Google+ Hangout with Brandon, & Updates

In about an hour, Brandon is going to be doing a Google+ Hangout in Sydney, Australia. For those of you who don't know, it's a group video chat thing for Google's social network, Google+. While we are pretty certain that the people who would join Brandon in the Hangout have already been chosen, however, this will be a "Hangout on Air", which means we all get to listen to people chat and ask questions to Brandon!

It begins at 10:50 Eastern time, or 7:50 Pacific. To join, apparently you will need to be following Google Australia, as that's where the Hangout will appear.

In other news, we last discussed The Emperor's Soul, the new Cosmere novella coming out late this year? Yeah, yesterday it became known that this book actually takes place on the planet Sel, the world of Elantris. It doesn't share any of the same characters (which astute readers will note that this means that this is not the Elantris sequel), but it does kind of make sense. China is the one culture we haven't seen in Sel yet, after all.

Lastly, 17th Shard now has an IRC channel (a chat room). We will get an interface on the main site soon, but in the meantime, you can go to webchat.freenode.net, in the channel #cosmere.

Happy Hanging out!

EDIT: The nice thing about Hangouts on Air is that they auto-post to YouTube, so here's the video file: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsrA90wsTv8

Some of it was already known, but there were two cosmere questions which were awesome. First, more sentient spren exist. Secondly, Honor was Splintered.

Will this be available after the fact to transcribe? Because if not, someone better record it, or be an extremely fast typist. I'll write down facts as I hear them just in case, but they won't be verbatim, I'm just not that fast.

Thanks for that, Lyssie. I'm just a moron.

I'll be noting which questions will be asked, but we will wait till the Youtube one. Windrunner, get in the IRC channel so we can coordinate our note-taking.

Anyone else catch that he said Dragonsteel was in a different universe. This suggests to me that it pre-dates the Cosmere. interesting!

Um, it is chat.freenode.net for IRC clients, webchat is only for browser client (I think?).

@Nightfire

Did he really say that? I missed it! Do you know at what point in the interview he said it? It's odd because Hoid comes from there. Maybe he considers the cosmere pre and post Shattering to be different universes? Liar is the earliest known cosmere book at this time, and we don't know where the main Dragonsteel sequence falls yet. Thanks for telling us!

@Windrunner

It's at about 30:30, where he discusses the reasons he started the cosmere. The way he phrases it makes it seem like the events of Liar happened in the original universe, and those events spawned the cosmere we now know.

Thanks Finallity! From listening to it, it seems to me that Brandon is refers to Dragonsteel as different "universe" he really means that it occurs on a different world. I think he's trying to explain to those who aren't accustomed to the idea of the Cosmere that while Dragonsteel is a prequel to Elantris they don't occur in the same place. At least that's what it sounds like to me.

Anyone else notice that the "secret epic" will be told in Dragonsteel AND Mistborn trilogy #3?

SPACE!!!!

I agree with Windrunner's analysis on the Dragonsteel thing, though this could be important, I suppose.

@Sir Read-a-lot, that didn't seem too surprising to me. We kind of figured that Hoid was in Dragonsteel, and from the Alloy of Law release, we knew Hoid was going to have a big part in the third Mistborn trilogy.

Ah! Honor is splintered! My crack-theory about a ten-facet split gains a little more legitimacy! Haha. I probably ought to update that, actually. It's kinda outdated.
