  1. Not canon even by Oregon standards, but Darkrose's weakness also runs on this concept. I don't have anything to add other than that I agree. I think the problems were beginning to surface even in Firefight, though. David's weakness being the ocean was a little weak considering he'd first seen it only a week or so previously, and his 'trauma' connected to the ocean was no worse than any of a thousand other situations he's been in.
  2. I think it'd be symbolic, like Funtimes weakness. Your fear wouldn't be the same as an Epic as it is now; as an Epic you likely wouldn't care about your sister. But Calamity's corruption would still latch onto something that reminds you of the fear you used to have, and something you mentally tie to your sister would become your weakness.
  3. Technically incinerating the skin by nuclear fusion still counts as breaking it. The words "Rules Lawyer" would spin above Kokichi's unconscious head instead of the usual little birds.
  4. Unfortunately this kills the Kokichi. Deathwish's power kicks in if the immediate consequences of an attack are to break his skin. That's why his trick of taping razors to his chest works; if someone shoves him the razors will be pushed into his skin even if all they intended to do was shove him. I'm sure someone of Kokichi's capabilities would figure out a less incinerate-y way of causing Deathwish no end of suffering, however.
  5. Now I'm picturing Deathwish trying to figure out if Kokichi is male or female, his fear of accidentally hitting on a guy grappling with his pervy desire to hit on every nearby female. Homophobia and misogyny are aggressively pitted against each other in the REAL infinite feedback loop.
  6. The relief that comes with gifting isn't absolute; Arsenal would still go around using his powers to a great enough extent that the corruption would be slowly but surely claiming him no matter how many people he gifted to. On top of that, although the corruption pushes him to an extreme he was still a stiff person with a controlling personality even before Calamity, so we don't get to see a happy-go-lucky, chill version of him in any timeline. Blunt force doesn't cause his damage reflection to kick in; I made certain that in his very first post a woman slapped him for the double reasons of karma and making sure that limitation was clear. That said, if somebody shot him... well, I'm getting a bit of a headache thinking about it. It'd either be a feedback loop that self-perpetuates until the gifted power runs out, or they would both just heal because the damage reflection is not itself reflected.
  7. Both Arsenal and Scribbler are gifters, but the entire legion of Scribbler-giftees are perpetually tied up generating the stacks of paper and pens required for the Arsenal-giftees to fill out their forms.
  8. Gifter!Arsenal would throw the mother of all hissy fits the first time someone uses his powers to install a popcorn machine in the HQ, though.
  9. Revolution: No take backs. Wow, did you know Calamity is a guy from another dimension? Backtrack: Wha--really? How do you know that? Revolution: I just do. I can tell when I look up. Backtrack: ... Revolution: ...you have looked at Calamity with your powers before, right? Backtrack: ...maybe... Revolution: Were you sca- Backtrack: I WASN'T SCARED I JUST DIDN'T THINK ABOUT IT.
  10. That didn't stop us when it came to teleporters and prime invincibilities. I think there were legitimately enough High Epics to run an multi-story office building all on their own. Epoch's effects are scary enough already. Anything that makes the effects more potent or more widespread would definitely be a huge factor.
  11. I'm glad we could help. Here's an interesting question that flitted through my head while working earlier. Which Epic would have changed things the most if they'd been a gifter? Vanillas who get gifted don't seem to get the full strength and instinctive skill as the original Epic, but they can still be a force to be reckoned with. So which Epic would have both been willing to pass their powers out to the most people, and also have the greatest impact in doing so? My money is on the following: Doctor Funtimes. It seems to me like she absolutely would have passed her powers out to her vanillas, if only to give them an easy way out of dangerous situations if it came right down to it. It's debatable how much this would have affected the sequence of events though, given most of them would probably still have clung close to Funtimes and avoided getting involved in the other Epics' squabbles. Her power is also complicated enough that they would have had a really hard time using it even for relatively simple applications. Voidgaze, Flamethrower, or one of the other stronger Thoughttown Epics. Thoughttown in general had the least offensive ability when compared to the amount of personnel they had access to. Thoughttown with more gifters would have had a pretty significant effect on the outcome of the Portland turf war. Any of the major Dalles Epics. Although Vapor Snake was a thing, I'm still kind of puzzled looking back that we didn't give The Dalles at least one major gifter. They could have pressured any of their Epics into giving out powers, and a hit squad of slightly weaker Deathwishes or Edgerunners would have been a huge boon. All in all I guess it's puzzling that there weren't more gifters in the RP in general, given the significance they have in the books.
  12. R.I.P., our one good depiction of Cretaceous Period South America. And I'll take Stephen Lang wherever I can get him. He was the best part of both Terra Nova and Avatar.
  13. Winter: "This scene is terrifying and would be an effective and chilling scene in an anime." Us: "Yeah, but consider: what if it was more like VeggieTales?"
  14. When do we get the cubicle office job AU? I mean, it'd be over as soon as it began with everyone murdering each other as part of a Game of Thrones - esque power struggle, but it'd be entertaining.
  15. Lightwards was so incredibly underpowered compared to everybody else. When I joined I didn't fully understand the kind of power level the RP was set to, so I nerfed his power set in every way I could think of. Limited zombies, no direct offensive or defensive powers, and even a limit to how many times he could resurrect. And yet, counter-intuitively, looking back I think his lack of relative power made him a better villain than he would have been otherwise. It forced him to spend most of his time fishing for allies and stewing in his own insecurities, which made him lash out in more heinous ways, and in addition made the moments where he actually got to be the scariest Epic onscreen pop out more. ...not that those moments tend to last long when Darktimes is on her way. The total arc of that scene, though, from Lightwards punching Nathan, Funtimes showing her darker nature, and then to Sam and Revolution getting to know Nathan in the jungle, is one of my favorites from the RP.
  16. "Now, if you want a good recipe for cremling stew, you're going to want to look out for The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. There are other cookbooks for Horneater cuisine but this is the only one that gives the cultural context that really lends the recipes some authenticity."
  17. Another student threatened to expose her tumblr. To which she replied, "Do it, coward. I know exactly what Google searches must have led you to my blog, and if you pull the trigger, so will they."
  18. Ah, but that's the gift and the curse of Intervention's power. He can make anybody drunk without the need of physical alcohol, but he also can't create alcohol. He can only alter the brains of people to mimic its effects. Side note, I love that Intervention sounds like one of those joke Epics we talk about who doesn't actually exist in the RP, but he was an actual story Epic who served underneath Altermind, who was in general the least crazy faction leader.
  19. Emma Runes is cheering her on in the background. Milton Towren is pretending to be texting campus security like a model student, but secretly he's just taking pictures and wishing he was the one who got to ride a dinosaur.
  20. "THAT ANIMAL IS FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY, DELANCEY!!" Which is to say, I have scried into this alternate universe, and seen that this is exactly what winds up happening.
