Ivian nodded. "I'll find her."

He pulled open the door and stepped out--but not right before a panicked-looking, month-pregnant waitress stumbled right into him.

"Sorry! Sorry, sir, I--" Wendy looked up and paled. "Holy sh--"

"As you were." Ivian said, glancing back at Nicolae. "He just asked to see you. Try not to jostle him too much; he's been through enough pain for one day already."

Wendy nodded absently.

The king left the room, giving Wendy the whole medbay to run up and throw her arms around Nicolae.

Nico grinned, ignoring the pain on his torso. "Hi, Wendy." After one moment, he realized he was shirtless and blood rushed to his face.

"Mal, Nicolae, did..." Wendy looked down at his bandages. "Did it really take this to get that devil arrested?"

"She... was jealous of the attention I was givin' you. 'Ssentially said if she couldna have me, no one could. I nearly just laid there to bleed ou' an' die, but Fischer rescued me. Convinced me to carry on."

Wendy hugged him tighter. "I'm glad he did. Stars know what I'd do if you--" she blushed, "what we'd do, I mean, if you died. Ara and Katie. And me."

He sighed. "I'm... hardly a man, Wendy. Get pushed around. I'm not even...." He shut his mouth before he could say "straight".

Riva nearly threw up while Allivia wailed her apologies. "Oh, I'm sure you're sorry now that you've been caught," Riva hissed. "Despicable human being. Get up."

The woman did so pitifully. "I've confessed my crimes. Will you... s-still hurt me?"

The Raveness pulled Allivia towards her by her dress. "Listen to me, scum. Usually I don't care what my patients have done. I do what the king asks. But now that I'm out of the king's employ, I do what I want. And I. Want. Blood. Your blood will be particularly satisfying. How old is that boy?"

"He's nineteen now. But he was eleven when I-"

"Eleven. What a funny age. I was that old when I killed my mother. Paralyzed her and ripped her open in the hallway. Some of her ribs were stuck in the washbasin. And her head was smashed in with a rolling pin. I bet that boy would have done the same thing if he hadn't been SCARED OUT OF HIS STARS CURSED MIND! I was lucky enough to have the bravery to do something about my abuser. Most kids aren't. So I am all too happy to give you the justice you deserve."

Wendy smiled, then replied by pressing a soft kiss into his cheek.

Nico blushed again. "Don't..." he said. "Don't... do that."

She pulled away. "Sorry. I don't mean anything by it."

"No, i's okay. You doesn't have to lie. It's pretty obvious you like me."

Wendy blushed too and turned her head away. "I should, um... let the girls know that you're okay."

"Yeah, 'at's prob'ly a good move."

Wendy stood up and walked towards the door awkwardly. As her hand drifted to the doorknob, she added, "Um, Nico... if you want... when you're better, I mean... if you'd like to go to that ice cream place again..." She bounced on her toes anxiously. "Y'know. Just the two of us, maybe."

He smiled. "That sounds lovely."

Blushing furiously, Wendy fled.

With a single hand gesture, the ten men who had quietly entered the dungeon fanned out to eliminate escape routes for their target, who stood in the last cell. She was shouting at the prisoner, but that was of no matter for the Praetorium Guard. The captain made one final hand motion, and a man yanked open the cell door with a sudden motion as two others rushed in, grabbing the Ravenness.

Not for the first time, Riva was being manhandled by guards. She was completely caught off guard and screeched. "What is this madness?!"

"You're under arrest, witch." The captain announced as the men brought her before him, "for the good of the general."
