  1. @Alendi's Piercings Here we go: @Claincy Hm. A fair enough supposition, though we have so very many quotes on Hemalurgy stealing "souls" (which itself has a number of definitions, it seems). If we want to retain Hemalurgy as focusing on the Spiritual, we could (as I've posited in the past, though I can't find the instance at the moment) ask whether a piece of soul might be able to "drag along" some part of the Cognitive aspect with it.
  2. I like this line of reasoning on the limitations of fabrials. Though, for soulcasters, it is claimed that "universal" fabrial soulcasters exist. Some doubt the verity of that claim.
  3. As Weiry said, they could have used a Transportation fabrial. We know that there are fabrials to reproduce every surgebinding ability, so it's not a stretch. The could be retrieved by fabrial or by members of "Transporter" Orders once their high-priority combat deployments were done with. 4. An Allomancer would keep his powers, so I imagine the same applies to all power-sets. http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=692#25
  5. The Theoryland database is also quite useful for stuff older than a few weeks/months. http://www.theoryland.com/wheel-of-time-interview-search.php
  6. You don't necessarily need a user for a Rosharan fabrial. Heaters or Alerters almost certainly work fine by themselves, and I imagine most others do as well. That aside, that won't work for FTL unless Brandon just doesn't care at all about physics. At all. You can't exceed c with any amount of energy, period. Also, Scadrial almost certainly has a metallic core: note the volcanoes and tectonic activity, which indicate heating from radioactive elements in the interior. In fact, I'm not sure that it's even possible to have a rocky planet without a metallic core.
  7. @Argent Yes, a component. But it isn't 1:1 in fabrial construction either, I would bet. I doubt that there are "move things in tandem" spren that are used in Conjoiner fabrials. Some wiggle room inevitably exists, and we needn't necessarily sacrifice Allomancers to get Allomantic effects. Recall that the various Allomantic powers are all just manifestations of excess Preservation: so adding a bit of (hemalurgically acquired) Preservation in the proper way ought to let us get Allomantic effects. @Sats Oooh, implants...
  8. Unless you follow the reasoning in Chaos' OP to allow for the metal and how you Invest it with mist to be a large determining factor.
  9. Oh, interesting. Where'd you find that out, Claincy? EDIT: On the connection between Breath and Hemalurgy: Source: Sats also touched on the possibility of "harmless" spiking back in another thread. @General Theory I like the theory, and I think Kads might be onto something about Hemalurgy providing the "spren" component of the "mist fabrial". I don't think, as some do, that you'd necessarily need to use a Smoker's spike to power a "smoke fabiral", though. That could be taken care of by metal composition and mist-investment, possibly. Also, recall that you can likely spike out attributes from animals (since we know you can spike them in), so Hemalurgy as providing the "spren" component needn't be human-sacrificing.
  10. Why do you think the Admin's spikes are so powerful?
  11. An interesting challenge, Thinker of Ink... Be warned that I haven't read the book in over half a year, and have never had a good mind for detail, so weight this pretty low on the "insight into the mind of a close-reader" scale. Kaladin: Shallan: Dalinar: Adolin: Jasnah: Sadeas: P.S. Honestly, just let Feather get whiff of this thread and you'll have all the description you'll ever need. P.P.S. Sorry for the muddle, this is just a bit of free-association and I didn't want to mess up the core of it with "fluff" connectives. Have a fun time reading
  12. Oh no, it's not even that simple. A British pint is bigger than an American one. So you can't even order beer properly.
  13. Pro tip: See the numbers at the top-right of every post? If you click on it, you'll get a dialog to "Share" it, as well as a raw url to link directly to that post. I usually just right-click and choose "Copy link address", so avoiding the hassle of using the dialog box. That quote is interesting (I had forgotten the specifics), but ultimately doesn't change my point. The annotation I quoted was from Hero of Ages, so it was possible to have non-suffering Snapping pre-Harmony. So still no "choose to Preserve yourself". Reading the WoB, it seems more like any extreme emotion leaves "cuts".
  14. Sorry, I didn't meant that to go against you, chrono. I agree that it's convoluted: really, I can't think of a better term off the top of my head to cover all the types of Investiture, besides maybe "Investiture", which doesn't get us far. "Fuel" is useful in certain contexts and misleading in others, just like all jargon.
  15. Aside: Robot, I am growing weary of expending the effort required to parse your posts, the deficienies of which have been brought to your attention numerous times in the past. Please start capitalizing, spelling, spacing, and punctuating in at least a semi-articulate manner, or I am afraid that I will begin to simply gloss over anything you have to say in the future. That said: I think we may be speaking at cross-purposes. The power we see in most uses of magic is that of "spending" Investiture for a finite effect: burning Steel for a Push, drawing an Aon to teleport, Lashing an object for a short period of time. There are also cases where people or objects gain some ongoing Investiture: Nightblood, Shardplate, Shardblades, Hemalurgic spikes, people, etc. We do not say that this second class of objects does not expend energy to create their magical effects, as clearly something is going on. It follows, then, that (Nightblood in death-mode and active Shardplate excepted) they provide their own power. I argue, then, that human souls are of the second class, providing their own "fuel" as they go. As Breath are part of souls, it follows quite naturally that they behave the same. You are right to say that, to a certain extent, an Awakened object is just "an alive object", but I think you are wrong to say that this means it doesn't require "magic fuel": clearly something odd and power-requiring is happening when you have stick-men and dead squirrels running around on their own power. Perhaps the word "fuel" is misleading here, but, at the core, I am simply saying that Breath provides its own continuous power supply, and so Awakening is, primarily, "fueled" by Breath.
  16. Be warned: That post has some interesting ideas, but is wrong in its basic theory.
  17. Actually, Seons are gendered both in-world and by Brandon. Female reference, male reference.
  18. Hm. So this is the same Kogiopsis who asked Brandon if Renarin was on the autism spectrum. Well done on her part textual-analysizing enough to think to ask that question, I must say.
  19. Maybe, maybe not. We know that gender doesn't affect anything, and that's probably a bigger physiological difference than between most of the races that you'll encounter in the cosmere.
  20. Okay, thanks for clearing that up. Yes? And? If you want to get into the nitty-gritty of the debate over whether the metal is physically changed by Investing it, here you go.
  21. I seriously doubt that that's all it would take. The book is clear that searching a safepouch is equivalent to a strip search. It's not the kind of thing done casually. EDIT: Yup, just double-checked. Chapter 39:
  22. @Kads You just went from Worlhopper at 74 to Sliver at 75, so I think that one's fairly well nailed down.
  23. Yes, color "fuels" the initial Command. But it isn't needed for the next infinity as the Breath keeps animating objects and doing significant work, suggesting that the power source for vast majority if the things done by Awakened items is actually the Breath, not the color. As I've discussed in the past.
