  1. I regret to inform you I am now tempted to slightly award you a >> Part of me feels an Elim is just more likely to assume an E read off the bat - Elim self-consciousness at work. Part of me admits it's my own damned fault for just being so unclear and never really specifying I wanted to read very, very weakly just for getting down to business to make a solving-relevant comment in a low tempo early thread. See, my negative skew on Archer does come from something in that ballpark, but a different direction, and I dunno how to feel about the fact I might agree with you in destination if not in journey. I don't wanna say too much but I commented OOG when speccing another game to certain players that sometimes when you agree with a player you can go either way. It's the one guy's modus ponens is another guy's modus tollens thing in philosophy - I can take it to loosely imply I should probably have a better read on the player in question for mindmeld reasons or I can take it to seriously doubt my read and IDK right now. Want to know why you have this reaction to DeTess but not to Aman also fence-sitting? I award myself one disgruntled Patamon:
  2. Why not? 1. Doubling votes increases pressure. 2. It's early in the cycle yet. CMV and I'll vote elsewhere. 3. Why aren't you interested in the first vote on you? 4. I feel you're playing less chaotically and more subdued than you have in your previous games and am questioning if this is attributable to an alignment shift. I also think the +1 of DeTess's question seemed fairly performative (why care about trying to understand my views if this wasn't of concern in previous V!Alpha games, or if they're not particular things you're interested in engaging with? The question was going to be answered one way or another), and given the number of times I've seen you in thread, don't feel a lack of interest in solving reflects well. 5. If I don't even minimally read you, why shouldn't I vote for you?
  3. What is it? Curious minds wish to know. @Alvron?
  4. @DeTess - To spell it out, to me, it's a good look that TJ hit the ground running and tried to offer a read-relevant thought on Mat, even if I don't fully agree with it or didn't quite feel I could agree with that read at that juncture. When I alluded to his recent behaviour, I was drawing a contrast to TJ opening with a gut-based vote in his last Evil game, LG93. That being said, I'm slightly re-evaluating downwards on Mat at this point, in a direction. For other reasons I'd prefer not to currently talk about without more thread presence from others. I temper it with the fact that: 1. It's really early in the game (we're at p2 right now) and I take most early reads in a post-sparse game to especially need qualification because they aren't robust enough, and 2. I always want to V read TJ, to the point of making excuses for E!TJ (see: LG93 which was a game of me consistently making excuses for E!TJ.) So I am recently reminded I need to be wary of my impulse to offer a positive read of TJ. Which is basically the thought process behind my entire 'yo I kinda want to but also not' and 'actually I don't think I can give you credit for denying a read' line of thought right there.
  5. I'm asking to what extent my use of Digimon reads mattered to you or otherwise hampered you in LG93, where I deliberately used Gomamon's evolutionary line for Village reads, and Gizamon's evolutionary line for Evil reads, and Shakkomon for null reads. Basically I'm questioning what motivates this interest in this part of the game given your involvement so far has been the joke vote on Mat for the pun :eyes:
  6. No. I'm using it loosely at this point, partway between a numerical system and a degree one. = mild/weak V lean. = normal Village read, stronger than . I have prepared a bunch of tiers along Patamon's evolutionary line for stronger V reads and E reads and nulls but we'll activate that Crest when we get to it. Either way, I'll always be happy to qualify what I mean but Digimon reads have brought me great joy in SE so I'm not about to abandon them. Edited to add: Did that stop you in LG93? :eyes:
  7. Huh. Okay, I'm taking back this response. I looked again and realised I wasn't clear (my bad) that I was wrestling with a nascent, weak lean of you so I can't therefore extend you any credit, however small, for not wanting to lean into the lean. Edited to add: Sigh. More unclarity on my part. This 'you' refers to @|TJ| >>
  8. Two things: you made a mech clear comment there rather than anything to do with your views on anon voting mech, and I checked both TKN's approval PMs. As a side-note, I'd like us to go one game without bringing that up because while it's technically game views, it's not that publicly accessible and feels kind of wrong to be drawing too much on it as a result. Second thing, care to elaborate that stance for me? Still sick, don't want to dig through everything for it, sorry about it in the way that's apparently common between Singaporeans and Canadians I thought my not getting it was just RNGesus judging me for having nine writing projects and zero progress on any of them </3 Grrrr. Why must you make me slightly question my thoughts on you >:( It's only p2 for Gomamon's sake.
  9. Fair. In a slight twist of irony, I'm curious as to why the change of heart from: Because I will give you this, Archer: you guys caused me a significant amount of annoyance in QF59, over and above the annoyance of not randing Village I will add here I don't substantively disagree with these sorts of responses but do find them to be a tad vacuous or trivially true. It's about as trivially true as saying 'technology isn;t inherently good or bad, it's how you use it.' Or 'it depends' - to which the answer usually is: 'Depends on what, potatoes?' (Yes, aware this includes DeTess.) Some of this is probably my inner TA speaking. Some of this is me thinking aloud about the responses that have emerged. I will say for what it's worth that I'm a tad more - I don't know if suspicious is the word, but I'm squinting more at Archer and Mat at this juncture.
  10. Thing is, it's a read so I'm sort of mildly feeling positive about this response? But I'm also trying to rein back because I always wanna read you. Hmm. Interesting. Fair, thanks for the heads-up. Interesting Mat still thinks it's E!leaning despite the failure, then. Mind elaborating a bit about the highlight here? Oooh I just got ninjaed by Aman lemme get a tea and more meds and come baaaaaack to this. Edited to add: Ngl I low key want to slightly this but am aware Aman of either alignment would say this, which is...vexing >> Wouldn't expect otherwise K tea for real.
  11. It's not vote manip though. It's anon voting with the twist you might lose your vote. It's also widespread in that everyone has it so I think anon voting mech games like QF59 and Ash's game are a better comparator than say, Tyrian vm. Edited to add: Also, I'm not sure it's much of a deviation - my thesis can be summarised in this single statement: Given I don't usually have a strong stance on vote manip going one way or another (and have endorsed vote manip baiting at at least one point in SE history), I'm curious as to where your views are coming from.
  12. I maintain that Rysntly Departed was such a good pun I am best Kas I am proud of myself :3 Funny thing is IDK if I agree with that/how much I do. Intuitively yes, I feel it's Elim leaning, but I think about how much stress y'all caused us C1 of QF59 and I'm not really sure it is. Yes, I used it to exe Ash later on (sorry, E!me for clarity for anyone not following this) but I think I was lucky to escape coming down under too much Village pressure due to the fact it was one cycle away from lylo. Secret-voting Ash was just a bad vote I should struggle to justify. I don't think it's naturally V leaning either, unless played cleverly. Not really making a "iT's HoW yOU UsE iT dUrrhhHH" statement here, just more a "I kind of think this feels more E leaning intuitively than it should be." The part that also does make me think it goes E is the chance of vote loss, of course. Your vote is your superpower and all that, so losing it isn't particularly great if you Village. @Elandera Can players use VitC to deliberately cast a no vote btw?
  13. Early days. Homesteaders talking, at the waystop. Mordekai had found his way there, after the sign in the dew, the sign in the morning, the darkness in the glade. Whispers of evil among them, those who sought to summon—that which could not be named, Warmmha forbid. To call that which slept back into the world. You walked a dangerous line, in the Forests of Hell. You knew there were things out there, things left better undisturbed. Things no man's mind could possibly comprehend. You knew they were better left alone, forgotten. You worshipped at your altars, held your struck medallions, prayed to Warmmha, that in his kindness, Warmmha would send fresh grass and warm sunlight. And when you got older, when your knees and back ached, as Mordekai's had begun to do, you prayed for a good, kind death, when the end came. You prayed to see the face of your God. Brief mutters among the homesteaders. Mordekai listened. Warmmha had not taken him yet, and as long as he drew breath, there was the evil of men to foil. He thought he knew a little of that, in his time. You saw things, if you got old enough. Iniquity, selfishness...worse deeds. Fell deeds. None that stuck in the mind like a sign in the dew. No urgency, in the murmurs. A few suspicions tossed here and there, but no one currently seemed inclined to pursue anything in earnest. But that was usually the problem, either way you sliced it. Early days. The slower start from Prey was interesting to Mordekai. It stood out. He remembered Prey being less hesitant, a little faster. But another hesitance. He liked Prey, was easily tempted to cut the man slack when he shouldn't. He kept his eyes open for Sam [OOC: Archer.] It usually paid to be—wary of witches, especially if they sought to call the Dark Powers back into the world. [OOC: My heart wants to award TJ half a for that opening. My heart often betrays me when it comes to TJ. Watching for now. I don't disagree about E!Mat and passive-aggressive responses to votes but don't really agree with this read/question at this juncture. The heart wants what it wants.] Edited to add: To be clear, I dunno how long I'll keep up the RP style but will at least try with regard to the Digimon reads. Am tired and COVID is scything through my entire household atm. I'm more or less coming down myself unfortunately. To spark some discussion - anyone here see a Village-sided usecase for VitC? IIRC QF59 (?), it can be used to make the Elims just a tad more jumpy about final vote totals and force them to draw themselves out a bit more in voting (dependent on risk appetite.) I don't treat the loss of accountability as a very big issue until near lylo because functionally weird changes will need to answer to the thread following the cycle. I'm interested in what happened on previous runs though: @Amanuensis, @Matrim's Dice, @Ashbringer, @Sart, @Araris Valerian - flagging you lot as the ones who played one iteration or another. What happened to VitC back then?
  14. Smh Kasir was fun and I didn't know how to play Village then Can't say I know how to play Village now either but at least people are less prone to ML me for it?
  15. You don't need a derpclear when you get a broclear :eyes: Araris says you Evil but my heart says you must be Village bhai and surely it never lies to me!
  16. Who needs rules where we goin'? :eyes:
  17. Morning comes, slowly, in the Forests of Hell. Light through the thick overhanging boughs. It is unreasonably cool, and the last of it lingers over the grass as a light mist. A hint of translucence, here and there. Mordekai likes to think of it as a reminder. In the Forests, even if you can't see them, the shades are always there, willing to screw you over if you can't follow the Simple Rules. He stoops to tend to the fire. No rings of silver in this homestead, not all around it. Anata had kept the silver around the cellar, in her time. He feels the familiar tightness in his throat at the memory. Kindling flame angers the shades, but this fire he has kept tended, since the day they first settled down in the abandoned Consolation homestead. Tending a flame...risky business, but he likes his nights warm, his food cooked. They make small allowances, in the Forests. He straightens up against the ache in his knees and his back. Wonders, not for the first time, about the wisdom of remaining here, so far away from the waystop. But there is a peace in this remoteness. A solace in solitude, the fact he can go days without hearing the voice of another. (Except Anata. But that is a sorrow undiluted, for all the time that has passed.) He tends to the small shrine as well. In other homesteads, he has seen shrines to the God Beyond. But Warmmha called, and so Mordekai came. He likes to think he is too old, too set in his ways to change now. As he pushes open the door, there in the dew, he sees it. A single moment. A single, terrible abomination, a flung obscenity into the beauty of the day. Something the mind flinches from, screams and cowers into a corner of the shed. Blobs stabbing incomprehensible nightmarish flashes behind the soft jelly of his eyes. A sharp taste of copper. For a moment, part of Mordekai fears he's transgressed, drawing his own blood. To be careless in Hell's maw is to be dead. He clings to it, to the taste of wet copper, to the lozenge-shaped talisman, shapes a prayer to Warmmha. The moment passes. The heavy copper, with a touch of rot, fades away, whatever it was. And Mordekai is left, staring the knotted—sign, whatever it is—of twigs and bark, set out in the wet grass. Something wicked this way comes. The thought rises, unbidden. He allows it. He doesn't know what it is, but knows already that the taint of it has marred this morning, the other mornings to come. Oh, thank Vikemon this is after the deadlines steeplechase >> Signing up as Mordekai, an elderly homesteader and recluse. (Is it too soon to make a Mordekai Kenobi joke?)
  18. Unfortunately going to have to pull out. Last minute urgent work request that is going to leave me swamped through next week. Have fun, everyone!
  19. Siiiiiiiigh. Fiiiiiiiiine Guess it's time to dust off low-commitment Kas >> I mean it, people. I have seven writing projects, inspiration has exploded, and I need to deliver and actually finish all the WIPs >> Opening a flatbread place in the middle of Tyrian Falls wasn't what some people would call a 'wise business decision.' Personally, Kaider thought they were fools. Baked flatbread with shredded, melted cheese and bits of meat and tomato sauce on the top was going to dominate the baywrap industry. In fact, it was the future of fast food, if you had the vision. And weren't the sort to commit blasphemy by adding sliced pineapple to the mix. Just Kaider, thank you. Shaken, not stirred. What, you thought it was his real name? Don't be a fool. No one in the 'business' tells you their real name, not on the first ride anyway. Wasn't a fan of those alliterations neither. "Hey Kaider," said Quell. "I'd like a pizza." "For the twentieth time," Kaider snarled, through his teeth, "It's not a-" "I'd like a piece'o that." Kaider sucked in a deep breath. If he could deal with that stupid, stupid name that the villagers of Tyrian Falls had bequeathed his culinary masterpiece, his creation. Who the hell named something that delicious a pizza anyway? Signing up as Kaider, local flatbread dealer, who will actually murder you if you dare call it a pizza. Edited to add: @The Known Novel - Do we send you the PM order and you make it, or DIY but making the PM hard-commits you to having given up your action?
  20. Holy Gomamon. I just realised there's conversion >> Nvm, please remove me from the pinch-hitter list, thanks!
  21. Damnit, you're right! What the hell was I thinking? The r**d word in SE usually presages: -Screaming -Things catching fire -Violence -General chaos -Mob violence -People dying -*Occasional Elim death Stop using the r**d word today and save lives! SE Villager lives are in your hands!
