  1. Would be pretty hilarious. The savors of the planet would be kandra/mistwraiths so gorged on zombie corpses that they can barely move and look more like a giant blobs of translucent flesh the size of buildings.
  2. Would be funny if Spook pulled a holy grail dealie like in the last crusade. He pulses to guard the bands for centuries, only to be too old to stop whoever comes to get them, and die as he explains all he did with hemalurgy and how watching over the bands was his way to atone.
  3. I would be a bendalloy twinborn with a hemalurgic spike bestowing feruchemical gold. I would locate a hobby shop or hardware store for the bendalloy and stock up. Then I would grab something small to eat and drink, like a can of beans and bottle of water. Then compound the nutrition till all the metal I scavenged is full of nutrition and water enough to last me years. This would allow me to avoid food centers that people will be fighting over to get food stores, as well as attracting zombies due to the noise. Since all my food is in metal form, and only I can access it, there would be no need for someone to attack me for my food. It would be useless for them. Assuming we are allowed to reverse compound, this also allows me to when in danger, pop up a speed bubble, run to the edge, drop it, and then pop it up again, run to the edge, drop it, pop it up again and so on till I am far far away. Finally the feruchemical gold is as back up in case I get bit or wounded in general.
  4. I kinda liken it to a full frontal lobotomy. Trying to shove a chunk of brain back up the nose of a lobotomized person isn't going to solve much. Then again I have no idea what would solve it lol.
  5. Maybe "I stole a cookie when my Mom wasn't looking and spoiled my dinner" lol jk
  6. Well my own theory is that Alethkar was the center for training the knights radiant, while Urithiru was where their power base was held. I would need to pull up the quote but in one of Dalinar's past visions, the Windrunner mentions about how Dalinar should go to Alethkar to be trained how to fight and potentially become a knight radiant, and that it was the people of Alethkar's duty to serve everyone else by protecting them. I feel like, and again this is completely just my opinion, that what may have happened was once upon a time soldiers were honored but considered servants to civilians to protect them. Eventually bitterness or something similar happened on the part of the protectors either before or after the betrayal. So now a nation known to serve others because they are fighters and a place to train potential radiants kind of said to itself "wait a minute, here we are fighting and dying for these people and we are like servants to them? storm that!" and a whole society already built on fighting, turned it to being the highest calling and ruling class. Which would be why Alethkar is unique in that almost every other society places more credence on those who work the land (Shin, Horneaters, etc) over those who fight. That then provided Nergaoul a prime playground for the Thrill. But I do not feel it is a genetic trait. I would have to do research, and provide quotes before I claim this is an actual theory I want to post and espouse though. edit: found the part in the book. So turns out I remembered it slightly skewed but the theory in my mind still stands. Urithiru is where the knights radiant trained, but Alethkar is where they lived. "Urithiru is where our orders are centered, but we live in cities all across Alethela". Upon checking the maps from the original 10 heraldic kingdoms and the new map, Alethela and Alethkar have very similar borders. The passage continues "It is our duty and our privilege to stay vigilant for the Desolation. One kingdom to study the arts of war so that others might have peace. We die so that you may live. It has ever been our place. All who can fight are needed, and all who have a desire to fight should be compelled to come to Alethela. Fighting, even this fighting against the Ten Deaths, changes a person. We can teach you so that it will not destroy you. Come to us. Every Pasture needs three things, Flocks to grow, herdsmen to tend, and watchers at the rim. We of Alethela are those watchers - the warriors who protect and fight. We maintain the terrible arts of killing, then pass them on to others when the Desolation comes."
  7. This discussion has side tracked the original thread quite a bit, due to my own actions. The subsequent posts show others trying to get it back on track, so in the interest of that, but also not cutting our discussion short, if it is ok with you I will PM my response to your post in a bit. edit: and this includes indigoajah and treamayne
  8. But it was answered. When Pattern and the other crytics followed her in her drawings, she got back to her room. She tried to get her shardblade, and Pattern asked what is she and she said "I am terrified", to which he replied "That is true" and then she was pulled into shadesmar. So that is her first truth. I could pull up the quote if you need a more exact rendition.
  9. and that certainly ended well.... lol (sorry had to)
  10. Consider how many miles up the plane is flying. Yes Kal and Nin do not need to breathe, and maybe the stormlight helps them deal with the pressure change, but at no point does Kal or Szeth fly up that high. Dalinar's scouts were able to see Kal when he was flying high enough that he thought no one would see him, and we also do not know how much stormlight would be required to fly up that high nonethless have sustained height. So that does not auto discount that being an issue. Although that is an excellent point regarding starspren, that still does not counter the fact that the numerous societies in the know would recognize it not being starspren.
  11. Then why haven't other shardbearer's felt nausea? Nergouel has moved around, so if all it takes to get nauseous is to have a dead shardblade when not feeling the Thrill, then it would have happened to a lot more than three people (Dalinar, Adolin, and Renarin).
  12. There is this exact post/theory in the Shadows of Self Forum. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/52357-era-2-steris-theory/
  13. I see your point, but it wouldn't be powder. That is why I referenced Wayne's ball of gum, not a strip. So you could have some normal size flakes in the center of that ball of gum, that you just chew gingerly. Still like I said i realize it is a stretch, but just spit balling :::badum tsss::: edit: a more extreme version is a small injection system like bane from batman, but not so large or extensive and hidden under your clothes.
  14. Maxel made the point that based on a WoB we have, that we have not seen the POV of a dusbringer yet. Since we have already gotten a POV of Adolin, that would logically lead he would not be one. Now there could be word games, like since Adolin isn't a dustbringer yet then what Brandon said could still apply and Adolin become one, but that is probably a stretch.
  15. This is a stretch but I thought of it because of Wayne. Make a habit of having gum on you (like Wayne). Chew it often. Just unknowingly to everyone else, in the ball of gum are flakes of your allomantic metal. Baddie grabs you and holds gun to your head while you were already chewing your gum like you always do. Swallow the gum you were chewing, you now have your allomantic metal to burn.
  16. Wasn't it that she was terrified and that allowed her to soulcast/pulled her into shadesmar?
  17. Right, so that's why I was saying I am leaning towards those who have theorized that Adolin is a proto-radiant. Before I was on the fence, but upon re-reading that section, I feel it shows that Adolin went through what Dalinar did. That as Dalinar was becoming a radiant, the Thrill ended up having the opposite effect than usual. Instead of inspiring bloodlust and passion, it inspired nausea and disgust. So by extension Adolin is on his way to becoming a radiant. Now whether or not what happened with Sadeas killed that development I have no idea, but I feel I am in agreement with the theory Adolin the proto-radiant.
  18. But if the nausea is the result of withdrawal, then why didn't Dalinar get nauseous from not going on plateau runs for awhile? Why become nauseous only when he starts fighting again? Withdrawal for me is when you go for an extended period of time without the drug. There were varying lengths of time between him going to fights and having the thrill yet there was one instance in particular he felt nauseous. Same thing with Adolin.
  19. Kaladin's soldiers killed a whole bunch of people as ordered by him when he was a spearman for Amaram but the description of how they acted was never the Thrill and the more trained of them were not nauseous. There are other times Adolin fights parshendi without the Thrill and does not feel nauseous. So why at that time, when not feeling the Thrill does he feel nauseous if it is just him?
  20. You both make excellent points and I am torn. Which made me start to write why I agree with each of you, and why i disagree with each of you, but I pulled out my kindle and went to the spot and I am leaning more towards axellence. On page 1002 of my kindle edition Adolin is thinking "Where was the Thrill that usually propelled him through this kind of butchery? He needed it. Instead he felt only nausea. Standing amid the field of the newly dead - the acrid smoke of the burned-out eyes curling up through the rain - he trembled and dropped his blade in disgust. It vanished to mist". The last time we saw someone lose the Thrill and felt nauseous from it was Dalinar, and we was a proto Radiant. The big thing for me is the nausea so strong that he trembled. The impression that I got is that the Thrill fills you with bloodlust, but otherwise if you were a soldier without it and had to kill, you could kill and be fine. Adolin has been killing for awhile, so seeing death is not a new thing to him while with Cien (I think thats the new guys name in Kaladin's group when Kal was a spearman) he puked in his first battle from seeing so much death. So in my opinion, if the Thrill was just absent, Adolin wouldn't have the drive, but he also wouldn't have felt nauseous. Secondly, when the Thrill is mentioned in Eshonai, it isn't from her POV at first. It is from Adolin's. Page 1011 Kindle edition "She was difficult to maneuver. he had only met this Eshonai twice, but he felt he knew her through the way she fought. He sensed her eagerness for blood. her eagerness to kill. The Thrill. He did not feel it himself. he sensed it in her." "Adolin pressed her with a burst of swordplay then he flagged, presenting her with an opening. She took it immediately, swinging for his helm, which leaked from an earlier blow. Yes, she was fully caught up in the Thrill. That lent her energy and strength, but it drove her to recklessness. To ignore her surroundings". Now in the second quote again it could be argued that it was due to her Stormform, but I feel Brandon wouldn't make a point to name the Thrill twice within pages of each other, and have from Adolin's perspective him confirm multiple times that what Eshonai is feeling is the Thrill.
  21. I agree like you said that Nin would easily be mistaken as the assassin in white, and I am also sure if he were to fly around, he would attempt to do it in the most clandestine manner, but that would still result in Mr. T for instance going "well szeth was spotted here, and I didn't tell him to do that, so either he found a way to disobey or....". We know so little about Nin and what the heralds can do, all you said could be right and I am open to the possibility. I was just operating in this case on Occam's Razor. Yes there could be a whole host of things he could do but the only possibilities we do know of for getting from point A to point B quickly on Roshar are transportation or flying using stormlight. In my opinion flying would cause more trouble to accomplish covertly than good, so I feel transportation through shadesmar would be the more likely choice.
  22. But why would an earring plated in Trellium come with a note "just in case, Waxillium."
  23. Dalinar's scouts notice Kaladin Flying across the Shattered Plains and he goes high enough that he thought he wouldn't be noticed. They just assume it is the assassin in white, so they are on guard but do not suspect it is him. By your own reference, the man on the moon is a bunch of people going "oh it looks like that, it must be real", and despite a lot of actual evidence to prove otherwise, some people still believe as such. So now people see a man flying by, yes there will be those that go "naaaaah cant be!", but then there will be, like those people convinced there is a face of a man on the moon, going "it is a man!". Although one instance would be discounted as lunacy, you will have numerous instances in multiple cities, that have absolutely no connection. Then add to the fact that you have multiple secret societies, that although they have varying degrees of knowledge, they do know to look for some weird stuff going on. If Nin wants to prevent a resurgence of knights (or at least that is the prevailing theory), then announcing to the sons of honor, or any other group that hey the heralds have still been around would be detrimental. So I would think he would try to avoid overt displays of his power. Just like when in Azir he sees Lift climbing the wall, but instead of just flying up to the top of the building to catch her, he walks through the whole building to find her.
  24. If he is flying at night because as you said he was wearing black, then the stormlight would make him shine like a star. A star that would be flying from Iri (Ym), over Babatharnam which has the city of Panatham, all of Azir to get to Azimir (Lift), to then fly over Emul, Greater Hexi, and Kharanak to reach the Shattered Plains. For Kal to travel half that from Urithiru to Hearthstone, he expends all of his stormlight (half that referring going just from Azimir to the Shattered Plains by itself). edit: i understand and appreciate you taking the time to clarify that it is you just being passionate, and not upset. edit 2: Just a heads up, but it is generally frowned upon to double or triple post. Just hit the edit button, and add the additional information to an existing post. I personally do not care, but moderators have brought it up to other people in other threads. so just sharing info.
