theory-questions Mechanisms governing Surgebinding
Patrick Star replied to Oversleep's topic in Stormlight Archive
Illumination, not Lightweaving. We can't say for certain until we see what Truthseers can do with the Illumination surge. I'd imagine that it has to do with the illusions. Maybe that interaction is what allows Lightweavers to produce audio with their illusions as well as visuals? -
Yeah, the heralds were corrupted after abandoning their honorblades. Nalan's not working to uphold the law, but he IS constrained by it. He's definitely not right in the head.

Nightblood is a sliver of Endowment, the shard of Nalthis. So he can't give Szeth skybreaker powers. There's WoB floating around that explains that Nightblood is essentially a broken shardblade (of Endowment, not of Honor/Cultivation). While shardblades and honorblades are unnaturally light and leak clear mist that flows upwards, Nightblood is unnaturally heavy and leaks black smoke that sinks downwards.

That's the transportation surge interacting with her soul casting. -
theory-questions Mechanisms governing Surgebinding

Dude, you've been out of the loop. Surgebinding, like everything else, is governed by the Wheels of Lull. We just have to keep the Thalmor from destroying them Anyways, here's how I explain infusing an already infused object. Thing of Kaladin lashing Shallan as pouring milk into a glass. Stormlight is the milk, and once the glass is filled, it can be drunk. However, if Shallan is already infused, that's like the glass already being partially filled with orange juice. If Kaladin pours milk into that glass and drinks it, it is NOT going to taste good, and it will be much harder to drink. I have no idea if that's a good analogy or not (the orange juice - milk one, not the Wheels of Lull). -
Kaladin's arc isn't over yet. We still have Vasher and Nightblood, Nalan and Szeth, Moash, and Tara in play. He'll last for at least the next couple of books, I think. Edit: Forgot to mention Amaram, the Ghostbloods, and Helaran.

Aluminum's valuable pretty much everywhere in the cosmere. And in Fallout 4, too. Remember to always look for aluminum cans, people!

When did Shallan break(WOR spoilers)
Patrick Star replied to KnightGradient's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree to a certain extent. Being a lightweaver is all about understanding yourself, and accepting who/what you are. In Shallan's case, she was a relatively innocent kid until the whole attempted murder thingamabob. She had no reason to shut down and try to deceive herself... so she didn't. And because of this, she had at least some truths unlocked from the get-go. I'd imagine that a good amount of lightweavers start out with at least one truth unlocked, as it would take something SUPER traumatic (like your own mother trying to kill you) to cause a mental breakdown large enough to shut off all 4 truths. -
The Girl that stole Gods Light

Wandersail IS a parallel to Szeth's life. Not WAS. It's still going on. Szeth's gone through most of Wandersail, but has not yet burned down the island. And with Nightblood in hand, I'm dreading when he does. -
Yes, he's Darkness/Nalan, the fallen (HUGE emphasis on FALLEN) Herald of "Justice". The other speaker is likely another fallen Herald, possibly Kalak (the guy from the prologue). Shallash had also been in the area. She had scratched the face off of her statue.

I wasn't referring to the Nahel bond. I was just referring to her unlocking subsequent "truths" after getting the bond. Not getting the bond in the first place. -

I don't think her having pattern so early is anything special. It's just because of her order. Lightweavers are weird, so they don't have oaths past the general radiant oath. Only "truths". About themselves. So a six year old could easily unlock all of their truths, since they'd have nothing to hide from themselves. -
Nalan? Technically, he couldn't go against Taravangian's orders, plus he has been watching Szeth

I don't think it's likely, either. I was just throwing out the only male character that we know of who we know would have access to a soulcaster. I don't think that there's anyone else that we've seen who would have one.

Nalan has NOT been serving justice. He is bound by the laws of the land, but follows his own agenda, and will gladly exploit loopholes in order to further his own goals. I don't have my book on me, but I was pretty sure that we saw him using it in Ym's interlude. I may be remembering things incorrectly.

Like midnightyell said, the guy was wearing a mask. Also, Nalan has a lightweaving fabrial on him, so altering his appearance and accent for short stretches is probably trivial for him.

What if it's Nalan? We know he has a ton of fabrials with him.

They're definitely at least able to become corporeal (possibly like sprenblades, only full bodies), and that's if they are incorporeal to begin with. If I remember correctly, Yelig-nar killed Nohadon's wordsmen. Can't do that if they're completely incorporeal.

I don't think it was the Stormfather. Why would he be leading an unmade to Narak? And in a more practical sense, why would he have to? It just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm pretty sure it's 2 different unmade. Here's a death rattle to consider: Re-Shephir, the Midnight Mother, giving birth to abominations with her essence so dark, so terrible, so consuming. So, could the sleeker one be the Re-Shephir, the Midnight Mother? If I understand the death rattle correctly, she's in charge of the Midnight Essences. According to the Coppermind, "The Midnight Essence's skin was smooth, slick, black, and reflective.[1] It had six extremely thin legs that were bent at the sides with clawed paws. The Midnight Essence's body seemed almost fluid, with a long and flexible neck and sharp teeth that appeared like knives." So, I'd expect Re-Shephir to have a somewhat similar appearance to the Midnight Essences. And from the Coppermind's description, "Alien and Sleek" would be pretty much a perfect descriptor for her appearance http://coppermind.net/wiki/Midnight_Essence

2 unmade, to be precise. Eshonai said that stormform would attract the unmade's attention. Well, they've been attracted.

This sucks. I haven't gotten any radiant abilities yet, but I've read The Way of Kings at least 25 times. I feel cheated. This is even worse than not getting wings after drinking Red Bull.

Stakes in the Stormlight Archive (buncha WoR spoilers)
Patrick Star replied to DSC01's topic in Stormlight Archive
Except he kind of isn't? Tanavest may be gone, but people still have the Knights Radiant, the Honorblades, the shells of the Heralds, the Stormfather (basically Tanavest's ghost), the Nightwatcher, Cultivation, fabrials, and shards of the original radiants. So Tanavest still left a large amount of legitimate influence on the world of Roshar. Meanwhile, Szeth's Truthlessness was a lie from the start, and had no tangible manifestation outside of Szeth's actions.
