That is not a bad idea! *nods * By the way, he was also on Stargate, like Christopher Judge. Jason Momoa as in Atlantis, and Christopher Judge was on SG-1.

Having a Bad Day? Stop here for a Good Rant!

Seconding maxal that you're totally allowed to set boundaries and that your feelings are valid! Though I don't have those particular feelings toward my own mother, I remember when my one grandfather died. I was actually more relieved and not really upset...like at all. He was a grumpy old man who had made life for several members of our family difficult, especially toward the end, and I had to battle with feelings of guilt as a result of not feeling sad about his death. With time, I felt more regret than anything else, that his relationships with others couldn't have been better in life, and less guilty about not feeling sad at his departure. On a slight tangent, this is why love is a verb. You can't make yourself have feelings of love toward others, but you can still act in a loving manner, basically a manner that shows you value life, no matter how horrible the person in possession of that life treats or has treated you. -
If I had a sewing gene, I'd totally be into it. As it is, though, I don't think I can fold a costume out of paper using origami...and have it stay together and hold up against the elements.

Ha! Imagine what that would sound like a. if the pug could talk and b. if he tried to say his name through that cute, smooshed little face!!

Agreed...Cosmere names are going to happen for any future pets in our house. Right now our little fluff ball (cat), Shion, enjoys her video game inspired name (from the game Xenosaga). My old cat was named Fenny after Fenchurch/Fenny in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, though. (Edited for clarity.)

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When you wonder if the lack of new comments in threads in your "My Content" list is due to the fact that everyone on the site has their eyes glued to the pages of Firefight. (I really need to get home so I can start reading!) -
Ha!!!

Yeah, alas, I would go if it was more convenient, but I work for this world's version of the Lord Ruler in that we can't just take off an hour early, we have to take our time off in half days. On top of that, despite the fact I've worked here five years (and in my old job would have had three weeks of vacation plus personal and sick days besides), I only get two weeks of combined vacation/personal/sick days at this place. It's a terrible place to work, which is why I'm on the verge of looking for a new job. But I digress, if the signing was in center city or closer to the Jersey side, I would have been able to pull it off. AND I would have also been one of the 30-somethings group, though not in costume.* *Read this comment at your own peril: I'm sure my husband would appreciate it if I dressed up as Megan, me being blonde, but I totally would not feel comfortable. Maybe fifteen years ago...

Yeah, the old MLP is definitely for small girls. I watched it and the movie(s?) in the 80's and loved it enough to have way too many pony toys and several of the locations (stable, castle, nursery), so Hasbro's show gimmick worked well as advertising. That said, if feminine is not a word that describes you and you are not under the age of ten, watching the old show is not recommended.

I'm considering it, but the logistics of the drive after work from South Jersey don't look good. At this moment, I probably won't be able to go, but if there are future signings in the area, it would be awesome to plan a 17th shard meet-up!

What about Faran Tahir or Christopher Judge for Steelheart?
-
There has got to be someone who fits the Steelheart role. I wish we could take fictional characters from other series and make them act the part, because if so, I'd totally pick Kincaid (uh, if you ever plan to read those books, don't read too much from that wiki entry due to spoilers) from the Dresden Files for appearance and presence alone. XD I will continue to ponder this casting problem.

Series five was really, really good, and I think if my husband were to answer what his favorite arc was, it would be that whole season. I think the combination of Tennant and The Master, though, will always get my vote. I think the same goes for me, the whole thing about finding enough of myself (or my past self) in her yet realizing that this happens all too often.

Agreed! It would probably be better to find a previously undiscovered (in the broad sense) actor for the part of David. Fresh blood is good. It would kind of be fitting considering the role he's be playing, too, as the newest member of the Reckoners. Edit to add: The "agreed" was also in support of Liam Neeson. He's one of my favorite actors and I think he'd be great as Prof.
-
Alright, after reading subsequent comments, I think I know which story arc I like best. I loved the end of Martha's season, all the episodes with The Master starting with Utopia and continuing to the end of the third series. In close second would be the Library episodes.

First, I find it absolutely hilarious that the two posted pictures of Scarlett J. and Jen. L. have them in red, just like the first scene with Megan. Second, Liam Neeson all the way for Prof. I'm such a huge fan! I like a lot of the other suggestions for Cody and do think they're superior to the person I'm about to put forward, but I still have to make a mention that Matthew McConaughey's regular voice is spot-on for Cody in my mind. Like I said, though, I do like some of the the other suggestions better, such as Woody H. I have to just say no to Daniel Radcliffe. Believe me, I'm a Harry Potter fan, but I just don't see him as David. From the names put forward so far, Garfield would fit better, though I'm totally open to other suggestions.

Yeah, definitely worth the short amount of time it would take to re-read. *nods * Right now, I'm trying to finish listening to the audiobook version of Steelheart as a refresher. Very close to finishing... Then maybe I can sneak in Mitosis over lunch break tomorrow since my copy of Firefight should be in the mailbox for when I get home that day.

I do want to see this eventually. My high school put the musical on years ago, and I was in the pit band for it (clarinet). I don't remember it really well, but I do remember really liking it. If it's as good as you say, woo hoo!

A Whovian here, albeit a lazy one lately. We have half of the last series still to watch. My husband doesn't always feel in the mood to watch it (what's wrong with him?!) and yet it's a show we both watch together. As to favorites, I really love Ten. Hearts to you, David Tennant! And I love Donna. I'll have to think about my favorite story arc and get back to you. Hey, maybe I should watch the rest of the most recent series, first, too!

When you're considering driving through Philadelphia proper during rush hour to go to the signing on the other side (I'm across the river in South Jersey). -
Haaaa!!!!! So, we made a convert over new year's. On the eve of 2015, we managed to watch two of the four DVDs containing season 1 episodes with a friend of mine. We proudly sang along with the theme song, many of Pinkie's impromptu tunes, and Art of the Dress, and even worked in a game of MLP: The Game of Life, in which you earn friendship points. She took the rest of season 1 and the DVD set of season 2 with her to watch until we hang out next. Yay! new MLP fans!

Thanks for reviving this thread! I'd never seen it before! I overlap with fans of: ASoIaF Avatar the Last Airbender Doctor Who (though my husband and I are being bad fans and still need to finish the latest season) Chronicles of Prydain Star Trek Marvel (the new movies) Star Wars Kingkiller Chronicle Firefly AND Castle My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Trigun Lizzie Bennett Diaries and Emma Approved (I need to finish the second one) Things I almost overlap on: Football (the soccer variety) - hubby has turned into an Everton fan since deciding to get into Premier League. Dragon Ball Z - I watched it when it originally aired on Cartoon Network in the late 90's and early 2000's. I haven't seen it in ages, though. Dr. Horrible - I saw it once and found it hilarious and would totally watch it again sometime. My additions: Lord of the Rings Harry Potter Agatha Christie and other whodunit authors/series like Rex Stout, Dorothy Sayers and the fabulous Ngaio Marsh. Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas series Project Runway The Beatles C.S. Lewis in general Ray Bradbury Table top games Computer/video games of the puzzle, adventure, RP (turn based) variety, some of which include: Portal, Xenosaga, Civilization, Machinarium, etc. Indie and folk rock music (though I'm pretty picky about bands/artists), with Andrew Bird, The Decemberists, and Muse as the top three. Good coffee and tea Baking (without spikes) Other select anime series/movies Peanuts by Charles M. Schultz

Portal (& Portal 2) must be quoted: Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much? In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired! No, not you, test subject, you're fine. Yes, you! Box your stuff, out the front door, parking lot, car, goodbye! -- Cave Johnson Welcome to the Enrichment Center. [cough] Since making test participation mandatory for all employees, the quality of our test subjects has risen dramatically. Employee retention, however, has not. [cough] As a result, you may have heard we're gonna phase out human testing. There's still a few things left to wrap up, though. [cough] The bean counters told me we literally could not afford to buy seven dollars worth of moon rocks, much less seventy million. Bought 'em anyway. Ground 'em up, mixed em into a gel. And guess what? Ground up moon rocks are pure poison. I am deathly ill. Still, it turns out they're a great portal conductor. So now we're gonna see if jumping in and out of these new portals can you somehow leech the lunar poison out of a man's bloodstream. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. [cough] Let's all stay positive and do some science. That said, I would really appreciate it if you could test as fast as possible. Caroline, please bring me more pain pills. -- Cave Johnson Okay. Look. We both said a lot of things that you're going to regret. But I think we can put our differences behind us. For science. You monster. -- GLaDOS "But there's no sense crying over every mistake You just keep on trying till you run out of cake cookies And the Science gets done and you make a neat gun steel inquisitor For the people who are still alive." Alright, we might need to work on those song lyrics some more... -
This all the way!!! *points up *
