  1. So I am dumb. I don't know how to create user pages. Or maybe I am creating them, but maybe I can't delete my own user pages. I dont know.

I created one by doing my username:seon. I thought that was right, but I don't seem to any more control over it than I do regular pages.

    Help?

    [edit]

And who should I ask to delete all the stupid test pages I made trying to make this work?

  2. Personally, I think it is totally possible, but mostly limited by the perceptions of the people. If you read Defending Elysium, Brandon has had ideas of brain-created weapons that are very fast, powerful, and focused, and I wouldn't be suprised if that was possible in this universe as well. But nobody thinks like that. The thought of a projectile weapon faster than an arrow may be tricky to grasp.

  3. Hmmm, I don't remember Mai where did they show up? There is also Aeo from the Hope of Elantris short story.

Mai was a Seon that contacted Ashe to let him know Sarene was in danger in Teod.

“Your Majesty!” Ashe said, zipping across the courtyard. “A Seon just spoke with me. The princess! She is in Teod, my lord. My kingdom is under attack as well!”

    ...

“Hurry, my lord!” Ashe exclaimed with fear. “She’s in danger. Mai—he’s watching the princess now. He says she’s surrounded. Oh, Domi! Hurry!”

    (Chapter 62)

I decided to reread Elantis again before reading "Hope Of", so I guess now I can read hope. :)

  4. So, about 2/3rds of the way through the book this time, I decided to track the Seons. But I missed some I think, and finding that stuff back in the book is tricky. Here is what I have:

    Seons:

    • Ashe (Salene’s)

    • Dio (Eventeo’s)

    • Opa (Roial’s)

    • Ien (Raoden’s)

    • Mai (Riika's from Hope of Elantris. Also a Seon in Teod. Same one?)

    • Aeo (Matiss's from Hope of Elantris)

    • Hrathen’s?

Any others that anyone can think of?

    [Edit]

I added some info about Mai, and added the Seon Aeo from Hope of Elantris.

  5. This is awesome work! And thanks for the quote of Raoden putting in one extra line when he first figured out the problem. I had been trying to figure out why it worked that he only put in one line at the end when he fixed the city's Aon. But I can get behind needing only one chasm line on the first base set of lines.

But, here is my question. Why are Brandon's drawings different than the map from the book?

When I went through the book this last time, I imagined the changed Aon to look like this:

    [EDIT]

That is what I get for not checking for other threads. Here is a whole discussion. :)

  6. Aether said: "Maybe more open to outside influences, but not direct control." I'm suggesting, not positing, that wider cracks MAY let Odium affect a broken soul, whether by direct control or influence. It's a common trope, not just used in Mistborn, but that doesn't make it the less effective a plot device.

So, now that we've established I'm a bad punster, what about the substance of my OP: Do you think too much Stormlight can further break down an already broken soul? Do you think that's what's happened with Nale and the other heralds?

I think it is a very interesting idea. I have been wondering how Odium affects people.

However, I don't think that is what is happening. Every other example I can think of where people draw too much magic, they do not become more susceptible to influence or control. Their body changes, they become addicted, or even die.

But, maybe Odium can affect those whose minds (not just their souls) are cracked. There is some evidence that Vin's mother was affected by Ruin, simply because she was crazy. So perhaps if the Heralds have been through event terrible enough that their minds cracked, Odium could exert some control.

  7. I don't know if Brandon read any of the Worthing books. They are among Card's lesser known works. I haven't read them myself, and I've read a lot of Card.

Peter, you haven't read the Worthing Saga? You know, I just have to accept that what I have done is not what other people have done. Silly, I know, but surprising to me none the less.

The Worthing Saga might have been the third Card book I ever read as a kid, after Wryms (which I didn't like very much) and Ender's Games (which I did, a lot!). Worthing Saga retains a fond place in my heart as one of the nifty stories that got me hooked on Card.

Later, as an adult, I found Hot Sleep, and didn't realize it was parts of the same story until I was halfway through the book and was confused by my ability to guess what was going to happen next in the story.

  8. So I was looking in Google play at the list of Sanderson books I don't yet own, trying to decide what to get next, when I noticed Firefight is available for preorder. Awesome I thought, until I noticed the release date. Jan of next year! I can't wait that long for another full-length Sanderson novel! (Sad face)

  9. I run business websites and servers, and here is my two bits:

Heartbleed made it possible for hackers to possibly discover your username and passwords on many of the websites out there in the world. However, it is not all connected. They would have to go dig into a single server and do a bunch of work to figure out some of the passwords there. If they happened to figure out your password on one site, it doesn't tell them anything about any other site you use. (Even if you use the same username and password on multiple systems, they have no information about what other sites you use)

AND, once the problem was found, it was fixed by many sites in a few days. So most of the sites you would go to are no longer at risk. (Kirkistan listed a link to a site that will test sites for the problem. Or do a search for "test heartbleed")

And here is how it affects any of us. Hackers are not going after every site on the internet, they dont have time. They are going to go after valuable sites first. So, if you use a Banking site, or PayPal, or something else with money, or if you have a site that has personal information you are worried about, change the passwords there. Other sites like this one that are just for fun are not likely at risk. And even if they did get hacked, what is someone going to do, post a bunch of rude posts in my name?

Anyway, doesn't hurt to change passwords, just to be safe.

  10. Can you Take back a Divine breath After awakining with it, if you still had more breaths?

I think the answer would be yes, if the answer is yes to the follow:

    1) Can you use your Divine breath while still holding on to other Breath?

    2) While you have to have to have Breath to live when you are a Returned, can it be something other than Divine Breath? Maybe 2000 Breaths or more?

I can't think of any indication one way or the other on the first, because of course we never saw an indication of a Returned using his Divine Breath when he didn't use all his Breath.

Personally I think the answer to the second is no. I think being Returned is getting the Divine Breath, which brings you back to life. Without that Divine Breath, I don't Returned can survive.

  11. I have been reading everything lately on Google books. But I did not even think about using it for notes. It might be very useful to highlight all the Hoid appearances and what have you. I am going to have to see how it works on my computer also. Thanks for the idea.

  12. That is interesting to think about. I thought TLR was the first one to go there. That would imply Ruin was only imprisoned 2000 years or so before the books.

But then do we know for sure the well wasn't filled when Preservation imprisoned Ruin? In other words, what if the well just sat there full for who-knows how many years before TLR used up the power?

  13. Hi, I am new to all of this and loving it. However, because I am new, please be kind if these ideas have already been discussed at length, or if I am missing something obvious.

So here is my theory: The mad-man who calls himself Taln, and announced the coming of the Desolation, is not actually Taln, the Herald.

    Here was my thought process:

I was pondering who might have the other two Honorblades that are out in the world, and I thought of the Blade Dalinar got from Taln, and I was like "Yes! Dalinar has one... wait, he got rid of it."

It then seemed to me that it was not an Honorblade at all. The Stormfather called it an abomination, and didn't Dalinar hear screams? And apparently from WoB (I haven't looked it up) you don't bond with Honorblades, but Dalinar bonded with his.

But, if Taln didn't have an Honorblade, could he even be a Herald? I can't imagine how Heralds could stand to bond (or even hold) dead-spren blades.

I guess there has been some speculation about if Hoid could have swapped the blades, but I guess WoB says no. Some discussion of it here: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/6698-missing-honorblade/

And I read somewhere that Brandon referred to Taln as "He who calls himself Taln", so maybe he is not even Taln.

I know he exhibited superhuman reflexes and speed, but there could be other reasons for that, possibly? :)

Anywho, there you go. My first posting, and my first theory.
