  1. That is some very cool trivia. As for Spook, just put that info in a separate section at the bottom of the article, with a disclaimer about Alloy of Law speculation. I think that'd be fine.
  2. I love the dream sequence one, that is incredible.
  3. There doesn't have to be a direct correlation, since the mechanism that is Snapping the Allomancers no longer has guidance from Preservation. It was designed, I believe, to create Allomancers so the atium can be burned off eventually, if Ruin is freed from the prison. Preservation knew that's how they won in the end, but the machine of Snapping hasn't aged very well. Lots of unintended side effects.
  4. Welcome to the boards, FirstSelector. Good to have more people here, as always. I sort of agree with the theory, but not for the reasons you state. I don't think you are interpreting those quotes correctly. That's not a bad thing, but follow my logic: It occurred to me that this would have been soon after Preservation gave up his mind to trap Ruin, and then I realized that there are two other instances when we have seen the loss of the mind controlling a Shard. The first is in the same book, when Ruin died after Vin sacrificed herself. The second is the death of Honor at Odium's hands. Well, for one thing, the Well has refilled itself more than just Alendi's time, but that's a small quibble. Preservation using his mind to trap Ruin didn't involve his death. Those are quite different things. Once he died, someone else had to take up Preservation's Shard. The rise of Mistings is less related to Preservation's death and more because the Well of Ascension was refilling. That was the trigger that led to more Snapping. And the reason why the end came quickly was because now they were too close to the sun, I had thought. It was just because Preservation's power wasn't... Preserving. It needed a new host. So I would disagree that Mistborn is good evidence for this theory, at least with what you cite. More interesting is Sel and Roshar. Aona and Skai's power were Splintered, which, when you look at that epigraph again, implies that their power can't be taken up completely. I interpret this as someone unable to take up the Shard, like Vin and Sazed did. It's really a quite different mechanism of a death of a Shardholder.
  5. How is this not your avatar?
  6. Well, the topic isn't long enough to warrant either of those yet.
  7. I now have the audio for the interview at the signing, so I am going to answer this question directly. It will be up Monday or Tuesday (maybe). We have people working on transcribing it. (This is a direct quote from part of the transcript) So there you have it. I'm pretty excited for what this implies. However, it seems that they don't always do this.
  8. Yeah, me too, that's why it took me so long to get to it. No worries
  9. Haha, way to go It actually came out on July 26th or so.
  10. Math makes particle accelerators and rockets work--two undeniably awesome things.
  11. I think we could be able to put up disclaimers for cosmere stuff, or really spoilers for any other book on an as-needed basis. So for Spook, there could be a section at the bottom with an Alloy of Law spoiler link, since he is primarily in the Mistborn trilogy. Does that make sense?
  12. Well, for quantum field theories, yes, group theory can be useful, but my particle physics class didn't cover it in detail. We just took the rules that other people had made and applied them. I don't think it is necessarily a prerequisite. I can tell you all about it! (At least, quantum electrodynamics) Regular old quantum mechanics only uses group theory for some spin stuff, and you can give that a wide miss too. But nice, you know more about relativity than I do. I've avoided GR pretty much. Also, abstract algebra is laaame
  13. Ghost Story, by Jim Butcher. I loved this book.
  14. Indeed, in the annotations Brandon said that Sazed has become more of a Greek god, a higher being, rather than the God. I personally doubt that he would ever say what God's true nature is in the cosmere because that can be easily offensive to people.
  15. Well, the Coppermind is chock full of spoilers. Publicly released sample chapters are acceptable material to make articles about, in my opinion.

    About Page

Ryan did. The Spanish intro was never live on the site, but I don't have any screenshots of what was live.
  17. Well, leaving it up so long was more a function of us not having much to say news-wise. I guess in retrospect it was incredibly devious of us Glad you could join us, Gagylpus. I often wonder how much the lurkers like the site. Judging from the user list, there seems to be a lot of them. But! You're here now, and for that we are thankful.
  18. Hey Katey, good to have you here. Your story is pretty similar to how I got into Brandon's stuff, though I haven't delved into the Wheel of Time (yet). I'm Chaos, the friendly forum administrator and the theory guy. I'm sure I'll see you around a bunch!
  19. Final Empire is my favorite Brandon novel. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I'm Chaos, the forum admin/site guy/theory guy. You'll see me around a ton. Welcome to the party
  20. I will say that we got a clear answer from Brandon on this at the recent signing. I will bug Josh and Mi'ch to get it up.
  21. I think we can actually put some theories on the wiki as an archive. Sometimes speculation can be relevant to an article, such as Adonalsium, which we don't really know what it is, precisely. So it's kind of guesswork. We should not discuss theories, at least, but commonly espoused ideas can be placed in there. I want to make a Theories category on the wiki, with special rules and such for that. My rationale being that if the Coppermind is the complete source, then these things are useful to have in there. But I'm thinking more cosmere ideas, there. Book speculation is something entirely different. I don't know how we want to handle book speculation. On one hand, if at the bottom of an article people want to put Speculation, and link to various ideas, I think that could be okay, as long as that does not overshadow the factual contents of the article. Ultimately, anything on the wiki should add to people's understanding of the topic at hand. Can speculation do that, sometimes? Yes, of course. If it is really, genuinely adding to the article, then I believe my only additional requirement would be to ensure that speculation is clearly labeled. There is a lot of wiggle-room here. We should take things on a case-by-case basis. Darniil made this question on the Talk:Spook page, so I'm assuming this would be about if Spook is the Lord Mistborn. That's a really low-level speculation (and it's heavily implied). Are we seriously going to contest that? Like I said, I would need to know what was going to be said to make a judgment. If it's about the Lord Mistborn, carry on.
  22. Happy birthday!

  23. I would personally prefer not using spoiler tags. If anything, make a new topic with separate posts for series, and try and cobble a table of contents where you can link to each post.
  24. The fifth chapter of Alloy of Law is now here, and it's time for a huge freaking amazing fight scene. Oh boy, Mistborn is back! There is nothing more that I can say about this other than read it! The chapter is here: http://www.tor.com/stories/2011/08/the-alloy-of-law-chapter-five And our spoiler thread, for discussion:
  25. I can answer with complete certainty that Alloy is not the start of the second trilogy. That one will be set in more modern times, dealing with a SWAT team of Allomancers which is tracking down a Mistborn serial killer, and they find something unexpected.
