Grammar editing is totally cool. If you see a section and you want to rewrite something to sound a little better, go for it!

I'd think it would be fair use, especially if it is uploaded to the Gallery here. But I could be wrong on that. EDIT: I suppose we could make it part of our explicit policy. But I'm sure there's been uploads without permission, and I don't feel we need to be super uptight about it.

The sheer amount of oversight, however (since we would need to award every award manually), would not be the best though.

Yeah, you can always create and categorize. Sorry creating articles is so hard. I personally just put in the URL to the wiki article I want to make and do that. It'd be great for you categorize stuff. Just one thing I'd like you to do when do so: always, always make sure you include the series category in the list of categories. For example, the Battle of the Tower would need [[Category:Stormlight Archive]]. Any Mistborn article would need [[Category:Mistborn]], etc. This is super important that we are consistent so that way when we look at Category:Mistborn, we get all of the articles. I remember a while back that we had people making articles about Roshar's plants and animals with only the tag [[Category:Roshar]], but I think I switched them all to [[Category:Stormlight Archive]]. We should only use [[Category:(insert name of Shardworld here)]] if it is an explicit place on that world. A weird distinction, I know, but we do need the series identifiers correct. I'm less concerned about the Shardworld categories.

I think that's fine. Just when putting up images (fan-made or otherwise) attribute the maker and where you linked. Go for it.

I honestly could go either way. It's tough to say at this point what would be good in the future.

That's a good idea. Those boxes are really useful for getting to key articles. My main worry is that there'd be too many boxes on certain pages. For example, on any book page, they have the Published Works of Brandon navigational box. It isn't too bad to have a second box, but we definitely can't have three or more. Well. We could, but we'd need a way to have them be auto-collapsed. Joe, do you think we could manage that? I'm looking around for a page that already has two navigation boxes which would be in danger of getting a third with this method, and I can't even find one with two, so it's not a big deal. I'm just thinking about the future. Either way, I want to make this happen. Joe, what say you about a Mistborn navigation box? Mistborn is a tough case, because there will be three trilogies (and more Alloy sequels) in distinct time settings. Should we have different navigational boxes for different time periods, or have a (eventually) ginormous Mistborn navigation box, which includes everything? I'm kind of leaning to the big box, and we'll figure out how to structure the data there at a later date.

Yeah, when there's more content, add more headers.

Hey, now, make him earn it

Yes, they are entirely unrelated. We may be able to get some integration with the two in the future, but not at the moment.

Yeah, pretty much. Trust me, I'd sure like the ambiguity to be resolved (hence why I'm very bullish on using the word), but Brandon doesn't like it. It's an author-designed ambiguity. It's hard to say for certain, really, since we don't know how Splinters are actually created. But, I think it's safe to say that Splinters have much less power available at its disposal. For example, you've seen Splinters in Elantris (we suspect they are the Seons) and they can't do anything close to what Shards can. However, we don't much about the mechanics behind Splintering, so it's tough to say much more than that. Your second question is a big one, and even harder to say. There is an example of a Shard having Splinters, and the Shard itself is still around. There's another example where Shards are completely Splintered, with its holder killed. So, it depends on how much Splintering there is, I suppose. Again, tough to say, since we don't know how Splinters are formed. I'd assume that if a Shard had a Splinter, they'd just have less power at their disposal, like Ruin without his atium. Oh, yeah, I think that was poorly stated. Perhaps better to say that sixteen people took up Shards (and that it was not coincidence who got which Shard). We explicitly know Hoid was there when Adonalsium was Shattered, and that he seems to have history with the Shardholders. Those are the facts of the matter. The rest is more theoretical. We are pretty sure Hoid doesn't have a Shard--at the very least, Hoid hasn't been included on the list of "Shards we've encountered", which is pretty convincing to me. Maybe he held a Shard at some point (I don't think so), but there's a lot we don't know about Hoid, which Brandon is keeping very close to his chest. I, however, think it's safe to say Hoid was not one of the sixteen, but he knew who the sixteen people were. Don't worry about it. A lot of the information we have dredged up has come from our incessant interrogation of Brandon since we discovered Shards at the end of Hero of Ages, so you couldn't have possibly known about a lot of this! We're more than happy to answer your questions. Honestly, I think it makes the books much better knowing there's all this extra depth to them, and it's awesome to share this with someone for the first time

A lot of these are good ideas. We'll definitely have to get on that.

Eh, it's okay, Tulir. It's fine to double post if enough time has passed, but in this case, it wasn't very much time, and typically, I'd like the second post to have some distinct, substantive content that's separate from the first post. For example, in a theory thread, one could blab about a bunch of stuff, then later, come up with some additional thoughts, and may warrant a double post. This, however, was two words, so that's easy enough to hitch onto the first post I would like to announce that I wrote 6500 words today, to finish my largest chapter yet, of 7500 words long. I'm going to go die now, okay? Is that okay with everyone?

I'd like to note that in Zas's answer to your #3 is a bit theoretical, since we don't know if Shards (the power itself) have some level of intelligence. I agree with answer above, that Ruin is referring the power of Preservation, not any consciousness attached to it. Obviously, if the force of Preservation has nobody directing it, it can't do anything fancy, but it will still Preserve. So if Leras (the person holding Preservation) died, that force is still certainly alive, and pushing against Ruin. Perhaps the confusion lies with what Brandon has said to us about Shards. We personally feel the need for the term "Shardholder" to refer to the person who holds a Shard (in the case of Preservation, Leras), as separate from the force itself. But, Brandon said that when a person picks up a Shard, they become the Shard. So in this case, we get the ambiguity that Ruin is referring to Preservation as "dead", but it's not the force that's dead, but its holder. Now that I think about it, that is really confusing. As far as we know, the power itself cannot be destroyed (I'd tell you something about The Way of Kings, but I'm not sure if you've read it). It's part of the power of creation, after all, and like the Well of Ascension, you can use it, but the power of creation doesn't just vanish like that. Ruin is definitely referring to Leras, but also remember that when Vin picks up the power, she says that she can sense what the previous holders of the power did. It could be that it fuses together, and that to Ruin, the distinction between Shardholder isn't particularly relevant.

Honestly, I like the depth of the information on the Scadrial article. I kind of want to go into wiki articles thinking "wow, I really spent forever reading this, and now I know everything I need to know. Also, what the crap, I forgot to eat dinner." That said, each individual event could and should have its own article, expanding even further on the information on the Scadrial article. And cloning some content across articles is fine, too, in my opinion, if there's additions to it.

Oh, look what I did! You may be in the lead for a time, Zas, but eventually you will go on your mission, and I shall reign supreme with time...

I feel I want to downvote you on the principle of the matter. So hard to resist the urge! Also yeah, Ellora was saying the chem tests were not fun... I would like to announce I have at least twenty more hours of work this weekend that I need to get done for Monday.

Yeah, who needs awards that we can give on a regular basis anyways?
-
Welcome, Augustus! Good to have you here! How are you doing today? You certainly aren't the only of us who had been introduced to Brandon from the Wheel of Time I have to agree with you, Mistborn is my favorite of his. As for me, I'm Chaos, the forum admin. I spend waaaay too much time here and you'll see lots of me. I hope to see you around the boards!

We are going to have a lot more awards that are actually attainable very shortly. I hadn't expected to get the award system up sooner without some good contests for it, but then Alloy came around and there were a lot of random awards given out. Sorry. But there will be awards. We're brainstorming up new ones that we can give on a more regular basis. (Technically though that Reporter one isn't just useful in Utah. But for practical reasons you can only get it once a year, on book tour)

Well, what I like more is being able to browse the internet wherever I want. It's mind-blowing.
