Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
twelfthrootoftwo replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Did you not get around to making the PM? It might have helped for a cycle or two. Ada, do you mind if I use Agrigar in future RP? (Also, why are you in the dead doc!?) Good game all, and thanks to the GMs. I think the Diagrammists just about exhausted our chromium-minds in the second half of the game.- 937 replies

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
twelfthrootoftwo replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Nope! I'm actually an amazing hacker and I've been logging everyone's keystrokes for the whole game. I have access to the master doc (I'm not going to make it easy for the rest of you ), as well as more than one bank account. Yes, I'm an assassin, and no, I'm not Elbereth's contact. You can see that in our scans, as Elbereth's and mine can't be from the same Assassin and still be true. My best guess to the truth is in my previous post (Elbereth trying to cover for Clanky), because I agree that six assassins seems improbable. Then again, suspicions based on role distributions aren't exactly reliable, especially with two trolls for GMs.- 937 replies

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
twelfthrootoftwo replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Kynedath, you missed out on the interesting result Clanky targeted Adavantos as well. He was online at the end of last cycle - presumably to put in the order - but didn't post. I don't want to give out all my results, because there's some sensitive info in there, but here's what's safe: Cycle 2: Hael targeted PK (Hael was scanned as an Assassin, which makes sense) Cycle 3: Adavantos targeted Hellscythe (presumably the poisoning that happened with the lynch) Cycle 4: Clanky targeted Adavantos Cycles 6/7: I didn't put orders in Cycle 8: Clanky targeted Adavantos Cycle 4 has Clanky protecting Adavantos again, possibly because of STINK's accusation against Adavantos. You've been intentionally vague about your/your contact's results, which is rather interesting. It reads more as a fudge than actual scans to me. If I'm right about Clanky, I suspect you're trying to protect him. This would also indicate that Polking is a Diagrammist, as you could be specific about his actions in (what I'm guessing is intended to be) cycle 1. The other thing I've been thinking about is the lack of Diagrammist kills in the previous cycles. There are a few options. Genuine inactivity: Aside from Adavantos, there just hasn't been any Diagrammists on to make the kills. It's too late to go through and track the people who weren't online at all, but those who didn't post during cycles 6/7 were: Polking, Aonar, Twei, Creccio, Jain, DeathClutch. This may well be the case, but I'm guessing it's not, for two reasons. Firstly, assuming Adavantos was the one to poison Jain, then we know two other Diagrammists were also active last cycle (for the kill and protection); jumping to two actives from zero seems strange. Secondly, Adavantos claims he revealed himself as a Diagrammist out of the goodness of his heart. If we take that claim at face value (which I was reluctant to do, but I really can't find any way it could act in the Diagrammists' favour), then it seems unlikely he would do so when he's at risk of losing the rest of his team to inactivity. Feigned inactivity: The other Diagrammists are active, but haven't put in kill orders - either because they have more productive things to do (Revealed Scholar scans, protective roles) or because it suits them to not be killing people. If the latter, they probably want to draw attention to inactive players. They're all dead: This runs into the problem of Adavantos revealing while knowing he was at a disadvantage. Maybe he'd given up and just wanted to skip to the trolling? (Come to think of it, that's a decent explanation for the genuine-inactive case as well.) Of course, chances are it's a combination of all three. My guess is that there's a number of inactive Diagrammists and the remaining active members decided to lay low for a while. I'm interested in the people who tried to lynch inactives last cycle, because that would play into the 'focus-on-inactives' aspect. So Elbereth, Kynedath (though with their post this cycle I think they're Village), PK, Seonid (maybe; I read his posts last cycle as Tony being second choice behind Adavantos). Edit: Just thought of the fourth permutation: feigning all dead, to make us turn on each other before going after Adavantos.- 937 replies

Apologies for not being more active; these holidays have left me with a lack of time, energy and internet access. With any luck, next cycle I'll have more than a cursory read to go off. For now, though, I don't understand why Adavantos is still alive.- 937 replies

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
twelfthrootoftwo replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Apologies for not being around much - I haven't had as much time as I expected this holiday period. I'm keeping up with the thread whenever possible, but it's hard to find time to post. I agree. With the discussion around lynches, they're the best choice for our public Scholar as we gain the most information from the results. I thought about casting a vote to back this up for next cycle, but given that it's so late in the cycle and that there are several other useful scans (IMO: Kipper, Maill, Hellscythe, Alv) it would be better to leave inactive kills to the judgement of our (now revealed) cooks. I'd be interested to hear about your suspicions, even if the subjects are dead.- 937 replies

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
twelfthrootoftwo replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Can you explain your reasoning for the bit in bold? I doubt a Cook kill would be used as a WGG, for the simple reason that there's no inherent alignment to a Cook kill. We have to infer the existence of a Diagrammist cook, and then correctly identify which poisoning attempt belongs to them, before an assumption that the target is innocent can come out. And that assumption is what the WGG rests on. There seems to be so much haziness with faction/suspicion/inactive poisonings by village cooks to get any decent level of trust from the WGG, in which case they've wasted a kill action. IMO, if the attempt on Maill was a WGG, it was probably to kick off a larger gambit. The relative value of trust and a kill is subjective, though, so the Diagrammists may well disagree with me. I want to put a vote down, but the lack of information from lynches is making it difficult for me to form any decent suspicions. So I'll poke... Feligon. Also, if any Scholars are in PMs but haven't claimed their role, I ask that you do so. It's a risk to give out your role when it's so important, but we're being strangled without information.- 937 replies

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
twelfthrootoftwo replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The Elsecaller could have had Alv's idea in mind: change PK's scan to something far-fetched to check if he could actually scan the body. That said, it's a stretch, and I agree that it would probably be more helpful for village Elsecallers not to be using Transformation. We could actually check whether Sart's scan was messed with. If Kipper and Adavantos vote on different people (preferably people we don't want to lynch, with no other votes), then if they've been bonded we should see their votes shift to one or the other in the tally next cycle. (I realise it's rather late in the cycle; Kipper and Adavantos are both active players so hopefully they see this!) We could also use the idea in later cycles if we want to check if the Bondsmith is still alive. This would be fairly risky. If there was a Diagrammist plot to go after Venture,it was either a concerted effort to lynch Venture, in which case I'd be looking at the people pushing the WGG idea (Kipper, PK), or it was an attempt to shift the lynch from Diagrammist Hellscythe (Kynedath, Maill - Maill is an interesting case as he played a large part in starting the lynch on Hellscythe).- 937 replies

Usually because I'm trying to wrap my head around multiple pages of posts, and often end up leaving before I get through them all to post something of my own Anyway. With PK revealing as a scholar, I think we're better off leaving him alive. Now he has to give us scan results every cycle, which other scholars can check in private. Either he's caught in a lie or he can share information from his (or a hypothetical Diagrammist teammate's) scan.- 937 replies

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
twelfthrootoftwo replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
We seem to have three candidates for the lynch at this stage: Venture Mistborn Claimed Runner in their only post last cycle. Was promptly both attacked and protected. Suspicion as to whether or not this is a WGG. Whether or not this was a WGG, it's likely Venture is in fact a Runner. If not a WGG, it was a play to get protection (important role) or foster communication (Runner). Venture isn't the type to fakeclaim to get protection - they aren't often attacked early in the game, so the Runner version is more probably. And a WGG at this stage of the game is a long-term play; since Runners have to reveal themselves to use their PMs, it's not possible for the claim to stand up for long if it was false. At this stage, I can't gauge whether this was a WGG or not. I think we'll either have to watch what Venture does in their PMs or LAFOE. Paranoid King Provided the finishing vote on Sart, which a lot of people took issue with. Convinced Venture was a WGG. Aside from that, and his extensive defences, hasn't said a whole lot. His major argument for the vote on Sart is that "we need bodies". I disagree strongly. If there's actual suspicion to go with the vote, then sure. If there was enough discussion around them to generate useful information when we know their alignment, then sure. But neither of those were the case: the vote was purely a tiebreaker, and Sart made exactly one post that cycle. I'm suspicious. And the adamance on Venture being a WGG doesn't help either. Hellscythe Was vocal last cycle; STINK claims he dodged a Cook poisoning. Convinced Venture wasn't a WGG. If I understand correctly, most of the votes on Hellscythe come from the tone of his reactions to the Cook/Elsecaller suspicion and his arguments about Venture. IMO, while I would be suspicious of that tone coming from most players, Hellscythe is very much a member of the Assuredness Movement of rhetorical theory. It's nothing unusual from him. I'm wary, but not to the extent that most players seem to be. My vote for now will be on Paranoid King. edit: colour- 937 replies

STINK. I don't agree with his assertion that public information is necessarily good, but I'm not suspicious of him. I'm also satisfied with Maill's reasons for posting the 'faction lists', for now. The whole thing with Creccio: As unhelpful as protestations of innocence are, it's what he was doing when lynched in LG15b as well, if I recall correctly. Beyond that, I don't really know, except: Definitely. I can't think of anything that you would need a code for at this stage of the game, unless you're trying to roleclaim already... I...don't think this is a good idea. I agree that normally, if you know the Eliminators have information, then you should share that information with the village. But this is also a faction game, and knowing who's on your team encourages playing the faction game instead of the elimination game. That's an attitude we can't afford.- 937 replies

Having gone through the thread, the thing that stuck out to me the most was Maill's list. A 'typical' first day lynch discussion was evolving around STINK and Hellscythe, until he posted that list. Phishing was probably part of his motivation (Maill is more known for his PM work, but PMs are restricted this game), but instinct says it may have been a distraction. STINK: You'd decided to reveal your role to the thread. Why, exactly? edit: green- 937 replies

Mid-Range Game 10: Divided Loyalties
twelfthrootoftwo replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Torren's hit rate back in LG13 can't have been up to Skybreaker standards, because his spren has shipped off to find someone better at finding Eliminators criminals. Feeling rather lonely, he's joined a secret club in the hopes of being granted a cool new set of powers. (No way they'll be as awesome as flying through the air and turning people into dust, but hey, that's life.)- 937 replies

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...

To rehash a familiar story, this is one of the games I've been looking forward to playing (the Forger/Hemalurgist/HI interaction is so cool, and also SPACE), but it's come at a rather inconvenient time I'd like to join the spec doc.- 1686 replies

It's often helpful to see multiple approaches, so you can choose a method that works for you. This is how I like to break down physics problems: Pictures are worth a thousand words, and maybe 20 equations. Let's use your window question: So, for these more complex problems: 1) Draw a diagram. 2) Put the information from the question into mathematical form. (In this problem, for example, you need to use the time and distance they give you, but also identify that there's a time and distance that happen above the window too.) 3) Add anything you figure out to your diagram 4) Make a reference bank of equations you think might be related to the problem. (Here, for example, any equations of motion that involve acceleration.) 5) Look for equations with exactly one unknown. You can figure out that variable's value; now it's known. 6) Create a chain of equations that get you from what you're given to what you need to find. 7) Solve the equations. (It's possible to use multiple equations with multiple unknowns, but it's more complicated and less intuitive.)

Long Game 13: Traitors on the Plains
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Aonar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Looks like Maill hasn't been on for a few days and by now I'm not likely to get a response. I'm still wary of feigned inactivity, but the logic for Clanky and Phatt's suspicions of Peng and BB respectively make sense; BB caught my eye before over Bort's death so that's where I'll put my vote.- 607 replies

I can vouch for Phatt, for what that's worth. We've discussed a fair amount via PM, enough that I would be surprised if he turned out to be a Diagramist. In particular, he was strongly suspicious of Orlok.- 607 replies

Maill. Not sure I agree on the inactives theory - I think it's at least as likely the eliminators are feigning inactivity than that half the team is genuinely inactive. I'll sit out of the vote this cycle.- 607 replies

Long Game 13: Traitors on the Plains
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Aonar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
You're missing a few: Adamir Jain Dowanx Eowyn ...which is not really surprising since the last time any of them posted was Adamir way back on Day Four. Given the number of inactive players, how do we feel about getting some of our spare kill abilities to start cleaning them up? Speaking of inactives, I have a pet theory. Ren paid a great deal of attention to Idolevy - more than can be justified, I think, for aone out of multiple inactive players. I suspect he was trying to lynch an inactive teammate, to gain trust. This is also the best explanation I can come up with for Orlok's post where he got Ren and Hero confused - to keep attention on Idolevy. So Maill, what was the point of voting for a player who hadn't even been online since night 1, at the same time as commenting going after inactives isn't that helpful?- 607 replies

Long Game 13: Traitors on the Plains
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Aonar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, since this is evidently going to be an issue: one of my surges is Abrasion. I have several charges left, and can protect myself tonight. Ren's squire used their charge (Adhesion) to kill Macen, so that will be fine at least for this night cycle. By my reading, the events of the writeup (it was epic, Hero!) are: Diagram use Adhesion and kill on Macen, Tent Animator used Tension on Macen; Tension cancelled Adhesion and the kill went through. When Aonar gets back, it would be good to know if this was chosen at random or if there's a systematic choice for which action is cancelled.- 607 replies
