DR< L DR< L DR< L DR< L A line of Dustbringers shoot waves of flame outward. Or better option, Skybreakers over head using division to carpet bomb the area as they fly by.
-
Personally that falls into the same category for me as the whole theory that because she smiled when she countered Kaladin during their argument, means she is interested. She smiled the same exact way with Amaram, and she was holding her hand out glowing with stormlight ready to soulcast him if he swung his sword at her. So for me, I do not see anything more there. But to each their own. That still doesn't change that Jasnah as per her character would not force marriage onto anyone, especially her beloved nephew. If Renarin does not want to marry someone, Jasnah is not going to make him.
-
The ole trick in DnD for getting around illusions is carpet bomb the area. Doesn't matter how or where the enemy hides, they will still get hit. So theoretically dustbringers could handle lightweavers.
-
What do you think would need to happen to cause Brandon to change his mind on this?

Congrats on your PhD and congrats to your coworker (Not being sarcastic. Genuinely congratulating you). As to the rest of your response, I already responded to these points. I could always copy paste if you would like, but assuming you did already read them, then repeating them would accomplish nothing. So agree to disagree. To each their own.

Makes sense. On So I could see that.

I am still deciding where I want to take Edelgard. Ironically enough I never get interested in building the primary character, nor the "hero". The personal skills of extra exp never really interest me lol. Though Edelgard's hidden talent increasing her avoid with black magic makes me contemplate mortal savant for her. Hmmm, thanks for the heads up. I made Petra my thief. I have to check out her speed stat. Hopefully it is enough. If not, then I guess im going Death Knight hunting lol. I really want Hubert to end up a Dark Knight. So when you get the dark seal, if I use it to turn him into a dark mage, can I think progress him through the others (dark bishop, dark knight), or do I need to get a dark seal from the death knight each time to progress it?
-
Yeah, I mentioned earlier this was all conjecture. Fabrial revolution, breeding chasmfiends, breeding shelled beasts with larger gemhearts, researching synthetic gemstones. All theoretical. I would rather not beat a dead horse and go over my arguments again, so I will leave it at agree to disagree.
-
Ah I gotcha. I'm going armored knight with him, so I think that helps with his survivability.

Gotta say I agree with Karger here. Jasnah came up with the idea of Shallan and Adolin marrying, but it was Navani that rushed it along. Jasnah was worried that Shallan would be offended by the presumption, and offered to cancel the whole thing if Shallan was not ok with it. And that was a marriage that would benefit Jasnah's family as Shallan was a burgeoning Radiant (at the time Jasnah did not know about Dalinar and Renarin's radiancy). So I can't really see her forcing Renarin to marry someone. Add to that her love for Renarin, and personally I don't see it.

So yes there are three "selfs" to a person. The physical self, the cognitive self, and the spiritual self. Thing is Brandon in WoB has called the spiritual self/spirit web the soul on multiple occasions. However he has also clarified that the spiritual self goes to the spiritual realm and hangs out there for a long time, while something "else" moves on to the beyond. What the Beyond is and whether it actually exists or not is meant to be left ambiguous. That way theists and atheists can exist side by side within the novels with neither being right nor wrong.

Yeah the more I think about it, the more I think there is something there. How convenient it is that the steel runner Bleeder used was from the Village. The Village trying to keep the bloodlines pure would know every feruchemical ability of everyone in the village. Good point. The red haze is interfering with what he can do and see, so they could be operating under that.
-
There are WoB as well as quotes from Jasnah that state Radiants do not have to be combat orientated. You could be a pacifist dustbringer. You could be a windrunner afraid of heights (that example is specifically mentioned in WoB). Nothing says because you are a member of an order that you have to behave in a certain manner. You just have to live the ideals based on your interpretation of them. For instance, an elementary school teacher is very protective of his or her students, and leads them in learning. He or she could be a windrunner. A general is very logical and methodical in his or her battle planning. He or she could be an Elsecaller (also an example specifically mentioned in WoB).
-
In that WoB as well as I believe two or three others, Brandon states pretty explicitly that ripping off a chunk of a person's "soul" is very bad.

Used correctly, Allomancy could be very useful in a peaceful world as well. Steel and Iron for flying around. Suddenly don't have to waste gas on driving everywhere. Pewter for moving furniture, carrying heavy packages, lots of groceries. Tin for watching a movie or tv show super low so you don't wake up your spouse. Brass and Zinc to encourage or calm your friends (with their express permission of course). Cadmium and Bendalloy for fun time bubble tricks. Waiting for a movie? Cadmium. Need to do some last minute things? Bendalloy. True it requires a little thinking outside the box, but I think being a mistborn could be very beneficial.

What builds did you both have for him? That was Bernadetta in the beginning for me, because I switched her from bow and arrow, to sword to go myrmidon to mercenary to get vantage. The goal is to go crit machine with low HP, possibly ending up as Wyvern Lord or Falcon Knight. At first a tap would almost kill her. Had to have a healer near by constantly and support ready to move in front of her to protect her. Now that she hit mercenary, she hit her stride

It is possible to store more than the standard five senses: BartimaeusTrilogyFan Can Feruchemists store more than the five ‘traditional’ senses, and does Allomantic tin enhance more than the traditional five senses? Brandon Sanderson More is possible. /r/books AMA 2015 (May 17, 2015)

So two things about this. First did I read this correctly that you had two people using dark seals? Or is this from two different playthroughs? I am on chapter 3 or 4, but I read a really clever trick for getting the dark seal at chapter 6 without having to kill the death knight. Basically kill every other enemy on the map, leaving the death knight and one enemy alive. Have your thief steal the dark seal from the death knight, and then kill that other unit before the death knight can retaliate.

So I tagged @Karger for you as this was Karger's argument, so I figured you would want to discuss this with Karger, and not me. Actually the reason for that knowledge was as Lirin said "the wisdom of the heralds". So my point is, if information can be passed down via the heralds, and be maintained through the desolations, then why not some bits on other sciences? Taravangian's hospitals are quite advanced. I do not think basing the level of scientific knowledge on medicine on a backwater village when we have Kharbranth as an example is entirely accurate. Urithiru fabrial technology uses surges. Surges they now have access to via the knights radiant reborn. Surge fabrials we have seen being used by the heralds, two of which they now have in their custody which Navani can question for insights in fabrial tech. Navani has already drawn up plans for flying ships using gravitation. Actually you can soulcast polestones, just they won't work in soulcasters. Synthetic gemstones on the other hand do. I was not stating that they would create the gemstones with the soulcasters directly. Karger equated that. I stated that through use of the surges of adhesion and division, they could attain the necessary pressure and heat that may be beyond their technology to produce. Thereby enabling them to create gemstones earlier than they would normally coupled with their scientific focus on gemstones due to that resource pervading literally every single level of their lives. Also, I am not saying tomorrow they will go "synthetic gemstones of course!". My point is I could see research going in that direction, and that the research would go faster than in our world due to the need and prevalence of gemstones in their world. And for all the reasons I gave above, I disagree. I think it is very plausible that research could branch in the direction of synthetic gemstones, and yield results.

Forch felt he "had to see what was inside". Wax realized that Forch set things up so as he would not have been caught nor would his true motivations be discovered. Basically he snuck out with Telsin and the other two, but snuck back. The fire would burn up the kid's remains, hiding his crime. When the fire is discovered, and then interview people, he could say he was with them outside the Village. The others would have been too drunk to recall when/if he slipped away. He would have had an alibi to not be in the area, and even if it was pinned on him, the crime would be from setting the building on fire, not killing the kid. The kid would be a missing person. None of that is conjecture. Wax reasons it all himself. I will add the exact scene quoted in a moment. As to my comment on grooming him, I mean more observe him, nudge him this way and that behind the scenes, to see how he grows, then enlist him when the time is right. Like I believe happened with Telsin. Bands of Mourning Page 28 "You went with the girls" Waxillium said "so you'd have an alibi. If your room is found empty, you'll say you were with them. A lesser infraction to hide your true crime. Rusts! My sister and the others don't know that you slipped back, do they? They're out there drunk, and they won't even remember that you were gone. They'll swear you were-" (Wax is cut off because Forch then shoots nails at him)

Thank you! Could be. Would be crazy to find out there was a secret society working against Harmony all this time, and then they get backing from an entity off planet. Or it could be just a part of the overall Set. Thanks! The only people I have seen mentioned regarding the Village was Wax and Telsin's grandmother, Tellingwar (butchered the spelling, but he is the teacher), the brute/coinshot twinborn Wax killed, the steel ferring Bleeder killed, and the three brutes that try and turn Wax away when he goes to see his grandmother. Hey little branch off of my crackpot theory. Maybe the reason Wax's grandmother didn't lock up the brute/coinshot killer is because they were grooming him for the Set? And the reason she was upset with Wax and tried to prevent him from interfering is because she knew Wax would try to get the brute/coinshot arrested, or in this case, get him killed? Makes the memory even more twisted in that view lol.

Stormlight healing Shardblade wounds
Pathfinder replied to King of Herdaz's topic in Stormlight Archive
As per the WoB posted by the others, if Szeth now as a knight radiant got cut by a shardblade, he could heal from it As to why his body seems distorted, that is because of how long he was "dead" before Nale healed him with the fabrial. I will post the WoB as I pull it up. Questioner *inaudible* Brandon Sanderson Yeah the Divine Breath is a gift of investiture directly to the...basically they are being given a large splinter of Endowment. Questioner But is it the size? Brandon Sanderson The size is important, to make that happen, yeah. Questioner To make it happen? Brandon Sanderson To make it happen, yeah. To make them come back and to do the things but...there is obviously some leakage there when they basically taking a cognitive sh...they have to create a cognitive shadow of the spirit, right. Which requires some work, and then to push that back into the body and get it to stick requires some work as well. You'll see that with Szeth it isn't sticking very well. Questioner *inaudible* Brandon Sanderson Yeah Szeth is not a cognitive shadow, he actually got stuck back in but the soul is not sticking very well to the body Questioner *inaudible* Brandon Sanderson That's what she's saying. @cometaryorbit wrote: "Plus how do you control something that size?" Which is one of the arguments I had earlier in this thread, and you responded that you would not put them in captivity. You would "free range" them, using windrunners to keep track of them. Which I still do not personally see, but as cometaryorbit is the one that brought it up again, please continue that discussion with him or her as he or she is the one that brought it up again. That has to do with the cut of the gemstones. The more perfect the cut, the less stormlight is lost, the more efficient the power usage. Size has to do with power storage and output. The larger the fabrial, or more power required to do something, the larger the gemstone required.

I think you are focusing too much on Earth analogues. Roshar has antisceptic and washing hands, which was not a thing till the 19th century. Roshar has anesthesia (daze water which is clearly ether Way of Kings page 583) which wasn't introduced/used till the 19th century (yes ether was around for a long time, but it was not employed in surgery till then. Prior to its introduction, people were tied down, and given opium and the like, which did nothing to alleviate pain). Worldbuilding is when you put something into a world, and go "what if?". Roshar now has access to climate control (indoor heating), "electric" elevators, food production, and waste disposal that even we do not have access to. So I believe it is reductionist to say "they wouldn't have that because we didn't have that" when we see there are a whole lot of things they have that we don't even have today. It is disregarding a magic system that pervades the entire planet fueled by a natural resource that does not exist on our planet. It is disregarding the continual desolations that destroyed technology yet some information got carried over through the Heralds. Can it be argued that medicine was passed down because of its immediate importance? Sure! But if we are reasoning that the reason forging was not passed on in favor of soulcasting, then why not progression and medicine? Yet medicine persisted. We don't know what was passed down by the heralds. Now true that does not mean anything is possible, but based on what I have read and seen, I do not think it excludes the possibility of them developing in that direction. You disagree, and I respect that, but I still feel my arguments are valid. The way fabrials work is the type of gemstone determines the effect. The cut determines the stormlight efficacy, and the size determines the amount of stormlight it can hold and be used at a time. Also the bigger it is, the less likely to shatter. The fabrial in Navani's notebook was showing a fabrial with multiple types of gemstones to accomplish a number of tasks. If she wanted that fabrial to make lights based off of emotions that cause a spotlight into the sky, she will need larger gemstones. Adolin remarks on this on Way of Kings page 221. That the more "spectacular" fabrials need large gemstones to function. The less likely to shatter on page 224. I believe there are more clear quotes, but I have not the time to pull them up at the moment, so till I do, here is a reference from the wiki for now till I pull those up https://stormlightarchive.fandom.com/wiki/Gemstone And given the size of a Chasmfiends gemheart is the size of a human head, and the size of a chasmfiend when compared to a human, I do not think breeding something that size is feasible. But that is my own opinion Both arguments I have made, but have been told is not a problem. So I suggest you direct that towards Karger. Answered this earlier in this post. The heating fabrial has a large gemstone.
