  1. When you're not afraid, because the mists belong to you.
  2. Not sure about Metallic Arts, but such a person could probably swear the Rosharan Ideal "I will stand when others fall."
  3. I would say compounding them increases our laughs tenfold.
  4. On the other end of the spectrum, Aluminum Compounders are among the most pathetic creatures, as they are completely useless and have the identity understanding to fully realize it.
  5. Wow. You are second only to Peter Ahlstrom and BranSan himself. Sigh. One day, Swimmingly will leave us mortals behind, ascending into Utah Heaven and becoming BranSan's second assistant. Then, he will continue to stalk the forum physical realm, trolling us all.
  6. John Barrowman in the same room as Nathan Fillion? What an odd thought.
  7. With the added benefit that the Blade can be neither Pushed nor Pulled.
  8. This is the second post I've created today, but it's about something I've been contemplating for a bit. What I have been wondering is as follows: does theorizing about a book alter your perceptions of the novel, particularly if the theories turn out to be true? Let me give an example. Spoilers for Words of Radiance, I'm afraid. It was an odd feeling, perhaps because it was the first time it had ever happened to me. A bit of speculation turned out to be correct. And while there were still plenty of surprises left in the book, it felt odd knowing a bit about the Stormlight Archive before Brandon Sanderson specifically decided to reveal it. It felt somewhat like a book spoiler, though not quite as spoiler-y. I'd be interested in hearing other people's opinions. If a theory turns out to be true, does it affect your perception and enjoyment of a novel?
  9. His Shardpen, of course.
  10. My brother and I have often discussed what we call "The Ati and Leras Show", a sitcom about Ruin and Preservation living together on Scadrial. It features comedic hijinx and joyous exchanges like the one below (when they accidentally create Feruchemy): "You got your Ruin on my Preservation!" "You got your Preservation on my Ruin!"
  11. To paraphrase the Second Ideal of the Skybreakers: "I will hold the textbook instructions above all else."
  12. So many Surgebinding criminals, so little time?
  13. Sel is mentioned, but from what I see, it is only mentioned in comparison twice: This quote is comparing the Metallic Arts as a whole to Sel's Investitures, but does not comment on their potential interactions. This quote specifically compares Allomancy to Sel's Investiture. Here Hemalurgy is stated to have potential applications across the Cosmere at large, but the text does not seem to highlight Sel itself as an example of where Hemalurgy would be practical.
  14. When does it specifically refer to Sel as a good place for Hemalurgy? I remember the Author stating that it could be useful for the Cosmere at large, but I can't remember a specific reference to Selish Hemalurgy.
  15. From "Elantrian" to "Wyrn the King". If that's not a natural progression, I don't know what is.

  16. I didn't notice all those 6's before. I thought they were normal... Do me a favor? Remind me never to play dice with you.
  17. BEST. BOSS. EVER.
  18. So, this is from the 2014 Omaha book signing: From the specific wording of the answer, I have deduced that this question is somehow important in a way we don't currently understand. This is the sort of brilliant intellectual work I am capable of. So what I'm wondering is, why is this question such a big RAFO? We know Hoid isn't one of the Heralds, so that answer is out. Why does it matter whether Hoid's taken a stroll down Damnation Avenue at some point? Personally, I'm not good with this sort of guesswork. I've been toying with the idea of Braize being the current state of Yolen, but I have little evidence to support this. So, discuss, maybe?
  19. I've always assumed Hoid, the Dragon, and the Shardholders are the only Yolenites/Yolenese still alive. I have absolutely nothing to back this up, however.
  20. Can you Forge a spike to have killed someone in the past, for humane Hemalurgy?
  21. Aww, I wanted to be the bad guy. Arsteel Swimmingly always gets to be the bad guy... (Besides I've used that one already. )
  22. Next time we do things MY way. "Nice to meet you, ruffblade027. We're here to kill you."
  23. Ooh, substance abuse. Reminds me of this old thread which posits that Shallan is predisposed towards alcoholism. Possible evidence?
  24. Welcome to the 17th Shard! I would definitely recommend reading The Way of Kings. It is, without hyperbole, one of the greatest books I have ever read. And your profile picture will only become more awesome once you know who it depicts and under what circumstances.
  25. Booyah! Another Teen Titans fan. Now I wonder how the Teen Titans would fare going up against a supervillain like Steelheart...
