Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Granted. It's a sandwich that somebody else likes, but you don't. I wish I had 10 dollars so that I could buy a chipotle burrito (chicken, both beans, brown rice, cheese, and guac, to be specific, so that I don't share redbird's curse). -
Shallan's memory ability (it's not always beneficial)
Patrick Star replied to kari-no-sugata's topic in Stormlight Archive
Sorry about getting off-topic. I believe that windrunners are the best pure fighters of the KR, which is likely a passive ability from the bond. Kaladin has that mini-conflict where he says something like "and my fighting, that was you?" and Syl says "it was US", or something like that. Seems like a passive ability to me. WoR had something about the Skybreakers being incredible at debates (master debaters?), which could be their passive ability. After all, it always helps to be able to justify your actions when you go around arresting everyone... I agree with you on Renarin. It didn't look like he was consuming stormlight during the visions. As for the bondsmiths, I wouldn't assume anything yet. Brandon said that Dalinar's bond to stormfather was something new and dangerous, which is a bit odd. My personal thought is that another bondsmith (maybe the guy who enslaved the voidbringers?) was bonded to stormfather, and then broke his oaths, which is why Stormfather is so broken and angry right now (he's a much stronger spren, he may have been able to survive), and also why he thought that Dalinar would betray his oaths. Just a theory, I have no evidence. Or, of course, it could just mean that no bondsmith has ever bonded stormfather, but I don't buy that. -
Over in Shinovar, they have curved swords. Curved. Swords.

Shallan's memory ability (it's not always beneficial)

He knows that Kal killed the shardbearer. If Shallan gets distraught enough, she could be convinced that Dalinar lied to her as well, or at least concealed the truth. -

Granted. You also hibernate through the other months. In fact, you're in a coma. I wish that I had super strength so that I could lift things up and put them down. -
Shallan's memory ability (it's not always beneficial)
Patrick Star replied to kari-no-sugata's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, I'm completely terrified about when she finds out that it was Kaladin who killed Helaran. With Amaram, she took the stance "Amaram is a massive douche BECAUSE he 'killed' my brother in honorable combat" when the correct stance was "Amaram is a massive douche who happened to 'kill' my brother in honorable combat." Combine that attitude with the "Kaladin lied to you" bug, throw in the "Dalinar did too" worm, and something REALLY bad happens... -

Granted. They are normal breaths. After you use them by breathing, you will die. I wish for a snuggie. -

Barged? Do you mean barfed? Anyways, you're so perfect that you diet obsessed with finding a more perfect being to find and conquer, and go off into deep space for some reason that I don't understand because I'm not as perfect as you. I wish for a lifetime supply of the world's most comfortable pillow. -

Granted. You take an arrow to the knee and become a town guard. I wish that it would snow. -
I don't think so. Jasnah did visit the highspren in shadesmar, so there should be plenty of them. If anything, it seems like the skybreakers may have been the only order to not kill their spren.

I think it means that Helaran thought he was doing the right thing. It means that he did it willingly, and wasn't forced to or blackmailed into doing it. I think that more relevant information will be present in Book 3, as Nalan will be one of the main focuses of the book.

Shallan's memory ability (it's not always beneficial)
Patrick Star replied to kari-no-sugata's topic in Stormlight Archive
Wow, I was mean. Really, really mean. Got to be better than that. What bothers me about Shallan is who she blames. She... doesn't seem to be digging deep enough, she's stuck on the surface. She doesn't ask "Why?" enough. It's troubling that she blames Pattern for the deaths of her parents, and seems content to fixate on the first cause that comes up. That's the big thing that Kaladin does "better" than Shallan: He analyzes the situation to a much larger extent. In the bridge crews, it would have been SO easy for Kaladin to heap blame on the Parshendi archers (in addition to Sadeas), but realizes that they are not at fault for what's going on. Shallan sees Amaram with Helaran's shardblade, and immediately decides that he's a much worse person for killing her brother, even after thinking that he (Amaram) was likely defending himself. Mraize mentions that Helaran had gone off to join the Skybreakers, and Shallan doesn't even entertain this information. And don't get me started about her mother... I know that Kaladin was very wrong in giving Moash clearance to assassinate Elhokar, but he (Elhokar) DID demand for Kaladin's execution, even after Kal saved him from the Assassin in White, which is something that nobody had EVER managed to do. Add on top that he approved Roshone's relocation to Hearthstone as a suitable punishment for murder, and it's almost understandable. -
Shallan's memory ability (it's not always beneficial)

It's also pretty hard to get over your brother dying in your arms. It's also pretty hard to get over hundreds (thousands?) of helpless bridgemen dying in front of your eyes while you're unable to do anything about it and know that the next arrow fired could leave you in agony for hours, lying on the ground while the survivors just walk past you, and having to do the same to the bridgemen injured after you survive. Yeah, Kaladin definitely has a ton of mental trauma, likely more than Shallan does. -
Shallan's memory ability (it's not always beneficial)

Kal's been through (and has seen) much worse, and remembers it almost as vividly as Shallan, and he's worked on getting past it. Get over it, you wuss (I'm talking about Shallan). -
This comment reminds me of Hoid's comments to Jasnah about how you will find god in the hearts of man. Brandon is nothing if not thematically consistent.

Granted. You are now a furry. I wish for the greatest superpower ever - making and loading save points in real life! Now I'll actually be able to ctrl-z! -

Sorry if I was unclear about my point, but this was what I meant. It could also be that the weakness has to be prominent enough to... be a weakness. For example, an epic could be really scared of black cats with white patches on the front left and right back legs, which would cause them to have neutralized powers when they're around cats. Similarly, if Edmund was attacked by a labrador once, he may be weak to all dogs. That sort of thing.

Could somebody please upvote tbone for me? I was scrolling on my phone and accidentally hit the downvote button My bad! Anyways, I think that it's a little more than fear when it comes to determining weaknesses. For example, why is kool aid a weakness? In the absence of a true fear, it could be linked to a traumatic event. For example, sourcefield could have been attacked at a kid's birthday party, and Steelheart was denied a scholarship once he met academic recruiters who weren't afraid of him. That sort of thing.
