Great point Argent! If he does do a homosexual main character, he would need to do it as well as he did Jasnah as an Atheist; it would take the same amount of dedication, focus and research. Possibly more, as AFAIK mormons are very much against homosexuality, so it might be difficult for him to write a homosexual character for those reasons. As a straight, relatively conservative protestant christian, I completely get how difficult that might be to write well. And Sanderson isn't the kind of person who could comfortably do a mediocre job on a character. Mostly my comment on stats was a digression. In my defense, it was 1:00 in the morning and I'd been working all day...

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Erunion replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Welcome to the forum? Your wish is granted. You have an army of hyper-intelligent penguin servants. While they are your servants, they are an army first, and you are now at war with the hyper-intelligent Orca army. As your bane, you get uncontrollable, violent shudders for 30 seconds whenever you come across anything fish related. Fish, fish breath, fried fish, fish fertilizer, anything. I wish that I were a Bendalloy misting (having Snapped, with full knowledge/ability to use powers). -
I think it more likely that Ati and Leras were close friends/brothers rather than lovers. It fits the characters and the tragedy more, if that makes any sense? It's just the way I read their relationship. Ati slowly losing his will to Ruin, Leras' urge to preserve leading him to betray his once closest friend. It would be good to see better representation of LGBT in media in general (and Cosmere in particular). However, keep in mind that at best census data LGBT people make up around 3.5% of the population, with around half that group being bisexual. So statistically, only around 2.5% of humans would be in a homosexual relationship, or actively seeking one in the context of this kind of story. Which means that around 1 out of every 50 characters 'should' be gay, if that makes sense. So I guess what I'm saying is: how many major characters are there in a story? How many can be considered main characters? Assuming Sanderson writes 5 main characters per book, then by his 10th book one should have been gay... Statistically. Obviously, every author is an artist, and the story takes preeminence over stats! /end ramble

Either siblings or a romantic couple, or just best friends. But I'm fairly confident that Ati and Leras were a team - best buds for sure, brothers possibly, lovers possibly. So yes, it is a tragedy, however you spin it.

1024 years? Didn't know, that's a cool tidbit. But yeah, it's a Leras prophecy; HOWEVER, I am so down with Sazed being the Hero of the Cosmere. Theory: Sazed becomes the new holder of Adonalsium, absorbing more and more shards?

That's awesome. Well done.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Done. As your bane, you have surpassed all desire. As you desire nothing, you know no languages. You might be popular amongst Buddhist monks though. If you wanted to be.... I wish to be a bronze compounder (with full knowledge and ability to use/etc.) -

Granted. You have an intrinsic and automatic understanding of what time it is. As your bane, every time you see a clock that is even slightly off (even by seconds) you freak out until it's been corrected. I wish for the ability to understand any concept that anyone even tries to explain to me (especially in lectures). -

Hah! Good luck to you then! Have you tried Balut? Is it any good? He was a decent person. Until the horrors of Peña Duro broke him. I wish to have enough breath to have the second Heightening. -

The nightwatcher doesn't think you're worthy of that boon. Instead, you have to fuel your edgedancing with Balut; and only Balut. I wish to have an instantaneous and intrinsic understanding of mechanisms; how they work, how to build them, how to make them better. -

Granted. You now have a new Spren friend! (It's a Spren scholar who is trying to study humanity). You're not bonded to it or anything, but it likes you. I wish to have an improved memory; imprinting, sorting, recall, and long term storage. -
In that case, how do they make the medallions? Doesn't the manufacture of the medallions require Feruchemy? (You need the ability to store investiture?) .... I need to reread Bands of Mourning to go over all of this again.

Scadrial was a big planet, not just one continent. Were the Terris people the ONLY people with Feruchemy, or just the ones near Khlennium? (Because if they were, how do South Scadrian's have Feruchemy?)

Granted. Unfortunately, it's useless this far form Sel. Your Bane is that every time you wash your hands you black out afterwards. I wish for Brandon to release more chapters of Oathbringer, ASAP. -

AFAIK Silver CAN be affected by steelpushing and iron pulling. It has not allomantic effect, but it IS affected by Allomancy. Unlike Aluminum, which cannot be pushed/pulled. Too bad you'll never believe me. Granted. It is lovely. Perfectly fitting and aesthetically pleasing. Your bane is that everyone will know about it, and think it's lovely. And every time they see you, they'll talk about it. If you're not wearing it, they'll ask why not, and if you are, they'll ask to try it on/etc. Once you're gone, they will be very confused by their own actions, and think of you as they would think of any other aluminum foil hat wearer. I wish for a bead of Lerasium. -
Not that this is necessarily contradictory, but Electrum shows your own future, yes? So it shows any future where you are killed/trapped/freaking out because the Atium burner predicted your movements. As such, you decide not to take any of the paths that end with your doom, being a smart Mistborn. So it's poor mans Atium; you can see yourself die or succeed, and have a rough idea how to choose that option, but you can't see anyone else or what they've done.

Your theory is brilliant, and your boon is granted. Your bane is that the first new memory you make each day is immediately forgotten. Starting at the moment your boon is granted -

Oh shoot! I forgot my boon too... Granted. As your bane, every voice you here has a random volume. Whispers could sound like screams or a normal voice. The loudest yelling could sound to you like the barest whisper. You can always understand what you'd normally be able to hear, but it translates to your brain... Oddly. As my boon, I wish for future posters to give proper, Nightwatcheresque banes! -
Isn't it annoying how men are always assumed to be inferior? How they're opinions are of less worth, even with evidence and experience backing them up? How women put men down and they don't fight back or do anything about it because that's just the way things are? That, my friends, is sexism. RJ wrote a world that was (for the most part, not exclusively) sexist AGAINST men. All the annoying ways men are treated by different characters in WOT (especially those super anti-male ladies from Far Madding), are ways that men have historically treated women in our world. It's not perfect, and there are mistakes made, but a huge part of the WOT dynamic that doesn't really leap out to people is that sexism is pervasive, hard to notice, ingrained in society and just massively SUCKS. Add to that how much characters sexist attitudes harm the plot and slow things down. So yes, the women can be annoying. Yes, they treat men terribly (even though 90% of the sexism is not overt, but is rather assumed and subtle). That was, I believe, the intention. The Wheel of Time is why I, as a guy, consider myself a feminist. It showed me just how subtle, pervasive, dangerous and AWFUL sexism was, and continues to be in our society.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

You get it. It's delicious. Your bane is that you can no longer feel the roof of your mouth - it will be numb for the rest of your life. (Remember! The Nightwatchers banes aren't related to destroying the boon! Often it's something completely unrelated, but continually annoying!) -
Once sweet, but now devoid of meaning. A full nights sleep is like a Unicorn.

Granted. You get 100%. As your bane, all pencils from now on feel icy to the touch, even through the thickest gloves. (It's all in your head too, so no physical evidence or damage. Just icy discomfort). I wish for energy and focus whenever I study, or desire to study. -

Granted. (Also, that was a beautiful night watcher curse. Well done). You now see the world through a haze - everything is cloudy. I wish to be a Worldhopper. -
[Secret History Spoilers] Why the 17th Shard wants Hoid
Erunion replied to KnightGradient's topic in Mistborn
While the original 16 were all from Yolen, Adonalsium might not have been! He/She/It could have been from outside the Cosmere... (Maybe he was an Evil Librarian and Alcatraz chased him down and Broke him! /joketheory) -
Rashek's Allomancy was incredibly powerful. Far more so then even Elend, a full Lerasium Mistborn. His latent Allomancy appeared more powerful than a Mistborn flaring duralumin, orders of magnitude stronger than Elend. It is likely that he gave himself a more powerful form of Allomancy at the well, but it seems most likely that this would simply be a scaled up version of a Lerasium Mistborn. But from how he's portrayed, he's orders of magnitude more powerful. Why is this? Is he flaring Duralumin the whole time? This is unlikely, as it would burn out his metals too quickly. So my theory? Rashek was compounding Investiture. I suspect that he was storing investiture in Nicrosil, burning it then storing vast amounts of Investiture from compounding. He would then be able to keep his investiture (like his age and his health) at a steady burn all the time he was out in public. Thoughts? (And if this was posted before, I'm sorry!)
