New Books & The Emperor's Soul

So Brandon put up a new blog post today outlining a bit of what we can expect from him as far as fiction this year. The first thing he mentions is a military SF story he co-authored titled Heuristic Algorithm and Reasoning Response Engine. You can pick it up now in any bookstore that sells the Armored anthology from Baen. Josh has read a bit of it and says it's pretty good.

The other thing that caught my interest, however, was the talk of a new cosmere book. It's to be published by tachyon publishing, and I have to say it looks SO AWESOME! I'll let you read the blurb yourself, here. Josh said he thinks he's heard of this before, and if he remembers correctly it's set in the cosmere, but isn't a shard world. Can anyone find details? If it is a shard world, which do you think it is? Also, can I have it now?

This is the story he previewed at LTUE. It takes place on a world that is home to a splinter, as I recall. There are some badly done summaries (by yours truly) of the reading here , but it was before I really knew much, so don't take anything as *ahem* written in stone (sorry about that :D)

What is officially released is, needless to say, going to be much more accurate. *shrug*

So Forgery could replicate something as specific as a soul? No wonder Peter told us we knew too little to speculate on it. We didn't even know it could be done on something other then stone. Also did anyone notice the date? December 2012! So there will be a cosmere book this year. :D

He actually read an excerpt from this in Melbourne Supanova Convention. It's set in the Elantris world (Sel). He also described the magic system in it (that he said he got inspired from by a Taiwanese museum visit, lol).

Basically Forgers create stamps that they then use to change the history of an object. S/he must know the history of the object first in order to rewrite it I believe. It sounded pretty unique and awesome :)

Thanks for the info Velnica welcome to the forums! I hope you'll like it here, we're going nuts with this Sel information right now. No one considered that it could be set on a cosmere world we already knew.
