Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
Seonid replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Wonderful, PK. Thanks for letting us know. This faction war is getting crazy. Don't have much to say other than an increasing worry about our lack of information. And our increasingly precarious communications situation. It's not panic time yet, but it's getting close, I think.- 937 replies

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
Seonid replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
She and I do share a faction, but she wasn't in my chain of command, so she couldn't have sent me a PM. That's how I know she had to be one of the two other PM roles.- 937 replies

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
Seonid replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well that was an interesting cycle. I can reveal that Shallan was a Runner or the Bondsmith. And also that she was inactive enough that she hadn't checked our PM in 3 days. So unfortunately, I don't know who else she had a PM with. Wish I could give you more.- 937 replies

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
Seonid replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm going to vote for Stink. His unsupported assertions of guilt are ringing red flags in my mind. I'd love to know your reasons. You've claimed to be a runner. If you don't feel comfortable telling your reasons in-thread, contact me in a PM. I'll even be willing to take my vote off as a gesture of good faith until you do. But without those reasons, my vote stays.- 937 replies

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
Seonid replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
My apologies for my recent inactivity. I mostly participate at work, and things have been really busy this week. I have no strong suspicions at the moment, so I'm going to vote for an inactive. The only one who has accumulated a number of votes is Venture. Not a huge fan of lynching a claimed Runner, but I'm less of a fan of persistent inactivity. Our questions have got to have some teeth to them, otherwise the inactivated can't be persuade into activity. EDIT: I'm trying to get the color to work on my mobile, but the tags aren't working for some reason. I hope the vote gets counted.- 937 replies

Senn Conrad is back! Perhaps to be Spiked, perhaps not. But either way, he is back for an excellent game. -

Part of me is tempted to let that stand just to see what folks like Kobold have to say about it. But I'm not cruel like that. Edassa is a setting I'm writing in. I ran a roleplay in it on the Shard once upon a time (it may have even been before you joined - that makes me feel old...) It seemed to be rather popular in its day...*wistful sigh* Anyways, a few people reported interest in reading more stuff set in the world, and I thought it might be a nice time to do that for them. I'll get descriptions up later.

I can participate here, I think. I'm Seonid Favorite Sanderson Novel: Words of Radiance Other fandoms: MLP, Lord of the Rings, Marvel Cinematic Universe Favorite Character: Tough pick - probably Syl OCs - waaay too many to count. We'll stick with the trio of Samhain Seonid, Ariel Kilbaen, and Ash Kitsara. Type of gift I'll provide: an Edassa short story. Type of gift I'd like to receive: an art piece of one of my characters would be cool, but I'm fine with pretty much anything. EDIT: If we have an odd number, I'll do a second Edassa short story.

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
Seonid replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Note: I started this post at work, just to respond to a particularly bad claim by Adavantos. I'll get into my actual suspicions later. I may actually even vote this cycle. Adavantos, the explorer role is quite useful to the Village. Even in early stages, a failed eliminator kill is a good thing. Towards the end of a close game, it can be the deciding factor. At the very least, it gives us a place that we know protection doesn't really need to go.- 937 replies

Last complaint about finals week until April, I hope. Almost done with my stupid paper, but this has been one of the most traumatic experiences of my college career. -
So I got my brother a Sanderson book for Christmas with an answer to a Cosmere question written in it at this signing, and I thought it might be interesting to all you folks here. The question was - "If Cultivation and Honor were romantically involved, why did Cultivation not help Honor against Odium?" The answer - "She did." Typical Brandon, leaving more questions than answers, but still, I hope it's a valuable point of data.

Official Star Wars Episode VII Discussion Thread (TM)

And there is an official spoiler thread up now for all those wish to avoid the ire of Chaos. -
Apparently, I have become the official thread starter of all things episode VII. Not sure how that happened, but I can't say I'm disappointed. So I have had a request to create a thread specifically for Star Wars Spoilers. So if you have a spoiler, it goes here. And nowhere else. The rest of you may spoil away now. I'll be waiting until Tuesday to see it. Spoiler haters, you have been warned! Let the spoiling commence!

Random Stuff V - The Adminpire Strikes Back
Seonid replied to Orlion Blight's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
That's excellent! Mine always went along the lines of: Wormholes: Some sort of hole in space? That connects two parts of the universe together so that you can get there much faster than if you just walked the long way around. Requires exotic matter to hold open...what is exotic matter? Negative energy? What the devil? Hmmm...obviously I need to go and be a physicist. 6 years, much pain, and a senior research project later... Wormholes: General relativistic objects similar to black holes, but ideally lacking singularities and event horizons. The equations can be tweaked to arbitrarily low levels of tidal gravitational forces, allowing for easy travel through. Unfortunately, all known wormhole equations are unstable against small perturbations, leading to the wormhole closing faster than even light could possibly travel through. This can be counteracted with the use of some type exotic matter, specifically matter with a negative energy density. Such matter has not been observed in nature, but cannot be conclusively ruled out, because some regions of space can be shown to have negative energy density - especially as indicated in the Casimir effect....blah...blah...blah Alcubierre Drive: Crap. Not again. Story of my life ^^ -

I'm not saying that you did. I'm saying that that's how you came off. I'm saying that the way you are arguing is giving that impression to the people here. I'm saying that that's the takeaway people are getting from what you said. -

These sorts of attacks depress me. I cannot fathom the worldview that spawns them. Not on any level. And in a future day, they will be held accountable for their evil. And we should do all in our power to find those who perpetrate them before they do and stop them. With that said, #NotAllMuslims are like that. And especially #NotAllPalestinians. There is a lot of hate in Palestine, and a lot of it is directed towards Israel. This is true. But the (silent) majority of Palestinians want to live in peace. And the hate has reasons - none that justify terrorist attacks (at all!) - but the hate did not just spring up out of nowhere. The Western world is in a war with militant/radical Islam. Anyone who disputes this is blind. But the billion and a half Muslims around the world are not the enemy. They are the battleground. And every time we tar all Muslims with the extremist brush - when we treat them as terrorists waiting to happen, the terrorists take one step closer to winning on that battleground. There is a way out of this situation, but it requires everyone - on both sides - to see each other as real people, to understand that they have real grievances, to cease demonization and marginalization and to do the hard work of letting each other become vulnerable and building trust. The walls in our hearts (on both sides) have to come down. Or else there will never be an end to this. -

Kipper, your arguments are coming off as essentially telling other people that they haven't had their experiences. That why Delightful is questioning your right to say that - she feels that you are saying "you didn't actually experience what you felt you experienced." And her response is "I'm the only one who really knows what I did and did not experience. What gives you the right to tell me that my experience didn't happen?" You seem to be conflating Delightful with a host of other (non-present) people who you disagree with. I should be working on my final paper, so I'm not interested in putting down my thoughts on this subject right now. I will just say this - feminism is a broad movement, like civil rights was. It includes both extremists and moderates, conservatives and liberals, pro-choice and pro-life, progressive and conservative, etc. If you find certain extremists distasteful, most of us do (it's in the nature of extremism to be distasteful to most folks). That doesn't mean the whole movement should be judged on the merits of the extremists.- 2014 replies
