Every island is Roshar is atop a dead Tai-na
Pathfinder replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
Roshar is not a natural planet. Its form itself is a fractal. The moons are not natural. There remains a lot more to be seen before it can be conclusively stated why and how things occur on a planet that does not function in many ways naturally like earth. -
All of Roshar is a single shell beast
Pathfinder replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
So you have in book references that show chasm fiends only eat rock buds? You also have in book references showing where chasm fiends come from prior to migrating to the shattered planes for pupation? And finally you have in book references that state that chasm fiends feed on stormlight in order to gain their great size? Because it seems like we have read different books. That is all your own theory/opinion with not much actual in book occurrences to back it up. From what I have read, chasm fiends by the time they arrive to the shattered plains are opportunistic feeders. That does not in any way define what was their diet and means of growth prior to arriving at the shattered plains. -

That may occur for some of the islands in that particular area where those creatures reside, but certainly does not definitely prove that all islands are. -

Chasm fiends eat nothing? So they use bridgemen, parshendi, and chulls just to clean their mandibles? For that matter they just have a mouth so they can smile? The only clear case that chasm fiends use stormlight is during pupation -

Yet the Tai-na are not terrestrial, they are the equivalency of shore crabs which have gills. They spend 100 percent of their lives mostly submerged in water. -

Well it does help that those that inhabit the island, do feed the giant crustacean. That occurs while the trader's apprentice (forgot her name), climbs down the rope to confront it. But that does not solve the issue of what it ate before people lived on it. That solution I feel is fairly simple. It lives in comparison to itself, rather shallow waters. Crabs and crustaceans feed on mollusks, other shellfish, and fish that swim by while it is still. My point as to why a super giant the size of Roshar couldn't do that, is because of the sheer scale. It would be literally the only of its kind as there is no other "continental creature" that it could reproduce with, and if it could reproduce, there wouldn't be enough planet to contain it and even one of its brood. The amount of food it would need to survive would wipe out all life on the planet. -
Luthadel was at the magnetic north pole which is why the ferromagnetic ash blanketed there to protect it from the extra heat/radiation from the planet being closer to the sun.

Most crustaceans that spend extended time in water have gills. Why would the Tai-na have not evolved some if that was the result? -
All of Roshar is a single shell beast
Pathfinder replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well if this is the case, then we need to reason out how that came to be. Would you posit that Adonalsium showed up, created a giant super beast, and it just sat there with no food supply and decided it is just going to go to sleep, not move and has been ever since? True Whales can subsist on a food source far smaller than them, yet it is very prevalent. For something that size, I do not think plankton floating around would be enough lol. -
The three moons of roshar are giant gem stones
Pathfinder replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
Aren't there WoB that the moons are not natural, and that is part of the reason that their position in space and how they move is atypical for what they should do? -
Can't believe I just made this connection

I am of the belief that the guy with the "energy blaster" is not a native Scadrialian so in my opinion at least, they don't have those yet. -

poll Kelsier and Vin. Versus the Thunderclast
Pathfinder replied to Darkness Ascendant's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Considering a radiant with a group of squires bearing hammers was expected to be able to take on a thunderclast when it pops up, and that a radiant on stormlight has the rough equivalent of a mistborn on pewter (there are WoB on that), I would say Kelsier and Vin with some hammers would reduce the thunderclast to dust. -
There are pendulum clocks that are that size, see below: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#safe=off&q=torsion+pendulum+clock

lol no worries, I've done the same myself in the past.

And him with all his bracers on, in a room alone, taking out his own tooth and putting in a new one makes him more vulnerable to attack how?

Why the Alethi are not a medieval society
Pathfinder replied to SnopyDogy's topic in Stormlight Archive
That is not how banking developed. First the concept of banking does not require paper money/printing press. Modern banking as we know of it existed since 1397 a la the Medici Bank, which was 43 years prior to the printing press. Yes paper money existed for a very long time, but it was not a prerequisite for the existence of banks. Banking in fact went back even further, but I reference the Medici Bank as it is the first form of modern banking. Regarding the slave place, banking had existed for 200 years before indentured servitude popped up. Yes in the books they are referred to as slaved, but the classical definition of a slave could not pay off "a debt" and be free. With indentured servitude you could. I just feel like you are drawing a lot of false positives or correlations on something we do not have enough information to confirm. -
I always felt that the gem heart was kind of inspired by how oysters have pearls.

See my issue with that is one, i already said how he could do it without anyone around to "see him be vulnerable" and two, every time he went to his private hut to be old he was guarded by inquisitors that saw him like that. So they did see him "vulnerable"

There are WoB that a more skilled feruchemist can choose to draw strength from only an arm, while the rest is normal and etc. So we have reason to believe a skilled feruchemist can be selective in where and what they store and tap. The Lord Ruler I would imagine would be quite up there and able to decide to have it gums and the bone around the implant close, but not have a brand new tooth grow into the hole. edit: we also have Sazed as an example where the rings shot into him were healed around, but not ejected from his body. He was also able to store and tap from those while they were located there
