info gathering - again, we'll tell you the exact threshold later) before the Forsaken and any Darkfriends there win by default. tldr; you can't be too aggressive, but waiting too long won't help you either. That's about as much on the design/balance side as I get to say.- 341 replies

Mid-Range Game 67: 'Twas the Night Before SA5
Kasimir replied to Mat's topic in Sanderson Elimination
So many fricking people. Everywhere he looked, Kasim saw people. Worse than trying to cross the Causeway near the Lunar New Year, though he wasn't going to share that observation with anyone. It was enough to make him regret the impulse decision to buy a pass for Dragonsteel. But. But it was the year of Stormlight 5, but he'd happened to be stateside sorting out the usual cursed stuff to do with grad school and everyone he knew having conniptions about the fact he was going on to do his PhD after all, and you never really had cons that side of Southeast Asia and he was pretty sure Sanderson was never ever going to his neck of the woods, and all of that meant an impulse decision that Kasim was kinda maybe sorta regretting because there were too many goddamned people and he was gonna blow a gasket. He saw, for no particular reason, a circle of people outside the Exhibit Hall and meandered over to kaypoh. Something about the formation had caught his eye and he briefly entertained thoughts of a Sanderson cult standing there. Well, he was half-right. They were a cult. Someone with enough quokka merch to "stand by quokka", a dude skulking about in a corner with a board game, and Kasim was about to wander off without looking too extra or calefare when something caught his attention. "...first SE meet-up in forever, maybe since the start of SE—" Waaaaaait a sec. Half-rusted memories ticked free. He'd signed up for a couple of games in a light semester and then sort of fell out of it again when his workload started to get really packed and that shoulder RSI'd kicked in hardcore. SE? Those people? The forum murdergame people? Doing a meet at Dragonsteel? Eh. His people would've come and gone by then, Kasim figured. He hadn't even played in ages and man would it be awkward to just ownself invite ownself into that sort of gathering. What were the odds people like Jain or Araris were even still playing that? But he'd some good memories too. And while he didn't think Doctor or Hael were at Dragonsteel or the SE meet—he dug about for his mobile and texted a quick query over Discord—he figured he might run into someone he knew. Rabak siah. Guess he was joining the circle cult thing then. -
I missed the second part The fair yeah was a response to the Realo. Otherwise in general my view of the Kakari is I'd like to try it but metallic pens aren't my jam admittedly. (I guess I've thought about it more since my last post?) Reasonable There was a beautiful starry one from Bungubox that had my eye but did not want a Realo. Monoc and Estie sound great tbh. The Monoc looks really good, but as you said, sticker shock! Edited to add: I really need to reduce pen boxes

Care to share which one you have your eye on? And fair, yeah!

Yes. Reasonable. GM Announcement: The game will now start on Night 0, due to no NK and the anticipation this will make D1 go a bit more smoothly. The rules will be updated to reflect this.- 341 replies

Break tank rules specify no pinch-hitters: Once again linking the base break tank rules for everyone to refamiliarise, including apparently Drake and myself since: What are write-ups anyway? We technically dodged the 2-3 weeks thing but this is because I suspect we may need to hold sign-ups open a bit longer if something goes pear-shaped in the test distros.- 341 replies

I feel you - I've been battling RSI on my dominant hand so had to call NaNo off One day! Reasonable, the Realo has tempted me although I hear negative things about Sailor and pistons. I'm considering a Kyuseido Kakari at some point but that's solidly FAFO territory by now.

Break Tank 4: Last Night, Rain Mingled With Mist
Kasimir replied to Kasimir's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Short answer: no. This is triggered only by more than one Villager getting exed. Night deaths do not count. Ties or a dominant 'no exe' vote do not trigger the Village losscon. To be clear, there is no faction kill, and a oneshot kill from the Veteran. The Fool's extra mob violence death occurs at Night and isn't classed as an exe. Nothing in this paragraph counts as an exe death when it comes towards triggering the Village's losscon. If we didn't, what's the point of that ability? Put it this way: yes, but if you ask us a twenty-four subclause question, we reserve the right to be extremely Aes Sedai in answering or to reject any overly-exploitative question. Be strategic. Yes. But the claim has to be in the same Turn. No such thing as claiming in the Night Turn and then getting exed the following Day. No - you get one player each successive Night. By the the third Night, you are guaranteed one player from each category, you just don't know which is which. So even by Night Three, you have a pool that includes the Forsaken. You just don't know who in the pool specifically is the Forsaken. Not necessarily. That is, we're not ruling out the possibility of a dual-roled Madman who believes he's a Darkfriend-aligned Elder. But you will definitely never be told you are the Forsaken. Don't worry, neither do we This guy gets it. GM Announcement: We are now setting the rollover timings at 0130hrs SGT / 1330hrs SGT respectively, since Turns are twelve hours apiece. Drake and I would also like to pre-emptively request player forbearance. We may tinker with the specifics of the rules and the wincons all the way through the start of the game. This is a BT so it's harder to get right than a normal game, with more adjustments than usual. We will drop a changelog at the start of the game again to remind everyone of what all the changes are, but players are encouraged to re-read the rules once more at the start of the game.- 341 replies

Kasimir replied to Kasimir's topic in Sanderson Elimination
To everyone signing up: Please be reminded to familiarise yourself with BT rules. BTs are fast-paced games meant to test some aspect of a ruleset or mechanic that a GM has in mind, to see what breaks, and to get some lessons for running this as a proper/full game. Balance is not guaranteed. Drake and I are indeed testing something. One of the corollaries is that players are encouraged to leave RP in spoiler boxes, so as not to clog the thread.- 341 replies
