I was just thinking this myself. I checked the part in the book, and Kaladin was standing at the base of the chasmfiend due to his damaged leg. Shallan climbs up the chasmfiend at first by herself. Then once at the top of the chasmfiend, she changes the shardblade to a dagger. After she carves the handholds and the recess into the wall, THEN Kaladin climbs up the chasmfiend and then the wall to join her. So I do not think it would be a stretch that he didn't see the change from where he stood, light headed from lack of blood and worried about a highstorm coming.

Jasnah at the end of WoR and I believe another character at another point (Syl i think?) state how the Everstorm is the first of its kind. Thats NOT how voidbringers transformed in the past. We do not know how they did in the past, but Jasnah says herself that everything she learned from the highspren about how it was done before could be null and void (buda bum tss) due to the everstorm. The stormform listeners summoned the everstorm but were not the result of them. So it is an assumption on everyone's part that now that the everstorm is flying over the country, that it will transform the parshman but given it has never happened before, it is still just a reasoned assumption

[Speculations] Oathpact & Recreance
Pathfinder replied to Rhaegar'Elin's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree with you, but I was just pointing out given the information we have, it could be argued the other way too to show that the theory regarding the skybreakers although is well reasoned, I do not feel is conclusive. -

That is a good point, but is far from concrete. Elsecallers are stated to deal with "the great ones", does that automatically mean they bond highspren? I am just wary about stating highspren are skybreakers as fact, and especially using that to claim that that means the skybreakers did not break their oath. Theory? Sure. But not definite. -

Ah thank you for the information DreamEternal. So then to clarify for Oversleep, it was my understanding that highspren was the equivalency of class and breed. A doberman, dachshund, and terrier are all dogs, and yet they are different breeds. So there could be multiple types of highspren that bond different orders. At least that was my own understanding, which is why I stated to Moogle I felt that was a broad term, and asked him to confirm if I understood things correctly. -

Can you reference a point in the book, or a WoB that name him a "godspren"? He does claim he is both god and spren when talking to Dalinar, but that is in reference to being a cognitive shadow of Honor after he was killed. If that term was specified then great, i learned something new, but I do not recall seeing that anywhere. I have linked to the wiki where it lists the type of spren: http://stormlightarchive.wikia.com/wiki/Spren_Types -
So upvote for a very well written philosophical talk, but i do feel the need to point out Vin was snapped as a baby due to a traumatic birth on part of her mother. So I do not believe Vin was cognitively aware enough at that moment to have an abnormal emotional response and changed her outlook on life. She just nearly died is all lol.

Highspren is a pretty generic classification. Aren't there other orders like the bondsmiths that also bond highspren? -
I am forgetting the WoB but being broken is a subjective thing. You do not have to go through what Kelsier, or Kaladin did to be "broken" enough to take in investiture. The exact extent however i do not believe has ever been defined.
-
It does when it is against another shardbearer.
-
Adolin uses it against Eshonai at the end of WoR. It has to do with quick sharp jabs with the tip of the blade. I literally just finished a re-read of WoK and WoR which is why this is all so fresh in my mind
-
The padding is mentioned on Adolin when his shardplate is broken apart during his duel against 4 shardbearers. So at least in that case it is there. Perhaps for simplicity sake it wasn't mentioned every single time, just like it is not mentioned about the bridgemen putting their leather armor over their loin cloths every time they run with the bridge.
-
When people talked about Dalinar being a coward, or mad the first response of Adolin and the society was that whoever spoke it should be dueled. I do not think anyone would believe someone fleeing a bout was anything but insane, or a coward by claiming he heard screaming in his head. His house would avoid the topic, and any mention of it would be met with challenges for their honor. Assuming they had any shards left to use to defend it of course.
-
Or it could be viewed as cowardly and utterly humiliating and his family would do whatever they could to avoid speaking of it
-
the lowlives wouldn't know the combat knife is a shardblade. All shardblades to their knowledge are huge buster swords and have never been in any other form. Shallan had commented on the knives her father gave her brothers looked design wise like mini shardblades, but didn't think for a second that a mini shard blade was actually possible.
-
When in the book has there ever been a shardbearer whose eye colors change immediately from dark to light and then back? edit: and i do not mean the week or so i believe it took moash to bond to his blade and then his eyes to lighten. Kal's turns immediate blue, and then after a few hours brown
-
If that was the scenario sure, but that isnt the situation. There are no voidbringers around for him to go all superhero against. All the people would see is horrible evil glowy things killing everyone, and then much later a new thing who is all glowy showing up.
-
Also radiants are still viewed negatively. Going into a situation where you could be surrounded by people holding a deep seated fear and hatred for a group that is indoctrinated into their very religion is pretty problematic. it was hard enough in the warcamps with a highprince on your side. Imagine solo.

At the end of WoR Jasnah has burns on her face when she exits shadesmar. So that can mean one of a few possibilities. Either she cannot heal with stormlight in shadesmar, or she had run out of stormlight by the time she elsecalled back to the physical realm so didn't have a chance to heal it yet, or how she was burned is something outside our experience and stormlights ability to heal

Why Didn’t Renarin Reveal His Radiancy?
Pathfinder replied to ivoryblade's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well random chiming in. I will admit I know very little about autism and or the spectrum. Just a comment about the way the healing magic works, and from everyone's comments. If healing in Sanderson's works work predicated on how a person views themselves, and autism is a core component of a person's personality, then I do not see stormlight healing it regardless the connotation. Whether the person wants it healed, doesn't want it healed, sees it negatively or positively. If Kaladin identifying with his slave brands is enough to cause them to remain, then I don't think it would be humanly possible to divest yourself of your identity (unless your a feruchemist) enough to "heal" it. Just my two clear chips on the matter. Focusing purely on the magic, and not on the ethics of healing it, or not healing it, or whether it should be healed or not. Hope i wrote that well lol -
depends on how you are out in a highstorm. Kal was hung, upside down, high-ish up, facing east where the storms originate. But if someone finds even a small lait, and covers it (like the pole scouts do) there is a good chance of surviving.

He was not dead as in shardblade form. It states in the book that right after Shallan's father placed pattern in the box, he disappeared. Just no one checked the box after, and Shallan convinced herself it was still there. So to just clarify what i wrote, because i reread it and it can sound confusing: sprenblade: instant unless radiant convinces herself it is 10 heartbeats honorblade: instant unless user believes it takes 10 heartbeats shardblade: 10 heartbeats period edit: @stormgate, if i misunderstood your post, i apologize in advance! lol

not weighing in one way or the other, but there have been times where Szeth put a full lashing on an object, and then lashed it down in the direction of his foe resulting it in hitting and sticking to the enemy or in one of the cases, sticking the enemy to the object, and the object to the wall.

Is Mistborn: Birthright ever gonna happen?
Pathfinder replied to KaladinStormblessed's topic in General Brandon Discussion
yeah, i considered buying a ps vita because of gravity rush, but once i read a bunch of reviews saying that it was the only game worth playing on the vita, I felt the price tag became a much bigger issue for me lol- 8 replies

Double post just to share information. It has been widely stated and i do believe there is concrete WoB on it, that the only reason the honorblade took 10 heartbeats to summon, was because Szeth thought there needed to be. Just like Shallan convinced there had to be 10 to summon pattern when she didn't. that changed when she confronted what pattern was, then it became instant
