  1. Thank you for the inside knowledge. Just to double check, there is supposed to be a difference between the I and E symbols every time, right? Of course, of course. Entirely intentional. EDIT: Oh no... The dot is in the 'i' location on the broadsheet, not the 'e' location. Oh how the world shall weep at missing such a fortuitous coincidence!
  2. Well, the Cantons were religious organizations, and the Caton is modelled after them, so I don't see why the Caton wouldn't adopt the same hierarchies of faith (or hierarchies of awesome, in this case).
  3. This is just me diving into the conversation in the middle (so...much...math!), but perhaps the reason Wax had such "force" when he increased his weight was simply because he wasn't shot away from the house like a rocket within the first 1/100th of a second of the push. The extra "force" his pushed gained in this case wouldn't be the momentary force of the push, then, but instead its cumulative force over a span of time when he would normally be half-a-city away. Since we know that that strength of a push is inversely exponential as regards to distance, being able to stay in the same place while pushing instead of being shoved away (where the push grows weaker) has to have a significant impact. EDIT: Okay, after a quick re-read of the thread, I see that this is not exactly a unique idea. Sorry for idea-theft/restating the obvious.
  4. Taking a gander at the Google+ Hangout with Brandon back on the 17th, this tidbit is in the comments: There you have it! The Caton shall rise and take over the Cosmere starting in 2034. Only 22 years to go until then! In fact, the Rise of the Caton (tentative title) will probably be Sanderson's Cosmere-spanning series, showing us all of our favorite worlds and characters being defeated and spiked by the Caton. Victory is in (very distant) sight!
  5. Thanks for the clarification. Would you like to tell us what diacriticals differentiate O/U, since we already know the I/E differentiation? Any others we should know about?
  6. It's always been a favorite of mine. Beware that I just grabbed the image link off the first website that had it, so it might not last forever. I had forgotten until about half-way through writing this post that I actually have a Photobucket account, so I tend to just grab random links off the internet.
  7. ^I agree, the Greek comparison is strong. Although, half a year later and a bit farther away from the Iliad, I get the impression that Alethikar is a bit more like a feudal European state, at least after the unification. Before unification, I would think of them as more like "the Germanies" before Bismarck (Gavilar) came along. Also: *Muwhahahahaha!* P.S. I know that this thread was bumped up to the top because of a spammer, not you, Comatose, I just wanted to post this picture .
  8. Looking more closely at the font, it looks like we're missing some information. Note that the tin symbol for 'e' and 'i' are slightly different: the dot is in a different location. I suppose that the dots are diacritical marks, then. Any other diacritical information we should know about the Steel Alphabet (or Alethi, for that matter), Peter?
  9. Okay, just checking. Side note: I'm not sure what state your notification-settings are in, but I did respond to your comment on my wall.
  10. Is the Tor Forge transcript up on Theoryland? I just tried to find a quote from it and could only find the stub from before I transcribed the whole thing.
  11. One problem with any long-term levitation is that I presume that more stormlight is required to enable a greater energy transfer on the part of conjoiners. So we might not get very far with a massive bridge.
  12. Nice. Also, fun fact: the Elendel Daily broadsheet has tin symbols flanking its name in the header, 'e' for Elendel.
  13. To expand on that, apparently soulcasting/Alethi engineering is such that they would need ropes to support any soulcast stone bridge, which ropes could be easily cut and destroyed. Searching for source now, I'll try to get back to you. EDIT: Found it!
  14. Yeah, conjoiners have essentially infinite (and infinitely cool) applications. You can even get over the energy-loss by providing some kind of force-multiplier on one end or the other (levers, anyone?).
  15. Hi, I just responded to your comment on my wall (kind of awkward, but oh well). Thanks again for the upgrade!

  16. Ah, I just saw that you gave Turos a "Transcriber" award (two of them, actually).

I give you full leave to smite me with your mighty smiting powers, but I feel that I must stand by my request that Turos' efforts be given equal recognition to my own. Besides providing invaluable troubleshooting, I wouldn't have kept working without his encouragement.

  17. Well I'll be chromium-leeched. That's downright heroic. How long did the whole process take/why did you decide to embark upon it? P.S. Also, I didn't order the physical book (yes, I am cheap), so I don't know.
  18. Why, thank you! If you're in a particularly Alethi-transliteration rewarding mood, I consider (the now absent) Turos to be a partner in the project. He put in a lot of hours catching errors and finding new words to focus on.

Nice work on using the proper characters to spell out "Hoid," by the way ;).

  19. Update: Looking at the comparison, it looks like valkynphyre was right and we have almost a 1-1 correspondence between the alphabets. New Brandon signing question (or Peter, if he's feeling generous): "Were the Scadralian and Alethi alphabets designed by the same (in world) person?" "Scadralian" adds 'w' and commas/periods, so hurrah there. Currently representing 'w' with just a 'u' in the Roman-Alethi converter, so easy as cake to switch those out. As noted, the page lacks 'x', 'z', 'q', and 'j'. It also appears that Scadralian lacks a unique character for 'th', going with just a 't'+'h'. Generally an easy conversion if I have reason to do it, though the lack of a 'j' bothers me. On a side note, how did you manage to get a high enough resolution to see all of the symbols clearly, valkynphyre? I zoomed in on my PDF and could barely make out the symbols even when I knew which ones to look for where.
  20. Huh... We might actually be in business. So we'll need a side-by-side comparison of both, someone to develop a font following similar rules for each symbol, a means to toggle between the two "modes"... This might take awhile.
  21. Turos explains it pretty well here. Also, I just updated the code a bit, so you might want to redownload. I forget what changes I made from 1.9.4.1, actually. Oops. EDIT: And the font itself is linked to in the OP.
  22. Excellent work! *Must...fight...urge...to write a ludicrously long transcription program for whenever someone comes up with a font*
  23. By "replacing" we mean that now we get natural bendalloy/cadmium mistings instead of Seers/<Malatiumers>, where it was the opposite case before. I can't for the life of me find the quote, but I could have sworn that Brandon said this outright.
  24. Is it just me, or is the OP currently an abomination of horror and non-meaning?
