  1. Thanks! I agree. I wasn't sold on the faceless immortal part, but I figured throw it in on the off chance. Good point. It would run parallel to the allomancy breeding programs. It would also explain how bleeder knew/had access to the speed ferring. That is a good point. It was never mentioned in the flash backs whether or not Telsin had a feruchemical ability (or at least as much as I can recall). Those are all good points. Edwarn mentions that they had learned how to spike someone and leave them alive, though weakened, but that would only make sense producing multiple spikes if we were talking only about gold. As you said a-steel and a-chromium was mentioned. Hmmm. I would say Irich was the one they were using to take powers and weaken, but he seems to act like his affliction was already in place and was looking to the Set for salvation.
  2. Although not the balancing you speak of, Spook does use his savantism to "sense" and hear when and how swords are swung at him to dodge them. So you could kind of say Assassin Creed stuff like when you get surrounded, and counter everyone seemingly effortlessly.
  3. No problem. Glad it all got clarified. That is a point regarding voice actors. I would agree and say that a different voice actor should have been used so not to be as obvious, but then again the tone of the written epigraphs was written with the intention to sound like him to provide that hint. Just unfortunately having the same exact voice might have made that hint a bit too obvious. Either way, glad you are enjoying the books all the same!
  4. As @Impact said, you would be basically cutting along the same line, so there would be no additional cut. I think what you are envisioning is more like a claw weapon. I have also seen a sword where there is a blade next to another blade, meant to catch and twist an enemy's blade out of their hand though I cannot seem to locate it. That could potentially work too. edit: just saw Impact's next post. good points.
  5. I've been re-reading Bands of Mourning, and I came across a brief comment from Wax about Telsin. He says how despite Telsin always trying to sneak away from the Village, yet when their year there was up, Wax returned (much to Edwarn's sense of victory), while Telsin stayed. Later Edwarn mentions it was Telsin that recruited him, not the other way around. So with next to no actual evidence to back it up, a part of me thinks Telsin was recruited by the Set while at the Village, which is why she stayed. Now the full on crackpot part of the theory. Wax's grandmother is the one that recruited her. The potential motivation is that the Village is all about returning to that Terris ideal, back before Harmony "fixed" everything. Sazed was also considered a "rebel" among the original Synod. Maybe the Grandmother wanting to go back to that ideal, blames Harmony and was a ranking member of the Set. She then recruits Telsin through giving her tidbits of secrets. Or potentially the Grandmother is one of the Set's "faceless immortals" and was keeping an eye out for potential recruits among the village, with other Set "faceless immortals" keep eyes and ears open in other locations as well. TLDR: Whole theory is based on one little sentence, so got barely anything to stand on, but thought it was an interesting idea.
  6. To comment on the portion I chose to comment on. Which I did. So now I'm done.
  7. Once again, waiting on the OP to ring in.
  8. Once again, you are entitled to theorize, and hold that as your opinion. Wasn't arguing that. All I stated was the portion regarding understanding and speaking any language was not limited. So good luck with your theory, I have no intention of discussing it.
  9. And I was never referring to any other abilities than the ability to speak and understand languages through connection. You said Odium would limit it. I said based on the WoB and other instances, the ability to speak and understand languages has not been limited. You then brought up other abilities. I never at any point referred any other abilities than speaking and understanding languages.
  10. And I already quoted that the OP says they think it is obviously Sazed (their words). I am not doing this with you. I tagged the OP. They will confirm one way or the other.
  11. And I was referring to the ability to speak and understand any language.
  12. Then you didn't read the OP's post. I will wait for their response.
  13. The OP is asking to be spoiled. "I'm listening to the audiobooks and have not read the books themselves. Do the readers know who the narrator is in Book 3 or is the audiobook giving us more clues than we should have? In the audiobook, it's obviously Sazed that is reading those tidbits at the start of the various chapters, which brings me to guess that he is going to become some sort of god, either Preservation itself or some sort of new entity that will absorb/imprison Ruin. I feel like I shouldn't be able to make this kind of guesses, am I right ? Are they anonymous in the physical book or are they signed Sazed or whatever name he has after his transformation from human to godhood ?" The OP has already decided and for themselves deduced the source of the epigraphs. They are only asking if the book was as obvious. I will tag the OP so they may confirm or deny @darkmoods could you please clarify?
  14. GyozaGuy Allik Neverfar has those medallions that let him to talk to people in their language, but he has an accent because it knows his parents aren't from that area. So I'm wondering, if he and his parents are both using those in a foreign land, does he no longer have an accent and his parents would? Brandon Sanderson I would say that they would both still have an accent. GyozaGuy So it's not connected-- Brandon Sanderson It's connecting to the soul of his parents and it's kinda picking that out. There are ways around that. If you are really good with the way Connection works and things like that. Obviously you've seen Hoid speaking without an accent all over the place. The medallions are kind of a crude, early version of doing that sort of thing, not really in control of the magic more, and so I wanted to build in some little indications that things are not quite as fluid as they will someday get. GyozaGuy So it's more of a hack and not a rewrite of the Connection. Brandon Sanderson Yeah, exactly. Bluebar It's not a direct link from them to the Investiture. Brandon Sanderson Yeah. If you find someone who's using the magic themselves, you'll see that they-- like Dalinar didn't have, the people who spoke with Dalinar didn't have accents when he was using the same sort of Connection magic to give them linguistics and things like that. FanX Spring 2019 (April 19, 2019) Venli has no issue of accents when going from speaking to an Alethi Parshendi, to a Fused. Both have different languages than her own.
  15. You are entitled to theorize that way and hold that opinion, but the fact of the matter is Venli has envoy form that enables her to speak and understand any language, human, parsh, or otherwise. As every instance of language translation we have seen involves connection (both on and off Roshar), as well as WoB confirm translation concerns connection, then I believe Venli's envoy form works with connection.
  16. As per the OP's post: " I feel like I shouldn't be able to make this kind of guesses, am I right ?" The OP is asking for confirmation.
  17. Venli's regal form allows her to understand and speak all languages, much like Dalinar's adhesion when he touches someone.
  18. Glad to hear it holds up all the way through!
  19. Thank you. Now back to the thread. The fabrial revolution I think would revolutionize Roshar. Gravitation fabrials alone would have huge ramifications.
  20. You are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to mine.
  21. So is this entire thread. Breeding chasmfiends is your opinion. Not thinking synthetic gemstones can be a thing is your opinion. Me thinking synthetic gemstones can be a thing is an opinion. Me thinking chasmfiends cannot be bred is an opinion. An opinion can be supported with a valid argument. I think the arguments I have used to support my opinion are valid. You disagree. To each their own.
  22. That's my point. As per Chekhov's Gun, the horse should be removed.
  23. Yes it is: "In other words, everything that is introduced in a story needs to have a function." Thereby it had no function, so why include it. Chekhov's gun.
  24. I disagree that they are substantially different. I think the analogy fits.
  25. I thought Chekhov's gun is pretty open and shut. It is when something is called attention to, or brought up meant to imply importance, only for it to mean nothing. I believe Game of Thrones's season finale is an example of this. Just one off the top of my head
