Hey everyone, so today we got news that FilmEngine has acquired rights for the Steelheart movie!

FilmEngine has produced many films, including The Rum Diary which starred Johnny Depp, and The Butterfly Effect starring Ashton Kutcher. Joining them will be Donald Mustard of ChAIR entertainment, who has worked with Brandon before with the Infinity Blade franchise.

We don't have any more details at this time, but keep checking in, and we'll update you as soon as we know more.

Steelheart is scheduled to be published by Delacorte Press in August 2013.

Deadline article is here.

Seven figures. Nice payday for a book he wrote on an airplane. I am suddenly very glad that Brandon is a stand-up guy, because I would probably lapse into Turtledove style mass-production at those rates. EDIT: I'm stupid.

Anyone else notice that Brandon's short stories are flying off the shelves for live-action these days? {EDIT: Still stupid} Maybe the big stuff is simply too complex for their puny TV brains. B) {EDIT: Now I still maintain that this one is clever}

He didn't write Steelheart on a plane. It's been in planning for a couple years now.

Also, this one was written with being turned into a movie. It was part of a set of movies that was pitched to hollywood a while back. Still, super exciting to finally see movement.

Well, I guess I'm incredibly misinformed then. :unsure:

I suppose my brain was still in "that's a lot of short stories" mode when Steelheart was announced.

Source? I know that Emperor's Soul was done on the plane back from Taiwan, but I haven't heard anything like that about Legion.

Does FilmEngine have any kind of reputation? I don't know a thing about them, other than that The Butterfly Effect looked quite silly. This is quite cool, at least, even if it hardly guarantees anything.
