Shardcast: Harmony

My prediction for Era 3:  The clash of Intents has mostly been occurring in Sazed's mind in Era 2. He wrestles with the two urges and only acts when he can reconcile them. In Era 3 he'll be like "let's settle this on the field" instead of Ruin and Preservation butting heads in Sazed's head they'll be allowed to do it out in the world. Preserve this, Ruin that an active god. 

I think the Shards (The Power) inherently want to do stuff they don't like to sit around. Sazed is a relatively new Vessel so the Power hasn't had as much time to adapt him to their purposes. He has been able to wrestle with them and reconcile them in his mind, but that won't last much longer.

1. That future Sazed “it is yours" quote makes me think Harmony is a shard that is gifted to new people to prevent the power from getting too stagnant. 
 

2. I am also not so sure Sazed is doing a bad job. He has incredible foresight powers, and maybe we should be more impressed by Wayne being present than thinking it was just a fluke. Harmony, while blind, managed to outmaneuver Autonomy. To me, that shows Harmony is an incredible force. I side with Harmony on this one and say letting people be in the right place at the right time is the way to go here.  I think the  foresight and positioning  in Lost Metal is exactly the sort of thing Leras pulled off in Era 1. We wouldn't call what Laras did "lucky", so why would we do this with Harmony? Harmony has probably unparalleled ability to laydown foundations for preservation. You don't need to be all "punch punch" with Harmony. 

And Sazed is so new as well. Yes he probably let himself get into a bad position, but he is still learning. And as he showed us, he has the ability to. get himself out of these situations by putting people in the right place and letting people choose.

I think Ruin is a heavily "CHANGE" shard while Preservation is the exact opposite (I don't know what the category would be). The issue is the one person with two shards has two shards that are exact opposites.

I think the final conflict in the Cosmere will be three main factions

A. The forces of the Shard of War (Odium plus Honor) from Roshar

B. The forces of the Shard of Discord from Scadrial

C. The heroes in some third faction

Plus whatever Hoid is doing

also, is the problem with Sazed him continuing to view them as two powers? He doesn’t consider himself Zen, but a harmony between Ruin and Preservation? If Honor and Odium combine, they become War, not a balance between Honor and Odium. Sazed and everyone else still views him as one person holding two powers instead of someone holding one, new power.

I enjoyed the math talk there. Chaos is talking about Harmony and Discord as stable and unstable equilibrium points in a dynamical system. Weiry is mentioning circular motion.

I agree with Weiry's idea. It sounds to me like Discord is not an equilibrium point, but a kind of stable orbit. Rather than be unable to act, he does act, but the actions cancel each other out. This also matches what Argent was talking about with big actions.

Could be the reason Discord will be "loved" according to Terris prophecies is that Sazed will create disasters and will then save everyone from those disasters. In other words create both the problems and the solutions. People are only going to see him as a "savior", not noticing that he's creating the danger in the first place.

Concerning the shadesmar travel.  I feel like an obvious reason was missed, especially since it was talked about a bit earlier.  The pool or gateway is 'unstable'.  Perhaps, as Discord becomes more prominent the pool is increasingly become more unstable for travel?!
